A brief and entertaining look into the incredible life of the prophet John Taylor. Yorgason’s work in fiction comes into play here as he writes vignettes that drop you straight into the lives of John Taylor, his family, and his friends. It’s a unique view of someone who suffered much but came out of it stronger in the Lord and stronger in his faith. Whether it was polygamy, the death of his close friend and prophet, Joseph Smith, or being forced into hiding, under threat of arrest, Taylor lived a life dedicated to his God and to his faith. A truly inspiring work!

I really didn't know much about this prophet, so I picked this bio off the library shelf. I didn't like that the vignettes were at the beginning of the chapters instead of where they fit chronologically, but otherwise I really enjoyed this book.

I really enjoyed learning more about John Taylor’s life, stories/accounts of his experiences, and the combination of narrative accounts balanced with a more factual delivery of his life’s story.

I liked the organization of this book in that it alternated a first person perspective and then the biography. In some parts it was a little confusing and slow, but a great way to study a prophet
