Jack Jack Jack *shakes head* It is hard to like someone who is not honest. And I do want to kick him in the nuts.

Rebecka, oh she made SUCH a mistake. Damn girl, that was so stupid. But 4 years later she is a widow wondering if she should have some fun.

They meet. There is lots of passion in their story. They mess up. There is drama. Dishonesty, me wanting to kick him in the nuts. But all in all, they do care for each other, but there is that one big issue that you know will mess it all up.

A nice story set before xmas. Not that much xmas in it, but hey still a xmas book.

Becky is still scarred from her disastrous first marriage that ended four years ago. She definitely doesn't want to get married again, or give her heart to another man. So Becky chooses to have an affair with notorious rake, Jack Fulton, knowing he'll never want to settle down. Jack feels tremendous guilt, but his life literally depends on marrying an heiress. How far will he go to get Becky, the Duke's sister, to marry him?

This story was definitely out of the ordinary, and I like how Jennifer Haymore pushes boundaries and introduces new themes. There's one event that I've never seen done in historical romance, and I have read a lot of historical romance!! Unfortunately, even though I appreciate the author doing something different, this particular event really made the book lose its momentum for me.

It was hard to get past the fact that Jack set out to use Becky for her money. But the beginning scenes were pretty suspenseful because you knew Jack was plotting something, but weren't sure quite what.

I really liked that Jack was obvious and blatant about his affection for Becky and he didn't give up. It's too bad his motivation was a little blurred at the start.

I really liked Becky's character in the previous book, "A Touch of Scandal," and I was glad she remained true to herself here. Since I did already feel attached to these characters, I got a little irked with one scene with Sophie still with both of 'her men,' Garrett and Tristan. Meanwhile poor Kate is at home, still playing second fiddle to Sophie. But, hey, that just shows how invested I am in these characters!

The story isn't really very holiday-inspired, even though the events do take place close to Christmas. And I did like how Jack sometimes called Becky "the Winter Queen."

This was a great way to revisit characters from the rest of the series, and the leads have a lot of chemistry!

*Note: Read and reviewed for The Season for Romance.

A Season of Seduction by Jennifer Haymore is the third book surrounding the Duke of Calton and his eclectic family. This book follows Becky (Garrett’s sister) and Jack’s story. Although the book stands alone very well, I highly recommend reading its predecessors because the heroes and heroines from the previous books will make several appearances in this one.

Lady Rebecca Fisk, better known as Becky, has been unlucky in love. At the young age of 18, she eloped with William Fisk only to learn that he was a complete scoundrel of epic proportions and she was nothing but a pawn to him. Now, four years later and no longer young and naive, she is contentedly single and decides that she is ready for tryst. She decides that Jack Fulton is just the man to take as a secret lover. He is incredibly handsome, charming, well-traveled, and adventurous; the perfect candidate for her sexual endeavors. Most importantly, he is as uninterested in marriage as she is – or so she thinks.

Becky, with the help of her friend Cecilia, thought she had it all figured out, but even the best laid plans can go hopelessly awry. Now with her reputation damaged beyond repair, she has to decide whether she’s ready to marry again because quite the contrary to her own plans, Jack doesn’t just want Becky to be his mistress but he wants her to be his wife. The dark past that he escaped so many years ago is quickly catching up with him and making Becky his wife would be the perfect solution. He must convince Becky to marry him before Christmas or his past mistakes may cost him his life.

Although Jack cared for Rebecca from the start, he finds himself falling more hopelessly in love with her with each passing encounter and yet she’s the one that remains aloof. Becky thought that she was strong enough to resist Jack, but she slowly realizes that he knows her and understands her in a way that no other ever has. How much longer can she hold on to her defenses? Through the act of properly courting Becky, Jack understands that his time is running out but that is secondary to his growing attachment to her. Unfortunately, that doesn’t change the fact that he’s walking a very fine line for he cannot let Becky discover the real reason for his initial interest in her.

