Truth is, I don't eat nor I like salmon. As food, as a concept, or as a fish that gets too much literary credit. I know... pretty offbeat for someone who declares eating sushi as her guilty pleasure. Well, anything but salmon.

Funnily, Ahn Do-hyun's little fable made me cry over a creature I wouldn't even eat. And that is either great writing or a personal failure. Either way, read it.

Salmon are born in rivers, but they grow up in the vast ocean. When the time comes to lay eggs, they return to the very river where they were born in, and there they spawn and end their lives. At first glance, The Salmon Who Dared to Leap Higher is a simple tale, but these slim novel swims far deeper than its premise suggests. Fairly enough, I ended up learning the most about salmon and perhaps, finding myself loving salmon a bit more after this.

What makes the book especially memorable is its placid, poetic simplicity. There are no dramatic twists or human characters—only the river, the salmon, and the instinctive pull toward home. Yet within that simplicity, the story carries emotional warmth and philosophical depth.

The repeated line,

“Salmon: the very word is heady with the scent of the rushing river"

appearing at both the beginning and the end, beautifully reinforces the cyclical nature of life: beginnings and endings are not separate, but deeply connected. It shows that death is not destruction, but a process of cycle, an essential part that makes life more brilliant.

I also tend to dig into a book’s background whenever I know my reading experience may be limited as a non-native reader. Published in South Korea in 1996, amid growing environmental awareness and reckoning with rapid industrialization, this novel resonates as both an ecological and spiritual meditation. Ahn Do-hyun, whose writing often blends personal reflection with social themes, uses the silver salmon’s journey to explore the value of choosing a difficult but meaningful path.

Knowing more about the cultural and historical context; understanding when and why it was written helped me appreciate it more. Especially how its themes of coexistence, perseverance, and homecoming still feel heartfelt and universal even through translation.

"You mean that the stars shine because they have the darkness as their background?"

I am not sure what were people expectation when they picked this, but this book ended up being just what I thought it is. It is a short but deeply resonant book. When a child reads it, it comes as an adventure story, and when an adult reads it, it comes as a philosophical metaphor that illuminates life.

By the final page, I found myself thinking about the idea that life is a continuous journey that cannot truly be completed alone. Like salmon returning upstream, people move forward through persistence, companionship, and quiet courage. This book is not really a plot-driven novel, but a reflective one, yet perfect for when you need to regain strength without growing tired of the road.

All in all, I truly recommended for anyone swimming against their own current. You might just find yourself cheering for a fish. And maybe learning something about yourself along the way.

روایتِ حکایت‌گونه‌ی سفر یک ماهی سالمون نقره‌ای از دریا به بالادست رودخانه‌ای خروشان جهت تخم‌گذاری. اتفاق مهمی که طی این سفر برای ماهی سالمون نقره‌ای رخ می‌دهد و داستان را به جلو پیش می‌برد، آشنایی با ماهی دیگری به نام سالمون شفاف‌چشم است و عشقی که در پی آن می‌آید. عشق، فداکاری، امید، چیستی زندگی و جایگاه مرگ مفاهیمی هستند که ماهی سالمون در این داستان به‌ظاهر ساده بطور مستقیم و غیر مستقیم درگیر آن‌هاست و در طول سفر و طی تجربه‌های گوناگون به معنای آن‌ها پی‌برد

گوسفند سیاه گله

نخستین چیزی که در داستان جلب توجه می‌کند، ظاهر متفاوت سالمون است که بر خلاف دیگر هم‌نوعانش رنگی نقره‌ای دارد. او به سبب رنگ متفاوت از سوی دیگر اعضای قبیله برچسب‌گذاری شده و سرزنش می‌شود. این موضوع در کنار فکر‌های عجیب و غریبش انزوای هرچه بیشتر او را در پی دارد. سالمون نقره‌ای بارها تصمیم به ترک گله می‌گیرد، اما از عملی کردن تصمیم خود بازمی‌ماند. من در ابتدای داستان تصور کردم قرار است با سرنوشت یک ماهی عصیانگر روبرو شوم که قرار است بر خلاف طبعیت خود زندگی کند، اما از میانه داستان متوجه شدم که برخلاف تصور اولیه، سالمون نقره‌ای قرار است درست مانند یک سالمون باشد و تمام داستان در خدمت همین موضوع است: سالمون بودن

