Maisy's plan to have a quiet read is put to the challenge by her giggling friends in this picture book ode to the pleasures of the local library.
Maisy likes going to the library. She loves to read a book in a nice, quiet place.
Today, Maisy wants to read a book about fish, but she can only find books about birds or tigers. So she explores some of the other things to do in the library, like using the computer, making copies, listening to music, or looking at fish in the aquarium. Aha! Finally Maisy finds a sparkly book all about fish. But just as she settles into a corner to read, along come Cyril, Tallulah, Eddie, and Ostrich — and they all have noisier activities on their minds!

Another cute little Maisy book which my daughter enjoyed. My local library has recently reopened after being closed for over a year for refurbishments so I thought I would celebrate with my daughter with a book about the library. It was cute and all done in the original Maisy style. There were only a couple things to do with the storyline which I wasn't so keen on. The book introduced us to some services that may not be available in your local library, so it might be worth having a read through first before reading it to a child as once you say 'oh, we can't do that at ours', you might have a disappointed kiddie. Also, I would of liked if the book focused more on the 'books' part of the library more than just messing around with friends. In my opinion this meant that this book missed some really good opportunities to make libraries more exciting for children.
My young one and I are obsessed with the library and through this Maisy book, it is not hard to see why. Libraries are amazing places but also Maisy is gentle and patient when she wishes to read in peace but her friends don’t think so. No wonder they host her surprise birthday parties.
I loved Maisy as a child, and as an adult she's just as cute. As someone who works and volunteers in childcare settings I really appreciate the fun, unique art style and intriguing yet simple stories. It's no wonder these books were a hit. The narration is so enthused, I love it.
Technically I read this to M twice because she has two copies of this book, but for purposes of my own tracking, I’m only counting it once. Look at my self control and restraint. I’m so proud of me. 😅
So apparently Maisy's library doesn't use the Dewey Decimal System?? Also, the continuity of this story is minimal (I think the cartoon is better than the books, as far as Maisy goes). But I do enjoy that the circulation clerk is a peacock. And the art style is still charming. For the smallest readers, this is a good pick-- but for anyone older than 4, the story is a bit too loose.
Lucy Cosuins has won several awards for her books, including the Gold Award in the Parents Play and Learn Awards and the BolognaRagazzi Children's Non-Fiction Award for Maisy's House. She won the Smarties Gold Award for her picture book Jazzy in the Jungle as well. This book" maisy goes to the library" is about Maisy the mouse, spends a crazy day at the library and themstarts searching for a book on fish. She finds all animal books but the fishes one. when she finds a book she likes , she reads it and then shows her friends. When her friedns show up they then shpow he that there is ore to the library than just reading . Maisy shows us prefers to readand that she had chosen a non fiction book. I rated this 4 because since I did enjouy reading and the illistrations , I dont think I would read it again. I like this book for kids because Its illisarions are simple and child like, and the plot is recognizable. An activity I would do with kids would be to take the,m to the library and see and make them pcik books they think they would read, once they are done i would help them list what kinds of books they prefer the most. In the end we would lable the genre, type, and whether it is fiction or non fiction.
Seeing a Maisy book brings back memories of working for a book distributor and seeing all the books in a box ready to be reviewed or added to my long sales catalogue that would be given to the bookstore or library buyers.
For the parents who haven't discovered Maisy and friends - go check the books out.
Maisy Goes to the Library: A Maisy First Experience Book by Lucy Cousins is a sweet book from the beloved series. I have a special place in my heart for Maisy books! They were my oldest daughter, Sienna’s favorites when she was a toddler. We loved collecting the little treasures and read them on a nightly basis. Sienna was so proud to write her name in the front that said, "this book belongs to _____". I ordered this book as soon as I realized there was a library themed Maisy book. It arrived on Sienna's 17th birthday. So perfect! I loved reading it aloud to pre-k & kindergarten., when I was an elementary school librarian.
The concept of going to the library is too common. All Maisy did was discover a library and its resources. Her friends join her for story time and they walk out happy. I like original ideas in books where the characters discover books that come alive, or gets sucked into library books. I like books where characters in libraries are told to quiet down or a misshap happens to books on shelves. There is really no plot located at the end of the story. The story also mentions that characters can listen to music there, but it does not mention movies.
The Maisy books always have charming illustrations, but the story quality varies widely. This installment doesn't have much of a plot, and just showcases the different things Maisy's library has to offer. The downside of this is that every library system is different, and this book could just make kids feel disappointed that their library doesn't have an aquarium. I passed this up for storytime because of the specifics that don't fit my context.
This is an excellent book for children. It explains all of the things that children can do in the library and makes it a positive experience. Maisy has fun and laughs in a reading group of other children. This book would be great to help children feel comfortable in the library as well as learn how useful the library is.
Maisy is excited about going to the library to quietly read a book about fish. Instead, she discovers the many other things that kids can do there! Her adventure shows children how fun the library can be. This is a good informational book for children that teaches them the joys of exploring the library and the many things one can do there.

Maisy Goes to the Library would be a good book for sight words or a book for new readers. The story line is practical and easy to understand. Children can relate to this book by sharing their first experience at the library and for others friends it can encourage to visit the library is some of the children have never been.
This story is great for young children as it teaches them the purpose of the library and how to look for books. The illustrations are simple and colorful. The story also teaches how children can pretend to be characters from their favorite stories and expand their imaginations.
This book covered what it is like to go to the library and things there are to do. Maisy finds a book to read and is looking for a quiet place to do so. A book with simple illustrations with bright color, that could be used to help teach children about the library and what it has to offer.
I think this is a wonderful book for a young child to read. When they read the story, they will learn that reading can be something to enjoy, as well as an important way in which to find important information.
Maisy is excited to go the library but doesnt realize all that she will discover when she gets there. Maisy is focused on getting a book but then finds out there is so much more she can do at the libary. The book has easy simple pictures and wording for young children to follow along to.
Decent book. It is a good book to get going at a very low level of reading with youngsters. I would say this is a book for pre-k or even lower level kindergarten. Only learning point I could think of would be to talk about the manners needed to be in a library.
My son has become very obsessed with the Maisy series. We bought two from a thrift store, we found this one at the library. He loves the characters and the quality is the same throughout the series. Much loved.
Very cute, clever, and clear. Small-sized book about going to the library for story time. Maisey series. Also makes reference to the "Rainbow Fish" series and the "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly" series.
Great illustrations, short sentences, all the good stuff you expect from Maisy. Minus one star because the fish books are "by the aquarium" (that's not how cataloging works!) and there's apparently no librarian at this library! Iris doesn't care, but I do.
A super simple trip the library Maisy style. I was a bit disappointed that the ostrich who read the kids a story wasn't identified as a librarian - that's a missed opportunity. This wasn't outstanding or horrible, just a Maisy book.
