Kasey Michaels is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than 100 books (she doesn't count them). Kasey has received three coveted Starred Reviews from Publishers Weekly, two for the historical romances, THE SECRETS OF THE HEART and THE BUTLER DID IT, and a third for contemporary romance LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY (that shows diversity, you see). She is a recipient of the RITA, a Waldenbooks and Bookrak Bestseller award, and many awards from Romantic Times magazine, including a Career Achievement award for her Regency era historical romances. She is an Honor Roll author in Romance Writers of America, Inc. (RWA)
Kasey has appeared on the TODAY show, and was the subject of a Lifetime Cable TV show "A Better Way," in conjunction with Good Housekeeping magazine, a program devoted to women and how they have achieved career success in the midst of motherhood (short version: "with great difficulty").
A highly praised nonfiction book, written as Kathryn Seidick, "...OR YOU CAN LET HIM GO," details the story of Kasey and her family during the time of her eldest son's first kidney transplant.
Kasey has written Regency romances, Regency historicals, category books including novellas and continuities and a few series "launch" books, and single title contemporaries. She has coped with time travel, ghosts, trilogies, the dark side, the very light side, and just about everything in between. Hers is also the twisted mind behind her ongoing Maggie Kelly mystery series starring a former romance writer turned historical mystery writer whose gorgeous hunk of a fictional hero shows up, live and in color, in her Manhattan living room – to melt her knees, to help her solve murders, and to leave the top off her toothpaste. And, says Kasey, she's just getting started!
I enjoyed this one, it was very simple, our hero and heroine are introduced by a match-making woman, both of them volunteer at the community center and both of them are divorced and the hero is a single father.
They are not looking for romance but find it, the hero's wife walked out on him and his son to be a singer while the heroine's husband was too possessive and she got out. I liked their romance, the pace of it and the heroine respected the fact that Nick's son had to come first, his ex did come back to make trouble but I ended up not hating her that much.
Nice story. Hero and heroine have both been burned in bad marriages, so they are wary. But that doesn't slow down the town meddler-matchmaker and her friend who owns a bridal shop specializing in second weddings. His sister is one of the brides. They both teach volunteer classes at the town community center, and from the moment they are introduced, things just click. This is a very low-key, sweet romance with no villains, just mixed-up human beings. I liked it.
Tepid. Very tepid. No compelling conflict. Two reasonable people lacking in significant flaws fall in love and worry it's moving too fast, and never once do they have a disagreement with each other. The external conflict was boring and never once actually posed an obstacle. The writing was choppy and didn't flow well. Interactions that might have had conflict are not depicted and are skipped over and referenced later. Plus, something that happened multiple times over the course of the book: two characters are having a back and forth dialogue, and a third character enters the scene and interrupts, but there's no indication prior to the start of the third character's dialogue that someone new is nearby and jumping in! How was I to know when encountering the new character's opening statement that it wasn't just a continuation of the two character back-and-forth?
At first I liked the heroine and hero's banter (what? I like clever people teasing each other!) but it became less enjoyable the further the book went along, since banter is not actually a substitute for actual depiction of chemistry. I did, however, like the atmosphere of the community education center.
I'm so happy the Kasey Michaels has gone back to writing series. I am really enjoying the Second-Chance Bridal series. This is the second book in the series and is about Claire Ayers and Nick Barrington. Both had past bad marriages and never want to do that again. Of course life has a way of changing things. Add in an ex-wife who is to wrapped up in her own life, and friends that thing they know whats best for you, (and are right)and you have a great story.
It's a nice story. And imminently forgettable. There's really no conflict built into the story. The hero and heroine are attracted early and the only obstacle they have is that, gee, well, is it too early to declare their love when they've only known each other for 20 minutes?
This was a very enjoyable story. The romance between Claire and Nick was very well written. I don't think the title fit...but the authors don't usually get to pick the titles...