سفر به مثابه‌ی خودشناسی

استفاده از ایده‌ی سفر به عنوان راهی برای رسیدن به خودشناسی امری رایج است، به عنوان مثال کوئلیو در کتاب کیمیا‌گر و الف از این موضوع بهره می‌برد. در این کتاب هم ماهی سالمون در طول سفر پر پیچ و خم خود از آب‌های آزاد به وردخانه محل تولد، تجربه‌های گوناگونی را پشت سر می‌گذارد و هر تجربه، افقی جدید را پیش روی او می‌گستراند. بهطوری که در پایان سفر، او دیگر آن ماهی سالمون نقره‌ای ابتدای داستان نیست. نخستین تجربه، از دست دادن خواهرش در حمله‌ی عقابی است که او را به ورطه‌ی تنهایی مطلق می‌کشاند. با مرگ ماهیِ خواهر، آخرین ارتباط میان سالمون نقره‌ای و گله از بین می‌برد و پاز این پس، سالمون نقره‌ای دچار خلاء عمیقی می‌شود که در ترکیب با حس طردشدگی از گله، گم‌گشتگی و تزلزل هویتی او را در پی دارد. حالا گله برای او چیزی بیش‌تر از ظلمتی عظیم نیست. نتیجه‌ی نهایی این تجربه، ایجاد بحران معنا برای سالمون نقره‌ای است:

تجربه‌ی دوم، آشنایی با سالمون شفاف‌چشم و ایجاد رابطه‌ی عاشقانه میان آن‌هاست. این تجربه سبب تحول بزرگی در سالمون نقره‌ای می‌شود. از این پس او دنیا را به شیوه‌ای متفاوت می‌بیند، به هر چیزی که در آب و آسمان می‌نگرد نشانی از سالمون شفاف‌چشم می‌یابد. آن نقاط چشمک‌زن نورانی، راه خاص سالمون شفاف‌چشم است برای نشانه‌ای به او راهی برای صحبت کردن با او از طریق قلبش، تا بگوید من هنوز اینجا هستم و حالم خوب است. در همین نقطه است که سالمون نقره‌ای رایحه‌ای جدید در آب حس می‌کند: رایحه‌ای از خاطره‌ای محو از خوشی‌ای که زمانی بسیار دور او را در خود گرفته بود، بوی خانه. سالمون نقره‌ای حالا کسی را پیدا کرده تا با چشم قلب به یکدیگر بنگرند: تو نور دیدی چون مرا با چشم درون خود نگریستی. تمام دنیا به طرزی زیبا جلوه می‌کند، هنگامی که به آن از طریق قلبت نگاه می‌کنی. نگریستن با چشمان قلب سبب می‌شود تا او هرچیزی را به شیوه‌ای متفاوت با قبل ادراک کند. حالا حتی خرده سنک‌های بسیار ریز هم سرشار از معنایی بزرگ شده بودند

حالا نقره‌ای آشکار در پی معنای زندگی است : دلیل زنده بودن ماهی سالمون چیه؟ تخم‌گذاری؟ تنها دلیل این‌همه سختی کشیدن و رویارو شدن با خطرات همینه؟ فقط تخم‌گذاری؟ زندگی کردن به منظور تخم‌گذاری با زندگی کردن به منظور خوردن چه فرقی داره؟ در این صورت زندگی ما چه معنایی می‌تونه داشته باشه؟ از آنجا که تخم‌گذاری ماهی سالمون با مرگ او همراست، سالمون نقره‌ای نتوانسته معنایی در این مرگ بیابد و در نتیجه زندگی سالمون‌وار، زیستن تنها برای تخم‌گذاری را چیزی عبث می‌داند. نویسنده برای پاسخ به این معضل ماهی نقره‌ای، اندک اندک مفهوم مرگ به مثابه‌ی بلوغ را پیش می‌کشد. نخستین مواجهه‌ی سالمون با مرگ در ریختن برگ‌های زرد به درون رودخانه رخ می‌دهد

