Marx and Satan

Rate this book
The late Reverend Richard Wurmbrand spent 14 years as a prisoner of the Communist government in Romania , where he was persecuted for his faith in Jesus Christ. His experience led him to spend further years researching Karl Marx and the Communist doctrines he developed. While Communism portrays itself as a noble endeavor for the good of mankind, and claims an Atheistic view, Wurmbrand exposes its true roots, revealing that Karl Marx and the fathers of the modern Communist/Socialist movements were inspired by the powers of darkness.

By examining the confessions, writings, and poetry of Marx and his followers, the author demonstrates how the "prince of darkness" gave these men the "sword" by which they have terrorized the nations. Wurmbrand proves that this movement is not simply the work of greedy men, hungry for wealth and power, but is "after the working of Satan" with the intent of destroying mankind.

Early life

Richard Wurmbrand, the youngest of four boys, was born in 1909 in Bucharest in a Jewish family. He lived with his family in Istanbul for a short while; his father died when he was 9, and the Wurmbrands returned to Romania when he was 15.

As an adolescent, he became attracted to communism, and, after attending a series of illegal meetings of the Communist Party of Romania (PCdR), he was sent to study Marxism in Moscow, but returned clandestinely the following year. Pursued by Siguranţa Statului (the secret police), he was arrested and held in Doftana prison. Wurmbrand subsequently renounced his political ideals.

He married Sabina Oster on October 26, 1936. Wurmbrand and his wife were converted to Christianity in 1938 through the witness of Christian Wolfkes, a Romanian Christian carpenter; they joined the Anglican Mission to the Jews. Wurmbrand was ordained twice - first as an Anglican, then, after World War II, as a Lutheran pastor.

In 1944, when the Soviet Union occupied Romania as the first step to establishing the communist regime, Wurmbrand began a ministry to his Romanian countrymen and to the Red Army soldiers. When the government attempted to control the churches, he immediately began an "underground" ministry to his people. He was arrested on February 29, 1948, while on his way to church services.

Wurmbrand, who passed through the penal facilities of Craiova, Gherla, the Danube-Black Sea Canal, Văcăreşti, Malmaison, Cluj, and ultimately Jilava, spent three years in solitary confinement. His wife, Sabina, was arrested in 1950 and spent three years of penal labor on the Danube Canal.

Pastor Wurmbrand was released in 1956, after eight and a half years, and, although warned not to preach, resumed his work in the underground church. He was arrested again in 1959, and sentenced to 25 years. During his imprisonment, he was beaten and tortured.

Eventually, he was the recipient of an amnesty in 1964. Concerned with the possibility of further imprisonment, the Norwegian Mission to the Jews and the Hebrew Christian Alliance negotiated with the Communist authorities for his release from Romania for $10,000. He was convinced by underground church leaders to leave and become a voice for the persecuted church.

Wurmbrand traveled to Norway, England, and then the United States. In May 1965, he testified in Washington, D.C. before the US Senate's Internal Security Subcommittee. He became known as the "The Voice of the Underground Church," doing much to publicize the persecution of Christians in Communist countries.

In April 1967, the Wurmbrands formed Jesus To The Communist World (later named The Voice of the Martyrs), an interdenominational organization working initially with and for persecuted Christians in Communist countries, but later expanding its activities to help persecuted believers in other places, especially in the Muslim world. However, when in Namibia, and confronted with the case of Colin Winter, the Anglican Bishop of Namibia, who had supported African strikers and was eventually deported from Namibia by South Africa, Wurmbrand criticized the latter's anti-apartheid activism, and claimed resistance to communism was more important.

In 1990 Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand returned to Romania for the first time in 25 years. The Voice of the Martyrs opened a printing facility and bookstore in Bucharest. He preached about God together with pastor Ioan Panican.

The Wurmbrands had one son, Mihai. Wurmbrand wrote 18 books in English and others in Romanian. His best-known book is entitled Tortured for Christ, released in 1967. His wife, Sabina, died August 11, 2000.

