Alexander Roman wants nothing to do with the controlling rulers of his vampire breed or the family he escaped from a hundred years ago. But as a new threat to the pureblood vampires emerges, Alexander's ties to the past are forced upon him again, and without warning, he finds himself— disoriented, terrified, and near death—at the door of a stranger.
Fear is in the blood.
Dr. Sara Donohue is dedicated to removing the traumatic memories of her patients—like those of the stranger at her front door. But what he tells her of his past is too astonishing to believe. Yet she has seen his flesh scarred by the sun and witnessed his inhuman strength. And never before has she felt so connected to a man.
Love is eternal...
But as their worlds collide, Sara and Alexander are bound by something stronger, as one becomes hunter and the other prey.
I did enjoy this book. I was surprised since I am generally burnt out on paranormal romance books but it is clear that Ms. Wright can create an interesting story. Here, the two main characters Alexander and Sarah cross paths when Alexander shows up on her doorstep (literally). He has just gone into premature Morpho (turning into a mate seeking, blood ravaged, and sun-avoiding vampire) and uses Sarah’s shadowed porch for protection from the sun. Is it just a coincidence that he ends up at Sarah’s doorstop or fate? You’ll have to find out on your own. There is much more to the story than one vampire meeting one human female. It definitely confused me at the beginning but once I caught on to the names being used, it was a bit easier.
What I liked about the book- • The three brothers. Ms. Wright quickly establishes three very different characters but it was clear the brothers loved and cared for each other. • The story. The story was complex and different from every other vampire story out there. • The sex scenes. Wow, I can see Ms. Wright has some experience writing sex scenes because they are smoking!
What I didn’t like about the story- • The story. Yeah, I know. I have that in the “like” category above. Nevertheless, while the story is complex, it was also confusing. There was the Impure, the Pure, the Morpho, and the not Morpho yet, there is the Order and the little vampire communities. It was a lot to remember and I am not sure how many people wanting a PR will invest that much time into learning the background. • The cover. Dear Publishers, please get rid of these cheesy half naked man covers UNLESS 1) the man on the cover looks like at least one of the characters in the book (he does not), 2) the man on the cover fairly represents the species in the book (they are vampires, I don’t think a fence is going to hold him back) and 3) the man on the cover is wearing realistic attire (what is up with this waist high jeans with a belt of all things. You would think he would at least be wearing sexy hip hugging jeans that show off a six-pack. A belt, really? Come on, he is a vampire, he can use magic to hold up his pants!)
Read about 1/3 of it... Not even the pretty cover with Paul could save it. This book is very, very boring. The author keeps using terms that I still have no idea what they mean, the characters feel flat to me and I don't understand what the hell is happening in this book! I mean the heroine is a psychiatrist or smth that may or may not be able to take memories from people, the hero has gone through a transformation that we don't know why or how it happened, he ends up on her doorstep, she saves him by lugging him in her house, she's attacked by what might be a former crazy patient, the vampire dude saves her and then abducts her(for her own good, obviously). And that happened in the first 15% of the book. It's too difficult to try to explain the next part( and yes, I have no idea if I got it right)
substitute "people" with characters and it will be perfect
This was a damn confusing book! I read about 40% of it and I understood nothing, not one thing! Ok, I understood the "boy meets girl" part but the history, the background, it was all just so confusing! Ah, and 5 POVs (so far)! Usually, I don't like that. This book didn't disappoint on that account, I hated it. And the insta-love thing was way worse than usual. So... nope.
Don’t be thinking that this is just another vampire paranormal! Laura Wright has her own distinct voice that I really enjoyed reading. She’s got her world building in the palm of her hands and she knows how to conjure up some really great scenes! Let me get into all the things I loved about this book!
Firstly, I LOVED SARA DONAHUE!! There were several aspects about her that sparked my interests, such as her job, her brother Gray and her discovery of this unique vampire world. It’s rare for me to really like a heroine, especially in a paranormal romance series but I found that I instantly liked Sara from the get-go. Oftentimes, when reading about a character who is discovering a world she never knew existed, I get bored. It’s always the same “ooh, I can’t believe it!” reaction that results in denial, confusion and frantic shrieks of ...more denial! This is soooo not the case here! I loved that Sara had a backbone despite learning about an entirely new world. She was strong-willed and I really respected that. In fact, Sara remains to be one of my favourite heroines!
And then there’s Alexander Roman... I adored his alpha male possessiveness and dark sensuality. I thought the chemistry between him and Sara was great! *cough* shagging against the wall? Yup, you got my approval, Laura! Their relationship developed at a good pace but dare I say it? I think I loved Sara more than Alex! I know, I know, you’re thinking what the hell but I felt so connected to Sara. I would have liked to have read more about Alex’s inner thoughts, his yearning for Sara and his own personal issues with his family. I believe that these things would have strengthened who he was as a character.
