First published in 1968, 'The Tanks of Tammuz' is an account of tank warfare during the Arab-Israeli 6-Day War of June 1967, focussing mainly on the Tal division. An incredible piece of military history, yet as engrossing and dramatic as any novel, this was simply amazing. The level of technical detail was very good as well, so long as you do not mind some strange spellings. A small number of monochrome photos are included, mainly of the officers featured in the history, but also incluing a few of the tanks featured. Of course, since it is from the Israeli perspective, any pics of Arab tanks tend to be destroyed examples including a JS 3 and some T34/85 types.

Gritty, but with personal touches

This book really brings this historic episode to life. Teveth the author was there, and his writing illuminates both the characters involved and the action itself. There is just an occasional translation 'blip' but otherwise no indication this wasn't written in English. Highly recommended.

Very good read

This is an excellent account of the Six Day War, specifically from the tankers perspective. Very well and poignantly written with a good overview and, particularly of the war around the Gaza Strip and the northern Sinai to the Canal. What lions these Israei soldiers are!

Old but good account

Primary focus on the Tal Division in the Sinai theater.
Harsh account of the kinds of injuries received. Armour Corps rather than infantry.

A great read, but . . .

A great read but this book NEEDS MAPS!!!! I was constantly having to use Google maps to get some idea of where the action is taking place. Put in some useful maps and this book gets five stars. Without said maps it rates three stars.
