Book two of the Custodes Noctis. More than a thousand years ago, the Hunt was founded to ride the Between World. Long believed a punishment for Custodes Noctis who have denied their destiny, the riders and horses of the Hunt became the stuff of legend and nightmare. Ten years ago, Galen Emrys denied his destiny in a desperate attempt to save his family-and the world. With his brother Rob's return they could face that fate together, but the past does not forget. The call of the Hunt is back, sounding clearly for Galen, and even as he fights the call, he and Rob discover that joining the Hunt-and possibly losing themselves to the darkness forever-might be the only hope they have to stop something far, far worse from rising and devouring the world.

"The Legacy" is a Supernatural-inspired piece of dark urban fantasy fiction about the reunion of two estranged brothers, but large sections of the book are flashbacks to the events that ultimately split the brothers apart. "The Hunt" shows Galen and Rob attempting to work together as a pair of Keepers and trying to live up to their legacy. Instead of flashbacks to the brothers' own lives, this book introduces the historical backstory of how the Hunt came into existence and morphed over time away from its intended purpose. In contrast to "The Legacy," most of the plot in this book takes place in the bleak setting of a small deserted beach tourism town (and the surrounding woods). In this way, it's decidedly less urban... and has more of a general fantasy feel.

But that in itself isn't necessarily a bad thing. What made this novel inferior to its predecessor (IMO) was ho-hum worldbuilding and a lack of interesting character development for prominent secondary characters (like Flash). The background of the Hunt and the history of the Keepers is were central elements to this book, but reading about them and learning the details from other characters that the brothers encounter was actually not very interesting and felt rather like a chore. I'm not quite sure why Rob's enthusiasm for historical sagas and lore doesn't convey through to the reader...

In addition to Supernatural and the Cal Leandros series, Katherine Kurt's Adept series also now comes to mind as being similar in some respects to this book but ultimately being a better read (some of the Adept books contain a huge amount of historical backstory). If you've read "The Legacy" and feel invested in Galen and Rob as fictional characters, this sequel is an okay follow-up. Otherwise, I don't know whether I'd recommend it...

Brothers Galen and Rob Emrys are back in this sequel to Muffy Morrigan's debut novel The Legacy - and what a ride they're taking us on! I was zooming through page after page as the mystery of the ghostly hunt and what exactly the brothers' role in connection with it is were unfurled, until the final climactic chapters had me holding my breath from suspense and surprise right to the last page.

The novel gives the reader further insight into the two brothers and their relationship (and, may I say, what awesome characters they are!) and at the same time expands the mythology of the universe of the Custodes Noctis series and of the Keepers themselves. In addition, the supporting characters are fleshed out even more (especially Rhiannon and OMG Flash - I love him!), and more are added to the universe. The writing is tight, the descriptions vivid, bringing the setting and action, characters and monsters vibrantly to life.

I cannot recommend this novel strongly enough to fans of urban fantasy - and anyone who enjoys thrilling action, a bit of mystery, engaging characters, snappy dialogue, solid mythology and, not least, a wonderfully depicted brotherly relationship.

I'm fully hooked - will be eagerly awaiting book three!

I finally finished The Hunt last night! Okay, that could be taken wrong. The reason why I'm so excited about finishing this book is because I have The Summoning already loaded and ready to go... yes, it's that good!

In The Legacy, we learn about the brothers Galen and Rob and basically what makes these wounded, prideful men tick. In case you're wondering... it's their special bond as well as their family history! In The Hunt, we learn that a decision Galen made years ago has dire consequences and it will take more than just their strength, Gifts and bond to defeat an evil that is determined to destroy the world (and has the means to do it). Trust me, it's not another run of the mill good vs evil, been there done that story. Ms. Morrigan has a way of ramping it up to the point that you're trying to guess what's going to happen next and in the next instant being totally surprised at where she's taken the action.

By the time I was reaching the end of the book, I was ranging between excitement and despair. If I didn't know The Summoning was already out, I could have easily thought... well, I won't ruin that part. Just know that it's well worth the time to get sucked into the world of Emrys. I hope you join me there soon!

This book is an amazing follow-up to "The Legacy". The brothers find themselves caught up in something older than they could imagine. They're unable to resist the call of the hunt that's part of their heritage, but has been changed down through history. It's up to the Emrys Brothers to try to return the event back to the way it was originally supposed to be.

This second book in the series continues the story began in "The Legacy"; members of the Custodes Noctis, Keepers of the Night. It's a gripping tale and I highly recommend it. Very enjoyable.

The adventure continues in the second book about the intriguing Emrys brothers, Galen and Rob. Galen's past is finally catching up with him, but Rob isn't just going to stand on the sidelines. We join the brothers as they are thrown into a battle of epic proportions, uniting old and new against the forces of evil.

I have to admit, I was a little unsure about this series when someone recommended them. However, I was surprised when I started reading. History and fantasy mix together, leading up to one of the best endings I've read in fantasy--urban or otherwise. I really enjoy her blending in actual myth in the modern world. I want more of this series!

Second book in the series. Also AWESOME. This series is different to anything I have read that I can recall. There is no love story, it's about family and what you would do for them.
It also has monsters and good guys and evil in it. Loving this series and now on to the next one!