What I really enjoyed about this book is Wright’s overall writing style. From the very beginning, I found that there was an ease to which she writes. There is no pulling or straining with her words and they just seem to spill onto the pages and write themselves. It’s clear that Wright has her own distinct voice as a writer and I really enjoyed it! I also really love her choice of names for her characters. The brothers have downright sensual names that roll of your tongue and even her secondary characters had unique names as well.
I also want to talk about the world building, because I really loved the idea of the “morphe” and “Shadow of Hollows”. However, I wish there was a glossary because all the terminology was beginning to confuse me. When you have to stop and think about what the terms meas as you read the book, it breaks up the flow and I think I glossary would have prevented that. Thankfully, I know that a glossary has been created for the next book! Woo hoo!
Overall, this book was a solid first installment in vampire paranormal series. It seems that I’m still a vampire girl at heart, because I just love these bloody stories!
This book has a guaranteed read logo on the back and let me tell you I back that guarantee. What an awesome read. I absolutely loved the main characters, Alexander and Sara but let me tell you the secondary characters where just as hot (Nicholas, Lucian and Dillion.) Tall, dark and dangerous is what Alexander is and his brothers are just as hot. Fast paced, dark, delectable, passionate and sexy as hell best describe this book. I loved it. Got hook right from the first page. GET this book, you're going to love it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
I don't know that Goodreads does 1/2 stars but if it did, I would give this book 4.5 stars!! I really liked this one but I'm not FOR SURE if I'd read it again. Maybe. Probably.
I've never read Laura Wright before. She was on my list of recommendations so I thought I'd give her a shot. Boy, am I glad I did!
Eternal Hunger is a paranormal romance about vampires (aren't they all these days?). One vampire family in particular. Well, brothers, anyways. The Roman brothers are tall, dark, handsome and menacing. There are three of them: Alexander, Nicholas and Lucian. We start off with Alexander.
Alexander is about to go through a change called the "morpho". Essentially, it makes him bigger, stronger and unable to go out in the daylight. He also has the marking of his true mate branded into his face and all over his body. As fate would have it, he goes into morpho right about sunrise, on the doorstep of Dr. Sara Donohue.
Sara is a psychiatrist. She works at a local hospital and one of her patients is her brother. When they were younger, she accidentally started a fire and her brother was hurt. His hands are burned pretty badly but he is sort of catatonic and doesn't speak. Not to anyone, not anymore. So Sara has made it her life's mission to heal her brother, Grey. She's trying to develop a way to remove traumatic memories but its slow going. She won't give up though, not until she saves her brother from his self-imposed imprisonment of the mind.
One day, she arrives home to find a very large, very handsome man, laying almost unconscious on her front stoop. She tries to revive him, thinking he's homeless or drunk but when she sees his face, she knows that's not the case. She hears in her head, a voice telling her to take him inside. She does but that's when trouble starts. A former patient of hers, Tom, is inside her home. She stopped treating him months ago because he developed an unhealthy fixation with her. He left dead birds at her house and shit. Anyways, he's been trying to call her almost daily, I think. Well, today, he's in her house and wants to hurt her. He roughs her up and punches her in the face, HARD. She's about to pass out and that's when this large man suddenly revives and comes to her aid. But what does he want? And what's on his face? Did someone do that to him? Why did he help her? And what happened to Tom???
All of those questions are answered in this first book in Laura Wright's series. It was so good! I don't know if I laughed out loud very much but the love story between Sara and Alexander is hot and sexy!!! Alexander is such a stud-muffin!! LOL! I really liked him even though he's kind of an alpha male. He wants to keep her safe and tells her what to do. Correction, he TRIES to tell her what to do!! And Sara is great. She's not stupid. She knows she's in danger and she's knows she should do what Alexander is saying but she also needs to go to work to see to her brother and his care. So she makes compromises. Simple. Common sense that is missing in a lot of these romance novels, I think. When she figures out what Alexander is, she naturally freaks out but we don't dwell on that and Sara gets over it pretty quickly, which I really liked also.
Overall, this was an excellent book! I have NO idea what it was about the sex scenes that were so hot but hot they were!!! I mean, my eyes are still crossed from the heat these two generate!!! Maybe its the chemistry? Maybe its the author's way with words? I don't know. But I seriously enjoyed this book!!!
Great start to a sexy new series; Eternal Hunger is definitely a new favorite!
I struggled at the beginning of the novel because everything is thrown at you all at once; new terms, meanings, ect. It would have been a big help if there was a glossary to use as a reference, but after the first few chapters I was able to get the hang of this new world Laura Wright has brilliantly created and the story started to flow for me.
