It wasn't as if, Simon Northam, Duke of Hurstgrove a.k.a."Duke", intended on ruining his brother's wedding. His relationship with his brother was already on rocky ground, but he really did have good intentions. He was trying to save Felicia's life, not to mention the world. I really liked Duke's character and in truth, I felt sorry for him. He hid who he truely was, for the sake of his family and the Brethern. Even though at times, it didn't shine a positive light on him in public and never complained about it.

When Mason confessed his adoration for Felicia, she knew then, that it wouldn't have worked out between them. She wasn't marrying him because she loved him. No, she intended on marrying him because he was safe. But, now that she heard Mason's confession, she didn't think she could go through with it. How dense can someone be? Of course he loved her, he asked her to marry him! So, when Duke attempted to take her from her wedding, I did't understand her problem. I mean seriously...her life was in danger, she knew Duke was telling the truth, and she was being given the perfect opportunity to bale out of the wedding.

While the chemistry was there in the beginning, I couldn't help but wish Duke would find another mate and leave Felicia to Mason. I don't know how many times, I wanted to slap her, shake her, something...I mean come on... She wasn't confused, she knew her own feelings, she just didn't want to admit them. No, she was in constantly denial, whiny and too self absorbed. She knew Duke was sacrificing everything to keep her safe. But, she hid behind her loyalty to Mason...the man she didn't love. Then, when she decided that it was okay to bed with Duke, but she wouldn't allow herself to fall in love with him...Why you ask? Because her sister had a bad realtionship...OMG!!! BooHoo!!! I never wanted to scream more than I did at that moment. I was like..."That was it? That was the big secret? The big tramatic event? OMG!!! Get over it already... you stupid girl". I absolutely loved when Ice shamed her and Bram gave her a big verbal smackdown. Hell Yeah, you go Bram!

Overall, this was a great read. As you can sense from above...the author pulled me in, got me emotionally enthralled and passionate with her writing skills. I really loved the underlining plot of the series and how the author created a crediable alternate tale to the Merlin and Morganna le Fay mythology. The characters were very engaging, and Duke should have been titled a saint for all the crap he went through. He was probably my favorite. I also enjoyed the way the author entertwined the other Brethern and thier relationships, as a way to update and tease of things to come. If you have never read this series, you are missing out. This book can be read as a standalone, but, I recommend reading the whole series, you won't be disappointed.

A big 4 1/2 stars for me. I REALLY liked this book, it was a good addition to a fabulous series. Shayla takes you on an adventure with Witch's, Wizard's and really evil bad guy's where love conquers all. I love all the characters in this series. The imagination Shayla uses on them is fantastic. The heat was very good in the love scenes but I wish there would have been one or two more, LOL! The thing I liked least about this book was it took the heroine a bit too long to totally trust and let the hero into her heart. I understand she had her issue's but after a while it just got on my nerves. By the ending that was all solved, H&H are together and happy and the next Doomsday book is all set up to go. I sincerely hope that I do not have to wait a whole year for the next full length book in this series to come out. If I had my way, Shayla would not write any other series. I'd lock her in a room and command her to write until this series is finished. Rest assured I will be continuing this series. It looks like Lucan and Anka are finally gonna get their story.

Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy

While the quick snap of love at first sight is a common occurrence in paranormal romances, falling in "trust" usually takes the span of an entire book or series. I would have guessed that a heroine with the magical ability to sense lies would have a fast track through the trust building process, but ENTICE ME AT TWILIGHT proved me wrong.

On the day of her wedding, Felica's truth-sense helps her quickly accept that her life is in danger and that her future brother-in-law is not quite human, but no magic will make her believe that love can last forever. Throughout ENTICE ME AT TWILIGHT there are hints that events in Felicia's past make her frightened of falling in love and opening up to another person. These hints were never sufficient for me to feel invested in her motivations, and I often lost patience with her behavior.

Luckily, this frustrating heroine had a stellar supporting cast, and a pretty great hero. I loved that when Felicia's magical power is revealed to the Doomsday Brethren, the cohort of wizards fighting on the side of good, Simon's only response is to be more careful in choosing his words (making him the only man on earth who would think having a soul-mate who can detect lies isn't a big deal). It was also interesting seeing how Simon, who holds the human title "Duke of Hurstgrove" and often goes by “Duke”, balances a life or death war with life in the public eye. I can't imagine celebrities like Paris Hilton or Colin Farrell having a secret, wizardly identity underneath the constant public scrutiny, and Simon certainly struggles with just that task.

While ENTICE ME AT TWILIGHT was an easy book to pick up and jump into, I found I was most interested in subplots rather than Felicia and Simon themselves. It is apparent from back-story provided in ENTICE ME AT TWILIGHT that there are some great relationships and uncommon plot gambits in this series' prior books. I plan on picking up books one through three and a half for my TBR pile, and will be in a hurry to buy any future book that will tell me more about the chief wizard's disappearing soul-mate or Shock, a complex mind-reader who can't seem to decide which side of the war he is on.

While I enjoyed the tantalizing (and damaged) future heroes in the background, I was never particularly engaged by Felicia and Simon themselves. Both of the main characters made decisions I found frustrating, and that decreased my enjoyment of their particular plot line. To someone familiar with the series (and perhaps invested in Simon from previous books), this book could be much more satisfying. As for me, while my appetite has been whetted for more of the Doomsday Brethren, the main event in ENTICE ME AT TWILIGHT just didn't click.

