They’ve dedicated their lives to saving others, but can they save themselves?

Seventeen years ago, they met while doing emergency response work following Hurricane Rita. Maybe it was adrenaline that brought them together, maybe it was love, but it didn’t matter. It wasn’t meant to be. They lived in different parts of the world. They agreed to share one night, then went their separate ways.

Dr. Clara Bownton has spent her entire medical career saving people’s lives and she’s always had a soft spot for Texas. But the years of traveling to disaster sites and war zones have worn her down. When she’s offered a job as the Director of Emergency Medicine at a hospital in Houston, she jumps at the chance to settle down and tackle a new challenge. She didn’t expect that challenge to be a face from her past.

Allen Jeffers thought he’d spend his career in the Army until a sniper’s bullet changed his mind. He headed home to Texas to become a cop instead, working his way up the ranks to police detective. A life of service has left him hardened and grumpy, at least until he sees Clara again. But life’s taken a toll on her too. She’s not the sweet ray of sunshine she used to be when they were younger.

When they run into each other in the ER, he decides to make it his mission to bring back the fun-loving woman he remembers. Turns out, they both have a lot to learn about finding joy in life – and finding love too.

“Saving Texas” is a sweet but steamy midlife romance with nosy coworkers, good barbeque, football rivalries, hot tub fun, and a second chance reunion you won’t forget. This book is a standalone story in the "Everything's Bigger in Texas" multi-author romance series.

'Been there, done that, still got a battered heart to show for it'

Clara is the one that got away, Allen knew when he let her walk away she was taking his heart with her...he just never thought it would take 17years to find her again. I like Allen, he knows exactly who he wants and he is determined to break through the walls Clara has constructed and remind her just how explosive they are together. Clara is more difficult to like, she is cold and almost rude at times, I know she is trying to protect her heart but it still doesn't endear her to you.

Dr. Clara Bownton worked for Doctors in Disasters where she was sent to Houston, Texas to work disaster relief for ten days after hurricane Rita. During her time there, she worked closely with Corporal Allen Jeffers. They had a very striking chemistry as everyone on staff commented about their closeness. On their last night together, they decided to really live life as it was all, they would ever experience for the next day Clara was headed back to Oregon to be sent to the next disaster, and Allen would soon be shipped wherever. Their love was not to be but would fate intervene? Seventeen years later in a Houston Hospital Emergency room, they are face to face again, just like a dream. It was somewhat scary how similar the scene was to the scene, they agreed to go to dinner and spend the night together. They were both older, more mature, seen things no one should have ever had to see, and cut their planned careers short. They came home with mental, emotional, and physical scares to nurse back to health. Some that may never heal entirely. Clara was always so sparkily and full of sunshine, but when she returned to Houston there was no light left in her. Could Allen put the sparkle and sunshine back or was it lost forever. A beautifully written story of fate intervening and bringing to people back together for a happily ever after. Serious but fun read.

Reunited With Love . . .

Dr. Clara Bownton has dedicated a large part of her life in medicine to saving people caught up in disaster areas. She has been sent all over the world into all kinds of dangerous conditions to make the difference between life and death. On one of these missions, helping survivors of Hurricane Rita, she met Corporal Allen Jeffers and they took one special night to spend with each other before they moved on. Now burned out, Clara accepts a job as Director of Emergency Medicine at a hospital in Houston.

After his military service, Allen Jeffers ended up as a Detective for the Houston PD. After 17 years, he and Clara meet again. But both had been through difficult situations and Clara had lost her sparkle. Allen, however, would not give up on her and was determined to make her happy again. Will they find those feelings they had on that magic night together? Can he convince Clara that it’s not too late to start over again and find a good life together?

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. I enjoyed this short love story. The first time Allen and Clara meet they feel that spark even amidst the tragedy around them. Almost two decades later, they meet again but life has taken its toll on them both. The connection between their souls is still there which makes it easy to find peace together. These two deserve a happy future together. I liked both Clara and Allen's characters. They were perfect for each other. The story is short, but even with its tragedies, it's full of hope and love. Second chance romance that's heartfelt, sweet yet still has heat

Clara and Allen meet after Hurricane Rita devastates Houston, she is an ER doctor and he is in the military. They end up with a one night stand before she leaves for Doctors in Disasters and don't meet for seventeen years never having forgot each other. Allen is now a detective in Houston and Clara has had a bad experience in Ukraine so accepted a post in the ER at a hospital in Houston. It takes a couple of months before she gives in to Allen's persistence and they get their HEA in their 40's. Highly recommended reading.

Clara and Allen are getting a second chance at love in Saving Texas. I loved the way the author brought them back together and how the spark was still there after all the years they spent apart. Their journey of love had me cheering them on to get their well deserved happily ever after. Saving Texas is a great addition to the multi-author series Everything's Bigger in Texas. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

I absolutely love the newest book in the Everything's Bigger in Texas series. Allen and Clara have known each other for many years, and when they are reunited, they are very different people with heartbreaking tragedies from the times they were apart. I absolutely love their story and how they get their perfect ending.

The author has given us a heartwarming story that pulls us into the lives of Clara and Allen. The story bounces between past and present as we keep turning the pages with second chances, painful memories, understanding and steam.

There wasn't really a plot.

I really couldn't get into this story. The story was super flat. It felt like there really wasn't a plot. No angst. Which is usually a good thing for me but this time nothing. We find out too late in the book about the shooting for it to make a true difference.

very good

I love these mid-life romances that this author writes. So many of the books out there are twenty something’s and there is something comforting to know that someone in their 40’s and 50’s can find their happiness as well. This is a second chance romance. Both jaded from their life experiences but ultimately able to find their joy again.

For such a short story there is a lot of depth to the characters, which are awesome. There's some good bedroom spice and still a touch of that slow burn feeling. I loved the story and am looking forward to enjoying more by this author.

very good

Is a very good book. I’m not sure of the order that it should’ve been in though. I read the first book also which was very good. But I’m almost thinking that this book should’ve been the first book. Just my opinion. Again was a very good book so please read it

Trauma to terrific!

A lot can happen to a cop & an emergency doctor. Sometimes, it might be too much. But, you see a familiar face that brings all the feels and forces you to live again. Short & sweet! Enjoy! 📚🎉❤️🌻

Oh what wonderful stories the author writes! I loved both characters and how the plot developed - Clara had the potential to be annoyingly stubborn, as is often with some characters, but you end up empathizing with her and rooting for them. Warning: this book will tug at your heart strings and make you swoon.
