I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.

No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.

I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.

TRIGGER WARNING: RAPE, SEXUAL SLAVERY

I suppose you wonder why I'm reading this thinly disguised rape porn. Well, it's because I was searching for some cyborg erotica.

Why would you want cyborg erotica, Carmen?

Well, years and years ago... maybe about a decade ago... I read a really good, funny, touching story about a human and a cyborg falling in love. It was sweet. I read it and re-read it. I just wanted to recreate the feeling that story gave me originally.

However, the cyborg erotica I found was horrible. Not horrible as in 'rape-filled' but horrible as in 'unreadable.' Just trash, unreadable trash.

Then we have this book, which I read two years ago. I'll describe the plot under a spoiler tag.

Well, there you have it. Asshole, abusive Iron is going to be the 'hero' of the third book.

This book put me off cyborg erotica for two years. I was so sickened and scarred by it that I didn't pick up any more.

But now I have read and will be reviewing the rest of the series. Dohner gets gentler as the series goes on - this is by far the most brutal and contains the most disgusting elements of any book in the series. It does get better, although we never really escape from the rape-and-sexual-slavery thing.

CAVEAT: This might be totally your thing. That is okay. If imagining being dominated and raped by a huge, handsome, sexy man with a big penis who ends up 'falling for you' is your thing - that's alright. I'm not judging. As for me, no. This turned my stomach. The rapes, the constant threats of beatings, the branding, and the begging and pleading of a truly terrified woman just really turn me off. Dohner makes this more disgusting than she needs to, I think, with additions like However, I think she realizes this and backs off a little in the sequels, which made ME feel a tiny bit better, but if you're really into hardcore extreme stuff you might be disappointed.

Tl;dr - This book made me so sick to my stomach that I couldn't read cyborg erotica for two years. Your mileage may vary. The author never uses the term "rape" in this book even though the book is chock-full of it. She apparently believes (correctly) that this word will be a huge turn-off to female readers. Instead she says stuff like "have sex" and sometimes "force you." It's interesting to see the gymnastics she goes through to avoid the word 'rape.' Because in the end this is a 'love story' in which we are supposed to believe these two people live happily ever after as slave and master. Not pretend slave and master, actual literal slave and master.

Like I said, a perfectly reasonable fantasy for some people, I'm sure. If reading my review turned you on a lot, please go for this book. For erotica it is insanely well-written and well-plotted. This isn't 'unreadable trash.' (Trust me, I've read enough unreadable trash to know.) It's extremely readable and Dohner is a good writer and describes 'sex' in an extremely detailed and talented way. She'll get gentler and more reasonable as the series goes on, but still within the confines of non-con erotica.

ONE STAR with the caveat that this book is the anti-Carmen.

Unfortunately this book is my must hate book of 2010. If I didn't have an ereader, this book would have hit the wall at great speed.

I thought the "hero" was an absolutely heartless, unromantic, horrible creature. He treated the heroine badly and I couldn't find any romance in this book at all. I did read it till the end and in my eyes the hero did not redeem himself in any way whatsoever. He was horrible right to the end.

I've loved all this author's books (love the Zorn series and her others, other than the cyborg books which I haven't read at all at this time after hating this book so much) so I was quite shocked that she would produce a hero such as this. In all her other books I've read, the hero has treated his heroine like gold so I expected the same here - not so; bad, bad, bad hero.

I've been assured by another reader that the other cyborg books are okay, that this hero is the only jerk, so I'll go check out the rest now in the hopes that I can love those books. I don't think I'll read Iron's book though, he was such a b*stard in this book, I don't want to know about him.

But this one, sorry author, but no!

EDITED TO ADD: See Mamimi's review - she said it so well, my feelings exactly! (unfortunately after I put this here her review disappeared - a pity because it was one of the best reviews I've ever read - she expressed my revulsion for this book so perfectly)

I have never gone back to read these Cyborg books - can't do it after this one. Her New Species are wonderful and just what I expect from this author - this one ... just no.

So, I was doing that thing where you don't know what you want to read next so you are wandering through your e-reader and listopia, and I was visited by two spirits. The first one was my old friend and literature teacher who said to me: Jilly, this is a perfect time to catch up on some of those classics. You can expand your mind and vocabulary. The second spirit was the spirit of Kelly's porny librarian. She said, "Cyborg porn." She made a good point. I mean, it would also expand my mind, right? How do cyborg's procreate? They are part machine, right? Do they have settings like the spin cycle of my washing machine, or are they more like a roomba - bumbling around until they knock into something? These questions need to be answered.