Entice Me at Twilight (Doomsday Brethren, #4) by Shayla Black Sexy Simon, how unfortunate for you that your destined mate happens to be emotionally unavailable. You're smart, privileged, and a ripped warrior wizard committed to keeping a madman from gaining power; further, your emotional IQ is remarkably high. But to be stuck playing therapist to a woman suffering from a bad case of emotional constipation when you need to be mated to someone more your equal is sad, indeed.

Did I skim? Yes
Wil I re-read? I might skim through my favorite parts.
The supporting characters are interesting enough that I'll probably continue with the series, but I'll not pay full price for the next book upon it's release in 2011.

This book and the one before it were the best in this series, so far. I was a fan of these characters and their very real life problems. It's always nice to have a story line that you can relate to, during an adventure in wizardry. :)

The Doomsday Brethren continues to fight against the malicious wizard Mathias and they have just learned of his recent plan that could mean their end. Mathias intends to resurrect a witch who's heart is as black and evil as his own. Morganna le Fay. It is easier said than done. An Untouchable, a rare human that debilitates magic just by being near, is needed to safely make it past the magical traps that are in Morganna's tomb.

Simon Northam, Duke of Hurstgrove, has had a precarious relationship with his younger brother Mason for years and things only get worse when it comes to light that his fiancee Felicia is the Untouchable they seek. In order to keep Felicia out of the hands of Mathias, Simon kidnaps her on her wedding day. While trying to stay one step ahead of Mathias, Felicia and Simon battle the ever increasing desire that is between them. They may have to choose whether to give into their hearts or risk losing someone they both hold dear.

Simon is the quintessential playboy. He is handsome, rich, likes to have a good time, arrogant and his relationships with women are brief. At least that is what the public sees. What they don't know is that he is a wizard who fights with the Doomsday Brethren to stop a madman from taking over the magic world. He is fierce in his fighting and loyal to his fellow Brethren. When he first takes Felicia from his brother Mason, Simon shows great restraint not to cross a line even though he can feel that it's not simple lust he feels towards Felicia. The first time Felicia meets Simon is right before her wedding and she doesn't like the odd feelings he gives her. Having witnessed what happens to a woman whose heart is broken, she decides to marry her best friend Mason because he is a safe choice. Felicia is a reasonable, intelligent woman who knows that Simon isn't lying about the threat to her life and takes to the knowledge of magic very well. What shakes her to her core is Simon. His touch makes her melt and she fears losing her heart to a man who is not known for having lasting relationships.

Simon has been a favorite of mine throughout the series and I've been looking forward to his book. I've always known there was more to the pretty face and bed hopping Duke. It just took a good woman to bring it out. His feelings for Felicia come hard and fast. Within days he knows there will never be another. The lengths he goes to to win over her trust and heart is sweet. Felicia watched her older sister wither away to nothing because a man broke her heart and is determined to never let that happen to her. She decides to marry Mason because he agreed to give her the family she has always longed for while still remaining friends. I don't see how she ever thought that would work. After being brought into the Brethren world she fights very hard to not fall for Simon. She builds these walls around her heart and Simon does his best to break through them but they can't move forward until she allows him in. I can understand Felicia's hesitation but she doesn't try nearly as hard as Simon does to work on their relationship even though she claims to until it's almost too late. I admired her strength, intelligence and resilience but I wish she hadn't been so hesitant towards Simon when he laid himself out there to her over and over. I really wanted to see Simon and Felicia together but I couldn't help but feel bad for Mason. He really does love Felicia and if anyone gets a raw deal in the book it's him.

Mathias has laid low for a while but that doesn't mean he hasn't been busy. He is trying to find a way into Morganna's tomb and if he succeeds in resurrecting her, he will truly be unstoppable. Felicia, Simon and his fellow warriors face dangerous challenges and there is no guarantee they will all make it out alive. Mathias has been the main villain since book one but I'm still not bored with him. His wickedness knows no boundaries and it's hard to predict his next move. He keeps the Brethren on constant guard while keeping things interesting. Bram, grandson of the great Merlin and Doomsday Brethren leader, continues to spiral ever since his mysterious mate Emma left him without a trace. Lucan will be the next one to get his book and after reading the blurb at the end of this book, it's going to be a emotional read. One (of many) things I like about this series is how all characters are in each book. When it comes time for one of the wizards to have their own story told, you've already had time to get to know them. It makes the reading experience a little better because you're not completely clueless as to what is going on.

Entice Me At Twilight was hard to put down. Shayla Black has delivered another addicting installment to her Doomsday Brethren series. The relationship between Felicia and Simon is intense and filled with emotional highs and lows. Their journey to be together is not an easy one but it makes the ending worth the torture. There is a good amount of action while they were running from Mathias and then navigating Morganna's tomb. This is a paranormal romance series so the love story does tend to take up a large part of the book but it doesn't take it over. I don't feel as if something was left out just so more room could be made for another sex scene as is the case in a lot of PNR books. Only complaint is I have to wait till 2012 till the next book.

Duke has lived a human life of privilege and fame, but in the magical world is status is no one of worth. He has never felt at home in either world until he met Felicia. The only hang up with that is he met her when his human brother introduced her as his fiancé.

After discovering that Felicia is the untouchable that Matthias is seeking to resurrect Morganna , the doomsday brethren will let nothing stand in their way of retrieving and protecting her from Matthias even her wedding.

After kidnapping her from her own wedding, this over powering sexual man has now set up shop in her mind and slowly courting her heart. Can she resist him and save herself the heart ache. But if she resists the bond between them will it cost all of magic kind their lives?

Duke knew she was his mate from the moment her kissed her. He willingly risks it all to keep her safe and prove to her he truly loves her. But with all his efforts he's afraid it will not matter if she will not let him in her heart.