Alexander Roman grabbed me right from the start. He is a sexy alpha male and the eldest of the three Roman brothers who escaped their credentis and the Order, making a life for themselves in the human world. Until the Order finds Alexander and forces him into morphing, a last phase in a pure blood vampire’s growth where he either has to find his mate or he turns into a sex crazed monster. Now Alexander must hunt down the impure, Ethan Dare, who is building an army against the Order, otherwise they will force his brothers into morpho as well. Sara Donohue, a doctor who has spent her life trying to cure her brother from the mental effects of a deadly childhood accident, finds Alexander on her front porch and comes to his rescue. When she walks inside her apartment though, her world is turned upside down by the revelations of an ex patient and the vampire now lying on her floor.
As the danger around them heightens so does their desire. Alexander knows though that he can not have a lasting relationship with Sara, a human, because eventually the need to find his mate will take over, so though he seems to have a sizzling connection with her he tries to keep her at arms length. Because of his childhood past he doesn’t wish to have a mate period and refuses to be dependent on one person so he eventually succumbs to the passion rising between them. I loved the chemistry between these two, though I guessed the ultimate twist for Sara early on and it wasn’t a surprise for me at the end. The dialogue between Alexander and his brothers was wonderfully entertaining and I liked that by the end Sara earns their respect. I have a feeling that there was a lot of foreshadowing going on for a few pairs of vampires and I won’t be surprised if things turn out the way I’m thinking. All the characters really captured my attention and I’m going to grabbed Nicky’s story asap. Wright pens a great background for all and unique world building, letting just enough slip at a time. I read Eternal Hunger in one sitting; I just could not put it down
Eternal Hunger is dark and sexy with captivating alpha males, strong women and an intriguing world of pure blood and impure vampires. Full of romance, hot scenes, action and suspense this is a must read!
I am truly debating on using the “Great Read Guarantee” that is mentioned on the cover of this book. The author does an extreme amount of conflict building in this book. The book is in fact over cluttered with conflict. One of the conflicts that was brought into Alexander & Sara’s romance was Bronwyn. She claims to be Alexander’s true mate. She claims to have proof, but won’t share it; everyone just takes her word for it. The way she shows up with this claim leaves me with the feeling that the idea was just tossed in the book. Bronwyn does have an interesting banter with Lucian. He hates her & all she represents. Lucian behaves like a grade school boy with a crush that involves hair pulling. I see these two becoming mates in a future book.
Both of the main characters are into self-loathing torture. Sara blames herself for a traumatic childhood fire that left her brother scarred. Alexander’s self-torture is just creepy. He locks himself in a cave-cage (it goes to really creepy when he is naked in the cage with a cow.) I did not find the sex in this book all that hot. I had some issues with the language used. It took the sex from potentially hot to vulgar and raunchy. We also have the bossy supreme vamps that boss our hero around & the evil vamp that our hero must kill. Of course our hero spends most of the book denying his blood thirst for the woman who he truly wants. We can’t have a vampire book without those factors.
I was very disappointed with this one. I wish I would have kept my receipt to use my money back guarantee. I love to read romance and paranormal is my favorite, I never read a romance in this story. I never connected with either Sara or Alexander, I never found the depth of their story either. There is sex scenes, I just couldn’t get into them for one Sara always gets into the sex but Alexander, he just doesn’t want a mate and he doesn’t want her, a few times he wont go all the way with her, so she was left with questions as why wont he go all the way with me. To tell you the truth I was saying to Sara “Forget the lug and leave!” Needless to say it just wasn’t hot for me.
I didn’t get a good feel of the story or characters and what’s up with Gray I mean stick someone in the whole book. but you never read him as in him talking or doing anything just staring and not talking, I didn’t get it.
There is a lot of words in the book that had me saying “I need a glossary!!” But nope it not there, so you never get to know what they are saying. I also found this to be cross between other vampire series with just some twist to the story. I would suggest to anyone if you buy this keep your receipt for the money back guarantee that way you can take it back if you don’t like it.
1. Sara is a recipient of oral sex on about ten different occasions, and yet Alex gets no pleasure whatsoever until the end of the book. She half-heartedly asks him about it, but it goes no further. Why? Not only is this unrealistic, but it's pointless. Is it meant to prove he's a martyr? Because he isn't. He's so selfish.
2. When Alex offers to cure her brother, she tells him not to because she thinks it means all the time SHE spent trying to find a cure would have been useless. Um, can you say selfish??? Ugh. No, I don't want you to save my bro because that would mean I'd have wasted my time. Um, come on. It's ridiculous. This is supposed to be a heroine we like?
