Wait! This is it? The last book? The last story in this magical land? :'( I need more!
This has been an incredible journey and I am truely thankful to Chris Colfer. I doubt he'll ever read this but: Thank you, Chris. For giving us these amazing characters, this amazing world. Children's book that are also highly enjoyable by adults and have magic alongside with diversity and deal with stuff like mental issues and standing up against tyrants and bullies... I do not remember having those as a kid and I cannot wait to place a copy of these in the hands of every kid in my family (and their friends if possible). I felt so at home in these books.
So thank you, Chris. For sharing your amazing talent with us and giving us characters like Brystal and her friends (as well as Aley and Connor and all the others).

ok i liked this one the best of the trilogy so far! this was so good and the action and the high stakes and the characters

and XANTHOUS—my baby found himself a man *cries*

anyways i hope this series continues but i’m also satisfied where this book ended. but i feel like we need something else to bridge the gap between this and los
also i’m confused on one part. overall i really enjoyed though!! 🎀🩰

🚨 SPOILERS AHEAD 🚨

i’m putting an extra line of words here before the actual spoiler because if you’re like me you’re eyes will accidentally look down here and you’ll spoil yourself even though it says spoilers because for some reason my eyes do that so hopefully this helped someone and so anyway did the snow queen die or not? because she’s alive in los but i’m pretty sure they just killed her…is there two snow queens? i’m confused xx

I'm really excited for this to come out... my guess is that, with A Tale of Magic being mostly set on Brystal, A Tale of Witchcraft set mostly on Lucy(although since Brystal is the main character, it's still about her), that A Tale of Sorcery will probably be mostly set on Xanthous. Which also means there's probably a lot more books to come. I can't wait!!!!

Back for another Chris Colfer novel, I relaxed my views and plunged into another young adult story. Colfer uses his phenomenal imagination and some interesting plot lines to provide the reader with vivid imagery in a world far from our own. The third in the series, Colfer has been able to build on the themes from the past novels and sets the groundwork for what could be another book in the series.

Time is not on Brystal Evergreen’s side as she has yet to fulfil the promise made to Death. Seeking the Immortal to save her own life, Brystal works with her fellow fairies to locate the evil being, with little luck. There is also another evil menace lurking around them, one that presents itself in the form of fire and destruction.

When Xanthous Hayfield discovers the root of this evil, many presume that he is part of the group, as his specialty is fire, which begins raging around the Four Kingdoms. With Xanthous on the run to keep himself from being captured, Brystal works with a select group of others in the kingdoms and territories to locate her friend. They re sent on a mission that could be full of danger, but an especially secretive group of sorcerers promises their help, keen to learn more about Xanthous and his abilities. Brystal wonders if it’s too good to be true, but has such a trusting heart.

Brystal begins this epic journey, learning a great deal about herself and those around her. She worries for Xanthous, who has not had an easy life himself. It will surely be a challenge to set the record straight, while still looking for the Immortal to save herself. Brystal makes a number of new friends, while also finding new enemies along the way, in this great addition to the ‘A Tale of...’ series. Colfer at his best in another novel that let me rest my brain.

While I originally started reading these books with my son, I found them captivating enough to want to continue on my own. Neo is always eager to have me read them, so that we might discuss them together. Colfer’s imaginative style of writing pulls the reader into the middle, while also providing a key exploration of social themes prevalent to the young person of today. I am eager to see where the series is headed, while also learning more about Brystal Evergreen and her close friends.

While young adult and fantasy are two genres I do not read a great deal, I always find myself enjoying the work of Chris Colfer. A little silly, a tad out of this world, but always grounded in social and societal analyses that is aimed at the young person, Colfer creates something well worth the reader’s time. The narrative flows well and keeps me on my toes as I am immersed with a number of well-described character, each with their own personality that comes to the surface. Colfer does well to keep things light, with a peppering of evil goings-on, as is typical in something fantasy-based. Strong themes and plots emerge throughout, providing the reader with some time to wonder, rather than predict everything. I was quite impressed with the topics Colfer tackles herein and am pleased that Neo had the chance to read about them as well. Now then, Neo awaits me to talk about the book and where we want things to go in the next piece.