I liked this Installment. Duke was patient sexy and protective, made my heart melt. I hurt for him when Felicia couldn't let down her gaud and love him. Felicia was too closed off for me she didn't seem to have enough reason to be the emotionally scared to not be able to love duke. The story was fast past and an easy read. There was not too much battling in this one I kind of missed that. All in all it was a good book.

❤❤❤ ¼

I began this series with book #3 and felt lost during several aspects of the plot. It wasn't enough to hinder the story in Possess Me at Midnight though. It was mostly just some background stuff that intrigued me or left me with questions. I didn't blame the author for the lack of back story however. But after reading book 4 and gaining a great deal more information of previous events I'm changing my tune a little. She did a lot of world building in this book but perhaps I'm just conceding that the plot of book #4 is much more conducive to recounting the circumstances of the past. It involves a human (in magic kinds world) and she has to have almost everything explained to her. What better way to review the past with the reader. But, even after all that info I still feel like I don't get it enough to write an informative review. That's probably why you shouldn't start in the middle of this series like I did.

Book 4 begins a couple weeks after the end of book #3. The council has mandated that the Doomsday Brethern can kill Mathias on sight. Bram, the leader of the Brethern has gathered Duke, Marrok and Ice at the demolished site of his former home to retrieve tomes written by his grandfather, Merlin. Fearing Mathais d'Arc might have found them after he destroyed Bram's home, they try to enter the rubble site and encounter Shock's magic surrounding the place which bars their entry. Shock appears, a fight breaks out, and Shock ensures he's fighting Duke inside the magic bubble so now one can hear and he can impart some information to Duke only. Whether this information is to help the Brethren or help Mathias we don't know but it gives us out plot. Shock reveals that Mathias' new scheme is to resurrect Morganna le Fay, one of the most evil witches in history, and to do so he needs an Untouchable: a person born every thousand years who is immune to magic (also repels it so magickind can't use magic around them). Shock tells Duke that his aura/signature looks shiny around the edges, a sign that he's encountered the Untouchable in the last 48hrs. In the past two days Duke has meet dozens of new people while preparing his home for his estranged brother's wedding (Mason). The Brethren head Shocks warning and arrive late to the wedding, where Duke is the best man, and on thin ice as it is, to search for the Untouchable. It turns out to be the bride, Felicia Safford. Seeing no other options, Duke abducts her as Mathais and the Anarki arrive at the wedding. Duke had hoped it would be anyone but Felicia. He's already has a strained relationship with his brother and he's been unable to stop thinking about the bride since he met her 2 days ago. Now his abducting her from her wedding, and if he's being honest he's not that sorry. He's convinced that if he can have just have one taste, he'll confirm that she's meant to be his mate.

What a twisted little story this turned out to be. I really liked this one even though there was a lot of the same stuff happening over and over. The same thoughts, dilemmas and badgering were on every few pages. But I like these men, with maybe the exception of Bram so I'm hoping I can obtain the whole series soon.

Felicia and Duke have some funny dialogue in the first car ride when Felicia is trying to sniff out what Duke is. She asks in much stronger and more clever sentences if he's a ghost, vampire, zombie, elf, fairy, etc. He's more and more offended with each question but offers witty and lengthy responses. I thought this was a great couple pages of dialogue.

Felicia's nickname (sunshine) felt contrived. I'm usually a nickname fan but in this case it felt like the author used one in the last book so I'm assuming all the books have one, so this one needed one as well. In that same vein of repetition, there was a "hands above your head and don't let go" scene that I'm fairly certain was in book #3 too.

Bram is a real manipulative jerk sometimes. I began to really dislike him but in the end I felt like the leader has to do what he has to do. He doesn't have to be so cold about it though.

I had some unanswered questions from book #3 and surprisingly a lot of them were touched upon in the first several pages of book #4.

Who is Shock?
Clearly he's loyal to the Brethren when it matters most but he plays both sides. I think he might be the coolest characters of all but I'm not sure I enjoyed what he did in this book.

Who is Zain?
Shock's brother. Was held captive by Bram recently. Loyalties seems to be with Mathias.

What's up with Emma?
So Emma and Bram has one night together which makes them mated. I assume Bram spoke the call since he seeks out surrogates. And we learn a new secret about Emma...OMG.

What happened to Anka?
I didn't learn much more but Mathais abducts and rapes her for days. She forget Lucan (although she seemed to remember quite a bit some maybe she temporarily forgets?) and shakes up with Shock to heal, hide, whatever. Such a sad story and a absolutely cannot wait to read her story.

Who is Mathais and what's his problem?
He's maybe risen from the dead or at least escaped it. He pretends to work in benefit to the Deprived class although I'm not sure if that's what he does, so much as what he claimed in the last book, and he wants to take over magickind. Super.

What are the Anarki?
Hooded and cloaked zombie humans whose souls were taken and replaced with Mathais' thoughts.

Who are the Wolvsey twins?
Other than Brethren members and the heroes of two novellas, I still don't know.

Sydney, Kari and Marrok are human. I had wondered if everyone was magic and got my answer. Also, the humans, or mates assume the longer life span of the couple, so all these folks live 1000yr. Marrok is 1500 and I guess spent a lot of time cursed by Morganna.

Why is there a Privileged and Deprived? Still no answer.

Are the old-timey Council members really that stupid? Still don't know but I learned that they are magickind's governing board, comprised of seven wizards from prominent families. I got that from book #3 but I was not sure how many and where they came from.

Plus I learned the sad connection between Auropha and Tynan. I hated that part. (Mentioned briefly in book #1, more so in book #2).

Added 03/08/13 - Since my review I have read books 1-4 and I can't wait for book #5.