In the name of science!

So, let me start out by saying that I've already read the first 4 of these books, and this one is terrible. Just horrible. But, it's like an accident. You don't want to see, but you can't look away.

Stop that! What the hell's wrong with you?

You will be asking the question: "what the hell's wrong with you?" a lot when you read this book. Both to yourself, and to the characters - who are awful.

Our "heroine" is Mira, who is an idiot. She gets kidnapped by a cyborg and he decides to keep her as a sex slave. Right away, we have dubious consent. But, of course, she falls in love with her captor almost immediately. Then, she runs away. But, instead of letting her go, he captures her back and sells her to a sadistic cyborg who will sell her as a sex slave. She gets down on her hands and knees and begs her original captor to keep her instead, promising her complete submission and obedience. She immediately breaks that promise and is a pain in the ass who gives angst a new definition. She angsts over this guy so bad that she would give Bella Swan a run for her money.

Why oh why doesn't my captor love me??

Later, when he tells her something she doesn't like, she decides to kill herself to get him to give in. That was AFTER she asked him to kill her earlier in the book. Seriously. Bella. Swan.

Mira has.

Anyway, like I said, this book is horrible. But, it's so horrible that you enjoy it. You find yourself saying,"What? That makes no sense!" many times. Like, how they have 5 women to every man on the planet so the women have to take multiple husbands, and yet the men also have "breeding contracts" so that they are forced to breed with any woman whose husband can't knock her up. Really? You have three husband's and they are ALL sterile? Um, aren't there a lot of other available guys out there? You really need to FORCE some guy who is in a relationship to breed with you? Um, okay. Is there enough oxygen on your planet, cuz you all be cray-cray! Oh, but there's so much more. The crazy goes deep in this series. On to the next review!

Cover & Title - 4 out of 5

I do not think i have ever said "what the fuck?" so many times during reading a book. After reading other books by this author i was expecting the same sort of thing but this book was confusing & at times so bad/dull/awful.
Flint was completely reserved & uncaring, I do not think a hero can be a hero if they are like this. He in the end claimed to love her, i was seriously like
[image error]
He kidnaps her, pretty much forces her to have sex with him, lies to her all the time, sells her to another man, ignores her when she is injured... i could go on but i won't. I felt no love & no chemistry between them.
And Mira -

I also think she may of had Stockholm Syndrome.

Bender has more feelings & holds more interest for me.

I would not recommend this book, others by the author yes.. this NO.

"I never thought I could feel so much for someone but I feel everything for you."

Mira happened to be at the right place at the wrong time, taken captive by Cyborgs, a race she thought to be extinct. Flint, the leader of the ship was entranced the moment he saw her, she didn’t look at him and his kin like a walking science project, and she looked at him as if he was a man. The moment she smiled and took his hand has sealed her fate
"I never had a desire to own a woman before, Mira. When I met you and you took my hand I didn’t want to release it. You smiled at me and you made me laugh."

Mira and Flint have their battle cut out for them, misunderstandings in their culture causes heated arguments and issues. As happy as Mira is to learn that the Cyborgs do in fact exist, she is not so happy to be taken and owned, like a piece of property. The obligations Flint has to his people tear Mira up inside and she is so upset that he can’t understand why she feels the way she does
"If you weren’t such a strong, big son of a bitch, I’d at least try to slap you for that ‘obey me’ crap you keep saying. I’m not a lap dog."

Who would have ever though that Cyborgs could be so freakin HOT! Totally underestimated they are, Flint was sweet in his own way, everything Mira learned as she grew up has been a lie so she has no clue how to deal with Flint and his world. This is def. a series I will follow, can’t wait to read the next one.

Just wanted to share one of my favorite parts in the book, and no it was not about sex … lol
"Pod 3? Are we still being pursued?"
"Affirmative."
"Son of a bitch!"
"Order not understood. Please restate order."
"He’s going to kill me."
"Order not understood. Please restate order."
"Pod 3? Stop talking to me."
"Order understood."

Flint & Mirasia Carver (Mira)

Exciting Cyborg series, which combines sci-fi erotica, action and of course humor in large quantities. The first book is mainly introductory, although the story of Flint and Mia is solid and the characters are well developed.