Jennifer Haymore has done it again! She’s given us a story that is full of romance, passion, intrigue, and suspense. Even though this is the third in a series, she has a true talent for making each book equally engaging in its own right. This story is unique in that it is the hero who pursues marriage while the heroine remains distant. While I do not want to give away any of the plot or dramatic scenes, I will say that I was proud of Becky’s character. She possessed an inner strength, independence and fearlessness that I find somewhat rare in many Regency heroines. There were certain scenes where these traits really shined. Jack, whose interest in Becky was disingenuous at first, became really endearing when he put Becky before his own life. He proves himself to be a true hero with conscience.

The only areas in which I felt this novel fell slightly short of its predecessors was that the plot was not quite as complex and the villain was a bit weak as compared to the previous villain. However, having said that, this novel was still a joy to read from cover to cover and I highly recommend it to all lovers of romance!

Full length holiday historical novel, with an independent heroine, Lady Rebecca, and a super sexy hero. The chemistry and sex scenes between the two of them are super hot.

Disclaimer: I'm personally acquainted with the author.

One thing that bothered me a bit, was that the heroine was partially disabled, with a badly healed elbow from a broken bone that caused her pain and discomfort. Only this seemed to come and go... I didn't see it causing her any problems in the sexytimes, and it seems like it would have.

I really loved that the heroine was into sex, but wary of marriage. Overall, it's a fun read and perfect for the season, with a happily every after.

Star off because he didn’t get his arm amputated. Oh Nooooooo the thought of a disability!!!! Can’t have that. HAVE THE GUTS TO CUT HIS ARM OFF! Otherwise it would have been three. I’m not generally into regency/historical romances so this isn’t my general cup of tea anyway.

Ok I read 2 books by this author a couple days apart this week and I’m officially done picking up books by them now. 😬 I read the first in this series and then had this 3rd one that I was saving for a holiday read since it takes place in winter (which wasn’t as holiday-themed as I was hoping it would be). I didn’t like the first book in this series but thought maybe it was a case of the premise & characters just not working for me, but no this one was an equal unlike and it’s just the writing style that does not do it for me. Both stories I felt dropped into the middle of situations and relationships where the build-up would have really helped me feel for the characters. The conversations and character POV is very all over the place, I kept wanting more to happen or more to be said. Again I felt like the historical setting never made sense, this could have easily taken place in any time frame and didn’t feel tied down to the historical setting that I’m used to getting from reading HR. I was with characters who didn’t give me enough to care about them and a lot of unnecessary drama plots that could have been spent building up other parts of the story. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I did notice this series loves having people walk in on other couples in compromising situations/post-sexy times. So I tried for the sake of the gorgeous covers & stepbacks but sadly the writing style and story-telling is just not for me.

After the disaster of Rebecca's first marriage, she is now a widow and in search of a change in her life. Its been four years since she was married, and has hidden herself away. Now she is ready to enjoy life and desires a night full of passion. So she goes in search of a man that could meet her needs and will remain uninterested in marriage so she pursues him, but after sharing moments of pure pleasure with Jack, her brother and cousin burst in the room finding her in his arms, and a scandal ensues, for both herself and her family. She is devastated, and when Jack proposes to her, she doesn't know if she can say yes, even though there is a part of her that wants to. Years ago she made a drastic mistake in saying yes to the first man she fell for, and it ended up being the worst mistake of her life. So now, even though she wants to trust him, but knows she can't. But Jack is persistent and goes about trying to court her, because he has no choice but to marry her or he could end up dead.....so his life is dependent on her decision....even though he is clearly falling in love with her....A Season Of Seduction is the third book in the James Family series. After hearing so many good things about Jennifer Haymore, I saw this book at the library and just knew I had to try her out, and see what I thought of her, especially since it was Christmas themed in a way. I found that I just fell in love with this book, and everything about it. Its one of those you aren't sure you will enjoy after reading the synopsis, but give it a try and are blown away by how wonderfully written it is. From the first to the last page I was spellbound by this beautiful story of love, trust and sacrifice. I just loved both Rebecca and Jack. Jack is the kind of hero you just want for yourself. He is doing something he hates doing, but you can see he starts to really care for Rebecca even though he is after her money.....Rebecca has suffered a lot in her life, and is fully devoted to her family but then she falls in love and it turns out both of them learn much about trust, and I just loved the ending... definitely a tearjerker. Overall a powerful and sensual novel that will sweep you off your feet and into the horizon!!! A ENTHRALLING TALE TO TREASURE!!!!