سالمون نقره‌ای: از شاخه افتادن و رفتن باید غم‌انگیز باشد، درست است؟
برگ: نه، غم‌انگیز نیست. این کار لازم است؛ ما باید برویم تا سال بعد برگ‌های جدید بتوانند از درخت بیاویزند

دومین مواجهه سالمون نقره‌ای با مرگ، در حرکت رود به سوی پایین‌دست و محو شدن در دریا اتفاق می‌افتد. او از رود می‌پرسد که چرا باید به بالای رودخانه شنا کنیم؟ پاسخ رودخانه تامل برانگیز است: شنا به سمت بالای رودخانه معنی‌اش جستجو برای چیزی است که بی‌درنگ قابل دیدن نیست. مانند یک رویا یا یک آرزو است. وظیفه‌ای ناممکن اما زیبا. اما رود چرا به شما پایین حرکت می‌کند؟ زندگی رودخانه در این حرکت به سوی پایین و مرگ در دریا چگونه معنا می‌شود؟

سالمون نقره‌ای: زندگیِ بدون معنا! آیا براستی چنین چیزی ممکن است؟
رودخانه: به زعم تو، قطعا نه.
سالمون نقره‌ای: پس دلیل زندگی تو چیست؟
رودخانه: دلیل زندگی من این است که وجود دارم. همین حالا، درست در همین لحظه، در بطن خودِ زندگی
سالمون نقره‌ای: آیا وجود داشتن دلیلی برای زندگی کردن است؟
رودخانه: وجود داشتن به معنای نوعی پشتیبان بودن است، پشتیبان برای چیزهایی که خود من نیستم.
سالمون نقره‌ای: پشتیبان یعنی چه؟
رودخانه: پیرامونی که من همین‌جا و همین لحظه در اطراف تو می‌سازم؛ این حضور که من به وجود می‌آورمش پشتیبان توست

نگاه نویسنده در اینجا به برداشت سقراطی از مفهوم زیبایی و نیکی و یا بطور کل، فضیلت نزدیک می‌شود. سقراط بر این باور بود که زیبایی و نیکی هرچیز در درست انجام دادن وظیفه‌ای‌ست که بر او محول شده‌ است. به‌عنوان مثال زیبایی یک چاقو نه بخاطر طلا و جواهرنشان بودنِ آن، بلکه از تیز بودن آن ناشی می‌شود و این در مورد همه چیز، از جمله سالمون هم صدق می‌کند. زندگی سالمون زمانی نیک و زیباست که او دقیقا مانند یک سالمون زندگی کند. نویسنده در دیالوگی میان سنگی که در کف رودخانه قرار گرفته و سالمون نقره‌ای این موضوع را چنین مطرح می‌کند

سالمون نقره‌ای: تو کیستی؟
سنگ رودخانه: من سنگ جای پا هستم
سالمون نقره‌ای: اینجا چه‌کار می‌کنی؟
سنگ رودخانه: وظیفه من کمک به مردم برای عبور از رودخانه است
سالمون نقره‌ای: دردت نمی‌گیرد؟
سنگ رودخانه: من خوبم
سالمون نقره‌ای: حتی با وجود اینکه انسان‌ها تو را با پاهایشان لگدکوب می‌کنند و با نوک عصایشان به تو ضربه می‌زنند؟
سنگ رودخانه: اگر آن‌ها مرا لگدکوب نمی‌کردند من دلیلی برای حیات نداشتم