3. Alex basically tells Sara: either I drink from this vamp chick or I die. And Sara tells him to choose death, because she can't stand the thought of him being with someone else - even though all he'd be doing was drinking from the woman's wrist. AND THEN Sara goes and kisses someone else...just because it's a woman, doesn't make it okay, especially since the woman she kissed is attracted to her, which - by the way - is stupid. I'm going to be angry if Dillon gets a book for herself with another woman, because that type of thing is not allowed when it's two men. Whenever a gay man gets a book, he suddenly turns straight, so either Dillon will turn straight, or I'll be pissed off.
4.Alex is a jerk. To everyone. He's so mean to Evans. He treats everyone like crap, even his brothers, and is extremely violent and unappealing. He's too possessive. He gives Sara's boss food poisoning just because the guy interacted with Sara. That's so pathetic. He's so selfish that he doesn't even want Sara to spend ANY time with her brother. He wants to control her life.
5. Sara is a pathetic weakling who does nothing to defend herself, only sits there crying while a baddie attempts to rape her. She's very selfish and when it comes to her patients, she picks favorites. Once she is going through her patient files, literally thinking things like, Yeah, yeah, whatever. Oh, okay, whatevs. Deal with that later. Blah blah blah. Who cares? And then when she gets to Pearl's file, she's all: "OH MY GOD I MUST SAVE HER!" Is that a likable heroine? And the thing is, I'd heard so many good things about Sara...they were all false. At one point, she tells Alex to be careful - not because she actually cares, but because she knows another woman would have to heal him if he did. She actually says this to him. Uh-huh.
6. The Pearl subplot? Who the heck actually cares? I mean, really. I couldn't possibly have cared any less about that weirdo.
7. At one point, Alex threatens to rip out her boss's heart if the guy ever looks at her again...and Sara gets turned on by this. I find that extremely strange.
8. I don't like this book. I don't like its characters or its plot.
I definitely enjoyed this first in a series featuring vampire Alexander Roman's evolving connection with Dr. Sara Donohue. Sara was smart, strong, and able to roll with the punches, and she was immediately likable and sympathetic. Alexander's unique physicality made him especially appealing, as did the interesting powers he had as a "morphed" vampire. The world building in EH was very interesting and spun a different take on vampires' role in the modern world. The sexual tension between the characters crackled throughout the whole thing.
Since this _is_ going to have sequels, here's some things I personally hope she'll further develop in the coming books. First, I would've liked to see more of Alex's childhood suffering, I wanted her to up the angst-factor with him; I wanted to feel what he'd overcome even more than I did. I wanted a bigger moment of him finally giving in, trusting, taking that leap of faith that someone wouldn't hurt him again. It fell a little flat to me, a little two-dimensional. Second, I wouldn't have mind longer/more detailed sex scenes, at least a few times. Don't get me wrong, they were good, but they almost always seemed to end too quickly. Part of it, I think, was wanting to feel more of the connection, the romance, between them. Third, this got better by the middle of the book, but the introduction of the vampire-specific vocabulary felt a little forced in the beginning. Presumably, having established a lot of this, it'll continue on smoother in the follow-on books. Finally, there were a few word choices that just tripped me up every time. While I *loved* the description of his eyes as cherry-black and/or merlot, the repeated description of hers as blueberry drove me freaking nuts! There were also a few squick-worthy sexual references, like his penis kissing her womb (ouch) and her nether region as a "mouth" (ew). Obviously, these are all highly subjective--one person's squick may very well be another person's turn-on.
I devoured the book--lured in by the molten-hot cover!--in a day and a half. When the last page ended, I found myself disappointed it was over and wanting more--so, in the end, Ms. Wright did her job. Recommend!
This book took me absolutely forever to finish. Two words describe this book. Boring. Predictable.
The beginning of the book is too confusing. And the writing is sometimes awkward, making it that much harder to read. It felt as if everything was explained to death, boring me to tears.
Also the characters felt very impersonal. I just couldn't connect with anyone. Not even a little. In parts it was so bad, I just didn't care one way or the other about what happened to the characters. The author never really takes us inside their minds, everything feels more external. It's more about what they see, feel (by touch), some vague thoughts - no real emotional connection.
I also don't care much for the author's quick use of the word "cunt" - it was used so much I wanted to send the author a thesaurus. It cheapened the story that much more. Also, the word "prick" didn't fit either. It was as if it was thrown in there just for the hell of it. I understand the book is supposed to walk a fine line between erotica and romance - the romance was weird and off-beat, and throwing in a 3rd party to "mix things up" was just...annoying more than anything else. I also didn't like that the heroine seemed somewhat indifferent to another woman vying for her man.
The climax of the book was on the flat side, and there wasn't one scene in there that made me hold my breath, reading on to find out what happened next. Yeah, very predictable.
The plot wasn't exactly original, and I guessed correctly all the way through what was going to happen next, and the outcome to the hero's and heroine's dilemma.
I'm not exactly inspired to read the next book in the series, but I'm giving the book a generous 2/5 review only because it had some original elements to it.
