📕 Why (Not) to read this book (Target Audience)

Good book when you are seeking a very strong energy and determination to achieve a goal or satisfy a need.

👀 How this book changed my daily live (Takeaways)

Your work, the daily activity you engage in for a majority of your waking hours, matters immensely. It shapes who you are and how you view yourself. The daylong toil will shape you, for better or worse. Don’t take it lightly as just something you do to make a buck.

⁉ Spoiler Alerts (Highlights)

You can theoretically “do anything,” but you won’t do everything well. Your specific makeup of drive ingredients is unique and finite, which is a good thing. Being told you can do anything and have no limits is errant and demotivating. You have specific propensities and the ability to be masterful with them. But it’s not unlimited.

I started reading this at work in an effort to kill time during a slow day, and I DNF'ed it almost immediately. The reason is that this author's commentary on certain "types" of people- namely, those with mental health issues and those who struggle with addiction- is absolutely gross and condescending. If I wanted to be preached at under the guise of "self improvement," I'd go to church. DNF.