اما پیش‌تر این پرسش مطرح شد که آیا تمام رسالت سالمون در تخم‌گذاری و تولید مثل او خلاصه می‌شود؟ و اگر چنین است چه معنای والایی برای زندگی او می‌توان در نظر گرفت؟ تخم‌گذاری در پی بلوغ ایجاد می‌شود و مرگ در پی تخمگذاری، سالمون نقره‌ای به هر کدام از این‌ها به صورت امری منفک و مستقل نگاه می‌کند. اما شاید مرگ و زندگی آنقدر به هم گره خورده که نباید آن‌ها را از یکدیگر تفکیک کرد، شاید نباید مرگ را چیزی بیرونِ زندگی - اتفاقی که از خارج بر موجود زنده حادث می‌شود - درنظر گرفت. در این صورت است که مرگ سالمون معنا پیدا می‌کند: امری ضروری برای حیات یافتن نسل بعدی سالمون‌ها. مرگ به معنای پایان زندگی سالمون نیست. بعد از مرگ حیات او در تخم‌هایی که به بار نشسته ادامه پیدا می‌کند، در شیوه‌ی زیست سالمون بودن. این بخش داستان، تداعی کننده‌ی عامل حرکت دوری و ارتباط آن با حیات در اندیشه‌ی یونان باستان است. یونانیان باستان بر این باور بودند که هرچیز تا زمانی که حرکت دوری داشته باشد، زنده و پاینده است (مانند فصول سال، حرکت زمین به دور خورشید و ...). آلکمایون سخن جالبی در باب حیات و مرگ دارد. او می‌گوید: دلیل مرگ انسان‌ها این است که آن‌ها نمی‌توانند آغاز را به انجام (پایان) خود پیوند دهند. بعدها فیلون اسکن��رانی این عقیده‌ی یونانیان را بسط می‌دهد و می‌گوید خدا در طبیعت آغاز را به انجام می‌آورد (متصل می‌کند) و بدین شیوه سبب می‌شود که پس از انجام، دوباره آغاز شکل گیرد. در گیاهِ رو به مرگ، انجام و آغاز در بذر دادن گیاه تجلی پیدا می‌کند. در زندگی بر روی دایره، آغاز و انجام بر یکدیگر منطبق هستند و از این رو حیات تداوم می‌یابد. از همین روست که سالمون نقره‌ای می‌گوید: اگرچه ما سالمون‌ها فرزندانمان را نمی‌پرورانیم، اما مرگ ما متضمن زندگی آن‌هاست. تمام انرژی دوباره به طبعیت باز می‌گردد

سالمون در جستجوی معنا

آیا سالمون در نهایت معنای زندگی را می‌یابد؟
سالمون نقره‌ای در تمام طول زندگی شیفته‌ی تجربه‌های جدید بود. در شب به آسمان پر ستاره خیره می‌شد و در روز به رنگین‌کمان‌ها. او در جستجوی معنایی متعالی برای زندگی خود بود و شاید در پس تمام این تلاش‌ها او جاودانگی را جستجو می‌کرد. من از عنوان یکی از فصل‌های کتاب (جاری در زمان همچون رود) و آنجا که سالمون با انسان‌های عکاسی روبرو می‌شود که سوژه را در بطن زمان متوقف می‌کنند چنین نتیجه گرفتم. سالمون در نهایت این جاودانگی را در تخم‌گذاری و مرگ برای بقای نسل خود پیدا کرد

تمام آنچه متوجه شده‌ام این است که معنای زندگی، رنگین‌کمانی در دوردست نیست. امید نیز می‌تواند چیزی نزدیک و دست‌یافتنی باشد، هرچند من امید خاصی را پیدا نکردم. من امید را نیافتم، اما این چیزی نیست که باعث تاسف باشد. در مقایسه با سالمون‌های دیگر می‌توانم بگویم که من شاد بوده‌ام. حتی شاید امید زنده باشد، یک جایی در این دنیا

