Hot on the heels of a nasty break-up, Natalie’s truck dies and strands her deep in Louisiana’s sweltering backwoods. A glow beyond the trees and a haunting melody lead her to what she hopes is salvation.
The Shivaree is more than a bar. It’s a mysterious oasis where people go to escape into a cold drink and lose themselves against a warm body on the dance floor. Gabriel is its resident musician, gifted with unnerving talent and intoxicating sexual charisma. The only thing standing between Natalie and the perfect rebound is Gabriel’s possessive and domineering lover, and Natalie’s not afraid of a bully. Certainly not one built like Shane Broussard. She’s ready to discover the perfect remedy for heartache—two hot male bodies, one long, sultry, southern night.

5 SCRUMPTIOUS STARS!! Two’s company and three’s…scorching hot!! A sandwich is a sandwich, but MANWICH is a meal!! Lip smackin’ good!
At the conclusion of Backwoods Gabriel expressed to Shane his desire to be with a woman. Shane agrees, as long he approves of her and he gets to watch, but he little does he know he will become very involved. Natalie comes to Shivaree looking for help when her truck breaks down. She’s immediately drawn to Gabriel while he singing on stage, their eyes meet and she falls under his spell. The man is intoxicating, sensual, deeeelicous!! On Gabriel’s urging Shane agrees to look at Natalie’s truck and offers her a place to stay and what she gets is an eyeful…the men in the throes of ecstasy. **spritz, spritz, spritz….whirrrrrr* Okay I’m better. Then it’s her turn. You will get no more out of me, but what happens will have you squirming in your seat.
I loved how Natalie was the voice of reason and how she connected with Shane. She is the only person who knows of their relationship and has seen them in action. Shane has such a harsh exterior, but he is all goodness inside. He’s torn about his need for Gabriel and indirectly punishes him, because he’s angry with himself. This is the only man he’s ever had sex with, yet Natalie stirs something in him that he thought was lost. Gabriel oozes sexuality! He’s like a fine piece of chocolate, the kind that melts in your mouth, where you need your tongue to wipe your lips and when it’s gone, you HAVE to have more.
“How’s your truck?” Gabriel asked. Such simple, innocuous words…yet they may as well have been whispered against her pussy, for the shiver that traced her spine.”
Wow, Cara McKenna has a way with words; boy oh boy did she stir things up in me. That’s right the dustbowl became a fully fledged tornado!! I’m shameless!! On to Getaway, I just love to torture myself!
** If you have not read Backwoods it is NECESSARY to read that first, in order to understand the delicate and complex relationship between Gabriel and Shane. You will appreciate this book so much more. **
I posted these pics on my review of Backwoods, but I’m doing it again, because I think they fit the characters perfectly and I like looking at them…so there!! Annoying, aren't I?!
combinations that will fuckin stir your imagination and set off the fucking magic.
I really jumped into this after i ve devoured Blackwoods, a prequel to this story...
We already know about the carnal magic between Shane and Gabriel..but here, Gabriel brought another person into the mix.
Natalie.
After her truck died on her in the middle of nowhere she walk straight into the bar.
Shane's bar. Gabriel's magical music.
His sways of hips made her storm into the desires she could not fight against. And in the end she didnt want to...
They shared three nights of passion, heat, infatuation of carnal bliss...but that s all she can take from the encounter.
There s another world, another universe these 2 men share with each other...even if they wont admit it to themselves...
or at least one of them has an inner struggle within himself considering the unknown feelings, unprepared for consequences, hard on accepting the reality of what is that he actually WANTS, NEEDS, belongs with and to. there s no actual space for anyone else...
Absolutly fantastically described sex scenes...sensuality mixed with the pulsation and the beat of flesh to flesh inside the passion twist...makes one helluva way to enter another level of human physical and emotional sphere where not all questions are answered but you still thrive to obtain.
Just what Shane and Gabriel need in their already fucked up relationship. A third.
When Natalie breaks down just outside of Shane’s bar she never imagined stopping in for a beer and finding a mechanic would turn into three days of sexual heat and the best rebound fuck a girl could ask for.
Instantly Natalie is memorized by Gabriel and even with Shane’s possessiveness and warnings, she can’t seem to say no. But Shane made a deal with Gabriel, he could have other women, he just need to ask for it.
This was hot, no doubt, but it was also a little painful to read. Given just how much of an asshole Shane can be, there was this vulnerability about him and having to experience this with Natalie tossed into the mix was hard to stomach at times. Typically a m/m romance that tosses a woman into the mix does not leave me feeling like a jilted lover, but there was something about the way Gabriel behaved that left me wanting to slap the fuck out of him. The things he said to Natalie in the bathroom about picturing her while... well fuck you very much. Hate was the only thing I was thinking for a good solid ten minutes.
