ABOUT THE SERIES Chasing Tyranny is part two of the series: One Small Step out of the Garden of Eden. The series, set five hundred years after the first Apollo moon landing, follows four young adults through their journey to find themselves and their place in the universe. The series is written for adults but has a PG-13 audience and can be enjoyed by ages 15 and up.
At the age of four, Robert Wagoner watched the live broadcast of the Apollo 11 moon landing. He then spent his entire childhood following space exploration and dreaming of being an astronaut. A native of the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania region; he lives with his wife and children in New England, where he works for a technology firm.
In May, 2009, he released Call of Destiny, the first book in a series called One Small Step out of the Garden of Eden. The series is about humanity’s struggles five centuries after the Apollo 11 moon landing.
But the storyline has its origins well before 2009.
In 1976 (when he was only in sixth grade), spurred on by his love of space exploration, Robert sat down in front of a manual typewriter he had received at Christmas and pounded out a simple, 117 page, single-spaced novel about an exploration trip to another star.
Of course, the storyline itself was very rough (the grammar too!), so he determined a year later to redo the story. Not wanting to rush in, Robert slowly developed the entire storyline over the next several years, being particularly inspired by current events and history, as well as his increasing understanding of the human condition. By age twenty, he had finished the plotline for the series.
However, family, career, and simultaneously pursuing college/graduate school pushed the series to the backburner. Yet the story remained a constant in his thought. In 1997, he picked up where he left off, penning the entire series beginning to end.
The second book in the series is expected to be released late this year or early next year.
I really enjoyed Chasing Tyranny. Robert Wagoner does a great job of making characters real. I liked learning more about characters from Call of Destiny (i .e. different situations bringing out different traits). This made getting into the book very easy. The new characters introduced were intriguing and kept me wondering what they were up to. But the character development of all characters kept the story moving along at a fast pace and kept my interest. The end of the book definitely piqued my interest in what lays ahead in the next book in the series. This is a good read.
After reading and enjoying Call of Destiny, the first book in this series, I started reading Chasing Tyranny to simply learn what was going to happen next. However, I was surprised how the story really took off! Chasing Tyranny is an incredibly thought-out, full-of-suspense, and rolling-with-emotion book. Great action woven together with deep insights into the hearts and motives of the main characters kept me reading almost non-stop until the last page.
I really liked this book. It broadened the universe of Call of Destiny significantly, and the storyline has expanded and delved much deeper. I am a fan of books that keep you guessing and look for you to read between the lines, and the plot twists and mystery of this book really appealed to me because of that.
Huge improvement on the sequel, storyline is intriguing and keeps you interested. Still plagued by authors poor style of backfill. Romantic elements of the story are much better executed in the sequel.
Captivating page-turner. Grabbed my attention from the beginning. I couldn't take it all in fast enough. Lots of unexpected twists and turns. Is lecturing the characters a bad thing?!