در پایان

من کتاب را با هدف استفاده در حلقه‌های کندوکاو فبک مطالعه کردم و قطعات خوبی هم برای این کار از کتاب جدا کردم. مثلا مفهوم فداکاری، آنجا که سالمون شفاف‌چشم خود را طعمه‌ی چنگال خرس می‌کند. کتاب از این نظر بسیار غنی‌ست، اما مشکل اینجاست که بسیاری از مفاهیم نیمه‌کاره رها شده و یا به‌طور مناسبی پرداخت نشده‌اند. مشکل دیگر کتاب این است که نویسنده بیشتر به‌صورت شهودی عمل کرده و روایت در بسیاری از قسمت‌ها شیوه‌ای شاعرانه به خود می‌گیرد. در این که داستان از لحاظ احساسی تاثیرگذار است شکی نیست، ولی چگونه می‌توان این حکایت تمثیلی را به زندگی انسان‌ها تعمیم داد؟ چگونه می‌توان گفت چیزی به‌عنوان بقای نسل که آرمانی جمعی و مربوط به نوع انسان است، برای فرد انسانی هم معنادار است؟

3.5: I knew nothing about this going in. I liked the title. And I'd just finished The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly, and decided I was in the mood to be emotionally devastated by animals this weekend.

I assumed it might be a retelling of the Japanese koi fable, but from a salmon’s perspective. In a way, it kind of is like that koi fable with the same mythic river energy and “life is suffering and also swimming” undertone, but with a slightly stranger philosophical temperature.

Some of the illustrations are gorgeous. The image of Silver Salmon poking his head above the ocean to gaze at the moon and stars is especially beautiful. This tiny moment of cosmic awareness rendered through a fish.

There are some issues with the translation. It can be a bit clunky and I got the feeling that some of the meaning was lost. Sometimes tenses shift. It’s not unreadable, but you occasionally feel the seams.

These salmon get philosophical. They're strangely good at maths. Where did they learn this? They also have some insane knowledge on humans. They know when humans landed on the moon. They know our cities. They know cameras exist. They know about wars. They know all about crime. There’s this weirdly expansive understanding of human civilisation that sometimes feels like it’s leaking in from a completely different informational universe which creates this surreal effect where fish are simultaneously mythic creatures and semi-informed commentators on geopolitics, which is certainly a choice.

Everything speaks in this book. The leaves, the trees, the river, the eagles. Everyone's constantly narrating reality. Sometimes it works smoothly and feels profound while other times it feels heavy-handed.

The main character Silver Salmon is equal parts inspiring and frustrating. He’s almost too naïve. Other salmon have to repeatedly explain basic salmon biology and history to him, like he’s never once considered the concept of being a salmon before. I get that this is partly to externalise exposition for the reader, but it could have been handled with a bit more grace.

I also didn’t really like the addition of humans. Oh, children can talk to fish, by the way. It all felt unnecessary. The fish world already had enough emotional and symbolic weight without humans stepping in to complicate things further.

It’s a cute book overall, but tonally, it sits in a strange in-between space. Not quite for children, because the themes are too abstract and heavy. Not quite for adults, because the ideas are presented a bit too directly and plainly. It ends up hovering in this odd liminal space.

Still, I enjoyed it. Even if I'm perturbed by the salmon knowing so much about crime statistics. And maths. Who. Is. Teaching. Them?

داستان درباره یه دسته ماهی سالمونه و از زبون یکی از ماهی های سالمونه که از بقیه کنجکاوتره و برای خودش یه پا فیلسوف ماهیه😅سالمون نقره ای دنبال معنای زندگیشه و داستان پر از تمثیل درباره زندگی و عشق و امید و حتی مرگه و جملات قشنگی هم
داشت.
یه نگاه خوبی داشت که خیلی خوشم اومد هم از ایده ش هم از روایتش هم از مقدارش که واقعا به اندازه بود

i think it’s very clear when a book has simply been lost in translation, or if there are nuances that just can’t be translated as well - which is the case for this book (in my opinion)

that doesn’t take away from how beautiful and lyrical it was, but it felt slightly empty sometimes which i can only assume is where the nuance was lost

the concept was enjoyable, though, and understanding the salmon to be a metaphor for the circle of life etc was so lovely - but i just didn’t love it

sometimes you read a book without knowing anything about it and what a wonderful surprise it turns out to be! other times, it's just a big disappointment.