Pastor Wurmbrand died on February 17, 2001 in a hospital in Long Beach, California. In 2006, he came fifth among the greatest Romanians according to a poll conducted by Romanian Television (Televiziunea Română).

'This is my wish for you, the reader. You have walked with me through the terrible pages of this book....choose life and love and hope and heaven.'

Very enlightening and informative - but I wouldn't recommend this book to anybody! I had to skip some of it because of the horrific descriptions of torture and Satanic worship. This was a very dark and heavy read, and I could feel the oppression of these people as I was reading it.

This book declares the truth, but it is NOT for younger readers.

Not only is the book unconvincing but apparently Wurmbrand misrepresented the text he was quoting from as well, as shown in the excellent review by Karl Radl: "when we compare the quotation given by Wurmbrand and the actual side-by-side we can see that Wurmbrand is deliberately misleading his reader about what Riis quoted Helene Demuth as actually saying. Yes: he quotes her words, but he misses the vital clarification about what Riis states she was talking about."

and later summarizes "Essentially Wurmbrand approaches Marx with a conclusion reached a priori and then tries to find evidence to prove that conclusion. This is why Wurmbrand's 'Marx & Satan' reads like it was written by a schizophrenic at times and also why the author seems so intent on 'proving' his point even when the 'evidence' he uses tends to obviously mean something else other than the spin he tries to put on it."

If we were feeling generous we could attribute Wurmbrand's self-appointed mission to claim 'Marx was a Satanist' probably originated in his time in Communist custody in Romania. That experience certainly gave Wurmbrand a considerable amount of drive and sense of mission, but it also appears to have thrown out any attempt on his part to rationally approach Marxism and its popularly-believed originator: Karl Marx." http://semiticcontroversies.blogspot....

Simply amazing and makes sense as to the root of hatred by both Karl Marx and Joseph Stalin. I have grown up with the history of Communism in Russia, as my father was born in southern Ukraine in 1914. Many of what stories he told me have been mirrored in Pastor Wurmbrand's books. If Marx was truly one who worshiped Satan over the Lord God, it is no wonder of his hatred of Christian people. But the Love of Jesus is stronger, praise God, as Richard Wurmbrand knew. I could hardly put this book down.

This was probably the most interesting book I've read this year.

It should actually be titled Marxism and Satan, not Marx and Satan, because it is more a book about the mostly hidden Satanic origins of Marxism than a spiritual biography of Karl Marx, and as such, it's broad enough to include information on the religious viewpoints of Marx's contemporaries who influenced him or were influenced by him. These include Moses Hess (described as Marx's philosophical mentor, the man who inspired him to embrace communism); Marx's partner Friedrich Engels; and Mikhail Bakhunin, Marx's colleague and former friend and (per one of my professors) the philosophical father of anarchistic terrorism.

Things I didn't know before reading this book:

Marx's (not Marxism's) Christian background. Everyone who knows anything about Marx knows he was ethnically Jewish, so I didn't guess he would have been raised Christian; but yes, his family was Christian and he grew up one, as shown in his youthful writing. But around age eighteen or so, he flipped from praising God to explicitly hating Him. His writings (quoted extensively in the book) completely avoid explaining what happened to change him, but make it clear that he had not become an "atheist" per se--he knew perfectly well that God existed, but simply hated Him.

Marx's colleague Friedrich Engels had also rebelled against God in his youth, but retained some grudging sympathy or fondness toward Christianity that Marx did not share; and author Wurmbrand claims Engels may have repented at the end of his life.

Marx actually strongly opposed communism in his youth at the time he began hating God. He even explicitly wrote that anyone expressing communist views should be executed.

Marx's primary mentor, the man who convinced him to embrace communism, was German philosopher and poet Moses Hess. Like Marx, Hess hated God and explicitly embraced Satan.