This is the first book in Laura Wright's Mark of the Vampire series. She has created a unique world and I had a hard time following it at first. So many terms and no glossary in book 1. I would suggest getting the glossary from book 2 before you start this series. That would have helped me keep all the definitions straight.
The story was very interesting and I loved the characters. This book set up at least 4 more stories that I want to read! I look forward to seeing what she does with this series.
SO... now for a brief rant. **GRAPHIC LANGUAGE WARNING** Writers should try not to repeat words or phrases throughout a book because readers pick up on it and they cunt seem to focus on anything else. Using a word once or twice isn't bad, but I cunt get things out of my head when I've read them over a dozen times. I know writers cunt always come up with a lot of descriptive words, but I cunt imagine this was the problem in this case. So that being said, it might be nice to remember your target audience and that many women cunt stand some vulgar words. And the ones who don't really mind the word, still cunt think of it as a sexy term.
ETERNAL HUNGER sucked me in and didn't let go until the very last page! I fell in love with Alexander, Nicholas and Lucian, the tormented, and sinfully sexy, sons of the Breeding Male. Laura Wright builds a fascinating world, her characters are magnetic and I can't wait for the next book, ETERNAL KISS!
If you are looking for a fast-paced, sexy and emotionally charged read, don't miss out on ETERNAL HUNGER!
I knew the moment I read the blurb that ETERNAL HUNGER could possibly be a new series for me to get addicted to with a fascination for three brothers. Alexander, Nicholas and Lucian took me into their world of the Credenti, the Impure and The Order. They are sons of the Breeding Male, rebels living outside the Pureblood society and go their own way in life. Now there is unrest with the Impure’s and one steps up and takes their issues to a whole other level. One that threatens the Pureblood race and in extension, The Order.
I admit I had to get in to the terminology of this new world but the author made sure each term is explained. It wasn’t confusing as perhaps it demanded my complete focus to keep up with not only the world building, but also the introduction of many characters, the underlying current between the brothers and the attraction going on full force between Alexander and Sara. Laura Wright didn’t ease me in to her story but rather pulled me in and let me immediately feel the dynamic storytelling she possesses. Every ingredient was present that blended together in a rich layered paranormal romance that kept pulling me deeper in to the story.
I will always have a soft spot for leading male characters with attitude and you will find three of them in Eternal Hunger. Each of the three brothers has a past that left emotional scars, it’s what binds them: blood, loyalty, and an ‘all for one and one for all’ mentality. I was enraptured by all three with their larger-than-life attitudes but Lucian was the one for me. Nicholas and Lucian are top-notch male characters who pique the interest to discover what lies beneath their attitudes and add that much more to this tale with their bantering. However, ETERNAL HUNGER wasn’t Lucian’s story, it was Alexander Roman’s and Dr. Sara Donohue’s.
Alexander is ruled by the blood hunger but due to circumstances he goes through Morpho and the instinct to find his true mate roars. A new hunger to deal with and though Alexander is tortured in various ways and has a gruff and growly side, there are also moments where his tender side take control. I found him to be the kind of leading male that makes my heart beat faster each time he shared a bit of himself in the story. He was all protective of Sara, dominant most of the times but the sexiness of his craving for her just made me long for ice cubes in one scene and in others it would give me a shot of pure romance straight in the vein.
Sara Donohue held a few surprises I could appreciate. She is a driven doctor out to find a cure for her brother’s traumatic memories, has an ex-patient stalker and a Vampire on her doorstep who just went through Morpo. She is bold, direct and I even got her feminine version of MINE in this story. Sara has spunk, no doubt about it, but there also pain in her past, shock in discovering vampires are actually out there in the world and a need to hang on to the normalcy of her life. She is just an all around likable heroine who also possesses backbone to become a vivacious opponent for Alexander.
The world building introduced me to The Order who irks me with the fact they seem all powerful and think they can rule all. The Credenti are very interesting as an almost Amish like society, holding on to the old ways, and the Impure promises to be quite the adversary. The plot has obvious story threads that are part of an overall plot arc but there is enough left to give ETERNAL HUNGER a satisfying ending. The romance was getting me hot and bothered at one page, to tug at my heartstrings the next, and the hunger Sara and Alexander emanate definitely delivered on some scorching hot scenes. This is a part that was rife with steep emotions ranging from desire to fear, from protectiveness to knowing their love was an impossible one. Once I was settled in to the world both plot and romance dynamic worked smoothly together and became an addictive combination. I was completely emerged and I wanted to know where not only Sara and Alexander, but also Nicholas, Lucian, Bronwyn, Dillon and Gray would end. The main and secondary characters all have a degree of importance and I really hope I see many return in book two of this trilogy.
