A dangerous new world. An epic new quest. A thrilling new blockbuster entry in the best-selling middle-grade series, The Jane Doe Chronicles.
Jane Doe is no ordinary girl. A child of three ancient gods, she can control the Manor, a sacred labyrinthine realm between the worlds. But lately, it seems the Manor’s been controlling her – and Jane is terrified of what that could mean.
But when Jane discovers she’s the rightful heir to a powerful, long-lost relic, she must cast her fears aside and embark on another extraordinary adventure. The relic – the Phantom Quill – is said to grant visions of every future in every world. In the right hands, a tool for good. In the wrong hands, a weapon of chaos. And a power-hungry cult leader is already hot on its trail …
With her girlfriend, Violet, their pal, Aki, and the mysterious Winifred Robin, Jane must journey through the booby-trapped halls of the Manor to the steamy jungles of Vahru, a land on the edge of ruin. There are quicksand pits. There are swamps. There are ravenous beasts and crumbling, ancient cities. Deadliest of all, though, there's the cult and its prophetic High Priest. Why does he want the Quill so desperately? And why does Jane feature so prominently in his nefarious plans?
This time, if Jane wants to save the Otherworlds, she may have to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Destiny – let alone the Manor – may not be on her side, after all ...
Jeremy Lachlan was born and raised on Wiradjuri country, in Griffith, NSW, Australia. A former bookseller, he completed his Honours degree in creative writing at the University of Canberra in 2004, and now calls Sydney home. His debut novel, Jane Doe and the Cradle of All Worlds, was the 2019 Australian Book Industry Award winner for Book of the Year for Older Children, and its sequel, Jane Doe and the Key of All Souls, was shortlisted for the same award in 2021, but both of those pale in comparison to the $100 he once took home in a karaoke competition. He came up with the idea for the Jane Doe Chronicles while lost in the Cairo Museum.
Rep: Jane is cis, and lesbian. Violet is cis, Black and lesbian.
Jeremy, you've done it again! This was thrilling from start to finish and I am in desperate need of the next book please and thank you!
Jane is a hilarious and awesome protagonist. Her voice shines through on every single page. She manages to get herself into situations that shouldn't be possible, but with her band of misfit friends, and her amazing girlfriend, she is usually able to get out of it.
This book series is one of my all time favourites and I will hold it so dear to my heart always.
While Jane didn't use the Lords name in vain as much in this 1(about 1/2 actually), it was still used 15 times I believe. Which is still just unnecessary to me. Because of that I usually wouldn’t recommend it, nor would I give it a star rating on goodreads. & that IS what I’m doing this time-UNTIL the US edition is released. Then I will recommend THAT specific edition because the author informed me that the Lords name in vain is not in the US editions. It always makes me so sad, but this is a personal thing, & I can't go against that when it happens. While I appreciate the fact that Jane isn’t referencing my God, that word is still that word in my head, & I really don’t like it lol. If this isn't something that bothers you, then you might really enjoy the series no matter the edition. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL cover by Alessia Trunfio too.💜