Handsome wizards

It’s Felicia’s wedding day and she’s marrying her best friend, Mason, but she doesn’t love him. He confesses that he’s in love with her but that doesn’t make her happy because she doesn’t believe in love. Simon is a Duke and a wizard but his family doesn’t know about him. He is looking for an Untouchable, a person who stops the magic around them. When he realizes it’s Felicia, his half brother’s future bride, he kidnaps her so the wicked wizard Mathias can’t get to her first. Felicia had a hidden talent that no one knows about, she can tell when someone is lying to her. So everything Simon has told her is the truth. They go to Merlin’s tomb where his sisters essence is kept, to stop Mathias from getting it and releasing her.
Simon knows Felicia is his mate and he has fallen in love with her very fast. The only problem is getting her to let her walls down and love him back before it’s too late.
Great story with action, suspense and sex. Felicia is afraid of love but Simon will do anything to spend eternity with her. Just a little cliffhanger. I wanted to cry for Simon and Felicia. Simon for loving and not knowing if he’d be loved back. Felicia for losing a loved one and not being able to move past it.

In national bestselling author Shayla Black’s electrifying new novel, the Doomsday Brethren fight their mortal enemy for the newest weapon in a bloody magical war: the only woman a magical warrior shouldn’t claim…and the one he can’t resist.

Dangerously handsome Simon Northam, Duke of Hurstgrove, and his uptight barrister brother hardly get along, but crashing Mason’s wedding and stealing his fiancée take sibling rivalry to a new level. Duke’s family knows nothing of his magical prowess or the Doomsday Brethren, so how can he explain that mankind’s fate lies with the beautiful, tenacious bride he longs to seduce for himself?

He faces a terrible choice: betray his brother for ultimate survival . . . or lose the woman who tempts him beyond control. Shayla Black

I picked up this book because I wanted to read Shayla Black and when I found it at the Romance Writers of America booth at  BEA, it seemed like a good opportunity.
I thought ENTICE ME AT TWILIGHT was wildly romantic and although it took a while for the couple to hook up it was worth it in the end as Shayla writes the intimate scenes with a lot of heat and with the characters emotions very much in the fore.  Then, except for the first chapter, I think the book stands alone even though it is the fourth in the series. That's without a lot of  obvious information dumping.

On the surface, Shayla's characters are very much the usual suspects for the paranormal warriors and lovers category.  You know — tough but sexy, support cast, or, vulnerable and sexy in need of rescue or protection.  And, for the most part, the characters stay there except for the main characters in the story, Simon and Felicia.

Simon is heroic, dashing, really rich, royal and such. But he is also opened up emotionally by Felicia, a devious strategist, and really thoughtful, and masterful, in bed. I would also say he is insecure about his abilities and his heritage. I am not sure from which parent he inherited his title.  Felicia has a complicated past and was abandoned by her birth parents and emotionally by her adoptive parents and more recently her sister. I get mixed signals about her social and financial position.  It does take her a good long time to truly be into the relationship, heart and mind.

The premise of this book is that Felicia dampens magic and will dampen the spells placed by Merlin to allow the return of the very evil Morganna la Fay whose essence was magically bottled by Merlin.  The villain of the piece, Mathias, who already magically escaped death, plans to bring that wicked witch back to life.  Felicia's "untouchability," however is applied unevenly. For example, the magical spells protecting the tomb do not entirely go away when she is engaged in them.  And, if Mathias cheated death via magic then his life would now be only possible via magic, hence in addition to the inability to perform magic in her presence, his ability to stay alive should  be dampened. Not to mention her effect on the very spell that keeps Morgan's essence viable would be to render it ineffective and either automatically release her or  kill her dead.  I found these points, which I thought were flaws in the book's logic, distracting.

While the journey to love from an antagonistic relationship was accelerated, especially in Felicia's emotions and mind set, I found it exciting and hopeful.

In the long run I enjoyed the book and read the paperback over two days in about 6 hours. I think I would more within the series if the hook ups are this steamy and romantic.  Although I felt the logic was flawed, I recommend the story because it has interesting characters I wanted to read about and Shayla writes the intimacy well.  It was magically delicious!

Felicia is an untouchable. She has the ability to disable magic. A mad wizard, Mathias, is after her to use her power. Simon just found out that he is a wizard and he has to protect Felicia. The build up of the story was very slow almost to the point of boredom. Felicia was a constant problem with her constant doubt and confusion. I could not take her not being willing to talk about her past. Females are not this weak.

Once more Ms. Black insists on an impossible and annoying heroine. Duke was really a prince and a very sensual dominant. Still curious about Shock, especially with Anka's revelations.

Entice Me at Twilight by Shayla Black
Paranormal Romance –Oct. 26th, 2010
5 stars

I loved Entice Me at Twilight! Why? Because the whole story rocks! Shayla Black is a master story teller as she returns to her complex and super sexy paranormal series, the Doomsday Brethren. In this series there are wizards and magic that most of the human population are unaware of. Unfortunately, one wizard named Matthias is determined to win absolute control. He has recruited other wizards and amassed an inhuman army. And only the valiant Doomsday Brethren has a chance to stop him!

In this story the uptight and super sexy aristocrat Simon Northam Duke of Hurstgrove is half human and half wizard. He is summoned by their leader Bram to find an untouchable. An untouchable is rare person who is unaffected by magic. Simon discovers that their enemy Mathias plans to find and use an untouchable to release Morganna le Fay, a powerful witch and harness her power. (Because only an untouchable can walk through the deadly magical traps that entomb her.)

