Fascinating look at how American prisoners of war fared in Chinese captivity during the Korean War. Marty, an infantry sergeant, is taken prisoner with his unit when they are overrun by Chinese troops, and is marched north to a prison camp - where he finds himself caught in the division of the prisoners into "Progressives" who spend their time in Marxist-Leninist indoctrination classes, and "Reactionaries" who refuse to cooperate with their captors. And his captors seem to know a lot about Marty.

This book comes from the Cold War era. It shows the mind games and mental stress that soldiers would endure during imprisonment in POW camps. Obviously, this book is a work of fiction that reads like a true story. It's a great novel that stays close to the truth. A perfect book for readers of war novels.

A page-turner I couldn't put down, and I highly recommend it if you can find it, since it's out of print.