In ETERNAL HUNGER classic paranormal romance elements meshes with a fresh and exciting plot and characters. I had not heard of Laura Wright before ETERNAL HUNGER but she sure made an unforgettable impression with her storytelling and her three Roman brothers.
Dr. Sara Donahue’s one goal in life is to help her brother Gray mentally recover from a tragic house fire that occurred years ago. Sara blames herself for this fire and Gray has never been the same since. She has become a doctor to try to cure him.
Coming home from work early one morning, there is a man curled up outside her door. Thinking he is a homeless man, she tries to nudge him out of the way. But she soon hears him speaking to her in her mind asking for help! Confused, and noticing his skin is burning in the sunlight, she drags him inside. But the drama doesn’t end there. A former patient, Tom Trainer is waiting inside her apartment. Tom is not right in the head, and has cruel intentions towards Sara. After he starts to attack her, the man she dragged inside wakes up.
Alexander Roman is a vampire, and one that has undergone the change or morpho 100 years early. He is now a Breeding Male with two key-shaped marks on his cheeks. This means he is no longer able to be out in the sun, but also has many special abilities. He wants to protect this female that helped him, but knowing if he kills Tom Trainer, the Order will be alerted, he has worked most of his life to hide himself from them.
This also means he must start to hunt his life mate. Alexander and his two brothers Nicholas and Lucian are Purebloods, and they have helped the Impurebloods (those with both human and vampire blood) escape their credentis, or vampire communities ruled by the Order.
Tom escapes the brothers, and ends up in the hands of Ethan Dare. Ethan is an Impureblood, but with the aide of the secret Superior One, has helped Ethan become more powerful. His goal is to now spread the seed of the Impurebloods to eventually overrule the Truebloods he so much despises.
Eternal Hunger disappointed me. I felt so many of the aspects of this book were not fleshed out as much as they could have been. The first 30-50 pages really held my interest, but from there on out, I had problems.
First I never connected with the heroine Sara. She is introduced to this vampire world and goes from not knowing they existed to living with them quite easily. Granted, there is a mad man on the loose to get her and she convinces herself they are the safest bet, but I never felt she belonged there with them. She meets Alexander who is talking inside her head, who is a huge male and has prominent markings etched on his face. That is a lot of a girl to take in. Alexander’s other brothers never seemed to take to her. While I enjoyed the brotherly banter between them (Lucian especially) I wanted her included more.
Her brother Gray didn’t add anything to the story either. The resolution of his problem came way too easily in my opinion and the revelation that occurs while he is being aided did not sit well with me. It is an easy way out for the problem of Sara being a human and Alexander being a vampire.
Meanwhile, Tom Trainer starts out as such a creepy villain only to take a backseat to Ethan Dare. And from that point on, the villains never show their face very much. The brothers hunt them, and they continue to escape, but I wanted more evil doings from them.
There are a lot of foreign words in this book – paven, credenti, veana, balas and honestly I was confused throughout. I am not sure why – using unique words in books is nothing new, but for whatever reason I couldn’t latch onto these. If there had been a glossary, it definitely would have been used.
This book just felt like the characters walked in and out with never leaving their mark. The only character I really liked was Lucian and his nonstop sarcastic remarks. Otherwise, I wasn’t impressed.
A new twist in this great tale of Vampires, true mates, and evil doers..jump on board and enjoy the ride.

Review of Audiobook format
My Thoughts:
Why did I wait so long to start this series? I have had both the Audiobooks and the ebooks sitting for a while just waiting for me to dig into and I kept grabbing something else to read/listen to...I have no idea.
I started to listen to this book because I enjoy the narrator who has done a good job on some of my favorite series such as Night Huntress. I was hooked 1 minute in. This is a great twist on the vampire story with strong dominate males and heroines with a backbone and not all angsty. This book touches on so many things, building the world, introducing both main and secondary characters, building a background so we can empathize with the characters. Having 2 main story lines going at the same time and not merging them until close to the end of the book. It was like getting on a roller coaster and thinking it would never end. I enjoyed Alexander and Sara our main protagonists in this novel. I found both likable and easy to identify with and emphasize. I also enjoyed Grey and the second story line and am anxious to learn more about him in further books. I actually found all the secondary characters compelling and a definite "carrot" to continue the series just to read about their stories. The general plot of the series is a wonderfully different twist on the usual vampire story. Although the "true mate" has been done before when you mix it with everything else that is going on it becomes fresh. I also liked that it didn't overshadow everything else that was happening. It was an element of the story but not the whole story. Refreshing! I can't wait to read the second book to see who's story we hear about next!
On a final note I must add that Laura Wright is a new to me author and the quality of her writing is extraordinary and I can't wait to research what else she has written.
This is a 4.5 star read for me and a strong recommendation to those vampire lovers out there to quickly pick up this series. Don't put it off like I did. *taps foot* so what are you waiting for...goooooo ...buy, download...and start reading right away!