Simon soon discovers that he has been near the untouchable recently because that person has affected his magical aura. And he realizes it must be one of the guests at his brother Mason’s wedding. But when they arrive and 'crash' the party Simon is dismayed to discover that the untouchable is Mason's extremely desirable bride to be Felicia! And to his brother’s ire Simon finds that he must kidnap her to protect her. But Simon is further conflicted because he is extremely attracted to her and doesn’t want to hurt his brother.

Felicia craves a life that is pain free and thinks she has found it with her dependable best
friend Mason. But she discovers to her distress and shock that Mason really loves her and not just as a friend. Felicia knew they would eventually have sexual relations as a couple but when Mason kisses her she panics. When Mason's wildly attractive and wastrel brother tells her that she is in danger and abducts her from her own wedding she is upset and oddly relieved. But his crazy talk about death and magic is just mad... or is it?

This was a fantastic story because it has so much going on and the 2 main characters are such a joy to read. Simon and Felicia had a lot of chemistry. I enjoyed the intensity between the 2 of them and their forbidden love made it even more enthralling and delicious to read. Felicia is no pushover. Simon has always been a bit standoffish and it was a pleasure to see Felicia break his hard won control. He tries to stay away from her since he doesn't want to further jeopardize his relationship with his brother but his attraction to her is soo intense!

I also loved how this author flawlessly juggled the intertwining storylines of the other Brethren. Lucan nearly went insane and is trying to recover the severing of his bond with his mate Anka. Anka has been abducted and abused by the enemy and now survives by living with Shock a man whose loyalty is ambiguous. Shock’s character is tortured and has a lot of depth and I would love to find out his past! I would also like to know about Bram whose missing mate is mysterious, elusive and I am eager to find out what happens once he finally gets his hands on her...

If you have not read this series, you really don't know what you are missing! (Especially if you like paranormal romances with a lot of substance and a real plot.) The Doomsday Brethren and their trials are riveting to read. Hot heroes, sexy and sassy heroines and some really wicked evilness make for a phenomenal series. This book did not disappoint but it made me want more!! So my only complaint would be I wish Shayla Black wrote faster!!

I enjoyed this novel just about as much as the previous one in this series. If not even more so. It brought to light a new side of an old main character, and it worked out beautifully. This novel was actually spiced up enough that I couldn't stop reading it, even if I wanted to. It was a fresh idea in a storm of chaos and mystery. Which only begs the question as to why this story was left until almost the very end of the series?

Mathias has proven himself to be completely insane. He's already killed members of the council and attempted to kill Ice. Fortunately Ice have proven hard to kill, and he now has the last open Council seat for himself. However, Mathias doesn't stop there. He's recently received word of the person who renders all magic null and void. A person who can help him get into Morganna let Fay's tomb. And to make matters even more complicated, it seems that Duke has recently come into contact with said person. The only way being at his brother's wedding rehearsal. The same brother that he's been trying to make amends with for years now. But at this point it's looking like their mother will never get her wish. Her wish being that they both work things out eventually. Which may now never happen, because Duke has found out who the null is. And of course it's the one person that he's been trying to avoid for the last couple weeks. His brother fiancée Felicia. And if it's one thing that Felicia can't stand, it's being lied to. Especially, when she knows you're doing it. Because that's just one of her many talents. So when she overhears Duke and Mason arguing over her life being in danger, she has to believe it. For nothing out of Duke's mouth has been a lie so far. Meaning that this madman really is going after her, and if even anything about him is true that she has a real cause to worry. So with her safety in mind Felicia agrees to go with Duke. Much to Mason's own dismay. For he swears that Duke is only trying to seduce Felicia for himself. An he's not far from the truth, because Duke has only been avoiding her for one reason. The reason being that Felicia is his intended Mate.

This novel would be considered an urban fantasy romance novel. One that has quite a few different character aspects to it. Including wizards, immortal men, and a psychopathic madman. Making for quite an interesting read for any urban fantasy lover. However, it's the plot to this novel that really catches your eye. It has that forbidden love romance to it, and yet it's almost a kidnapping type of plot as well. Which only enhances this novel's enticing factor even more. It's full of passion, mystery, action, and so much more. It's the type of novel that you'll find very addicting, very quickly. So when it all comes down to my final recommendation I'd say that it's a pretty good one. For this novel is perfect for any urban fantasy lovers out there. It'll keep you hooked until the very end, and even then you still want more.

This is the fourth installment of the Doomsday Brethren series and now the battle between the Brethren and Matthias is in full swing. He's been holding nothing back and now wants more. And that more is that he wants to bring Morgana La Fey back to life.

But to do that he will need a special piece of the puzzle. He needs an Untouchable. Those humans are rare, come once in many years, and render anyone with magical powers around them well.... powerless.

And it seems that the Brethren has found the untouchable for him. In the form of Duke's mate. Oh but not just is she an untouchable and Matthias wants her for his evil schemes, she is also engaged to marry Duke's brother.

In order to keep her safe and still keep his identity undercover, Duke just kidnaps Felicia the day of her wedding to his brother, and goes into hiding to keep her safe. Yeah, talk about family drama!

I have to be honest but Felicia was not my favorite heroine of this series. I felt that she could've been so much more being that she's an untouchable and that she has the power of being a living lie detector. She could've been so cool, but for me she fell a bit flat. She had some hang ups about not wanting to fall in love because her own sister had fallen in love with a guy who broke her heart and pushed her to suicide. So now Felicia has closed herself off. That seemed a bit off for me. Maybe I was trying too much to make sense of it all.

