This book has everything you could ever want to know about the moon and anything having to do with the moon. However, there was some pertinent information missing:
1. The book has tons of beautiful illustrations, however, almost none of them are labeled with that they are, who did them, and why they are important to the subject. I often found myself thinking "What the hell is that?! WHY?" when viewing a picture in the book.
2. During the chapter on the Moon in literature, a huge amount of quotes from various places in literature having to do with the moon are included. However, almost none of them are labeled with the author and title. Yes, it does include a reference number to a list in the back of the book for that information, but it really, really takes away the enjoyment to keep having to find that information for EVERY single quote.
These two things appear to amount from pure laziness on the part of the author and the the editors. I was very disappointed.
Also, it's clear how much the author hates Christianity. Seriously, over and over she talks about the "repressive Christians" and the "vehement impositions of Christian dogma." It gets really old and it's hard to take the author seriously when she's using her book ON THE MOON as a platform to talk about how much Christianity sucks. Like, we get it, you can stop talking about it now.
Despite my oppositions, I still liked and enjoyed the book, mainly because it was a really interesting subject.
A beautiful book with striking photographs and illustrations, this volume is dedicated to the Moon and all her mysticism. I especially like the stories from other cultures.
