As heiress to the MacDougall Clan, Lara, Maid of Lorne knows that when she marries it will not be for love - but never dreams it will be used as punishment. When Robert the Bruce takes control of her castle home, Lara is forced to wed the Bruce's man - Sebastien of Cleish. Loyal to her clan, she vows that she will not surrender to this bold warrior.
But beneath his chain mail and armor lies the heart of a chivalrous, brave knight willing to entice, to woo, to make Lara his true wife - in every way. Could the man who stole her virtue, her home, her family give her a future in his arms?

Terri Brisbin does a remarkable job bringing to life what it could have been like during the reign of Robert the Bruce. The heroine, Lara, believing that she is protecting her father's children, loses the stronghold to Bruce's men and is forced to marry his officer, Sebastian. Her father is captured and openly berates and disowns her. Lara must come to terms with her hostile feelings toward Sebastian and the fact that her father is not the man she believed he was.
When I first began to read I wondered how Lara was going to get herself out of her horrible mess. This extremely well written account of Lara's turmoil and the caring man who captures her family's castle will change her forever...
Not the best, not the worst. I liked the premise of the book but the female lead was too romance novel typical for me (not thinking clearly and constantly messing things up because of it) and started grating on my nerves. Still it was an easy read and I liked the twist at the end with Robert the Bruce.
I am so disappointed with the heroine. Deceitful, weak-minded not to mention stooopid ( there, i said it ). How could you only think of yourself? How could you endanger the lives of others just because you want a sense of belonging? Wasted two hours of my life reading this. I would give this book a negative star if i know how.
To me this was an interesting read, and I've liked all of the Terri Brisbin books I've read so far. I didn't like the heroine in this one though. I'd like to think if I were in her shoes and falling in love with a man like Sebastien, I would have confessed what I did before he went off to the last battle. Times were different way back then and I do understand her confusion, fear, and motivations. I liked the story for the most part, I just never warmed to Lara.
I didn't love it, but it was okay. 2.5 stars. I think one of Brisbin's weak points is her character development. I did not connect to any characters, I did not root for them and I didn't feel any substantial depth to them either.
This was a fast read which I needed at this point. I didn't have a whole lot of reading time to myself the last few days so it was nice to have a fun easy book to relax with during the few moments I did have to just sit by myself. The hero in this tale was a nice change from some. He didn't use brute force to get his way, he was content to leave the ball mostly in her court and let his actions show the kind of man he was.
A great story. I could hardly put it down. A knight, fighting for Robert the Bruce, is given a castle to hold, and the Laird's daughter to wed - or kill, if she refuses. She marries him but secretly meets with his enemies, trying to get him to leave her holdings. Meanwhile, everyone around her, comes to like him and too late she discovers that she loves him. But will her treachery cost him his life?

Another enjoyable read by Terri Brisbin. I do enjoy Scottish romances based on real events and real clans. This has a good combination of real historical events and romance. Just loved Sebastien. Felt towards the end the story felt like it wound up too quickly.
Just ok, not the worst. Uneven in some places, and wanting to create something that is just not there. A case of telling instead of developing, showing. Gave up somewhere in the 60% as i felt it was beginning to be a waste of time.
the begining was horrable. the way the hero treated her was nasty and i hated him. but as time went on and they got to know each other he inmroved. the heroine is a very local to her family.