his is a wonderfully fun historical romance. This is third book in her series, but I think it can easily stand alone. You will probably want to read the first two, A Hint of Wicked and A Touch of Scandal at one point or another since they are somewhat connected. Lady Rebecca (Becky) has had enough of marriage and sees no point in romance, she wants a fling. Jack looks like the perfect candidate for Becky, but Jack really needs a wife. So, you know where this is going. Except that Jennifer Haymore takes you through a pleasant journey to get to that all important ending. The writing really takes you to another place and time. I enjoyed this one a lot.

The first half was wonderfully written- the connection and chemistry between the two leads was fantastic. However when the crises came at last, the writing lost its sense of urgency and did not deliver the excitement or the angst.

I did not read any of the prior books in the series before reading this one, and didn't have any difficulty diving right into this as a stand alone, but I do wonder if reading the prior 2 would have helped me enjoy this one more, I'm guessing no, because the things that felt little meh probably wouldn't have changed with larger context.

This is a Christmas romance of the very loosest definition of that word. The book wraps up on Christmas Day, but otherwise it really has nothing to do with Christmas as all, and could have just as easily been set literally any other time of year.

Things I liked: This FMC took a note out of Jessica Trent's book, and if you know what that means, then you know its good, haha, I want to speak cryptically so nothing is spoiled. I do like that she endeavors to be as independent as possible and is a go-getter.

The MMC really botches a lot of things up in this book that some honesty would have fixed, which is not always my favorite thing. Especially since once the honesty happened and other people knew they were able to help, and then the problems were resolved pretty easily.

Still an enjoyable read, still glad I read it, but not the strongest or most favorite of books!

This was a perfectly average and okay escapist read. Likable characters, straightforward plot, although it's a bit turned around, as the main characters start off in bed and the courtship and misunderstandings come after. The most interesting parts of the book come near the end, however, with shootings, surgery, a cottage in Cornwall, and escapes on sailing vessels! By the heroine, no less!

Started out well enough and I liked the premise, but halfway-ish was getting repetitive and I struggled to get through the final quarter. When the climax and conclusion having you caring less instead of more, then there's a problem. Probably more of a 2.5 or even less, but I read the first 3/4 quite quickly...

Third in the series and a little more annoying than the other 2. Many misunderstandings between Rebecca, who.made a huge mistake in book one and had a very basic issue of trust, and Jack, who.is mysterious and not being honest. Many mistakes later, finally a HEA.

It's the holiday season in historical London so with that setting alone I made a cup of hot cocoa and settled into A Season of Seduction by Jennifer Haymore. This was my first read of Ms. Haymore's and while it is part of a series centered around the Duke of Caldon's family, the story easily stood alone.

Lady Rebecca Fist (Becky) is a young widow of four years and she has one thing on her mind. Free of a marriage that she wished had never happened, Becky aches to feel physically "alive" with a man again. Believing that Jack Fulton is a gentleman, with a hint of rogue, she singles him out for a mindless tryst knowing that he will not expect anything more. After the hurt and betrayal Becky suffered with her first husband, she has no intentions of opening her heart to another man, so Jack presents the perfect solution to her carnal needs. What Becky doesn't plan for is getting caught during an intimate rendezvous. Not wishing to consider marriage to save her reputation, Becky has no idea that marriage is exactly what Jack wants, but for different reasons. Jack is being blackmailed by a childhood friend and if he does not marry a woman with money to pay off his debt, his past will come back to haunt him in a tragic way. What Jack does not count on after beginning his courtship of Becky, is the fact that he truly enjoys her companionship and quickly forms deep feelings for her. Becky, on the other hand is trying every way in the world not to acknowledge her growing feelings for Jack. Once both admit their love to one another, Becky finally agrees to marry Jack. However, the night before their wedding, she overhears Jack speaking of the blackmail. Betrayed again, Becky flees London without telling anyone and travels to Seawood, her parents old home which has been abandoned for years. When Jack realizes that Becky is gone, he immediately believes she has discovered his betrayal and sets out to find her to tell her he has no intention of paying off the blackmailer and to convince her that his love is real.

