George Müller (born Johann Georg Ferdinand Müller) was a Christian evangelist and Director of the Ashley Down orphanage in Bristol, England, cared for 10,024 orphans in his life. He was well known for providing an education to the children under his care, to the point where he was accused of raising the poor above their natural station in life. He also established 117 schools which offered Christian education to over 120,000 children, many of them being orphans. On 26 March 1875, at the age of 70 and after the death of his first wife in 1870 and his marriage to Susannah Grace Sanger in 1871, Müller and Susannah began a 17-year period of missionary travel. He travelled over 200,000 miles, an incredible achievement for pre-aviation times. His language abilities allowed him to preach in English, French, and German, and his sermons were translated into the host languages when he was unable to use English, French or German. God used him mightily all over the world and always provided for him everywhere that he went. In 1892, he returned to England, where he went to be with the Lord at the age of 92.

The principles of prayer described in this book are simple, straightforward, and drawn directly from Scripture. I was so encouraged to be reminded of God’s faithfulness and power throughout George Muller’s life. Lord Jesus, teach us to pray!

I've read other books about Muller before, but this one I completed in one sitting. The book is a compilation of thoughts from Muller's autobiography. It would be hard to find a man who trusted God more. Muller is an example of what it means to live in total dependence on the Lord. Inspiring.

I love reading about George Muller he is such an amazing example of what your life can achieve when you submit it to God. He also is so practical about things as some books you read and think they are great but see no relevance to your life. George gives information on things he did on a day to day basis that we can all do.
Wonderful book which was easy to read.

George Mueller's classic writing about praying in faith has stood the test of time. These detailed notes about his needs, his prayers, and God's answers over time, show how God will respond to a faithful heart.

Time after time, George Mueller, a pastor, a missionary, and evangelist of the 19th century, stresses that he has no special ability or favor with God. Rather, he first humbles himself before God, seeks God's will above his own, and then listening to God, does what God tells him.

This kind of faith didn't come all at once to George Mueller. Rather, he testifies he slowly grew in faith as God gave him greater and greater challenges throughout his Christian ministry. The problems may be complex, such as George's problem at one of his orphanages: the boiler for the heater was leaking. It was walled up behind solid brick. Replacing it would take months. It was the middle of the winter.

George Mueller sought God's will and brought in the repairmen. He prayed for a south (warm) wind and for the men to work with a will. The wind switched from the north to the south while the men worked. They worked all night by their own will and repaired it by the morning. The orphans were never inconvenienced.

I recommend this book for every Christian who wishes to pray in faith. I also recommend it for every skeptic who wants to find out why Christians have faith.

This book is based on selections from the writings of George Muller. "His legacy remains and continues to touch lives because of the committed Christians who follow the godly example of a man who took God at His Word." Muller died in 1898 and his work continues through the Muller Foundation which has a 3-fold purpose of care, faith and evangelism. Over the last century the initial ministry of homes for orphans has changed as the culture changed. Instead of large buildings housing and educating orphans the emphasis has moved to family homes housing 10-12 children with married parents as caregivers. The Foundation staff intend to shift gradually from directly providing services to joining in partnership with local churches and other associated ministries equipping them and others for ministry.

Muller himself was a man of deep faith in the power of prayer. In all his years of ministry he never once asked anyone for funding. He brought all his needs directly to God and expected God to provide. At the end of Muller's life he was asked if God always provided and he said enthusiastically yes. The stories in this book of how God met every need are inspiring. God does keep His promises and never fails. I am encouraged to pray with greater expectation of what God will do.

A very helpful and faith-building book about the constancy and efficacy of prayer in the life and work of George Muller. I was challenged and encouraged to go deeper into faith and hope, for the glory of God and the love of God's children.

This book is basically the biography of Muller's prayer life. While I was already familiar with his story, I still found it both inspiring and convicting. It is going on my list of books to reread every year or two!

A Biography of George Muller

This book is a very good biography of the man, George Muller. It includes many of his first person accounts from his own journals. One thing that was a bit disappointing about the book was that there were only a few of the miraculous answers to prayer that I have read elsewhere. This wasn't that kind of story. It was more about Muller's conversion and the history of his work in the orphanages. It ends with information on the continuing work after Miller's death.