I had no idea this would be literally about salmon... it's supposedly a fable but all the relatable aspects of those types of stories get lost because well, the characters are fish. this reads as so silly because they're fish but at the same time, they talk about very human things like marriage and science and what beautiful cities are there in the world. am I getting too old and cynical to read fables? maybe.

it also doesn't help that the writing is very dry (I'm not even trying to make a joke here). I suspect a lot is lost in translation but for a book about the meaning of life and purpose, this book felt utterly empty to me.

This was a very charming little fable about growing up and the purpose of life. All explored through the life of Silver Salmon.

It was a gentle read and enjoyable. The illustrations were lovely.

There just wasn't enough here to get me invested. But it's a perfectly lovely little tale and I'm glad I picked it up.

A beautiful love story about the meaning of life and the life cycle salmon, and their complex relationship with humans. Interweaved with beautiful illustrations.

I suspect something was lost in translation as the language was not immersive at all. The descriptions were very simplistic. It certainly didn't feel like the work of a multi-million copy bestselling, award winning poet on a sentence by sentence level, but perhaps the story did as a whole.

نمیدونم بشه به صورت علمی این تعبیر رو کرد یا نه اما تصور میکنم اگر تا حدودی به ادبیات تمثیلی علاقه دارید ازین کتاب خوشتون میاد!این کتاب صرفا داستان یک ماهی سالمون و بقیه گله اش نیست،یه چیزی مثل جاناتان مرغ‌دریایی یا مقدار خیلی کمی هم شازده کوچولو و رز گمشده...
این ها رو گفتم که بگم کاراکتر های این کتاب فراتر از چیزی هستن که میخونیم،که یه وقت فک نکنید که چون کتاب از زبون سالمون ها روایت میشه بچگونه اس!
به نظرم ازون دسته کتاباس که با هرگروه سنی و با هر سطح مطالعه ای برداشت آزاد و منحصر به خودمون رو ازش خواهیم داشت.
پر از‌جملات کوتاه و تامل برانگیزی که تا مدتها همراهمون میمونه و رهامون نمیکنه.
به نظرم برای خوندن این کتاب باید ذهن آزادی داشته باشید پس گول ظاهر و حجم کمش‌رو نخورید و سعی کنید مزه مزه اش کنید و همراه با سالمون ها توی رودخونه ی سبز شنا کنید...

A quick and easy read about two salmon who risk their lives going upstream in order to lay their eggs. There wasn’t exactly much going on in terms of storyline, but I think that was purely the authors intention, in order to keep it simple but effective. It portrayed the fact that adversity is not something to be fearful of, but is something that you should embrace and learn from.

The life of Salmon is predictable but Silver Salmon is different. He wants to challenge himself into taking a different route rather than following the line that he's supposed to follow.

Silver Salmon takes you to a journey where he wants to find answers for his questions. It usually involves the meaning of life and death, growing up, love, nature and the relationship between nature and humans.

"There are countless humans who do cruel things simply in order to show that they can,' he said. 'Why is the earth a den of thieves? Why are murders committed there every day? Humans are more cruel than we salmon can imagine. How could we ever trust those who invented war?"

"There's an old saying: if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. So even if we fail the first time, we have to take up the challenge a second time, a third time, even a fourth time"

"The teacher seems to think that lessons are the be-all and end-all of life. Perhaps, even while watching the fallen leaves floating on the river's surface, he's thinking about morals that could be drawn from it. If he were to come across a flower he hadn't seen before, rather than marvelling at its beauty, he would bury his head in an illustrated guide to plants, wanting to know only whether there was some partical benefit to be had from flower... He doesn't understand that flowers and stars are beautiful in themselves."

Câu chuyện về việc đi tìm mục đích sống của chú cá hồi Ánh Bạc làm mình nhớ tới câu chuyện của chú ốc sên Dũng Khí trong Chuyện con ốc sên muốn biết tại sao nó chậm chạp.