Duke on the other hand was of course sexy, because well, all those warriors are just oh so hot. But other than the regular warrior sexiness, and the fact that Simon (because that's actually his name) is really a Duke, I would've liked to have seen more of his suave persona.

I do see them as a good couple in the future as they can work together if we get to see more of them.

And have I mentioned this earlier? Bram has turned into a bit of a bastard! Please tell me he gets better. I want to cry and I miss his funny and joking, good natured self. What we discovered about Emma though was tough. I really can't wait to read their story!!!!

Fave Quotes:

"Us mere mortals need a bit of time to recover. You don’t?”
“Because we generate energy from sex, wizards are pretty much ready every moment of every day.”

"Hurstgrove, I’ve never, um …”
He froze and glared up at her. “It’s Simon. You’re going to say it. Scream it. Over and over as you come until you get it right.”

I enjoy the Doomsday Brethren series due to the unique paranormal beings in the books. The characters are wizards, witches, and an enormous Arthurian warrior (love the way Marrock speaks.) It’s a very interesting grouping. I love to get my hands on something different. Entice Me at Twilight and the introduction of the Untouchable is set up in Mated from the Haunted by Your Touch anthology. Tabitha’s family has hidden the Untouchable family tree and its most recent birth, along with the identity of that baby. Only after Mathias slaughters her family and her father’s dying words does anyone even realize that this person must be found and protected.

Simon has lived a privileged human life. He’s a titled Duke. He is also trying to save magickind from a very evil wizard along with the other members of the Doomsday Brethren. Shock informs Duke that his magical signature reflects that he has touched the Untouchable recently. Duke knows that this could have only happened during the wedding planning that is going on with his half-brother. Shock also drops the bomb as to why the Untouchable is being sought after by the uber evil Mathias. Shock is chock full of Shocks! The Untouchable just happens to be his half-brothers (who he has a poor relationship with) fiancé.

Felicia ruined this book in my opinion. She (self-confessed) admits she has a “bullshit barometer,” yet Simon/Duke spends the entire book trying to convince her that he is honest and trustworthy. Felicia has had a tragic loss in her life. I was shocked at the big reveal of the whys of her problems. I expected it to be something absolutely horrific, it’s not. I also had issues with her marrying a man that she did not love, did not have any sexual desires for, but she wants a home and children with him. I am curious how Felicia and her being an Untouchable will affect the entire Brethren. She prevents magic from being used in her presence. Can she live with the entire team as they live now?

I enjoyed the story around the couple. Mathias is going to attempt to resurrect Morganna le Fay. The Brethren must stop this. They have continually fought to put an end to Mathias, yet the resurrected wizard seems next to impossible to kill. With a resurrection of Morganna they will either be fighting two extremely evil, ridiculously powerful magicians, or Morganna will not want to fight by Mathias, so she’ll kill him and reign magic terror all on her own. Either scenario equates to major problems for the Brethren.

Readers also find out some interesting pieces of information concerning Bram and his very elusive mate. I am very curious as to where that hot mess is going to go.

Did you catch a theme with this Doomsday Brethren series? It's AWESOME! Shayla Black gives us Book 4 in the series - Entice Me at Twilight. I try not to give too much of the plot away in my reviews, I'm not sure I can continue to hold back. You'll see from the prior 3 books, she packs action, erotica, and suspense into each book.

So far Black has created a group of smart, sexy, heartthrob wizards. There is every persona you could hope for; from the proper aristocrat, the hard core bad ass, the lost love, to the avenged warrior, the fearless leader and every one in between. I fell instantly in Book 1 for Ice and Shock as they were introduced. Ice had his book (book 3) and in each one Black gives us just a bit more of Shock. A tidbit here, a reminder there; I can not wait for his book! I have a feeling I'll be waiting a long time. We can't forget the mates, the women behind the men. They are pivotal to the protection of the Doomsday diary. Each mate coming into the team just as powerful as her male. (even more so)
I'm still amazed at how Black gives you so much in each book, the main romance, the captivating battles, and the side stories that are set up for so many of the characters.

Coming off book 3 Lucan and Anka are still at wits, keeping the desire to see the outcome of their relationship maxed in our thoughts; and of course for me, what will that be for Shock. Picking up right where we left off, Black gives us Duke (Simon) and adds in an unexpected woman with a tremendous power. I found this book fresh life, I loved Black's use of Duke's paparazzi world to incorporate the relationship with Felicia.

As Felicia realizes just how much of her past she has to come to terms with, Duke is there to push her to the ultimate level. Counting on the ability to love in order to be saved, Black keeps the saga alive. We can't forget Black's signature steam - erotic scenes are her specialty. Mathias is not gone, as he continues to cause chaos and leave death where ever he has been. Once again, our brethren is at the top of the league. Adding a twist, Black keeps you guessing if our leading couple will end up in their happily ever after. As you end - - you've got one of the best cliff hangers with Anka...

If you still haven't tried this series - get off your butt and get these books!

This fourth instalment of the Doomsday Brethren series was easy to pick up and get right into despite having read the previous book a year ago. Shayla Black has delivered a welcome return to the world of the Brethren, a group of Wizards keeping the secrets of magic and fighting the evil Matthias’s plans to cause anarchy with his, um, Anarki. The world that Black has created follows some of the usual formulas of a successful paranormal series (a hero and heroine finding their happily ever after, while some force works to thwart them; magical/paranormal/superhero chicanery and a suspension of the normal world view) but unlike most series, this one is set in England. Black entangles thread of Merlin and the Arthurian legend into this tale, which adds a delightful frisson. I like the different tone of the dialogue between the wizards with its flavour of snark and Britishness (for international readership- the two are not necessarily the same!).