Cyborgs were created by humans and Mira thought that they were all destroyed until she was captured by them and chosen by Flint. The main part of their relationship involves forced submission for little scared Mira. She becomes property of Flint and she is bedded and branded with his tattoos before she has the chance to ask “Do Cyborgs have sex like normal humans?”.

Her desperate attempts to escape have horrific results. She is captive by mutant pirates who want to use her first and sell her later. Flint will save her but he will not want her anymore. And then Mira starts begging. And begging...

Maybe Mira falls in love too fast with the heartless Cyborg.
Maybe Flint is too harsh with the human woman that he grabbed without asking her if she will miss Earth.
Still the story will captivate most of the sci-fi romance lovers and most of Lauren Dohner’s fans.

Well, this was my first Cyborg book but definitely not my last.

makeout

Flint is a Cyborg on a pirating mission to get supplies to take to his home planet. He wasn't looking for a woman, and he didn't seam capable of love until, he met Mira.

cyborg

Mira is taken by Flint and branded as his property. To say she isn't happy with accepting that title is and understatement. She finds herself falling in love with Flint but would rather die than spend the rest of her life as just property for a cyborg, that can never love her. She fights back and causes herself a lot of trouble and heartache in the process. Of course, one should never assume that another is incapable of love.

"I never thought I could feel so much for someone but I feel everything for you.”

Mira

The love scenes are as hot as you can expect with Laurann Dohner. I look forward to reading more of this series. This would have been a solid 4 star if Mira hadn't been such an emotional disaster and a more stable emotionally. Her insecurities got on my nerves. But I still can't wait to read the next book in this series!

I have friends who hated the hero, Flint. There were sections of the book he was a HUGE d-bag! He was a cyborg so he had no idea he was being one, but still. Had to feel for the heroine...

But I still really enjoyed the book and the setup for the series.

You have to be a little forgiving when reading this series to some things that would be TOTALLY unacceptable in contemp. romance. I just told myself they were freaking cyborgs living on another planet. Things are different. Once I understood that the series really is "safe" I was able to handle the stuff that bothered me.

WTF? Romance? uh, he rapes her first chance he gets on his ship AND then brands her as his possession. And she supposedly is in love-at-first-sight with him and all so very sad about what happened to the cyborgs in the past. And then she gets all upset that he might have sex with other women or possibly share her. ON THE SAME DAY HE KIDNAPS HER!

And don't get me started on the erotic part of the romance. Not erotic at all. We get the obligatory "you'll expose yourself to me and anyone else I want you to and you'll like it". And a rape masquerading as a forced seduction. After a third into the book, I said fuck it, this isn't worth my time. Boring characters and a rehashing of bad SF erotic romance make for a sad book. I figured by now we'd be beyond this.

I mean, it didn't even have epic wtf-ery to save it. It's just boring with bad writing.

I was interested in a later book in this series and decided to start here and read in order. I read the others reviews and the people who didn't like it had some valid points but I think I'm coming at it from a different place. First of all some of the things that bothered people are the types of things that were pretty typical happenings in the bodice rippers of the old days. And since I avidly read them as a teenager in the 70s, my mind just told me "bodice ripper" and I went with it.

Also I am a huge fan of sci fi romance so it gets an extra half star just for genre. I thought the world building here was pretty good. You don't have to like or want to live in the world the author has created you just have to be able to clearly understand it in order for it to be good world building. Also I like that alien worlds/cultures are different from Earth culture/accepted norms. Otherwise what is the point in writing an SFR?

Flint was an ass true but he was a cyborg. I didn't want him to act like a human. I, in fact, thought that he came to his "lightning bulb moment" where he realizes he loves her much too easily. Mira was a bit wimpy and I didn't agree with all her actions but she was true to how she was written. She was a pretty weak woman not a butt kicking heroine at all. She didn't suddenly change in the middle of the book.

Unlike some SFR books which I feel are mislabeled, this one is really erotica. The scenes are explicit, raunchy and plentiful and not necessarily full of love.

I will definitely go on with the series.

I was curious about a cyborg/human romance and how it would all work out. Unfortunately, this book barely touches on the romance. Instead, Flint takes Mira as his property and forces her to do what he says under the guise that he doesn't want to hurt her.

Mira is over the top and goes to extremes on everything. She doesn't get that she's "property" and makes outrageous demands.

I was intrigued by the lack of emotions that Flint supposedly had but that was a farce. He had feelings and then some...he just wanted what he wanted.

