And it’s not just that… it’s them. The men. As the only female shifter adrift in a sea of testosterone, it’s up to me to sort my allies from my enemies…
The men have my scent. Am I just their prey or something more?

Dnf 53% This book had a fun concept, but unfortunately could not pull off an engaging story. The first 15%, while overly descriptive, wasn't terrible. The problems began when the MFC only had any sort of dialogue / relationship with two people even though she was surrounded by hundreds. It just became really boring, flat and tedious to read. After skimming ahead to see if this dynamic changed, I decided to throw in the towel. Frankly, I just don't have time to waste on something I'm not enjoying.
The story had potential but missed the mark. Writing was sometimes very good and sometimes not good at all. Very jumpy and weirdly paced. Sometimes overly descriptive about very minor details and then super rushed during meaningful plot points or dialogue.
I honestly tried to read this book the whole way through, it was tough going. The characters , sunny, slade, talon , and dexter, were not fully developed so they were one dimensional at best. It's s like the author had no interest in them at all. I tried to care about all of them, but they were words on a page. The author seemed to have a good story line, but that was as far as she got. I think this author should seriously consider a new line of work. Maybe take a few courses in how to develops characters in a story instead of just putting words on paper. Very disappointed in this book. I probably won't be reading any books by this author again.
This book started off great! I loved how detailed her life was, and the fmc’s emotions flowed perfectly with what was going on in the story. I wasn’t impressed with how all the guys treated her when she arrived at the school. It was the epitome of when boys bully the girl they like. The fmc forgave all of their hurtful words like it never even happened which I don’t think meshed well. I think that was the only disconnect in the book. It any real person would have more feelings about that, and may respond similarly. This book was multiple pov but it more or less felt like third person pov, more narrative really. I really enjoyed how the story had a good conclusion. That epilogue, I suspected he was another potential mate of the fmc. Their meetings to help her shift, the way he spoke to her, was all over the place. It was difficult to see what was going on. I hope he finds a way to prove himself to the fmc. Even though he started out as the bad guy, I hope the books end with him being the good guy. I rated it 4* because the male sneers and jeers felt like elementary school, where they were all in college. It also felt a little fast that she jumped into bed so quickly with 2 of the guys who were mean to her. I don’t feel there was enough of a transition to make it feel natural. Otherwise, I liked the book. I will read the next one when it comes out.
SYNOPSIS (of Book 1): The series is set in a world where the humans and supernaturals live separately and humans know nothing about supernaturals. The FC is the result of an affair between a human and a supernatural. The FC has inherited her father‘s powers but was brought up by her mother as her father left them (for their own safety) before she was born. Her mother has tried to keep the FC away from the supernatural world but the FC, upon being invited to attend a supernatural academy, wants to learn about her history and her father.
This was a DNF for me which is rare as I usually at least finish a book even if it is just skim reading it to the end. The writing was OK but the book needed a proper editing as it was full of sentences begin repeated and incorrect words being used. This jarred sufficiently to impact the reading flow. However it was not that which made this a DNF for me. It was the characters. The story was completely unoriginal with the FC being the all powerful saviour of the supernaturals and the MCs disliking her and treating her badly. The MCs were just pathetic. Not just juvenile but simply unlikeable. I could not engage with any of them. Not because they did anything in particular (although Talon was all over the place) but because the author‘s explanations of the scarcity of female shifters made no sense and kept contradicting themselves and the author seemed to be saying that whilst on the one had they should be honoured and respected none of the boys are the school would do either. The MCs were just rude and obnoxious for no apparent reason to the FC. This wasn‘t even a bully romance. As for the headmaster, he was just creepy. No idea how he could be a romantic interest. The whole book seemed to be all over the place unfortunately.
Man this book started so promising. Like other reviews mentioned the changing of perspective was odd but I got over it. The story was solid, the direction was great, the romantic interests had piqued my interest. Then bamn the writing shifted, it became a 13 year old boys poorly written wet dream. Was so bizarre. The story becomes non existent and instead you’re just being told she is everyone’s mate with zero romantic build up. The steamy scenes, if this is now the focal point, were not at all hot but more cringy. The whole reverse harem thing, I mean okay I could read that and maybe get into it, but not like this. Then there’s this villain who is all tough but then not. I literally stopped reading. Which I NEVER do. Ever. Don’t waste your time or MONEY.
This really disappointed, the storyline had been strong.
The reviews are accurate. There are so many students but she only interacts with the 3 guys, a professor, texts her mom and then obvi the headmaster. The first chapter or epilogue where she was named was so good. Once she gets to the school — everything fell off for me. The random hate all of a sudden from Talon was weird, Slade’s reason for being a ‘bad boy’ was so off putting, and then Dex was just so one dimensional. He had blue hair, usually had headphones/tablet and then was a stuck up guy. Then when they decided they were mates: rip clothes off? Slade and Sunny’s relationship - No. That whole part was bad. The author was trying not to sell much about the possible mates but it was super obvi when they all had a POV.

