Shadow Work Journal for Self-Love: Powerful Prompts and Exercises to Integrate Your Shadow and Embrace Your Inner Child

Rate this book
Practice self-love with guided shadow work exercises and journaling prompts that help you heal old wounds, break harmful cycles, and accept all parts of yourself.

Shadow work is the process of uncovering the parts of you that you subconsciously hide or reject, such as unwanted traits or characteristics suppressed during childhood, and bringing them into your awareness. It allows you to identify, heal, and accept all parts of yourself—including the “bad” parts you’ve repressed—so you're no longer held back by emotional triggers, self-sabotaging behaviors, and self-limiting beliefs.

With Shadow Work Journal for Self-Love , you'll connect with your inner child, release shame, guilt, and fear, and face the world anew as your whole, authentic self.

First of all, I would like to have a clear understanding that this is not a journal.

The book is a self help giving the reader journal prompts for mindfulness and self care I would say.

I really like the introduction and I feel it is a good start for the reader to help in reflecting on what aspects we would want to focus on.

The book has three main sections. The first section describes and help us understand what the “shadow work” is and how we can work on it.

The second section has the basic exercises and techniques we can do anytime without much difficulty.

The third section is my most favourite as it deals with journal prompts for deep exploration.

A basic guidebook I would say which can help you any day.

Thank you, Zeitgeist, for the advance reading copy.

Shadow Work Journal for Self-Love is a simple yet effective guide that encourages healing. I enjoyed the introduction to this book. The author did an incredible job creating a safe space and providing the reader with the proper tools before diving into shadow work, such as what to expect, how to ground yourself, and when to take a break.

If you’re new to shadow work, I highly recommend this book as a guide. The prompts were easy to follow, straightforward, and effective. Thank you to NetGalley and Zeitgeist for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This title tells you everything you need to know! When it says shadow work it means shadow work! The intro to this journal was great, it really made me feel comfortable and motivated to finish the journal. The prompts were great and some were harder then others but the work that will get done if you follow these prompts and how you will feel implementing them into your live is going to be unreal! Be ready to start loving yourself!

Before I begin my review, I would like to disclose that I received a free digital copy through NetGalley in exchange for my honest and thoughtful review. With that being said, let's discuss the Shadow Work Journal for Self-Love:

Right out of the gate, I would like to thank Jay and Inez for creating such a thoughtful guide to Shadow Work at the top of the book. You can tell as the reader how much they care to make sure you get the practice right and come at it with the correct intentions and mindset. The encouragement to be gentle with yourself while working through some of the exercises in the book is also helpful; knowing how I like to "shoulder through" uncomfortable things just to get them done, it was nice to have a reminder that it's okay to deviate from the implied structure of doing the exercises. The careful, distinct breakdowns between triggers, projections, and patterns, is also very helpful for allowing readers to understand the concepts and use that understanding as they later attempt the exercises that utilize those words to prompt you to think about those various aspects of yourself. I also loved the extra self-care rituals that you could undertake to help support you through what can often be a painful, vulnerable, and emotionally raw labor.

As for the exercises themselves, oh boy. In my limited time with access to this book, I was unable to attempt every exercise, but I did look at many of them and think on them a bit, instead of undertaking the full exercise of writing out my responses to each, as I simply didn't have the time. But WOW. Some of these are incisive, and really encourage you to dig deep. They ask you to look deeply within yourself and pull out the truths that you keep hidden, sometimes even from yourself. I love that many of these prompts attempt to help you source the beginning of these patterns or triggers or behaviors, and often ask you to reframe your feelings or behaviors in a way that can motivate you to make change in your own life.

It's not very often we get a mirror held up to fully examine ourselves, and even less often is that mirror actually held up by our own hand. This book takes that uncomfortable self-examination and makes it bite-sized, approachable, and easy for anybody to understand and participate in. I would highly recommend this workbook to anybody who is looking to make changes in the ay they see themselves, the way they interact with the world, or who is simply hoping to feel more connected to themselves.

