Gossip Ghost By Tabatha Gray This is book 1 in a murder mystery with ghosts! Enjoyed the characters and plot! Also has a cat called the Captain that types!
Emma was surprised at what she'd inherited from her aunt but was even more surprised to find out that her new friend who'd been showing her around town wasn't exactly among the living. With Dash's help though it didn't take Emma long to embrace who she was. She was even able to help another spirit cross over, but she still had to fight for the property her aunt left her.
Emma wasn't going down without a fight though. You'll have to read for yourself and see how it turned out, but I was pleased with the ending. That novel-writing cat cracked me up! I'm sure we'll never actually see his little kitty paws tapping out a story though. According to the Amazon listing, there's 4 books planned, and I'll be able to borrow the next one on KU starting January 27.
I thought the characters were intriguing. I wanted to know more about this world that fit I thin Seattle. Emma needed somewhere to fit in and she finally found it within Undertown. I was sad for Emma when she found her cousin because she was looking for that familial connection. Overall it was thrilling and I hope the other books in the series are as suspenseful.
The start of another series starting with two women inheriting house in a place called Undertown.
The framing of this is interesting as you have your usual city but with a very special, very strange area that will take Emma, the main female character, a while to figure out.
It doesn't take long for a murder, of course, so Emma has to deal with that happening along with trying to figure out the house she's inherited and some thuggish guy is trying to get her to sell it to him.
There's a cat that seems to do something unusual under the stairs, a ghost that is the main town gossip ghost (which Emma now seems to be able to see, another thing for her to get used to), and she also has to figure out if the dead person was murdered or died by their own hands.
There's more than one ghost (and they are all fascinating), there's a 'core' in the center of Undertown which has its own degree of strangeness, there's another death, a really, really strange town council and rats.
Lots and lots of rats.
It's a really neat and rather different first book in this series and I intend to keep reading them.
This was such a great book to get yourself out of a slump. Undertown is a place that I would love to visit and explore. It sounds like a magical place where luck is looking up!
I enjoyed the atmosphere of this novel and character development. These characters were lovable and you couldn't help but cheer them on and hope for the best!
Solving a couple murders along the way was just what the ghosts ordered! Not to mention our MC learns more about her past than she bargained for! Even though she inherits a house from an aunt she hasn't seen in years during her time in Undertown she learns why, and how much of her past she doesn't know.
With a cozy mystery always comes the part where there is a resolution and you can always hope it's a great one. And this one definitely is to say the least. I can't wait to read more in this series!
I love Emma, Dash and all the other quirky people in this book. No cursing and no sex really lets you just enjoy the story without getting side tracked with other topics. It's nice to concentrate on what's going on in Undertown.
I really enjoyed reading this story. It was filled with mystery humour and great characters. The town it took place in was situated right beside a big US. city but it seemed to be in an other world. I couldn't stop reading until i finished because i wasn't sure what was going to happen. How many spirits would show up and why where they there. The main character Emma is a good combination of skeptic and believer in the psyhic side of her family. You couldn't be sure who was ghost or who was human. Great job. If you like an easy read that keeps your attention for the first page, you will thoroughly enjoy this book. I recommend it.
Blackberry brambles, soy coat milk lattes and murder
This is a story starting with a protagonist feeling unappreciated and defeated in her job. She shares an inheritance with a cousin she hasn't seen in years. Her late aunt was a psychic investigator - A kind of Robin Hood medium. Emma comes face to face with her family's history in Undertown. Then her she finds her cousin dead. So begins her search to find answers and justice for her cousin. I ended up wanting the story to keep on.
I liked this. But it was a little odd like the author wasn't used to writing. I still don't understand how the main character broke the curse when it was built up as if it were a much bigger problem than just some teenager dying.
This person has a cat in her house that uses a typewriter behind closed doors and she doesn't even want to know anything about that or thinks its odd? She also doesn't consult this being when she sells the building they share?