The couple in focus here are Duke and Felicia, who at the start of the novel is engaged to Duke’s brother and planning to live a life of quiet desperation. Then Duke crashes into her life and those plans change. For Felicia holds a special power, both magical and over Duke, but it takes her the whole book to make peace with it.
While I enjoyed the book, especially the satisfyingly chunky multiple story arcs with old favourite characters, I really didn’t gel well with Felicia as a main character. I found her constant OCD-looping about her dead sister, and her naïveté about the fact that she would eventually have to have sex with Mason if she marries him, rather annoying. Duke, however, was a sympathetic character. Gentlemanly and considerate, yet also passionate and self-sacrificing.

The evil Mathias is at the centre of the plot movement- and what an odious miscreant he is. He kills a much loved character and the ramifications of his previous evil machinations continue to be felt, with Black leaving us with the promise of more to come.

Overall, I felt the need to keep the pages turning and while it may not be a book I will reread, it was a most enjoyable weekend interlude with some of my favourite wizards.

Blysse’s Hot:Plot Ratio
As we have come to expect from Black, the hot is……HOT but with perfectly satisfying plot.

"Entice Me at Twilight" is book 4 in Shayla Black's Doomsday Brethren story. For those not familiar with the books, the Brethren are a group of good wizards who have banded together to fight off the evil sorcerer Matthias --and to keep a powerful book, called the Doomsday Diary, away from him.

Simon is a member of the Brethren. As our story begins, he is preparing to attend his human half-brother's wedding. He is attracted to the bride, Felicia. But he doesn't realize that she feels only deep friendship for Mason, her groom. Quickly, it's revealed that Felicia is "an Untouchable," a special human born once every 1000 years who nullifies magic. She doesn't know what she is or anything about magickind. The only thing she knows that makes her different is her ability to smell a lie.

Anyway, Matthias has his sights set on Felicia. He wants to use her to open the tomb of Morgan Le Fay and resurrect her. So, Simon whisks her away from the wedding to protect her. They fight their attraction to each other, mostly because they both care about Mason's feelings. But soon, even that is not enough to keep them apart. What does serve as a barrier between them are Felicia's serious emotional problems. She is so afraid of letting someone in that she has cut herself off from love. It's frustrating to watch Simon put himself out there for her, over and over, while she continues to hold on to her insecurities.

We're told Felicia's problems stem from her sister's suicide. That just didn't hold up for me. It would have been easier for me to accept loyalty to Mason as a stumbling block... but maybe that's just me. I liked the book, though not quite as much as Possess Me at Midnight. The teaser at the end makes it look like the next book will be Lucien's, so I am looking forward to that.

Also in this book, we lost a member of the Brethren to a gruesome death. Not only was I upset by the loss, but I didn't feel like it got nearly enough attention. I felt like this should have been made a much bigger deal than it was.

Rich, handsome Doomsday Brethren Simon Northam aka Duke meets his destined mate in this installment. The story begins with the revelation that Duke's magical signature has been altered by an Untouchable. A rare being in the world of magickind that has the ability to negate magic. He is further shocked to find that this unknown person is also valuable to Mathasis. The problem, he is not sure who it could be. He had only been to his home to meet his brother's intended bride, Felicia and those who will be attending the wedding later in the evening. Felicia is literally headed to the alter with Duke's brother Mason when he relizes she is the one. Mathasis shows up as well and Duke is forced to make a run for it with Felicia. While driving for the safety of Ice's cave lair, Duke accepts that Felicia is his mate.

Felicia has an emotional baracade around her heart. Although engaged to Mason, she has never really given her heart to him either. It's through a hidden and unique gift Felicia carries that allows her to see the truth and realizes that Duke has his sights set on her mind, soul, and body. It's a challenge to the very end for Duke to win this woman's heart while trying to keep her out of Mathasis's hands.

This book, like previous installments, move the story of the Doomsday Brethren and evil wizard Mathasis forward. I love the series so that was a big plus in this book's favor. On the downside, I did not enjoy this installment as much as the previous book. Felicia was a strong heroine with plenty of fire and sparks but her whinning got on my nerves. I found myself wanting more of Shock, Anka, and Lucan. That storyline is due to come to a head. I am hoping the next book will bring us Shock's story. He is a puzzle.

If you are a fan of the series, you will find that all the ingredients you like are present in spades. Very sexy and bold. Mathasis is up to no good, again but that's what he does best. Bram is still looking for his missing mate. The next book is due in early 2012. I will be grabbing it as soon as it hits the shelves.

Minutes before her wedding to Simon Notham, Duke of Hurtsgrove’s brother Mason, Felicia Safford is questioning if this is the right move. She has just discovered that her future husband is in love with her and that was not part of the bargain! Whatever world is beyond planet TSTL is where this woman lives. I found her logic mind-boggling. That foolishness aside this was a very readable, very enjoyable installment of the series. This unique and fun series is reminiscent of Arthurian legends as it spotlights the decendants of Merlin & Morganna LeFay’s working through the magical artifacts left behind. As usual the story and writing doesn’t fail to draw you in immediately with romance, action & adventure. The books always seem to be just enough. Madman Matthias is still terrorizing the supernatural ton with his raping, murdering and pillaging as he searches for the powers that will enable him to put both the magical and human populations under his thrall. Shock still seems to be playing both sides against the middle so the other shoe has yet to drop in that regard. While both of those sentences give the impression that there is no movement that is just not true. Once again there were unexpected shocks, turns and twists throughout the various storylines so that they each progressed a bit.

If I had one wish for this series it would be for stronger females. All are not as in need of an overhaul as Felicia Safford, but I believe they are weaker than they should be. Without her I would have given a higher rating. However she will not stop me from anxiously awaiting the next series entry.