I really liked the idea of the story but the execution was a bit off, for me. The multiple povs are something I always enjoy, however, going from first person to third person was super off-putting. It did get better after the first half of the book because it stopped mixing narration with the main character’s pov. I’m unsure if this is a writing style and is an acceptable norm and I just don’t enjoy it or if it’s not. I would like to finish the series because I would like to find out what happens but I can’t put my brain through that.
I enjoyed the storyline, but the writing was awkward to read. There were parts that's were overly descriptive and other parts that lacked description (like the sex parts). Some editing would help. The book has definite potential. The mystery with the headmaster was also a part of the book that lacked detail or depth. The author was too vague, and therefore, it was difficult to keep interest.
This is a must read. I love Sunny and how strong she’s becoming. I love her guys and it seems she’ll eventually have more and I can’t wait to find out what happens next for everyone.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5/5 MFC: love Sunny!! MMC(s): love them, Dexter took me by SURPRISE. Plot: 5/5 Book cover: 5/5 Would I buy a physical copy?: Depends on how the series goes!
Let me just get this out of the way, Dexter shocked the SHIT out of me with that mouthhh 😮💨 I was not prepared for that. Also, this had delicious spice for being an academy series. 🤌🏻✨
Anywho, the writing? Flawless! My literal only complaint for this book would be the switching to 3rd person for the guys! It’s breaks up the flow you get while reading from Sunny’s POV.
I love that Sunny is finding her true self but my heart hurts that her dad won’t physically be there. I could have smacked Garoux for his delivery on that subject, the brute. I loved him from the start and was desperately CLINGING to hope that I wasn’t reading their situation wrong!
Talon took a minute for me to accept, but once he softened towards Sunny I was a goner. Same thing with Slade. Their moment together in her room?? HOT. HOT. HOT.
The relationship between Sunny, Dexter, Talon and Slade had solidify quickly, which I’m incredibly happy about since sometimes it’s dragging to see active harem members fight the connection throughout the books, but I am wondering if there’s a possibility for a new member or three (not counting the one mentioned at the end 😈) in the building of this series?! The more, the merrier!
Definitely looking forward to the next book!

This book could have been great if not for the main characters, lol. It started interesting, and I was hoping Sunny would be a strong character, but she just wasn't. I like the FMC to be bold, or if they are sweet, then they are full-on sweet. Sunny is kind of boring, to be honest. I thought her mother was more interesting. And the mates are a bunch of red pills, god. Maybe with the exception of Dexter. The positive aspect is that the smut is well-written and somewhat entertaining, but when I can't find the connection with the characters, it turns into porn which I'm not into. The plot didn't really catch my attention, and the world is weird. There are shifters, but there are also nymphs and sirens... are they considered shifters too? I was confused because they said there were not a lot of female shifters, and three showed up in the first novel. There was a pixie, a siren, and a nymph. Not to mention the boys' mothers... It was confusing to me. Also, I don't want to see Sunny dying if she has a kid. I found this rule kind of stupid, to be honest. Anyway, I won't be moving forward with this series.
I enjoyed this college academy-based fantasy. Our main character, Soleil, is a the child of a shifter and human and has been raised as a human (we get vague ideas that this is for her protection, but we don't know what from). After receiving a mysterious letter inviting her to a prestigious shifter academy, she decides to put her whole life on hold to pursue learning more about her magic and shifter nature.
Overall, the story was well paced and drew me in. I was a little put off by all of the main males being written in 3rd person. (I think this is the first time I've ever seen that done). It wasn't annoying enough to make me set the story down but it was frequently distracting. I also liked the authors choice in what shifters the FMC's mates were. Nice to see someone choosing something other than wolf, bear, etc. There are also enough unanswered questions at the end of book 1, that I'll be moving on to book 2.
Recommend if you like chosen one tropes, academy based stories, a bit of rivals-to-lovers and a headmaster whose motives you can't quite figure out.
I enjoyed the book and I loved the characters, especially Dexter. I got caught up in the storyline and look forward to the next book. Spicy bits were good, but they could have been spicier. However, this is just the first volume, so there're lots of opportunities to increase the sizzle. The ending was quite satisfactory.
Spoiler alert
This is an "academy" book in title only.
Gone is off-beat roommate who instantly becomes the protagonist's BFF and who does her hair and makeup. Gone is the conflict with another woman over her fated mate. These are not necessarily bad things. Classes? Gone after the first, what, two? No interaction with any students, well, maybe one. Professors, two, briefly. Sunny is the only female in the academy, which could have been explored more. But that storyline was specifically ignored.
Despite that, I look forward to seeing how our heroes ultimately eliminate Deimos and the Shade Clan.