I think this book would be better with more depth. It was too short and got taken over by all the back story. I'm a little tempted to read some of the other Cyborg stories but maybe at a later date.

Loved it until the half way point where the H sold her to another in anger. He knew this new guy would rape her, and yet he still sold her..

Before that, he was acting super possessive and I thought he was falling in love with her. After he sold her, I just didn’t believe that he truly loved her, because what man in love could sell the woman he loves to another knowing he would rape her?

And so many reviewers were going over board with the rape in this book, a book based on cyborg, abduction and captivity!
What did people expect?. Jeez.
It’s more forced seduction.🙄. He even winked at her while giving her oral their first time.

He boards her ship.
Steals stuff.
He’s insta attracted to her so he steals her too.
He’s not brutal to her.
He asks her to take her clothes off and lay in his bed. She does.
Then he seduces her.

Reviewers are so hysterical these days.🙄

Safety
No virgins
No cheating
Minor ow drama. She wants him, he doesn’t want her.

Good Angst. There’s a law on his planet where every male and female must reproduce to save their race.
If a couple is having trouble having a baby, then they bring in another person. This means that every male is in some sort of pact and if called on to help a couple, then he must then go have sex with the wife. It’s the law, and if he refuses then he can be jailed.
Of course when the human h finds out about this law, she wasn’t having it.😂 It all gets resolved at the end. His boss removed him from the pact in return for a favor. He will never have to cheat on the h.
Ends in HEA.

This was an "okay" read for me...

Flint is a cyborg, a race created by humans many, many moons ago (we aren't given a date for this setting, but it is clearly well into the future) and thought to be eradicated once they started thinking/feeling for themselves; thus, imagine Mira's surprise when a giant cyborg alpha male comes through the hatch of her commandeered ship as she is en route back to Earth after a two month work trip to various space destinations. Upon seeing Mira, Flint knows he must have her, so he claims her as his property and brings her back to his ship filled with dozens of dangerously horny cyborg men (let's just say they've been in space for awhile by this point). Cyborgs are known to share property, especially those of the sexual nature, so Flint knows he has to make it clear that she is his and brands her almost immediately. Meanwhile, Mira is a human who actually sympathized with the cyborg's plight when they were thought to no longer exist, but she has changed her opinion now that she has been kidnapped, called "property," and tied down to a bed for the commander's pleasure. She soon realizes that she feels more for this being that she thought possible, but since he is a cyborg, can he ever truly reciprocate those feelings?

What I liked:
--- Lots, lots, lots, of smutastic scenes
--- DEcent plot line, though I felt it could have been made more robust
--- Since I am not usually a fan of Sci-Fi and often give up somewhere in the beginning or middle, kudos to this one that somehow managed to be just interesting enough to get me to stick around to the end

What I didn't like as much:
--- I am still struggling with the dubious consent aspect of some of these stories (note that I did not take any stars off for this because it was implied in the blurb so I knew what I was getting into)
--- The main characters were unlikable at times (Flint is a matter-of-fact cyborg and came across as a total asshole more than a few times; Mira was immature and whiny in parts of the story --- her nearly "instalove" for him made zero sense)
--- The other characters (with the exception of the doctor and Flint's boss who appeared towards the end of the book) were very unlikable to the extent that I am not sure I want to read on (one of them in particular was straight effed up -- his story is book 3 and I cannot imagine that the author - or anyone for that matter - can make him at all appealing)
--- Some of the dialogue was silly/campy

Overall, a don't take anything seriously, escape from reality, over-the-top in every way possible, prepare for some serious smut read.

Plot --- 3/5
Main Characters --- 2.5/5
Supporting Cast --- 1.5/5
Smut Situation --- early and often
Language --- not egregious
Violence --- minimal (possible triggers with dubious consent and light BDSM -- specifically, tying down)
POV --- 3rd

I want a Cyborg! Ha, I loved this series the first time I read it. But I love it, even more, the second time.

I love how different it is, how caveman like Flint is as most of the cyborgs are.
But what I love the most is how the Mira might protest, but she doesn't really protest that much. She really grew to have fast feeling for the big guy.

I think it was cute yep I said cute how he had to learn to be with her, and in turn, his own feelings became more than he was bargaining for.