I already knew a little about Marx's racism, but I did not know he explicitly supported slavery in America. The reason is somewhat complicated--I don't fully understand it--but has to do with his belief that America would have been a "patriarchal" nation without slavery. (I have no idea.)

However, Marx did not embrace communism out of any love for mankind and desire to improve working-class conditions; that widely-held belief is a Communist-promulgated myth. Marx explained in his writings, in the clearest possible terms, that he would help establish communism, socialist ideas, for the express purpose of spreading misery in the world. He wrote an explicit statement about wanting to "drag mankind into hell"; I can't find it in the book at the moment, but you will if you read it.

Note the similarity to Mein Kampf and its effect: that Hitler announced his plans years beforehand in Mein Kampf, but nobody paid enough attention; and the same has been true with Marx's early writings. The truth is there for examination, but most don't bother to look.

The Satanist influence explains so much. I already knew the hatred for Christianity; but finally I know the origin of the Gothic (and goth) tendencies I have seen and been fascinated by for years when I see or read about Marxists past and present.

These are some writings of Marx, quoted by Wurmbrand, that are particularly illustrative of his true thinking.

[from Marx's poem "Ode to Despair"]
So a god has snatched me from my all,
In the curse and rack of destiny.
All his worlds are gone beyond recall.
Nothing but revenge is left to me.

I shall build my summit high overhead,
Cold, tremendous shall its summit be.
For its bulwark--superstitious dread.
For its marshal--blackest agony.

Who looks on it with a healthy eye,
Shall turn back, deathly pale and dumb,
Clutched by blind and chill mortality,
May his happiness prepare its tomb.

"Then I will be able to walk triumphantly,
Like a god, through the ruins of their kingdom.
Every word of mine is fire and action.
My breast is equal to that of the Creator."

[Marx in a letter to his father]
"A curtain had fallen. My holy of holies was rent asunder and new gods had to be installed.

[from his poem "On Hegel"]
"Words I teach all mixed up into a devilish muddle.
Thus, anyone may think just what he chooses to think."

"Thus heaven I've forfeited,
I know it full well.
My soul, once true for God,
Is chosen for hell."
[from his poem "The Pale Maiden"]

"With disdain I will throw my gauntlet
Full in the face of the world,
And see the collapse of this pygmy giant
Whose fall will not stifle my ardour.
Then will I wander godlike and victorious
Through the ruins of the world
And, giving my words an active force,
I will feel equal to the Creator."
[his poem "Human Pride"]

"...stupid boys, rogues, asses." --Marx describing the proletariat

These and other quotations, most with footnotes, reveal Marx's hatred toward individuals, nations and classes of people. His colleagues and mentors, such as Hess and Friedrich Engels, make many similar statements in their writings.

Marx and the others sometimes absolutely sound as though they were being used as a conduit, as though Satan spoke through them.

Later thinkers and political leaders who put Communism into action, especially Lenin, seemed to recognize the darkness with incredible and terrifying self-awareness. From Lenin:
I committed a great error. My nightmare is to have the feeling that I'm lost in an ocean of blood from our innumerable victims. Is it too late to return. To save our country, Russia, we could have needed men like Francis of Assisi. With ten men like him we would have saved Russia.

From the Communist International's secretary-general Bukharin, writing to his wife just before he was arrested and executed by Stalin: "I am leaving life. I am lowering my head. ... I feel my helplessness before a hellish machine..."

Fascinating and chilling! The nihilism and Satanic influences of Marxism/Communism are clearly established thru Marx's own words.

One only has to read Marx’s analysis of Hegel to see that Marx is clearly demon-possessed. But Wurmbrand suspects there might be more to it. Wurmbrand is not saying Marx made a pact with the Devil. He is saying he used Luciferian categories, language, etc. And later Marxists were openly Satanic.

Satanic Evidence

Marx speaks of “building his throne against God” in language reminiscent of Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28.