This book is about Duke and his HEA. I wasn't sure that I would like his book as well as some of the others since I wasn't really sure how I felt about Duke. He hasn't been as well rounded out as some of the other warriors in the story and he doesn't have the kind of lead in that created an interest in the other stories. However, I really did enjoy Duke's story. There wasn't as much interaction in a direct manner from our view point as readers with Mathias, but the underlying thread and reason for the series is still there and has direct impact on the HEA and the story line for this book. The story did move forward, though we didn't see much of the other warrirors overall in this book, when they did show up they had important and involved parts to play.

I truly love this series and am so happy that I have finally finished my re-read and can move on to the new book about Lucan/Anka/Shock! I've been waiting for this book for what seems like forever (as I am sure all the Doomsday Brethren fans have!) but was still very happy to have a good excuse to re-read the series (not that I really needed one. but hey).

3 1/2 stars. It probably would help to read the first books in this series before this one since there are multiple arcane rules governing the Doomsday Brethren's actions and the struggles with the evil sorcerers who are trying to destroy the Brethren and take over the world. This tale centers around Simon Northam, Duke of Hurstgrove who, although active in the Brethren, has not managed to inform his family that he became a wizard on his 30th birthday. The evil sorcerer Mathias needs an "Untouchable" to achieve his goal of freeing the wicked Morganna le Fay and it transpires that Simon's brother Mason is about to marry her. Felicia has no idea of her nullifying effect on magic, she simply never wants to be vulnerable enough to love anyone and has settled on a marriage of convenience to Mason. Unfortunately, neither Mason nor Simon is willing to allow this to take place but for entirely different reasons. Felicia must choose between them while Simon risks destroying his family to pursue his heart's desire as well as protect the person who could facilitate the end of life as they know it.

*REVAMPED JUNE 2012** Feliicia still annoyed me...Still love Duke! ***

3.5 stars

Duke, Duke, Duke.....Felicia, Felicia, Felicia

I was unsure how to rate this book. There were some parts that I really, really liked....and some parts that I struggled through. First off, I looooove Shayla's writing and the way she totally transports me into the Doomsday world. I think my issue was the inner struggles that the characters suffered. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for knowing details about someone before being thrust into a "mating", but at times I felt like it was a little too repetetive.

I really like the "Untouchable" aspect of the story. The fact that no one could use magic around Felica was great. It made the Brethren a little more "humanized". And I also liked the "Temple of Doom"-like challenges that they had to face.

I really was dissapointed with Tynan. I was hoping his heart would be healed.

Can't wait to read Mated and I can't wait, wait, wait for Lucan!!!!

Review: Entice Me at Twilight is an action packed, emotionally intense novel that will enchant the heart of the romance reader. Shayla Black has created great characters within a plot that will keep the reader deeply entrenched with the Doomsday Brethren’s ongoing battle against an evil sorcerer named Mathias. The building romance will touch your heart with the emotional turmoil that the main characters, Simon and Felicia, bring to life as they must find a way to outsmart the nefarious Mathias, while facing those feelings between the two lovers may prove to be the most difficult to overcome. Entice Me at Twilight has all the makings of a great story with action aplenty and a titillating romance that will warm your heart and curl your toes. This is another great read by Shayla Black that will be added to my keeper shelf. Enjoy!!

Special Notes: Although part of a series, Entice Me at Twilight will stand alone as a great read, but be ready to buy the previous novels in the Doomsday Brethren Novels by Shayla Black. They are sure to enchant the reader

I have been looking forward to this book as Duke has always been the voice of reason within these misfits and I wanted to see him thrown off, and boy was he. The woman that throws his sedate life into overdrive crazy is none other than his brother's fiance, the wedding itself becomes a battle ground.

Felicia took the news of wizards and magic in stride, not freaking out, which surprised me, I am not sure if I would be able to handle life altering info like that. The chemistry between Felicia and Duke was great, even when she holds herself back. I loved how all the other people in the Brethren chimed in on what was going on with the couple and giving them advice or just flat out telling them what they needed to do so that they would be successful.

The greater war with Mathias is still plodding on and the battle this time around seemed to be a draw, but the events of this book could have a big impact on the future and I can't wait to see what will happen.

Another fantastic read though some bits of the story are more enjoyable than others. If I have to ask myself why, I guess it's because the lack of Shock. I think he only made an appearance in the beginning of the book.

And the death of Tynan was a bit puzzling. As far as I'm concerned, Shock is part of the Brethren and even though he had hand delivered Tynan to Mathias to make his role as a double agent convincing, Shock's role in Tynan's death remained a mystery. I doubt Shock would just stand by and let Tynan be brutally killed.

As good as the story is this time, I find Felicia's back story a little weak to support her reluctance to open herself to love. i would even say it was a bit of an exaggeration.

The little preview we got for the next installment is pure love! However, I'm not a happy camper having to wait till 2012 for it to be released (>_<)

Well.....I'm not really sure how I feel about this book. I didn't love it, but didn't hate it either. I'm just kind of "luke warm" about it. I did keep turning the pages and read it in 3 days. Simon and Felicia weren't as passionate as previous couples. I think the length of time in which it took Felicia to open up to Simon "Duke" took to long, it seemed as if she would never let herself fall in love with him. The action with Mathias picks up in this book, and as usual there is more drama with Shock. The trip thru Moganna's tomb was interesting and the climax in the tomb was good. But the ending overall was weak. I'm not giving up on this series, they can't all be obsessive page turners and the sneak peek in the next book sounds really interesting.