A lot is happening in this book. Emma just inherited her late aunt's psychic shop with second story apartment. Emma did not know her Aunt well, not seeing her since Emma was a child. The shop is located in a unique hidden area of Seattle. It is hard to find, hard to navigate in, and hard to get WiFi service. And as soon as Emma gets there, she finds her cousin's dead body. She also discovers she can see and talk to ghosts. And more death has to be investigated. This was a fascinating story. Loved it. On to book 2.
Funny, fast moving and unputdownable! Great fun! At first I wasn't sure about this town that Emma had come to. The fact that Emma was seeing the ghosts but not realizing it was a surprise. It was somewhat confusing at first but I soon realized that all the characters had some type of magical ability. And the cat is a strange one. I hope to find out more in the future books.
Sure, you've read ghost stories before, but you haven't read THIS ghost story. There isn't just one ghost, and the fun doesn't stop there. There is a few murders to solve with the help of those ghosts. there's friendships to make, and a screwball town to explore. More good news...while this is the first book of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. There is no annoying cliffhanger! Enjoy.
Emma travels to Seattle to meet with her cousin, Jessie to accept the property that they were willed by Aunt Cora. On arrival, Emma finds her cousin has been killed..... Or committed suicide? The story unfolds with an older murder and then another murder. Lots of detective work goes into the story with the help of various ghosts or Spirits as they like to be called. I particularly liked the writing style.
All the characters are well drawn: the good ones are likeable; the bad ones are very dislikeable. The plot moves along quickly to a satisfying conclusion. There are ghosts and a very interesting cat, both of which add to the story. I'll have my eye open for more by Tabitha Gray
Great start to a new series! Emma Day enjoys playing detective, but never figured it would be for spirits. After inheriting her aunts house, she gets to meet several who want her help in traveling to the light. She gets help from one and the Captain (the house cat who types stories). Enjoy!
Emma inherits her aunt's home in Undertown by Seattle. Lots of excitement, and she learns lots of surprises. A good cozy paranormal mystery. I did a little research and there really is an underground area in Seattle, Washington! The underground hasn't been lived in since they raised the level of the city but you can tour it. That really made this book more fascinating for me.
I love paranormal mysteries! Tabitha Gray made this one fun. I did figure out the murderer long before our heroine, Emma did but it was an enjoyable ride to the end.
Best book of this kind I’ve read in a long time. Breaks the molds and provides a fresh approach. Very entertaining. And best of all no silly romance. Loved it
It was a bit scattered at the start and some things still seem unclear - a bit Alice and the rabbit hole But good characters and loss of growth for them in future books
I almost didn't read this book but so glad I did. The storyline is really good and the characters are terrific. I am so looking forward to the next in the series.
No time while reading this book did I ever suspect who the real killer was. I had a great time while reading the story but did have a hard time trying to keep track of the characters. Overall I loved it.
Ghosts, new friends and enemies galore make this a fun story to read. Emma feels like someone you have known all your life. Enjoy the ride as Emma and her friends take on mysteries and old not forgotten murders, as well as new murders. Highly recommend.
I loved this book because it kept surprising me. Among the surprises were Dash, Alice, and Jack, just to name a few. I look forward to reading about Emma's adventures in the rest of the series.
When you are in the mood just to read without thinking of who, what and when, this book will suit you. It is a bit of a cozy mystery with a wee potion of sci-fiction blended with the paranormal.
Loved all the characters. Love the storyline. Quirky..unbelievable in many ways Though the characters were believable. I recommend it especially for fantasy and cozy mystery readers
This was a great story with plenty of ghosty mystery and a surprising twist. I could visualize the scenes as well as the atmosphere, especially in the core. Loved it!
This was a fun read. I think the mystery needed a few more hints to allow the reader to reach the correct conclusion. The characters are lovable, and the plot moves quickly.
Loved it!!! Such a page turner right from the beginning with characters who just jump off the page with fullness. Lots of funny and quirky moments as well, but it still takes itself seriously. And I loved the crystal clear and witty writing style.
Different because the main character and her family are known to see ghosts and everyone who learns of of it in this odd location, Undertown, near Seattle, accept it. Good mystery and a good set up to solve more of the living and the dead.
I don’t normally read paranormal type books, but I started this one and couldn’t stop! Tabatha Gray has a gift for story-telling that bodes well for us readers!