Eternal Hunger is the first book in the Roman Brothers trilogy by Laura Wright and a Signet Eclipse Paranormal Romance.
Book Blurb:
Alexander Roman wants nothing to do with the controlling rulers of his vampire breed or the family he escaped from a hundred years ago. But as a new threat to the pureblood vampires emerges, Alexander's ties to the past are forced upon him again, and without warning, he finds himself - disoriented, terrified, and near death - at the door of a stranger.
Fear Is In The Blood
Dr. Sara Donohue is dedicated to removing the traumatic memories of her patients - like those of the stranger at her front door. But what he tells her of his past is too astonishing to believe. Yet she has seen his flesh scarred by the sun and witnessed his inhuman strength. And never before has she felt so connected to a man...
Love Is Eternal
But as their worlds collide, Sara and Alexander are bound by something stronger, as one becomes hunter and the other prey...
I absolutely loved Eternal Hunger. :)
Alexander Roman is the eldest of three brothers who escaped their abusive childhood vampire community and found peace living among humans - and off the radar of The Order - the governing body of the vampires.
When the unthinkable happens to Alex he reluctantly seeks council from The Order, only to be told that they require his help - and if he does not offer this help willingly - and succeed in the task they have set upon him in a timely manner - then the same fate that has befallen him - will fall upon his brothers.
Sara Donohue has spent her entire life trying to make up for an accident that happened when she was a child - an accident that resulted in the death of a loved one and the permanent mental and physical scarring of another.
Sara's world is turned upside down when she finds Alex huddled on her door step. At first she is wary - but then her doctors instincts take over and all she sees is a man in need. But the more she gets to know Alex, the more Sara realizes that she has needs as well - and Alex is the only one who can satisfy those needs.
I enjoyed Eternal Hunger very much and can't wait to read the rest of this trilogy. I am particularly looking forward to Lucian's story - because he is the 'bad boy' brother. :)
Eternal Hunger is book 1 in the Mark of the Vampire Series , by Laura Wright. Goodreads’ Recommendations on my home page pointed me to this book, which I have to say was a wonderful choice. Being a devoted PNR fan, I was delighted to read this refreshingly alternative view of vampire societies and characters.
The cast of characters were extremely unique and intriguing. The world building and cast backgrounds were exposed a little bit at a time until shocking revelations near the end of this fun story. I have to admit to a straight through read with anticipation of what’s the next piece. Laura crafted this can’t put it down saga to keep the reader entertained, interested, and reaching for the next element.
Having a background in medicine, I immediately was attached to Sara and her passion to help people. Alexander on her doorstep was a distinctive colliding introduction to the Roman brothers. Their purposeful separation from The Order, a manipulative vampire society, generated a lot of treacherous intrigue. The Order is under attack from a rogue vampire group headed by Ethan Dare.
The best part of this story is how many foundational pieces of background get exposed all the way to the very surprising ending. Of course the steamy factor contributed nicely. I don’t want to spoil the reading of this book, and would highly recommend it to adult PNR and vampire fans.
I’m off to get Eternal Kiss, the next book in the series.
Now and then an author will come along to “wow” me with their unique and different take on vampires; especially when I am feeling quite blah on the subject or that vampires are too over-done, too cliché. Eternal Hunger really ought to have a warning sticker. Warning, reading this book will cause you to neglect housechores, husband, children, pets, and the world as a whole. Because that is exactly what happened to me, I started EH and next thing I knew my hubby was chewing me out for neglecting house chores and supper. So, once I finished my chores, supper, I hopped on the interest, searched her on facebook, to tell her what an enabler she was! Friend loaned me the book with “MUST READ”. I will admit I picked up the book only to get it read and send it back to my friend. I went in going “Great, another stupid vampire book.” Talk about blowing my mind. But then… how could anyone resist the Roman brothers? Each one is different and manages to worm into your affection! Was not certain if I could like Alexander – yes he’s tortured, tormented by this new change in his life… and the balm that soothes the inner monster is Sara. Then there is what going on the sides. Luca’s tension with a certain woman. Sara’s brother Gray – who my heart went out to him. He is the ultimate tortured soul. But the ending, the twist that allows Alexander and Sara to be together, I approved of. Eternal Hunger made me anticipate the second book.
