I became a Yankee fan during the 1964 world series. Eight years old at the time and no clue about their imminent decline. I can recall being terribly upset when Mickey Mantle retired. I would religiously read the weekly team updates and articles in The Sporting News. Each season (until 1977) brought renewed hope and eventual disapointment. But living 3000 miles away, didn't really know what was going on with the team. This book is filling in all those gaps. I didn't realize just how much the game itself has changed since those years, mostly having to do with starting pitching where pitchers would regularly pitch complete games in those years, a rarity now days.

The book is full of stories from those years. For a 50-plus years Yankee fan, it's been difficult to put down.
