This collaboration between Barry Louis Polisar and illustrator David Clark is a long awaited sequel to Barry’s earlier collections of poems, Peculiar Zoo and Insect Soup. From the echidna with its two-foot-long tongue and the flying paradise snake of Borneo, to common earthworms and houseflies, this collection even includes, the most curious of all creatures, man.
I thought this was OK. Some of the poems had good rhythym and some worked well in rhyming. A couple seemed jerky to me. I'm not sure which age group it is intended for, as some words would be too high for for K-2. Why it's a nominee? I really don't know.
Note: I am not the best person to review for this, as I'm not the biggest fan of children's poetry. Though I have my poetry episodes, I am no poet, and I DO know it! I'm also not the best to critique poems. So take my review with that in mind.
This is a fun book introducing a lot of interesting animals like flying snakes, echinas, quokkas, and even lemmings. Each animal comes with a fun poem about it and fun illustrations. There's even a short description of more information at the end of the book. My son enjoyed the poetry and the pictures.