Ánh Bạc không thỏa mãn với việc mục tiêu lớn lao của một con cá hồi là đẻ trứng rồi sau đó chết đi. Chú nghĩ rằng, ắt hẳn phải có lý do gì khác để loài cá hồi tồn tại trên đời này, vượt qua bao khó khăn, nguy hiểm để ngược lên thượng nguồn của dòng Sông Xanh chứ. Và đến cuối cùng, chú cá hồi “lạc loài” ấy đã nhận ra được vẻ đẹp thực sự trong câu chuyện “đẻ trứng”. Đây cũng chính là điểm kết thúc của cuộc đời cá hồi. Cái chết ấy không đau buồn mà lại tuyệt đẹp, bởi nó sẽ khởi đầu cho một tương lai mới, với những đàn cá hồi con bé xíu bơi theo dòng sông ra biển, để khi lớn lên, chúng lại bơi ngược về nơi chốn mình sinh ra.

Cuốn sách thật sự rất cảm động đấy :)) Tuy không biết chúng có liên quan không, nhưng hôm nào đấy mình sẽ đi hốt thêm cuốn Cá thu về đọc.

By poetically writing of the arduous journey of a single silver salmon on the search for the meaning of its life, the books author, Ahn Do-hyun has managed to shed a little bit of enlightenment onto the beauties, horrors & mysterious of life. A really delightful thought provoking read that captures your heart & mind and leaves you with not only a greater appreciation for salmon but also of life.

Buku ini menceritakan ttg perjalanan hidup seekor salmon bersisik perak, unik dan banyak pertanyaan selama hidupnya. Sejujurnya this book literature is not my type. Banyak filosofinya. Gak bakalan memorable dlm ingatanku. Bagusnya novel ini jenis novella. Singkat aja.

Lâu rồi mới đọc một cuốn sách truyện viết về động vật mà mình tâm đắc. Cuốn sách còn mỏng nhẹ, đọc một buổi sáng là xong. :)
Cuốn sách là hành trình trở về sông thượng nguồn quê hương của đàn cá hồi và đặc biệt là hành trình đi tìm lý tưởng sống có ý nghĩa của Ánh Bạc, một chú cá hồi có tâm hồn sâu sắc. Ánh Bạc luôn suy nghĩ và để cao vẻ đẹp tâm hồn, luôn luôn suy nghĩ sâu sắc về cái đẹp, luôn đi tìm mục đích tồn tại, lý tưởng sống. Ánh Bạc nghĩ sâu xa hơn chứ không cho rằng mục đích cá hồi bất chấp hiểm nguy trở về sông thượng nguồn chỉ để đẻ trứng. Nó luôn suy nghĩ sâu sắc về việc con đường đi của cá hồi, về việc vượt thác để trở về thượng nguồn hay đi con đường đi dễ dàng.
Đọc cuốn sách này làm mình nhớ tới câu chuyện con mèo dạy chú hải âu bay. Cả hai đều là những câu chuyện tiểu thuyết ngụ ngôn, mượn chuyện động vật để nói về những giá trị trong cuộc sống của con người. Cách thể hiện của cả hai câu chuyện đều không hề giáo điều hay khuôn sáo mà vô cùng nh�� nhàng và cảm xúc.

I really liked this book! Written so beautifully and poetically, the thought-provoking themes of this story managed to leave me light-hearted yet moved by Silver Salmon’s tale.

It reminded me a little of The Little Prince. It’s this kind of book that seems written for children, but turns out to be more important and intelligent than you’d think.

The only thing I didn’t like as much, were the parts where Silver Salmon interacted with the humans. Also, the part in which the difference between fishnet-humans and camera-humans is explained, was unnecessary in my opinion. It didn’t need to be adressed, you know. The salmon gave me such a feeling that they were humane themself, that the real humans didn’t do much for the story, for me.

Other than that, I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it!