But what this installment did for me was endear me to Shane completely. Sure he had his own issues that prevented him from really having what he wanted, but I just couldn’t lay too much of the blame at his feet.
Although I did get twitchy with jealousy, this was a hot as fuck read. I loved getting a chance to see Shane and Gabriel together through Natalie’s eyes – it added a dimension to the relationship that was not present before. POV shifts serve a purpose in stories and Ms. McKenna proves that with the way she chose to give that scene from Natalie’s perspective.
Even though I might not be as in love with Gabriel as I wanted to be, I am still in utter lust with this story and can’t wait to see what the future holds for these two men.
A nasty break up with your three-year boyfriend could lead to different things. But I’m quite sure Natalie never saw this one coming. She wanted a rebound and she got it in form not one but two super-hot-so-sexy-that-i-want-to-lick-them men.
Heading home, Natalie founds herself in a difficult situation. Her truck broke down and she couldn’t do anything. Then she meets Gabriel who offers to help her, and his lover Shane, and all the fun begins.
Though being a quickie this story has its deep profound meaning. Can a lover be caught? Can he stay honest?
Gabriel is a handsome sexy man who attracts a lot of attention. He makes people wish things. Like a drug he hooks them and the withdrawal is impossible to bear. He is like wind, enjoyable at times but impossible to catch.
Shane is in refusal. He couldn’t resist Gabriel. He is afraid and delighted of the emotions he feels. He doesn’t want Gabriel to drift in and out but couldn’t help it.
Natalie is just a girl who was caught in Gabriel’s webs. She is like a moth flying into fire. She knows it will end in nothing but she’s drawn to them
All in all I liked this book. It was the perfect quickie with a good plot and very sexy scenes. This book is absolutely one of my most favorite not-to-be-read-in-public books.
Quick review as I need to get straight onto the next one. Shane and Gabriel are as hot as ever in this one.I WAS NOT HAPPY about Natalie getting inbetween my men,in more ways than one!!And Gabriel's actions annoyed me at times.
Still, though,a great series.I seriously can't get enough of these 2 men!!!!
Months have passed since the ending of Backwood, but Shane and Gabriel are still together, exploring this new unlabelled-relationship. Shane, seems to have come to terms with his fling with Gabriel, but isn't ready for the world outside of the two of them to know.
Gabriel seems to be searching for something. He tells Shane that he needs more, and that more includes sexual relations with a woman. The only stipulation is that Gabriel has to have Shane's permission before hand.
Gabriel seems to want to push Shane's buttons and does just that when Shane sees him with a woman.
Natalie is passing through town when her truck breaks down; she sees Gabriel performing at Shivaree, and like everyone else, she's explicitly drawn to him.
So let the flirting begin. Now, let me just say that I love a M/F/M story BUT ..... the main relationship here is between Shane and Gabriel. That's it, AND, as far as I'm concerned, NO ONE else is invited (unless it's me)!!!!!!
She ends up camping out on Shane's couch and during the night, she seeks a peek at Shane and Gabriel "together"; now I can just imagine what she saw ..... all I can say is that it would`ve been pretty fucking HOT!!!
Now this is where we enter the M/F portion of the story .................. yeah, don't want to comment on it. I'm not even a character in the story and I was JEALOUS, and jealous for Shane.
The next morning, Shane helps Natalie out with getting her car fixed and my guess is that he wants her G-O-N-E, and really, I don't blame him ;D
That evening, during Gabriel's performance, her and Shane hang out, chat, eat and drink while enjoying the show.
Cue, additional M/F scene. I think what I didn't mind about this one was Natalie asks Shane to describe in detail his first time with Gabriel; it's quite hot and my mind is going places.
AND, those are my thoughts.
I have a sinking feeling about the final book, Getaway, but I`m sucking it up and going in.

Shivaree is book 2 of this series and take place right where Backwood's leaves off.
In this book Natalie joins Shane and Gabriel. Natalie's truck broke down so she walks into the Shivaree and is instantly attracted to Gabriel. Shane is so jealous but he still wants to help her with her truck and reluctantly let's her stay at his place for the night warning her that Gabriel is his and to leave him alone. The men go into their room and have HOT HARD SEX while she's spying through the door slats ( Dam I'd have LOVED to see that too, hahahaha ). The next morning Shane takes off and when he returns Gabriel and Natalie are going at it. He decides to join in and OH - MY - MY - MY, this book just keeps getting HOTTER.
Moving along because I don't want to explain the whole story which YEP has a few more extremely HOT scenes, Natalie say's her goodbye's and move's on to her destination.
This is where Book 3 take's place but 6 month's later.
The beginning of Shivaree really got me going!!!!!!!!! I could see the scene so clearly in my head – Natalie stranded in the Louisiana backwoods and suddenly hearing the music and seeing the lights through the trees. And holding my breath knowing that something will happen and affect her life as she draws closer to the mysterious place named Shivaree.