Jennifer Haymore strikes a good balance of strength, sensuality, drama and intrigue in her characters as well as the storyline. Becky is an independent, fearless woman except when it comes to opening her heart to another man. And Jack, while strong and passionate, shows great sensitivity under his "rogue" persona. He quickly realizes that he must be cautious with Becky's feelings in order to establish her trust and all the while feels guilty for his ulterior motives in pursuing her. Despite these motives, as the reader I felt like I got a glimpse into his conscience and bit by bit saw the guilt and the reality of his feelings surface to where I was dying to know how he would get out of his predicament and have Becky as his wife. Jack, who quickly became my favorite part of the story, was a persistent man in learning who Becky was in every way. He recognized her intelligence, her knowledge and interest in medicine and put great thought into unique gifts for her during his courtship. Jack also made the effort to understand what went wrong in Becky's prior marriage and truly desired to never cause Becky that same pain and unfaithfulness. Becky, on the other hand, totally shocked me about three-fourths into the story and I actually did not know how they would make it past a certain defining and shocking incident between the two. While the ending was not a typical "packaged with a pretty bow" HEA, it was bittersweet and real due to the circumstances of the characters. The ending left me satisfied and pondering where Jack and Becky's new journey would take them. With enduring characters that exhibit strong chemistry, I very much enjoyed Ms. Haymore's unique and engaging style and look forward to reading the other books that are a part of this series.

Favorite Quote:

"He slipped a finger inside her, and she sucked in her breath and pushed her forehead onto his shoulder. She trembled as he moved inside her, learned about her most secret places, her unspoken desires, the places that made her sob with a need for release."

What a lovely wrap-up to a beloved series. Jennifer Haymore is my hero! Seriously. Although I had read historical romance in the past, when I read the first in this series, A Hint of Wicked, in mid-2009, I truly fell in love with the genre. Then came A Touch of Scandal which I've read various times since I originally read it earlier this year. And now, A Season of Seduction, well, it's like the icing on the cake.

A Season of Seduction is Becky's story. Now if you've read the previous books, you know Becky has been in and out of trouble for most of the series. What with her eloping with that conniving scoundrel William Fisk, only to be used and mentally abused by him in order to take his revenge on her beloved brother. It's now been four years of her widowhood and she has finally decided to take a lover. That's where Jack Fulton comes into play. See Jack is handsome, charming, smart, he's a sailor and has traveled around the world. He is perfect to play the part. But Jack has his own agenda (ugh men!). Lady Rebecca is beautiful, wealthy, intelligent, wealthy, spunky and wealthy.... and that's exactly what he is looking for in a woman... her wealth. But Jack doesn't want an affair, he needs to marry Becky and he must do so by Christmas. Jack desperately needs her fortune, but in his pursuit of her, he'll come to realize that love is the greater prize.

Becky was everything that I love in a heroine. Although she is fragile and obviously is suffering from trust issues, she is also brave, tough (I mean, the girl will shoot you if you mess with her!), she's faithful, witty and spunky. Jack - although I did have a hard time warming up to him at first - because you can't help but want to protect Becky from him, surprised me in how much I really ended up liking him. Although his feelings for Becky started off in more of a sinister way, they quickly became true and I ended up falling for him just like she did. I loved how we got to see glimpses into the lives of the couples from the previous novels and how Garrett and Tristan were always barging into a room in order to save Becky. These barging in moments were very reminiscent of scenes from the previous novels and always brought a smile to my face.

I also loved that Christmas played a part in the novel too. I think this would be a lovely book to spend some time cuddled with within the next couple of months, although you can still enjoy it any time of the year.

For those of you wondering if this novel can be read as a stand alone, it definitely can be - although there are a few cameos from the couples from the previous novels. I personally recommend that you read them in order... well, because they are phenomenal. I am seriously considering reading all three of them back-to-back - they're that good.