Starting the next one, oh and Mindy does a phenomenal job with this narration! Loved it love her can’t wait to hear more.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

A really promising debut to the Cyborg series. The introduction of lots of other hot Cyborgs (Iron, Steel, Cal) paves the way nicely for follow-up books. I love the idea of the Cyborgs colonizing their own planet and wished we could have spent more time there...want to know more about the mysterious other intelligent life on the planet Garden (weird amphibian humanoids). Some things did annoy me a bit. Mira falls in love way too fast with Flint, she also totally forgets about her own life (she doesn't once ask to phone family, friends or even work to quit her job). It's also strange that Mira can just get taken by Flint and there are no repercussions, no rescue party or search. Once she's settled on the ship, she doesn't do anything but sit in Flint's tiny room and wait for him. There's no TV, no books, no music...doesn't she get bored?
I will definitely keep reading since I've heard the next books are much better. Still love you Laurann, but this book should have been longer with more meat on the bones.

Inspired by a recent discussion on another thread, I went to seek out some robo-romance. After all, I've always had strange machine fetish. It should be right up my alley, right?

Well, the natural step is to check out the series that top all the robot/cyborg/android-related lists. I mean, first all the books in it, than the rest. On every single one. Therefore, it must be good, even if it's EC. Right? Right?

WRONG.

And so I complained about The Iron Duke.

And so I complained about Fifty Shades. Several times.

And so I complained about Reaper's Property.

Oh how naive I was.

I didn't think there was need to read much further. Only the fact that it was stationed on an expensive piece of technology prevented it from flying straight through the closed window. Okay, cold weather outside helped too.

Maybe I'll revisit it someday when I feel more like ripping it apart. Maybe. Not likely.

Well, at least the popularity of this debunks that ancient yet somehow still oft-perpetrated prejudice that men only care about getting plug A into slot B while ladies care more about romance than getting down and dirty. Nope, it appears ladies love reading about paste-yourself-here avatars getting roggered with little care for consent or diseases. Yay empowerment?

2 ½ stars. The weakest story in the series. Too many conflicts were based on inaccurate assumptions and stupid actions.

STORY BRIEF:
Cyborgs have a shortage of women and sometimes take human females as mates. Flint is captain of a Cyborg ship which raids another ship. Flint sees Mira a human on the other ship. He is attracted to her and asks if she has any children on earth. She says no. He then kidnaps her for himself. His didn’t want to take her away from any children. He should have told Mira that he planned to marry her and have children with her, but he didn’t. She believes he sees her as property, he will tire of later, and then give her away. She also believes he will have sex with other females.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
Mira makes false assumptions and then does extreme things - which is not good storytelling. I wanted a better story. The writing style is good. The sex scenes are pretty good. The only reason I didn’t give this fewer stars was that I didn’t feel a need to read fast to get it over with. I read it with some interest and hoped it would get better. On balance, I give it a “weak ok.”

I love Susan’s comment (an Amazon reviewer) who says it well “most of the conflict in the book occurs because Mira panics over imagined situations. Oh no, what if this hypothetical situation occurs sometime in the indeterminate future? Her reaction is to run around like a moron and end up in a life threatening situation. Not once, but twice.” (Thank you Susan.)

OTHER BOOKS:
This is part of the Cyborg Seduction series. I did not read them in order. I read #4 and 5 first, and I was fine with that. But someone else recommended reading them in order, which is probably a good idea if you don’t mind reading the lower ratings first. A few things might flow a little better. My ratings are:
Burning Up Flint #1 (2 ½ stars)
Kissing Steel #2 (3 stars)
Melting Iron #3 (3 stars)
Touching Ice #4 (4 stars)

Okay...right off the bat.

This might get a little crude....so, there might be cussing...if that bothers you, turn back now.

First time...no issue. It's not dubious consent, she said no. That's Non-consent.
I think, Okay, at least the author is going to own it. That's a good thing.

uhh...not the way it turned out.

Apparently, all Mira needed was one good dicking, and she's in love.

Immediately, she wants Flint. Wants to be more than property. Wants to be his, him to be hers.
What?
He's a good in bed...so you forget that he ignored your NO, and now you want to be his SOUL MATE?

blah blah blah.

Lost me after that.

If you wanna cross from dubious con, to non con...OWN IT.

okay....I tried to get past that. I tried.

then HE SOLD HER!
Oh...you didn't realize he was going to abuse her, and share her?
Ummm...yeah, I think it was pretty clear, before the deal was made that he wasn't going to treat her like a princess.

I'm done!

Oh wait...I don't have another book with me?
Crap, I guess I'm back in. Can't DNF with no back up book.