Primal Awakening, the first book of A Prime Shifter Academy series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). I really enjoyed the story line. The author's use of comparative examples gets to be so distracting, I started high-ligting them in my Kindle. Some examples I noted: [He] tossed with the sway of his head, like a black flag against the sky; ...rumble in my throat like the bubbling of a volcano; [It] hit him like he'd just scratched off a million dollar lottery ticket; a voice slithered in my head like a snake.
Some of the comparatives were excellent (wish I thought of some of these), but after a while every time I read the word "like" I was pulled out of the reading. I enjoy where the story is heading and foresee many potential challenges for the characters, which compels me to continue reading the series. I'll start book two right away.

This is the first book I’ve read by Melody Rose. I’m starting on her back list later and reading everything else she’s written. I read this book in one sitting. It was excellent. Without giving too much away, it is like nothing else I’ve read in regards to shifters. I was hooked from the beginning. It was an excellent story with a good amount of steam mixed in. It all flowed naturally as the relationships built. I’m excited to see where this story goes and my fingers are crossed for at least 1 more mate. Action, adventure and steam and (possible) redemption all in one place. Cannot wait for the next book!
This was written a bit different than I am used to, and I am sure there are plenty of people whom might enjoy it. The males were told in 3rd person, while the MFC is told mostly in first.
For some reason I had a hard time getting invested in this story. Typically I can read a book within a day or 2, because I really get into a story and it's hard for me to put it down. This book was easy for me to set aside and I honestly had to start skimming pages just to make it through...
Interesting idea, but I think it needs a bit more development..
For my feelings on this book, please reference the above emojis 👆🏻
Started out decent, then turned awful in a jiffy. And why, why, why did the author think making one of the heroes a freaking unicorn was a good idea? It's so cringe.
OH OH and also. Probably the worst part: once shifted into their primal forms, they still talk. OUT LOUD. As if nothing is different- as if they didn't just shift into a primal beast. That's the first and only time I will be reading and putting up with that nonsense. It was so weird and off-putting and just wrong.
4.3 stars for me. I really am enjoying this new series Prime Shifter Academy. Our fmc father realizes he can’t stay in the human world while his mate was giving birth. Fast forward 20+ years and she finds an invitation with full scholarship, accommodation’s plus travel. It’s to Shifter Academy. There she learns about her primal side the phoenix. Meeting her mates then thrown into battle from an attack by evil. I think it’s a good idea so I’m going to continue to the next book.
loved it and am hoping hard for a sequel book soon!
I’ve always enjoyed books by the author; and the title alone has my interest.
The characters I enjoyed but it’s the store itself and the world of it that held my interest the most. Where would the end take place? What would happen to all these characters I’ve just met?
Avoiding spoilers obviously isn’t easy as I really liked the book; best I can say is I’m in dire need of a book 2, as I simply just need more!
A fantastic start to the series that made me want to pick up the second book as soon as I’d finished the first. There are unresolved relationships and the book ends on a cliffhanger so there’s plenty of juicy bits to sink your teeth into in the second book. Character development and world building was very good and I loved diving into a reality where creatures of myth and legend roamed the lands.
I made it to chapter two before I got pulled out of the story. First person and third person chapter switches?….nope. It was really upsetting because the story could have been good if the author didn’t consider what changing point of view does to a story. It totally made me stop reading and double check the other chapters. I really wish this was all in one point of view bc I would have binged all the titles.
The male characters felt 2 dimensional. They were an ass to her and their reasons for it were weak. It felt like a second pass of a book and she meant to go back in and flesh out characters and dialogue, but never did. With that said I'm going to give book number 2 a try because I liked the idea of what she was trying to do, and I care about the main female character enough to want to know what happens next.
Overall a decent read and interesting enough to read book 2 of this series. There was too much internal dialogue, almost seemed like the characters were 18 or 19 years old instead of 22-24 yrs olds, except Baron seemed closer to his 28yrs. Characters were decent though and as far bullying goes it is extremely light. If your looking for a dark bullying RH may I suggest Savage Kings of Bradwyn U series by Rachel Jonas and Nikki Thorne.
I found this book to be an enticing read and I just couldn’t put it down once I started. The story was really good and I loved the premise behind it. I’m also looking forward to finding out what happens next. I liked the characters and they definitely grew on me as the story progressed and I really loved watching their journey from beginning to end. I would recommend giving this book a read.
I liked several things about this book. The world is interesting. Some aspects of the characters. The social interactions seemed stunted at times though and that always throws the whole thing off for me. Dialogue between the characters felt stiff and just odd. But, decent world building, hence the three stars.
There's a lot of filler with descriptions of surroundings but not much to add true details to the story as a whole. The characters are ok but are lacking in true dimension too. I'm still trying to figure out if I will continue with the series or move on to something that pulls my attention more.
95% of this book is disjointed internal ramblings of what one would think was a 10-12 year old introverted child. Absolutely NOT the thought process of a twenty two year old that’s supposed to be some supernatural hero.. The heroine has no backbone. There are “adultish” scenes but The Babysitters Club has more depth than this monstrosity.