Ms. Haymore has done it again! She not only brought characters that I was pained to finish reading about, but she created a whole series that I am 100% in love with. I can't recommend it enough. A must-read for romance fans.

Bundle up with a wonderful romantic book this holiday season

Lady Rebecca Fisk was a widow looking for a little adventure and adventure was exactly what Jack Fulton needed. Added to the fact that Becky was beautiful, intelligent and rich help Jack justify what he was about to do and the scandal he would create. He was a man with a problem and all he needed to do to resolve his looming problem was to marry into money. He tried to convince himself that he only wanted Becky for her dowry because right now that is what would give him a ticket to freedom but something else was drawing him to her that he could not identify and scared him to the bone and made him want no other woman just Becky.

Becky had been duped by her late husband and lived with the misery that relationship brought and knew better than to trust anyone but her family ever again. But one taste of Jack’s sweetness and she realizes that she will listen to the plan he is devising and may just take a leap of faith and trust him. Yet how far will she let this go and will he convince her that marriage is the respectable resolution to the issue they have created? Jack is saying all the right words and makes more than the correct gestures to woo her but she had suffered emotionally and physically while married to her late husband and to this day bears the scars and damage he wrecked upon her body and soul.

Jack has known suffering as well through the loss of family and young love but he still needs to grab onto that one person that can put a salve on his heart and help him love again and Becky may just be the one he has searched for. He does his best to get his way but every time he gets close to sealing the deal another disaster looms over their relationship slams the door on any happiness. Still Jack hopes this will work out as he plans and spends his time trying to make Becky see that even with his past indiscretions that their life together will be filled with joy and no secret will be held back.

Each time Ms. Haymore writes a book in this series I think there is no way to top the one I just finished. I started this latest one and realize she has done just that and has proven to me how fresh this series can remain. The characters of Becky and Jack are so full of life and longing just trying to make the right connection between family, relationship and future happiness while figuring out who to trust with all their secrets. This is a wonderful story and while I recommend reading the 1st two it is not imperative as Jennifer Haymore is a magician at connecting the plot from one book to the next but trust me you will have to buy the first two they are that good.

I won a copy of this through Goodreads First Reads

Our heroine, Becky, had a really awful first marriage -- she eloped with a man who turned out to be completely different than she'd first thought, and after her husband died, she retired to the country until the scandal died down. Now, four years later, she's back in London.

Our hero, Jack, was also involved in a scandal many years ago, and had left London for twelve years. Now he's returned, and due to forced outside of his control, he's being forced to marry before Christmas or he will quite literally die.

What worked for me:
*I adored the fact that Jack originally approached Becky, and set her up for ruin to force her to marry him, and then ended up truly falling in love with her.
*I loved loved loved what happened at Becky's country estate. Sometimes I wish more heroines would take that type of action when someone has hurt them, rather than just simper and sulk.
*I liked the fact that even though this book is part of a series, it was easily read as a standalone. There are quite a few spoilers, it seems, for past books, however, so if you want to read the series, I'd still suggest that you read it in order
*The UST was completely divine
*I loved Becky's attitude toward scandal when it applied to her.

What didn't work for me:
*Becky's family irritated the bejeezus out of me. They were kind and loving, but they were also very smothering. And I truly, TRULY, wanted to smack her brother in the beginning. Hard.
*I didn't care for the ending. It was a fitting end, but not the traditional "HEA" that I was expecting.
*I felt like the Bad Guy got off a bit too easily.

I really wanted to know what was up between Rebecca's best friend and Jack's best friend. I felt like there was a sequel developing, though perhaps the history of that was explained in an earlier novel.

Overall, a very enjoyable read. I don't typically go for the "experienced heroine" type story, but Becky, though previously married and not completely ignorant of the pleasures of the marriage bed, still came across as a bit of an innocent rather than hardened and cynical, despite her reserve towards marriage. I'm kicking myself for having waited this long to read it. My only excuse is that it was an analog book and I'm more of an eBook reader.

A very solid 4 Stars.

A Season of Seduction is the third book in Ms. Haymore's Tristan Family series. I read the 2nd book, A Touch of Scandal (my review here), and really liked the heroine of this book, Rebecca.