Background:

One of the rituals of the Satanist church is the back mass, which Satanist priests recite at midnight. Black candles are put in the candlesticks upside down. The priest is dressed in his ornate robes, but with the lining outside. He says all things prescribed in the prayer book, but reads from the end toward the beginning. The holy names of God, Jesus, and Mary are read inversely. A crucifix is fastened upside down or trampled upon. The body of a naked woman serves as an altar. A consecrated wafer stolen from a church is inscribed with the name Satan and is used for a mock communion. During the black mass a Bible is burned. All those present promise to commit the seven deadly sins, as enumerated in Catholic catechisms, and never to do any good. An orgy follows (Wurmbrand 8).

We will now consider Marx’s drama “Oulanem” (which is an inversion of the name Emanuel, a specifically Satanic move) Marx writes,

The hellish vapours rise and fill the brain, Till I go mad and my heart is utterly changed. See this sword? The prince of darkness Sold it to me. For me he beats the time and gives the signs. Ever more boldly I play the dance of death.

Wurmbrand comments: These lines take on special significance when we learn that in the rites of higher initiation in the Satanist cult an "enchanted" sword which ensures success is sold to the candidate. He pays for it by signing a covenant, with blood taken from his wrists, agreeing that his soul will belong to Satan after death (9).

Marx writes in a letter to his father, “A curtain had fallen. My holy of holies was rent asunder and new gods had to be installed” (10 November 1837).

Instead of telling his kids fairy tales at bed times, he told them stories of men who sold their souls to the devil. Seriously. Who does this? Wurmbrand quotes Robert Payne, “There can be very little doubt that those interminable stories were autobiographical. He had the Devil's view of the world, and the Devil's malignity. Sometimes he seemed to know that he was accomplishing works of evil.”

Speaking of the anarchist Bakunin, Wurmbrand has a very interesting paragraph: “Bakunin reveals that Proudhon, another major Socialist thinker and at that time a friend of Karl Marx, also "worshiped Satan." Hess had introduced Marx to Proudhon, who wore the same hair style typical of the nineteenth-century Satanist sect of Joanna Southcott” (Wurmbrand 16).

Marx’s favorite daughter Eleanor married an avowed Satanist, Edward Eveling.

Marx’s behavior on his deathbed was rather strange. His housemaid and whore, Helen Demuth, said he prayed before candles the week before his death. Marx never practiced Judaism and he openly rejected Christianity. So what was happening? More interesting is that he had a statue of Zeus. Zeus, as those who aren’t enamored of a Bowdlerized Greek classicism know, is Satan. Plain and simple.

Wurmbrand: “Britain’s center of Satanism is Highgate Cemetery in London, where Karl Marx is buried. Mysterious rites of black magic are celebrated at this tomb. It was the place of inspiration for the Highgate Vampire, who attacked several girls in 1970” (35).

Wurmbrand then has some observations on Lenin’s Satanism. The rest of the book (from about page 40 onward) is a litany of Marxist crimes, especially in connection with Satanic themes. It is a supplement to Solzhenitsyn’s never-sufficiently-praised Gulag. It’s not easy reading. It’s necessary, though. If anyone is tempted by Wokism or Cultural Marxism, then he/she/xir/xim needs to read it. And own it. Because that’s exactly what is going to happen.

The last chapter is a snapshot from a Satanic mass by a person who later escaped. I won’t mention it here for obvious reasons.

Some criticisms

This is one of those issues where it is “document or die.” Wurmbrand will refer to the titles of Marx’s works, but often not any more specific than that. I guess that can’t be helped, since most of these were pamphlets which wouldn’t have any consistent pagination.

