Curtiss Ann Matlock is the author of 40 novels. With over 7 million copies in print worldwide, her books have earned rave reviews, spots on the USA TODAY bestseller list and numerous awards.

Born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, into a family of avid readers, Curtiss Ann began reading before entering first grade and was writing vignettes while still in elementary school. Her writing career began in her early thirties, with publication of two small, warm-hearted articles about her life, for which she received a total of $100. She was so enthused at this success that she immediately started writing her first novel. She also enrolled in the professional writing program at the University of Oklahoma, studying under the distinguished writer and teacher Jack Bickham and bestselling mystery novelist, Carolyn Hart. No meio do Velho Oeste bravio, eis que surge uma Pollyana quaker, pois a heroína desse livro, Maggie, acredita que vai viver em uma terra violenta e sem lei sem nunca precisar recorrer a violência. Por mais que eu admire pessoas idealistas até certo porto, eu me apego mais as pessoas práticas, e a falta de senso comum de Maggie me irritou em vários trechos do livro.

Também tive dificuldade em entender o que ela viu em Jake, já vi heróis difíceis, mas creio que ele quebrou o recorde, aproximadamente 90% do livro se trata de Maggie correndo atrás de Jake e ele não querendo nada com ela em nome de sua ‘liberdade’, e depois de certo tempo isso se tornou bem frustrante.

O último ato já era meio que esperado, Maggie era a única que se recusava a enxergar o lado sombrio de Lance, por mais que eu instinto tenha apitado o livro inteiro. O epílogo foi bonitinho, mas infelizmente não conseguiu salvar o resto do livro, a autora até escreve bem, o livro é bem mais detalhado e bem escrito do que a maioria dos livros lançados hoje em dia, o meu problema com a história foi de fato a personalidade do casal, que realmente não conseguiu me conquistar.