*Spoilers*
I liked certain aspects of this book. The sex scenes were really good, and I thought the emotions were intense, I almost cried. However the reason I almost cried was because I felt so freaking bad for Mira. Granted her reaction to a lot of her situations was really dimwitted and weird, I still liked that she was accepting of Flint from the time they met. She wanted him, and you felt that from the moment they laid eyes on each other. Although, their relationship was completely messed up, granted I got he was a cyborg and they have this whole cyborg world and cyborg rules, but YUCK! Having a really great strong male lead but reading him completely treat what should be a strong female lead like nothing, even though he wants her so much he takes her off her own ship, is just too much. At one point she begged him like a dog, because she was so scared of the other cyborg and his nasty plans for her, and what does flint do for her, has sex with her, tells her it's not because he is taking her back, and continues to tell her what will happen to her. for the sake of his cyborg pride. **shakes my head** It was disgusting and heart wrenching, but maybe that was what the writer was going for....? I found it hard to believe that for all Flint's shows of "softness" he couldn't understand why she get upset or be "irrational" when she couldn't understand the "cyborg way". How is that anymore irrational?!

I was surfing for alien smut...and ended up with cyborg smut...oh well... Never read about cyborgs before....all the more reason to try it.
It contains a lot of triggers...so be careful when picking it up I guess.
I'm not going to go into story or plot analysis... because I highly doubt anyone will be reading it as enriching literature.
Would I recommend it? No not really.

Ok, I really liked this book. I love this author. I should probably give it 5 stars. It evoked all the emotions from me that the author probably aimed for. However, this roller coaster ride was a bit rough for me. SATISFYING nonetheless, but quite a tummy twister. I won't recap because the synopsis I think does a good job of that. Explaining how Flint and Mira have a strong desire for each other but being from different worlds, their ideologies are so extremely different that it becomes a struggle for them.

It began, for me, very sweet and touching. I loved her receptiveness to him. Her unique tolerance to his race. His adorable naivete about her ways and their initial discovery of each other. And yes, his delicious possessive nature of her. Then it seemed to suddenly dip in to a free fall of emotional angst as they realized how different they were and how she absolutely, no way, no how, could NOT accept sharing him in any way with others. His laws and obligations so totally conflicted with her moral expectations and beliefs. I could tell he wanted to do the right things by her. He was nothing if not totally blunt and up front with her. But he just couldn't wrap his mind around her way of thinking. And the only way he knew how to be was a cyborg's usual matter-of-fact nature. Very logical and rational. Right in the middle of this there was a major incident that happened that caused them both to act incredibly irrational and consequently had them briefly separating. That was tough because I don't blame Mira for her actions, even though they were extreme and a bit reckless. But as a 'human' woman myself, I understood. His reaction was very shocking and very difficult for me to deal with. It caused lots of warring emotions in me. Especially when Mira felt she needed to beg Flint for his forgiveness and plead with him to take her back. BEG him!! My stubborn female pride really rebelled. Because she was valid in her feelings. It just took a really long time for them to get on the same page. And the ups and downs did not stop there! There were more issues through out this somewhat short story that caused a myriad of emotions and reactions in me.

So in that regard I suppose LD was successful in her mission. But, it was tough.... Whew! But I'm glad I hung in there. Because, in true Laurann Dohner fashion, the story came together sweetly and beautifully. I will continue to read this series, of course. But I will tread lightly in to the next one, because I'm sure it is bound to be another emotional ride.

BY THE WAY - the love scenes are hot!! Very sweet at times and totally raw at other times. Loved it!! Well done!!

Feb. 12, 2022-reread ... listened to the audio... leaving the review/rating as is... audiobook narrator does a good job.

I’m a big LD fan, I’ve read 33 of her books and they’re typically a 3*** or better. When I set my 2020 reading goal, I also decided to clean-up/add reviews for her books, and Cyborg Seduction is the last of them. (nothing like barely making the deadline😊) Her books are all pretty formulaic, and there’s almost always insta-lust-love. Like her New Species (NS) series, the Cyborgs were created/abused by Earth’s govt, and most hate humans.

3.5 Stars

Burning Up Flint is the first book in this series. There’s some world building/info dumping, and they’re paving the way for the future couples, so it’s a bumpy ride. Flint can be a total ass at times and super bossy. Mira is a smidge wimpy. She’s a total clinger and is basically begging him for a commitment the entire book. With that said, I did find them both pretty likable.