This book was a real eyeopener as to how a Christian, in this case, Karl Marx, can get so deceived by the devil, even to end up no longer believing in the Bible, and the God he knew personally (Karl Marx had a relationship with Jesus!) mainly through studying so called science in college that resulted in him believing in evolution INSTEAD of the Bible! This book clearly shows how the theory (not really proven scientifically!!) of evolution extremely contradicts the Bible!
Marx and Satan
As it happened with young college student Karl Marx, he saw it has to be EITHER the Bible or evolution -- BOTH could not be true!!
Marx really was right about that, both could not be true! But the poor college student did not realize it was the devil who was affecting his mind and deciding for him which was true or false!! Of course, that being the case, it was decided the Bible was FALSE!! Evolution TRUE!!
The book goes on to show Karl Marx's gradual involvement with Satanism!! Satanism, even though Karl Marx had already had a close walk with the Lord. His poetry shows that! Beautiful Christian poems!
Are all evolutionists atheists? It may always start out that way (the devil is very tricky!) Deceiving people into giving up ridiculous childish FAITH, in someone invisible! And believed a Book that tells stories about people who did (just as he did/had!) believe they personally KNEW God, and experienced His presence, and also, His loving miracle Power in their lives!!
Marx was deceived into believing he was gullible, believing in God INSTEAD of science and what was materially 'proven'!! Evolution 'science' (supposedly) proved there was no God!! The earth was billions of years old, and evolution repeatedly proved the Bible FALSE!! Therefore, NO GOD!!
But the devil was just getting Marx 'set up' to get involved in Satanism!! What a HORRIBLE thing!! As the book clearly shows, much using Karl Marx writings, as well as writings from his family members, and very sick colleagues such as Lenin and Stalin! ALL Communists! But also, Satanists!! SICK!! Very pitiful!!
I know personally such a thing is utter evil! I also was VERY DECEIVED, even as a Christian! It wasn't Satanism, nor evolution, that I fell for, but it was a form of the occult, which of course, discredited the Bile -- very cleverly! The LIES at first appear true, and seem to be also very helpful information!! That is how the devil operates!
Evil spirits know how to deceive a person so it seems you can NEVER get out! Never get free from their grasp! I thank God, and all the people He used, for being so loving and patient with me, bringing more and more Light (Truth) into my life, that I finally got free!! And back KNOWING more assuredly than ever, the Bible is all TRUE, properly studied and interpreted, and am also enjoying my relationship with Jesus, also without doubt, again!!
AS you can imagine, I have much pity, even for those ending up being used by the devil to do horrific cruel things against other human beings! But also, of course, MUCH PITY for the victims of such horrific acts!! YES!!
I'm writing this review of 'Marx and Satan' on Nov 28, 2016 right now after I have just joined 'Good Reads'. I wanted to list and describe a book I read, and I knew this would be a good one! Being a Christian, and having been very deceived by the devil myself at times; and eventually even very deeply, experiencing it's horror, I wanted to list as a book on 'Good Reads' that I was very impressed by and highly recommend it to everyone to read!!
Today it is four years since I read 'Marx & Satan' by Richard Wurmbrand, a Christian who was tortured and imprisoned by the very sick and deceived Communists because he would not give up his belief in the Bible and Jesus Christ, whom he knew personally! As I do - HURRAY!!
So if you go and read 'Marx & Satan', I just want to warn you that some of what I have written here may be off a little. If you find that, please don't doubt my credibility, but rather please look at my heart; that I am working from memory, and am confident I am at least getting across the gist of this very powerful 'eye opening' book. And especially, with the way things are in the world today, whether it is Marxism (Communism) Socialism (geared to turn into full Communism), Nazism, radical Islam - any of the cruel tyrannies ruling much of the world today, they basically are all the same! CRUEL TYRANNIES!! Cruel tyrannical, demonically incited rulers, such as Karl Marx, Stalin, Lenin, Hitler, (and even in US) are important to recognize, and understand; so that sane people can work to STOP their getting into high positions and being cruelly used by the devil!!
