Zombies. Monsters. Magical moons. An entire religion that apparently wants to kill me. Sometimes, being an Inquisitor really sucks.
After completing his first mission, John finds himself trapped in what looks like a zombie apocalypse. This new mission seems simple: stop the zombies, save the world, and maybe get the girl. No problem!
Things are never that simple in the Doorverse, though. John's native talents in this world set him against the dominant religion, and if he's found out, he'll probably be executed. His mark - whoever they are - knows he's coming and hunts him at every step. And getting the girl turns out to be a lot more complicated than he imagined.
Everything seems stacked against him, and without the powerful allies he had on his last mission to aid him, John's more or less on his own. Death and a fate worse than death await him beneath the triple moons...
Kyle Johnson is a kids gymnastics and martial arts instructor who teaches outside of Chicago. He's worked on cruise ships, traveled the world, climbed glaciers, ziplined between mountains, and even danced in the end of a rainbow.
Currently, his main hobbies include helping his wife raise their two kids, because after that, who's got time for hobbies?
Another really good book. Could have been a bit shorter, but that's my only significant gripe. The advantage to the MC's predicament is fresh stories each time, so you could effectively treat each one as a stand-alone book.
Overall quite enjoyed it and look forward to the next one.
In book two, John (now renamed Iotan for the purpose of the book) heads to a world infested with undead. That's not a surprise as there was a teaser at the end of book one.
Once Iotan arrives, the magic he used on the previous world no longer works so he has to start over again. Before he does that, he needs to evade the undead that are clawing at him as he fights to make it through the night. He does, if barely, and then he's healed through the use of sun magic.
The title of three moons is literal. I won't explain what they are or what they do, but it's a key part of the book. As the book progresses the undead become less and less of an issue except for specific problems. Iotan, Renita (a hunter he meets in the village he shows up in), and the Sorvaraji all head to Panja. Once they get there, the story changes to a political thriller with undead popping up to present problems for the team.
I'll stop the recap there. The book has a ton of action, a couple of mysteries that needs to be solved, and of course politics. I liked book one slightly more than book two, but only slightly. The editing is very good despite all the long and made-up names, and the stats play a key part of whether John will succeed on this planet or not. Iotan also has an AI in his head helping him with things, which is a bit of a cheat but not something that bothered me.
Overall, I like this series and I'm excited for book three. 5/5*
This is an AWESOME series. The entire concept is great because it doesn't ever need to end. Same main character but different worlds, different rules, and different romantic interests in every book. The only downside is that this series is just starting, and there are only two books done so far, which is good for me because I've been putting off projects to finish the books. I couldn't put them down, currently, and in the first stages of outstanding book withdrawals. Great action and character building, an excellent plot (mystery-based), light romance, and almost no sex (and what there is, is more implied than explained). Really fun read though now I'm a bit down because I don't have reading more to look forward to. Nicely done!
likable MC good story unfortunately no real power progression.
Unfortunately, this series is as I feared it would be. The MC goes from door-to-door, world to world and has to rebuild his power progression from the beginning. It’s like reading the first book of a series over and over again. The main character loses all or most of what he’s gained from the previous book in the series and has to gain new powers and abilities. In my opinion. The series would’ve been better if the MC carried over quite a bit of his abilities and got stronger as the story progresses. Right now as this series goes, how can he gain the power to stop and defeat the villain that put him in this position in the first place. Not sure I’m gonna continue on with the series, but you may like it.
The central concept (kinda ‘Quantum Leap’-ish) is great. I enjoy learning a new world each time.
This one felt like the plot had a stronger grasp on the narrative than is truly good for the story. Decisions were made and things happened that weren’t fully supported by the story but were ‘necessary’ for the plot.
I will buy the next novel. That’s a solid recommendation. But be aware this wasn’t an amazingly well written and conceived story.
The Doorverse is an interesting series, a man who can move from world to world, righting wrongs and learning new systems with each world. Kyle Johnson can and does use this to change the story to whatever he wants with just John and his AI Sara staying the same. This second volume occurs in a zombie apocalypse and brings in such a cool new magic system as opposed to the cool cultivation system of volume 1. A great read and can't wait for the next.
This is a good series. I really like the main character. I’d rate this book a solid 4.3. It seemed that the author basically abandoned the LiTRPG aspects of the story in this book. The character was in constant battle but barely gained any levels. Also the part about the void points on seemed a little confusing and contrived. Otherwise a solid sequel.
This story of an Assassin who goes into the Multiverse to fix imbalances was a very interesting entertaining series that I really enjoyed reading. This setup can allow the Author to make infinite books for this series and never be stale as the MC starts at zero in each new world. Looking forward to the Wild West with monsters and magic in the next book.
Overall, a decent story, but lacks in some fundamental areas. The characters are good, the concept okay, but the world building and litrpg elements are poor. If food, it’d be fast food.
This book was one of the best books I have read lately. It was NOT like any other and has a different system of magic and strong characters. I have high hopes for future books in this authors books. 😍😍😍
Second book may become a second book but starts as a new book that is too slow and frankly boring. Could not get half way through before ending so if you pushed through, hope it was good.
Reminds me of the journey of Sam Beckett except without the memory loas of who he is when he goes to the next journey. The MC develops quicker than locals but he's not insanely overpowered. This is a journey that I hope goes for at least six books
Damn good book and a excellent 2nd book ,I wasn't for sure if I was going to like it or not but it grew on me and now I wait for the next book in the series