Kudos, Mr. Colfer, for another winner. You’ve come a long way since I first discovered you on a television program.

Actual rating: 4.5

I am so sad that this seems to be the last book in this comfort series and comfort fantasy world of mine. There is something about the way Colfer's stories are straightforward, humorous, and wonderful that I haven't quite found in any other middle grade fantasy. They truly capture the magic of childhood and the imagination that enables it. These books have been equal parts easy to read and utterly delightful and I will forever consider myself lucky to have discovered it.

4.5 Once again another book in this series devoured!

As with all of his books Colfer employs a strong sense of morals and life lessons which are instrumental for children to learn, as well as adults. Humanity was really highlighted, the good, the bad, and what can make it better. Environmental issues was also raised and it married perfectly with issues of mankind. I strongly urge younger readers to read Colfer's books to showcase how we can become better and protect the planet. Kindness always wins.

The world continues to expand with Colfer's imagination, the characters continue to grow and remain true to themselves. I loved the inclusion of LGBTQI+ relationships within teenagers, and that it's targeted at a younger audience. We need more representation in middle grade novels. Ryder and Gobzilla are fantastic and lovable as new characters.

Would have liked to have seen Coral introduced and Rosetta re-introduced in the Fairy Council, as well as other familiar characters that could have been incorporated. If this is the final book then it leaves a bit of disappointment in that regards, but if it's not then there is plenty more to discover. But in saying that surely it cannot be the last book as there are still some questions to be answered to tie it together with TLOS

There's plenty of action, cute romances, jaw-dropping mysteries, tenacious heroes, evil villains, and an abundance of magic that conjoins science and sorcery to create a whole new magical tale.

WARNING, CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM THIS BOOK: Wow…this book mind my mind swirl with so many thoughts. This thought-provoking novel with magic it’s way into your heart. I need more!!!! Please have a book four, Chris! The fairy council’s adventures are back. The plot was a little unorganized, BUT overall this book was just amazing. Xanthous is my absolute favorite character and to discover he is queer, well just made me so happy. Him and his crush are adorable, sneak holding hands under the table. His friends support is so wholesome and pure too! Just fabulous to finally get a queer and fantasy book packed into one. Dragons were also a huge part of this book and all of the dragons were so cute! They might seem big and scary, but these creatures melted my heart. New characters such as Elrin, Spanky, Butternut, Ryder, and Gobzella entered this story with pizzazz. Gobzella is the definition of awesome. She’s a literal queen. Love her so much! This book was a little darker than the past; they’re were many sad deaths that really crushed me and were totally unexpected. Darkness lurks in unexpected corners as this reveals. Finding the evil in good, but also finding the good in evil. Trust me, this book is totally and absolute worth reading. And re-reading at least a few times. Meet new villains and old, as the battle between the lovable fairy council and villains begin. The fairy council is so pure and just wonderful to follow their stories. A must-read.

Edit #1: IT CAME AND OH MY SOUL IS JUST FLIPPING OUT ITS ✨BEAUTIFUL ✨

Honestly, can we all agree that mr.colfers books have the BEST covers ever? I mean cassie’s are up there too, but these are so vibrant and vivid. I’ve read the land of stories eleven times (each book, time consuming very much so), and this series three times now, and I’m wading through a pile of pins and needles waiting for this book!! Why can it just come out already!? (Well I guess I know why, but still)

Anyways I’ll update once the masterpiece has been dropped, but I still can’t get over the cover!!
Nothing less than impressed, but what else can I say when it comes to mr.colfers books?

Personally this was my least favorite book in this series and the Land of Stories series. Huge cliff hanger ending A Tale of Witchcraft was not really satisfied... Most of the book fluffs around Brystal and friends trying to collect the Book of Sorcery and find the immortal as promised in book two with no avail until the last couple of chapters. The thrill of the war with the Army of the Dead and the Righteous Emperor seems to get pushed to the wayside and comes to a clumsy conclusion. Still a fun read overall as Xanthous comes into himself as a character and more is revealed about the true power the Snow Queen holds.