Unlike her NS books, the cyborgs don’t live on Earth, so humans have zero rights and are considered property. Although most have instant attraction (IMO) the Cyborgs are not as open/dedicated/lovestruck to becoming attached to a human as the NS guys who pretty much carried their gals around on pillows. This makes a bit more drama, angst because most of the books have some hesitation/unrequited feelings from the H’s. (I can’t think of a h that pushes her H away or is upset with being kidnapped/recovered.

Bottom Line- Not a bad start to the series. As I mentioned above, most of these have the same feel, so if you absolutely hated it, you might want to quit.

Wow I can’t believe I paid for this flaming turdburger. Cyborg captures and enslaves human female. Sexually assaults her and she runs away (steals an escape pod-ship, you know...the usual).

He rescues her from feral radioactive space pirates and then, feeling robot butt-hurt, sells her to an abusive shipmate. Oh! no! Mira is skeeeerrrd. But she begs forgiveness! “Please take me back and re-enslave me, Flint! I’ll be your obedient sex slave!”

He begrudgingly complies, and she’s overjoyed!

Mira: “Yaaayyyy I’m a slave to a NICE WELL HUNG CYBORG WHO DOESN’T ABUSE ME!”

Flint: “I just don’t know why I have all these deep feelings for you...IN MAH BALLZ.”

Happily dysfunctional, they land on Cyborg Olive Garden, and Flint tells her he is gonna press the Noz button on his sperm so they can procreate! Wheeeeee!

Mira doubles down on that pesky idea of monogamy, then threatens suicide when Cyborg Bachelor says “well hung cyborgs with super sperm like me are required by law to stud out...but I’ll HATE DOING IT MIRA, honest! In my balls the most!”

A happy solution is found, and they play 50-shades-of-robot-kink on a new mission to rescue some hot female cyborgs.

*end book and 2 hrs of my life I will never get back*

My first CYBORG romance and I LIKE IT.

I never thought I'd like reading sci-fi, because usually I don't, but it helps when it's a romance and hot :D Nothing heavy on tech nor sophisticated language, I'm not advanced enough for that kind of sci-fi, thanks so much.

So, here we go...
I got a big, hot for a cyborg, Flint, and a damsel needed to be kidnapped, Mira.

I feel that she needed to be kidnapped because it felt like she'd been waiting for Flint to come and "rescue" her. I like my heroine strong and feisty, or at least she could hold up on her own. She's not all those yet she did some stupid things in the book they're a little bit annoying.

Thankfully, the cyborgs were fascinating and the writing is good so no complain. One more thing, the author definitely can write a panty-melting sex scenes :D

Let's move on to another of those Cyborgs.

Note:
Thanks to Sammy for introducing me to some different worlds. Yes I read too much of your reviews, I was intrigued ;)

I was not sure how I was going to like a Cyborg for the Hero. I am glad I gave this book a chance it was very good. I like the scene where Flint & Mira are seeing the doctor. Some find it not so nice, but I thought Laurann did a fine job with Flint being sincere blocking her from others viewng her. Granted later he does not block her from others viewing her but in the beginng he did. Got to think this is a fiction book so Flints character can be an A$$ with no emotions because that is only what these cyborgs know. I did enjoy how Mira was able to bring out the softer side in Flint. I hated/love one secondary character. Hated this character at the beginning but loved him towards the end. I am eager to read his story to see if he will find a love who will bring him to his knees. If you like your men Alpha with a good plot and loves scenes that are erotic give Burning Up Flint a chance.

5 star re-read!!

Loved this so much! A good thing that I forgot what happened, so it was like reading it for the first time ;)

COOL!
=============
4 and 1/2 stars rounding it up to 5 stars!!
(Originally read on 5 October 2015)

It was superb! More than superb, actually.

This book built a world, a culture/specie (or multiple cultures/species), got 2 people from 2 different cultures/species to get together in a unique way.. and weave their way through all their differences and be what they needed to be.. a unit (:P) you get to know what I mean when you read it ;)

Totally in LOVE!!!

DNF @ 40%

So this cyborg kidnaps this woman, forces her to have sex with him, treats her like property and then gets upset when she tries to escape? WTH?

I thought the whole point of the cyborgs escaping Earth was to have their own lives as sentient beings and not property...but no, this bunch just decides to turn it around on humans. In their planet, humans are the property.

Not cool.