I loved Backwoods, the first book in this series and I never thought I would continue being enthralled by the characters, Gabriel and Shane. But was I???.
I found it impossible to put down this book. This continues to be the most sensual and deeply emotional story, Love, obsession, lust, erotic sex with intense characters that just blew me away.
Shane just got into my heart. He’s this strong male who feels powerless when it comes for the intense feelings he has for Gabriel. He’s tormented as he watches Gabriel going with other people and there’s so much pain as he tries to deal with being attracted to a man for the first time in his life. Going as far as agreeing to share Natalie, who finds herself powerful attracted to both men, with Gabriel. He will do anything to have Gabriel in his life and if this is what makes it work, so be it.
I’m still unsure about Gabriel. There’s something very dark inside him which makes him so totally disconnected with anyone except sexually. Something so deep torments him too. I can understand the attraction of Gabriel, he’s just such a beautiful and mysterious and damn sexy man. But I felt as if he was using Natalie in order to get Shane to admit his feelings and submit to his desires and wants.
The connection between the three is emotional and explosive filled with the most sensual and erotic sex scenes. Jealousy, possessiveness, submission, control - so much emotional darkness at times that I wondered how the three would survive these feelings.
Strong characters, great dialogue and fantastic story line that just makes this series such an incredible and compelling read.
I did feel a bit sad at the end of the story but could there be any other way for it to be??
I love this author’s writing and can’t wait to read the next book, Gateway.
I Loved Gabriel and shane and their chemistry and freaking HOT interaction as usual........
However i like me some threesome from time to time here in this case i didn't like it much......maybe because i felt she was intruding and didn't feel her chemistry with them.....what they have is so strong and focused on each other to the point that it didn't allow anything (anyone) in between!
Short. Sweet. Sexy. Cara McKenna knows how to write smut, with heart. Very glad there are more books in this story though. I want to know more about these characters, especially Shane. Terrific, quick read!♥
Another mesmerizing installment. It's strange, when I think about the characters in this one, the general plot, what happens and the interaction between all of them it's hard for me to pinpoint what I actually liked so much or rather why I didn't dislike the whole of it. But the fact it, like the previous one, there was something very different and intriguing that makes this Erotica novella a lot more than just hot sex (which there was quite a lot of but not too overpowering in my opinion).
In the previous installment we met Shane and Gabriel, lovers though mostly obsessed with each other not actually loving each other. While Gabriel considers himself Bi, Shane always thought he was hetero, so the attraction to Gabriel was strange to him. At the moment, about 6 months after they first met, they have some sort of a relationship, yet it's even worse than in used to be. It'a an obsession, possession drenched in jealousy and every negative emotion you can think about (no love though as you can imagine). Their sex is angry and then apologetic, it's sick somehow, yet they stay this way, Gabriel being an obsession Shane can't shake unless Gabriel just leaves! But Gabriel won't leave, he likes being with Shane yet isn't willing to grant Shane monogamy. So even though I can't say I even like Shane (he is exactly the man I WOULDN'T be attracted to. He isn't a self observed, full of himself asshole but he behaves as one most of the time which I personally don't find appealing..) I actually pity him.
Since neither this one or the previous one gave us Gabriel's POV it's hard to know what's going on in his head really. He seems to want it all while tearing apart everyone around him. So yeah, it doesn't make him someone I'll actually like either..
Now add to this mix Natalie. When he car breaks down in the middle of no where she is extremely happy to see lights near by. The lights are from Shivaree bar when she meets the irresistible Gabriel and his over possessive lover. What happens you can guess. She wants Gabriel, Gabriel wants her, but Shane doesn't really want to share Gabriel, yet somehow he does, they share her together which had a lot more than sex to it when you see the way her presence there changes the unhealthy relationship they were having.
The sex was surprisingly hot. Why do I say surprisingly? because usually I don't like menage scenes. I think it's mostly because the main couple here were the guys and they way Natalie changed the dynamics with her presence made it a lot more than the act itself.
Next installment will bring this love story to an end. I really don't know what to expect.. I"m not even sure what I want! It's strange reading these two and not really liking either character. I mean Natalie was an okay character but from her POV we didn't get a lot of depth unlike the inner struggles of Shane we witnessed both in this one and the previous installment and Gabriel? he is a free spirit I can't see being interested, really interested, in someone enough to put aside his other needs.
I wasn't sure how I felt about Natalie getting between Shane and Gabriel, both figuratively and literally. First time I read this I was new to the m/m genre so I almost figure throwing Natalie in the mix made things more "normal". But I found that Shane's feelings were so raw that I didn't understand how he could deal with Gabriel being such a free person.
