I was saved under Robert Jordan's ministry, so this book had special importance to me. Dr. Jordan also personally signed this book when giving it to my wife and I and so that was very special as well. Only Jesus Christ could save a swearing, unsaved sailor and change him into a new person who would pastor thousands of people in Lansdale Pennsylvania. This book was an excellent resource when learning about the errors of Calvinism and Arminianism. It is also an excellent source on eternal security. I highly recommend this book for the new and old believer alike.
I attended Calvary Baptist Theological Seminary and later became a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lansdale in the 1990s-2000s. Chief was still teaching pastoral theology classes when I arrived and required us to have files on every subject we found. He was a master at motivation.
This book definitely sounds like him. He has a strong testimony in life and loved to confront any form of pacifistic evangelism or what he perceived to be unsound doctrine. I only rated the book as a 3 star because outsiders or those not familiar with Chief would not appreciate all that he says here. If one is familiar with Chief, it’s a 4 star.
He really emphasized sharing his testimony which is something I’ve carried on in my ministry. Jesus did not shed His blood to see us remain the same. If we are not saved, we are not His.
Much of the last part of the book are sermons and/or lessons we heard in class with him. I don’t think he did good exegesis on every passage he quotes, but he sure makes his case by the abundance of Scripture he uses for argumentation.
The last time I remember seeing Chief is when I returned from my deployment to the Middle East. He came up to me and mumbled something. By then his ability to speak was gone. However, by the way he motioned and spoke, I understood he had been praying for me throughout that most miserable year of my Christian life and ministry. God used him to sustain me and I’ll never be able to thank him enough.
Chief was probably the most dependable guy I’ve ever met, especially in the service of Christ. I need to be more like him.

Part autobiography, part analysis of problems facing churches and Christians in their lives. The latter is discussed through the former thus making for more interesting reading and not at all a dry theological tome.
