A full-color Manga For Kids series! Corona and Lan have joined the Space Patrol and are ready to help outer space friends in trouble. In this volume, the girls visit a planet full of seemingly friendly aliens who don't want the girls to leave -- ever! Plus, Corona helps her partner overcome her social awkwardness by inviting Lan on a girl's afternoon out. With equal parts space adventure and school hijinks, Swans in Space has something for everyone.
I am not impressed with Swans in Space so far....but it's keeping my interest enough so I keep reading the books. The laziness of Lan and the over achieving of Corona are getting old already. Throwing Kiriya, arrogant student council president into the mix didn't add much for me. I didn't like his attitude or the way he talked down to everyone even though he helped Corona and Lan later. Lan's laziness really bugged me, even her attitude when finally hanging out with Corona and her friends.... Lan is hard to like or care about. I guess I don't see any qualities yet that would make Corona really want to be her friend or help her....but Corona does that continually. It makes me like Corona less, she's such an over achiever that she has to be the best at everything....even being friends with lazy Lan. But I am intrigued enough to continue.
I didn’t like Swans in Space: Book 2 as much as the first one. The first book felt more exciting and focused, but this one lost me a bit. The whole part where they’re on another planet with a ton of alien fans trying to hold Corona back just felt weird and kinda frustrating.
Their boss being a kid bear who mostly just plays games while making them work didn’t really hit for me either—it took away from the tension instead of adding to it. The concept was still interesting, but the execution wasn’t as strong as Book 1.
Overall, it wasn’t bad just not as good as book 1 in my OP..
This was a fun read, and I found it easier to read the Japanese-style manga (read right to left) in full color for some reason. The story was snappy, cute, and entertaining enough to keep me reading. Corona is a great main character because she is so curious about other people and willing to take a second look at her own perspective.
I thought it be more Atomic Betty or girl scouts that has to deal space aliens, space battles and students disguised as aliens. And on patrol, they fight evil doers and monsters. but it's sort of like that.