I enjoyed reading this last book from the tale of magic trilogy with my 11year old son. As we've already read the land of stories first(which takes place after the tale of magic series - obviously... Given this one is the part of prequel series) , there was not much anxiety about what will happen to Xanthus and whether brystal manages to procure the book of sorcery. We knew the characters will get by .. So it was a fun ride kind of thing.
The entire book is just what an adventurous little mind wants to read. It has nice, gentle dragons , fire demons, alchemists, the undead army, an unknown immortal, a quest to fulfill and a planet to save to- that is our own.
After finishing, the first thing I did was look up on the internet if there will be a 4th book coming and glad to find out- Colfer is unsure if there will be a fourth installment, but as of October 12, 2021, he said it is "very likely".
Well, that's something to look forward to 😁

What a great series. This third book was such a fun read. It was so great being back in this world, & learning more about certain characters from the original series. The Land of Stories series, like I always say lol, is what got me into MG. Always a place in my heart for it. This series was maybe even more of everything I love, geared towards maybe an older age range than the original series, & it was incredible. I think this is the last book-if he plans to make it longer I haven’t heard anything as of yet. No matter what, I hope he writes so many more MG in the future. Amazing writer. Weaves a story superbly. Especially the fairytale vibe type of story, he has such a finesse with it. Always impressed. The suspense & danger we’re amped up even more in this 1, especially with the high stakes & race against time aspect at the final stages. Edge of my seat. Such a great overall plot that came together beautifully, & connected. There are some things I could do without, but I just ignored them & focused on the overall good. I think book 1 is my favorite of the 3 if I had to pick. Brystal is an amazing MC, & I loved reading her story. Lucy is my favorite though lol love that girl. Another STUNNING cover by the amazing Brandon Dorman too.💜

This book was magical.
This is the third book in Chris Colfer’s A Tale Of Magic series and it may be my favourite so far. Since I had loved the previous two books in this series I went into this one with high hopes. Thankfully it not only lived up to my high expectations it well and truly surpassed them.
I loved getting to catch up with the awesome characters that I had grown to love over the last two books, but I was even more excited to meet the new characters and see how they fit into this story. The way the new characters and old characters blended together was absolutely perfect; the different personalities added a new level to this great book.
One of the best things about this book and the series as a whole is that it deals with real human emotions and issues while telling a fun and magical story. The characters aren’t perfect and they have problems that they need to overcome as they face the trials that are thrown at them. This real emotion and real teaching make for a truly wonderful reading experience.
Chris Colfer has done a fantastic job with this book. The story was great, the characters were amazing, and as expected, the writing was fantastic. I am so glad that I start this series and after reading this book I cant wait to get my hands on the next one.
A Tale Of Sorcery by Chris Colfer is the perfect addition to the A Tale Of Magic Series.

XANTHOUS AND ELRIK <33

this is literally only five stars because of them
i really loved how everything fell into place so nicely in the end, i expected nothing at all

i also liked how they expanded more into magic, but i wished they could have focused on sorcery more?

brystal's curse was kind of hot ngl

there are still some gaps between tale of magic and land of stories but that's perfectly okay, but i was hoping for it to be fully explained

chris's writing is always good and easy to understand (probably because it's a children's book) which was great i didn't need to rack my brain

overall i loved it ESPECIALLY XANTHOUS AND ELRIK WE NEED A SHIP NAME PEOPLE

I didn't read the whole book. I only made it a few chapters in...to the bow tie part. And then I stopped and my son and I declared we were done. He did it again. He did that in I think book five of the Land of Stories. BLAH! So annoying!

was teetering between a 4 and 5 stars and landed on a nice 4.5 stars, rounded up

this reminded me of a disney movie in the best way possible:) it was obviously a lot more elaborate, though. (i honestly wish my imagination could come up with these little worlds - they’re so cool!)

you can definitely sense the middle-gradeness through the pages aha. there were little moments like the villain’s character (I AM ALL BAD!!! WHAT IS GOOD? NOT ME) and little pep talk things brystal would give (“everyone, listen to me! i know exactly how you’re feeling! i used to be plagued with doubts, and i used to let my insecurities overrule my voice of reason…”), but overall i really loved this. the plot is a lot better than i’ve seen in any other middle-grade book.

as long as you’re not expecting the characters to act as anything other than what they are (young teenagers), i would recommend this!