As the story opens, Lady Rebecca (Becky) is about to embark on an assignation with Jack Fulton, a sailor recently embarked in London, whom she's become almost intimately acquainted with. Whom she wants to be intimately acquainted with. After the death of her husband four years ago, Rebecca hasn't wanted anyone like she wants Jack. She knows it's improper, but with the help of her dear friend, Cecelia, she's arranged to be with him tonight - alone. Things are moving right along, and then...her brother bursts into the hotel room and catches them, undressed and in bed together! Of course there's an audience to her disgrace, and she knows propriety dictates that she accept Jack's proposal of marriage. The problem is, she just can't do it.

Lady Rebecca's last marriage was so horrible, she doesn't ever want to be married again. He wooed her and convinced her he loved her, then planned to kill her for her money! She never wants to be dependent on a man again. What she doesn't know is that Jack needs to marry her because he is being blackmailed; he needs her dowry. He's got a history he's briefly told her about, but didn't give her all the facts, and is trying to manipulate her into marriage.

I enjoyed A Season of Seduction, Ms. Haymore's writing is descriptive - I could picture the events as they were unfolding. I liked Becky, and I wanted to like Jack, but I just couldn't. He was earnest and he loved her, but when you got down to it, he was using her. I was frustrated that when he finally decided to tell her the truth, his first thought is that his family would help him with his "issues" - that seemed kind of smarmy to me.

My feelings about the hero aside, it was a good story. Becky was a sweet heroine, and it was nice to see the characters from the previous book. (It can definitely be read as a stand-alone though) We met some new characters, Becky's friend Cecelia, and Jack's friend, Lord Stratford, whom I hope to see in the next book :)

This is a delight that will tickle your Christmas fancy for sure. Lady Rebecca and Jack make wonderful character partners and they keep the story innocent and deceptive at the same time. Jennifer Haymore did a phenomenal job on this story line and I'm so glad I got the chance to read it.

Lady Rebecca has been in widow's weeds for long enough now and decides she would like to have a relationship without having all the mess that comes with one. Actually it's more of a tryst here and there and she's not sure if she wants to have just one man or a couple different ones for a change of scenery so to speak. The Lady's husband had been a wonderfully generous man and good to her but he had one foot in the grave even before she met him. What do you say ladies, a rich man with one foot in the grave. Hmmm......yah my type of marriage if I was going to go that route again. :)

Jack Fulton is the Adonis of all male creatures and swings heads no matter where he goes. He could have his choice of any female willing or not quite willing to warm his bed but he sets his sights on the Lady Rebecca for all the wrong reasons for her good. Too bad the Adonis feature has to be such a two timing scuz bucket.

The story starts out innocently for Lady Rebecca and she is quite nervous since this is not exactly something the ton would approve of if they got wind of it. Jack sets his marbles in motion even before the story starts so that when the going gets mighty tasty he will hopefully have all those marbles falling in the right places. It does take some time before Jack gets a conscious and realizes that to hurt Rebecca would be like stabbing himself in the heart. Let's hope he can keep the angel on his shoulder pushing him in the proper direction before the devil on his other shoulder catches wind of things.

As with all things, karma has a way of throwing in a monkey wrench and screwing up even the best laid plans but the million dollar question is who's plans will be the ones that will make the upcoming Christmas Holiday a nightmare to remember!

A Season of Seduction by Jennifer Haymore
Historical Romance- Sept 28th, 2010
4 stars

The widowed Lady Rebecca’s previous marriage has left her heart broken and afraid to trust again. But, Jack Fulton, a sailor and son of well-known public minister, has his eyes set on Rebecca. Jack doesn’t want an affair with the mysterious and beautiful Lady Rebecca. He wants to marry her, and he must do so by Christmas or his life is will never be the same.. Jack desperately needs her fortune to redeem his life, but in his pursuit of Lady Rebecca, Jack realizes that love is the greater prize...

