A desperate woman. Ava Fychon won't rest until she finds her family. A month has passed since she and her young brother and sister were taken from their farm in Wales and then separated in London. Flinging herself into the River Thames to escape her kidnappers, however, isn't her best idea to date. Not when it results in being dumped on the doorstep of the man who can send her to prison. A life forever changed. The instant he sees the drenched girl dripping water on his carpet, Deran Morissey, Earl of Atherton, knows his life will change-and not for the better. Her story of abduction is too absurd to be believed. He offers to help find her family, certain that will put an end to her ruse. That was his first blunder, for he soon learns Miss Ava Fychon will go to great lengths and distances-either on foot or stolen horse-to reclaim her kin. An impossible love. Their search leads them to each other's heart and to a love that cannot be realized. What can a person do when they want someone they can never have?

Reread years later.

Ava finds herself at the Earl Atherton's home after being fished out of Thames and accused of trespassing on his ship. She also can't talk because of rope burns around her throat. When Ava is able to finally communicate some of her story the Earl does not believe the outlandish tale. He does believe she needs help. While investigating, he slowly realizes everything she claims is true.

When living at home , a mysterious uncle arrives at her house claiming to want to help her. Days later she and her younger siblings are kidnapped and thrown on a boat to London. They are to be sold on the Black slave market. Ava is able to escape by jumping into the river. Ava is very single minded. She is her siblings only help and time is running out. Some of her actions can be more of a panic attack than smart sometimes. Though can you really blame her?

The H was your typical arroganr, stubborn lord of the realm. Must be why he is attractive to the h's fiery, " i don't care what you think" attitude. The chemistry is instant between these two. Unfortunately, this got annoying in the beginning of the book. The Earl would angrily kiss Ava, then lose control before pushing her away after hurting her feelings. This pattern got redundant. I didn't like his Aunt that much either.

Luckily the mystery picks up and the story gets so much better. The forbidden romance heats up as well. I loved the journey this two take together. I didn't want to say goodbye.

I highly recommend this very different hr.

Almost Taken is a historical romance novel with a slight hint of suspense. The action takes place in London, in 1825. Immediately, the reader meets Ava Fychon as she is desperately trying to stay afloat in the sewage-filled Thames.

At first, the reader knows very little about Ava. In fact, when the young girl is brought to Deran Morrisey Earl of Atherton on the charge that she is trying to stow away on one of his ships, Ava does not even speak. Soon enough though, we learn that Ava in on a quest to find her sister and brother. Essentially, Ava had been both mother and father to the young children since the death of their father. The children had been separated from each other when a man claiming to be their uncle had kidnapped them with the intension of selling them as indentured servants. Throughout the story, Ava obsession is to reunite her siblings. However, life's events have a way of distracting her a little.

Intertwined within the main story, Almost Taken contains a hot romantic adventure. The author has the unique ability to make a kiss so utterly exquisite and breathtaking that the sexual tension can't be ignored. The action just gets steamier from there.

A story well worth reading

I enjoyed this book very much, my only complaint is the Americanisms such as "smokestacks" instead of chimneys and what happened to Mr.P?