I have to start out by saying that I am totally in love with Laura Wright and the new vampire world that she has created. The Roman Brothers are dark, dangerous, secretive, devoted, protective and sexy as hell. Eternal Hunger is the first book in this series about the Roman Brothers... I feel in love with all of them from the very first page. Alexander is so dark and tormented by his past, present and his future... He is the head of the family, he has to be the strong one, the brave one, and the savior for his brothers...What he doesn't know is that his savior is waiting for him in the most unlikely place. Sara has a dark secret that she has been keeping for years...She has searched for years for a cure to help one of her patients that seems beyond help... She is strong, determined and willing to do anything to help this person. She could never guess in a million years that her answer to this question would land on her door step... When Alexander and Sara's world collide they learn the true meaning of trust, love, family and the willingness to do anything to protect these things... I am so happy that I found this series and I am SO looking forward to the continuing story of Nicholas and Lucian. You do GREAT work Laura~~~ You have me as a fan for life!!!!
I thought this was a good start to a new series. I kind of give authors some leeway when it's the first book of a series only because I know there's a lot of introductions (new world, characters, etc) involved. Eternal Hunger kept my interest throughout and made me want to read the next book, and in my opinion that means it was a success.
I like Alexander, but part of my issue with the book was that he wasn't as fleshed out as I would've wanted. What happened with him that caused him to be locked in a cage in the beginning? Who is Alexander, really? I felt like taking the time to build and explain the world caused Ms. Wright to not delve deeply into her main character. Sara was a little better fleshed out but not much.
It's really the secondary characters who caught my eye. Nicholas and Lucian are pretty awesome, and I loved how all the brothers were so different yet loyal and in sync with one another. I'm also curious about what happens with Sara's brother, Gray, in the future.
Although the ending seemed a bit rushed, along with the main characters falling a little short for me, this book was very enjoyable and got me stoked for the next books. Therefore, I give it a 3.5/5.
If you like a good old fashioned paranormal romance then sink your teeth (sorry, we had to) into this new fab series. As steamy as it is mysterious, the language and sex scenes can be rather choice at times, which seems like a very clever trick to hold or snap back a reader’s attention. The plot is as good as any other in the genre, with multiple storylines happening or budding simultaneously that begin to intertwine with each other.
Alexander is strapping, protective alpha-type example of the ‘perfect’ vampire, one that most women would want protecting them should the need arise. His brothers are not focused on heavily but all posses qualities that make you want to know more about the whole Roman family set up. Sara is your typical leading lady: ballsy and independent with a mouth to match, who will have you on side from the get-go. Although the book’s outcome is fairly obvious, it is an enjoyable read and the sex scenes make the journey awfully fun!

Paranormal erotica. Entertaining in the same way as a stereotypical Harlequin novel. It wasn't bad, but certainly not good either. The plot was actually half-decent, but very obviously just an excuse for the two main characters to 'get it on' as often as possible, and their relationship was so over-the-top unrealistic that it became plain ridiculous.
Had the author spent more page-time on the plot, and less page-time writing smut, it could actually have been an excellent book, as the genre does have its merrits. For an example of how it should be done, go read Bitten by Kelley Armstrong instead.
... and don't get me started on the front cover. Gah! I'm glad I had an ebook version of this and didn't have to look at it all the time, or it would certainly have scared me away.
This book took almost halfway before it became interesting, then it was great. Alexander has gone through the vampire puberty and is now a morpho. While going through that change, which means no more sunlight, he finds shelter on Sara's doorstep. She pulls him into the house which just happens to have an extra psycho patient in there wanting to hurt her. Alexander helps her out and is very attracted to her even knowing that now that he's a morpho, his true love has to be a vampire. There are so many series I'm reading, I think I'll just let this one slip until I can get back around to it.
I made it through what is probably the worst first chapter I've ever read (with so much flat-out info-dumping, you'd think it would be less confusing), through enough of it to figure out the world-building (highly derivative - think Larissa Ione meets JR Ward) and through enough internal and external dialog to conclude that all the characters are either hysterical or stupid at all times. Then, I got to the grossness. Focusing on the villains' sexual depravity is not something I enjoy reading about. I can do it if the payoff from other parts of the story make it worthwhile, but this... confusing, flat world-building and unlikeable heroes? No thanks. DNF.
Looking for a new vampire series to read? Well here it is!! This is a very enthralling start to a series. It has lots of action fighting and other kind, great characters, love and flows very well. The main female character is strong and independent which is a refreshing change. The eldest Roman Brother Alexander is amazing I love everything about him. The other characters you meet are just as good from the other brothers to the female vampire bodyguard. You like them all. With an evil person you never know what he is going to do. I recommend this to anyone who likes hot vampires and amazing women.
So, I've been I. A reading slump for a few months now.... No book has sounded very interesting that I hadn't already read & then, I wasn't in the mood to re-read anything either. This book had been on my TBR list for a while & one of my GR friends recommended that I read it, so I did. It ended up being exactly what I needed - just a typical vampire PRN with a HEA. Nothing weird, out of the ordinary or fancy... Just PRN & that's what you get with this book. Great read & I will definitely continue wi the series... Gotta find out what happens to the other two Roman brothers.