The star of this book is undoubtedly Lady Rebecca, or Becky as her friends call her. Quiet and emotionally fragile, it is a great pleasure to read her slowly trust Jack, even though we wish that she wouldn’t. Haymore deftly fleshes out Becky’s personal struggle to trust another person outside of her family circle and how she must learn to forgive herself for her previous marriage. Jack is not as emotionally rich as Becky, but nevertheless, he does have a great back story that leaves you wondering what is going to happen next. Did he or did he not kill another man? What happens if he can’t marry Becky by December? It almost feels like Jack is the brain/action of the book, while Becky is the heart of the novel. Haymore is a talented writer to be able to balance these two elements so seamlessly in the novel.

Another high point of the book is the ending. While most romance novels strive to give us a happily-ever-after with a neat little ending, Becky and Jack’s ending is a tad bittersweet. Unfortunately, I can’t explain further without spoiling the ending, but it makes sense and ends the novel in a realistic and touching way.

Overall, A Season of Seduction is well-written, enjoyable historical romance that is definitely worth reading. Even though this novel is related to her other books, it can easily be read as a stand alone.

A SEASON OF SEDUCTION by Jennifer Haymore is a delightful historical romance set in 1827 London. It is well written with depth, details, page turner, and full of action. It has romance, intrigue, adventure, action, passion, secrets, betrayal, sensuality, trust, facing your past and moving toward your future. The hero, Jack is handsome, an adventurer, a playboy, has a dreaded past, being blackmailed by a so called friend, and needs the dowry of the beautiful widow, Rebecca. The heroine, Rebecca, is a widow, beautiful, been emotional scarred, wants a grand romance, wealthy, intelligent, and doesn't want to get married again. ENTER...Jack who is convinced he only wants Rebecca's dowry. He soon realizes he is actually falling in love with her but he must have her dowry to stay alive before Christmas. Rebecca although a scandal has occurred between she and Jack has refused his marriage proposal. He woos her with pretty words and gestures until she agrees to marry him for she has fallen deeply in love with him. She learns the night before her wedding day of his betrayal and decides to run away to her mother's family home. Jack in the mean time go to his blackmailer and tells him he will not betray Rebecca he will face his past and the consequences. When he arrives at Rebecca's he learns of her disappearances and is determined to find her, tell her the truth, for he has also fallen in love with her. What happens his truly amazing, he gets shot, nearly loses his life and limb. In the end the truth will prevail. This is a wonderful, delightful story of trust, betrayal, truth, facing the past, the consequence and finding true love. I would highly recommend this book especially if you enjoy a truly great story of love and faith. I would also recommend her other two books A Touch of Scandal and A Hick of Wicked, for they are in reference to the same family but all can be read as a stand alone. This book was reviewed for review from the publisher and details can be found at Forever an imprint of Grand Central Publishing and My Book Addiction and More.

I love historical romance novels and was very excited to receive this from Goodreads. Although this book is part of a series it can be read alone without major spoilers, which I consider a huge plus. I won this book in October but waited until December to read it when I was actually in the holiday spirit. I wouldn’t recommend this as a beach read, but it’s the perfect novel to read while drinking a cup of hot chocolate.

The romance between Rebecca and Jack was already in progress when the book began but it was still fun to watch it evolve. Rebecca is just looking for a fling but Jack needs to marry her so he can get access to her money, since he’s being blackmailed. This should make him unlikable but deep down you can see that he has a good heart, even though he’s a rogue. Jack and Rebecca arrange to meet at a hotel for a secret rendezvous but get discovered by her brother and half the ton, which of course turns into a huge scandal. Everyone expects Rebecca to accept Jack’s offer of marriage since she has disgraced herself by having an affair, but being a widow she doesn’t care much about her reputation. Jack spends most of the book trying to win Rebecca’s heart, along with her hand in marriage.

I liked Rebecca’s stubbornness and independence. She was a woman of means and didn’t necessarily want to be tied down again since she’d already had the experience of marriage. Jack wasn’t my favorite but I’m pretty picky about the guys I like in romance novels. They have to be really impressive for me to fall at their feet and swoon. I’m eager to read the previous two books in the series about Rebecca’s brother and his wife, Kate. I saw them at Half-Price the other week but ended up putting them back on the shelf. Might have to get them next time.