Shadow Work Journal for Self-Love was one of the very few self-help books I was actually interested in reading. It did not disappoint! If you want to delve into the reasons why certain patterns keep occurring in your life, this is the book for you. There are many effective strategies to help you delve into your psyche. The book details the steps you can take for self-care first, which is a very important part of shadow work. I really like how the second chapter has journaling prompts that are fairly light tasks, yet helpful. It prepares you nicely for the harder work in the third chapter. I read this book in one sitting, and am pleased to say, the exercises have me very inspired to do some self-work. I can’t wait to delve into the exercises and start my journey toward healing. In fact, I was so inspired that it was hard for me to read through the entire book without stopping and working on many of the journal prompts. I am so excited about this that I actually had a copy shipped to my best friend. It’s rare that I find a book I know she will love, so kudos to the authors.

I received a copy of Shadow Work Journal for Self-Love from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Effective Strategies!

Shadow Work Journal for Self-Love is a great resource filled with wonderful insights and strategies. It's safe to say that it would be a great read for anyone looking to do the work, especially shadow work, that is crucial to our future development and healing. I particularly liked the structure of the book and the shadow exercises coupled with journaling prompts. A lot of books that are in this fashion will oftentimes spend too much time explaining what the goal is instead of diving into the actual work. I appreciate how much time was devoted to reflective style questions and journaling. I learned some things about myself in participating in the exercises.

This is an exercise in going deep within to address the shadow that hides and can be repressed deeply inside of us. It equips you with tools for handling emotional triggers and in doing so heals old wounds. I loved the book! I highly recommend it. Thank you to NetGalley for the gifted copy!

I don’t think I’m the correct target audience for this book. I would describe this as shadow work for beginners. With that in mind, I think it does a good job as an introduction.

The best feature of the book is the journal prompts. Most people struggle to journal because they don’t know what to write. Having questions and topics laid out as themes, would be helpful for beginners.

I think it falls short on providing the next steps (after the journaling) as to what the reader should do with the information.

As a starting off point, I think it’s beneficial. If that’s where you are, it might be worth working through. If you’ve done other shadow work or a lot of therapy, I don’t think it would be helpful.

3/5 stars.

Thank you for the advanced reader copy.

A fabulous, easy to understand guide to beginning shadow work. Broken into 3 parts this short book explains what our shadow is and why it is crucial to our well-being to welcome those parts of our self that we hide away. It then provides numerous exercises for conducting shadow work including a letter to your future self and mirror work. Finally the book contains lots of journal prompts to deeply explore the parts of your shadow, how it shows up and the impact it has on your life.

I highly recommend this easy to read, accessible book. It is gentle and wonderfully encourages exploration of the self to develop / promote a greater sense of self -love.

Thank you Zeitgeist and Netgalley for an ARC ain return of my honest review.

I loved this book. This book helped me to know those things about myself that I was not even aware of. The shadow work exercises are really interesting, easy, and life-changing if done with full honesty.
In short, this book will help you know yourself better and when you truly know yourself, your world changes. You will gain extreme clarity in life about everything you do, what you feel and your actions.
So, I recommend everyone to give this book a try.

This book was a great introduction to shadow work and what it means to work with your shadow. The prompts and the guides in this book were well-written and I found myself working through some of the journal prompts (especially in the deeper exploration section) and really reflecting and working on those feelings the prompts guided me on.

A Nourishing Way To Journal!

I knew this book was special when I started to read some of the prompts aloud and found myself speaking back to the page exactly what I needed to write down! Shadow Work is GOOD work, especially to start off the beginning of a new year. Highly recommend!

I'm usually not a big fan of self help journals. Mainly because they usually just talk alot and there are only a couple lines of work per chapter.
This one was completely different. It had a beginning chapter that talked about how you should make sure you take care of yourself. It goes over the different ways to ground yourself while doing shadow work.
Each exercise is easy to understand and has it broken down into steps and then questions to ask yourself as you do the exercise to get the most out of it.