Again, you get to hear Shane POV... and also Natalie's, but not Gabriel's, even though he is what makes the world go round for Shane and has Natalie's head spinning. Wish I knew what was going through his head, but then there would be no suspense and I'd be sitting here yelling at Shane that 'NO... Gabriel really DOES love you!" :)
Recommended. This series is one of my all time favorites.
Like the first short story in this series - this story was a whole heap of hotness.
After Shane and Gabriel have started getting their sex on this brings a whole new addition to the mix - Natalie.
I was actually a little upset that Gabriel would want to bring someone into the temperamental relationship they already had but in the end it was such an awesome story.
Cara McKenna has solidified herself on my favourite erotic authors list. Her stories always have edge with a great depth to her characters in such a short space of words...and the sex is scorching SCORCHING.
And like the first book - you can't finish this one without buying the last book straight away.
Sequel to "Backwoods", so read that one first. And see my review of that one. This is un-freaking-believable! Sooo intense it's almost scary. I don't think I'm giving anything away to say there is menage in this, more than one, they are about about the hottest thing I've ever read, and the way the dynamics of that work out might not be what you expect;-P Again, this is erotica, but way, way more. Still all kinds of psychosexual intensity between the two male MC's. The addition of Natalie to the mix, a smart, sexually confidant woman who's not afraid to do or ask for what she wants, works perfectly & adds to both the tension and the heat. This is quite short, 5 chapters, and the intensity never lets up. This is book 2 of 3, Getaway follows this & is the conclusion.
Ehh Shane was a jerk thru the whole trilogy, he never redeemed himself imo. I wanted more from Shane and Gabriel, I didnt get their relationship besides their obvious chemistry.
This was the 2nd book in the Shivaree series. The same main characters from Backwoods, with the addition of Natalie Foster - a woman from upstate New York who is on her way back home from Miami - and she's on the rebound from her asshole ex-boyfriend. Her truck breaks down in the middle of the night - not too far from Shane's bar - and this is where she ends up for the night.
She meets Shane and Gabriel - not knowing that they are lovers. She is infatuated with Gabriel and it isn't long before she is dancing with him - and making Shane very jealous. BUT - Shane and Gabriel have a deal. Gabriel can sleep with women, provided Shane knows about it - and can join in if he chooses to. And of course - eventually - he does. Although, Natalie does sleep with Gabriel solo first. THEN they go for the threesome.
The chemistry between all three characters works.....quite well, actually. And there was an element to their threesome that I have yet to encounter in other books involving more than 2 people in the bedroom.....so that was, um, interesting. Shane was his normal dickish self, which is surprisingly hot. I don't like dominate/asshole men.....but it worked for Shane. And Gabriel is still somewhat of a mystery.....to the people he encounters as well as the reader.
Again - my only complaint was that this could have easily been a full length novel. With good stories, though, I always want more....no matter how long they are. And I definitely wanted more of this story.
"I hate him because he makes me love him, and he doesn't love me back"
I have such love/hate feelings towards Gabriel. He's such a mystery and manipulative and I totally get why Shane is crazy over him. But I think I want Shane to walk away from him now.
As expected, this one wasn't quite as good for me due to the menage factor. Natalie is ok, I don't hate her but I'm just more invested and interested in Shane & Gabriel. The threesome scenes are erotic and well written but it's just not my thing...I rather it just be Gabriel & Shane alone together.
I will be reading the final novella in this series next!
I love Cara McKenna!! She is an awesome writer and this was a great short story :-) But is it just me or was some tension or chemistry missing in this book when comparing to Backwoods? Also I didn´t quite believe how Natalie was just ok with everything, with coming to a unknown bar and without a hesitation or a single doubt in her mind having sex with two complete strangers.. In Backwoods we saw Shane fighting his attraction to Gabriel, questioning it and thanks to that it felt more real. But whatever, this is erotica and we love it for what it is :-) And this was definitely hot!
I almost didn't read this because it was M/F/M (I don't like ménage stories), but it was the follow up to Backwoods and I really wanted to read that follow up and see where the author took the two male MCs. Interestingly the ménage was secondary just like the female character was. The story continues to be the relationship between Shane and Gabriel. It has become darker and even more obsessive and is heading towards a breaking point...can't wait to read the follow up...
Not as crazy about the introduction of Natalie. Her presence confused me. I liked the Shane/Gabriel dynamic better. This book just felt cold and almost cruel to me. Natalie didn't even really help matters, and her willingness to mess with Shane and Gabriel's volatile relationship sort of annoyed me.
Shane and Gabriel are six-months into their uneasy relationship when Natalie's truck breaks down by the Shivaree during her road trip back to New York. Gabriel is atracted to Natalie and she ends up on Shane's couch and in Shane's bed with Gabriel the following morning. Hot story.