The sooner they are recognized, the better!! For their sake - YES!! They NEED both spiritual and mental illness treatment!! Just as I did, in order get free from the deception I had fallen for, and it had gotten a grip on me! I needed to be court ordered, unwilling to go voluntarily, into the state mental hospital several times!! AS well as to receive out patient treatment, and be put on psychiatric meds! And have regular psychiatrist, and MHMR case worker visits.
Or people who have already gotten into a ruling position but are also spiritually and mentally ill while in that position, demonically deceived as shown in 'Marx and Satan', should be removed from office, appropriately, but also as soon as can be, being as SICK and DANGEROUS, to themselves and others, as they are!! They will almost certainly NOT BELIEVE they are SICK, and FIGHT being even told they are! And also, of course, FIGHT being removed from their position of influence, truly BELIEVING (deception!) there is NOTHING WRONG with them!! That the problem is with those telling them they are sick, and NEED help. It is deception such that they REALLY DO NOT BELIEVE what others are telling them about a sickness they have, even though it is obvious to everyone else around them. (Unless they have 'deceived those around them' into thinking they, eg, Karl Marx, te Father of Communism' are a super ruler, such as Hitler, Marx, (Donald Trump?) Then it is VERY DANGEROUS! They are enabled (strengthened in their deception; their anosognosia!) by others believing in this 'super ruler' by what he is telling them, BELIEVING he really is going to do great things for the world!! Be the 'Savior' they so greatly NEED!! And of course, it is also demons (as in 'Marx & Satan', me, and many cases) who deceive those around a very deceived ruler, in order to keep him deceived, and KEEP HIM IN A POSITION of control over people! Cruel CONTROL, extending into Cruel Control over all the people of a certain country (kill dissenters) and usually having the whole world as their eventual goal they NEED to rule over!! Much paranoia (as I had!) and ruled by FEAR; including FEAR of those they are CONTROLLING (deceived sees it as 'governing') will 'rise up against you'! A fun life?? Hitler and his FUN life?? NO!!!!!! (nor for other blinded and demonically controlled rulers!!)
They NEED to be seen as the SICK people they really are; and removed from office, and 'court ordered' (usually FIGHT IT, because of BLIND to their need!) into serious mental illness treatment. It isn't kind to NOT do so- not for them; or the people likely to end up being cruelly treated by the system of cruel tyranny they WILL ultimately bring on the people they are in a position to lead ('Lead' to them = CONTROL).
The neurological term for this blindness to being mentally ill (or can be physical illness. Often occurs with substance abuse) is called 'anosognosia'. [Anosognosia - Anosognosia is a deficit of self-awareness, a condition in which a person who suffers some disability seems unaware of the existence of his or her disability. - Wikipedia]
VERY spiritually and mentally ill! The more influence they have over people, the more DANGEROUS!! For ALL!!
The good news is, just as with me, they CAN BE HELPED!! It may NEED to be mandated at first, but as with me and others who DIDN'T SEE they NEEDED HELP, we have greatly appreciated others caring enough to go against our wishes, our will, sometimes going against yelling, crying, and threats!
Two Policemen sent to my home said they were going to literally carry me out of my kitchen into the Police car because I was refusing to go with them! They said they would carry me out if I did not agree to co-operate with the court ordered instructions they had, to come and take me to the mental hospital, a place I had needed to go to several times before! I knew I had no choice, so I finally agreed to go with them.
In time, I GREATLY APPRECIATED those who had me court ordered to state mental hospital stays and to taking anti-psychotic meds, and to seeing psychiatrists, and counselors. Praise the Lord, I am now healed, and don't need any of that! I do greatly appreciate what was then greatly needed help, even though much of it was mandated at first, for as long as I needed it! I don't know what would have happened to me if I didn't have it -- HELP which I would NOT have sought for myself! Thank You, God, for people who cared enough 'to force me' into the help I NEEDED!!
And God, THANK YOU, for being my HEALER, providing all that I needed all along this long journey, such that I am now healed of all mental illness!! Thank You, Jesus!!
I didn't intend to get off into telling about my own past mental illness when I started this book review. I didn't have any idea of going that direction. But as I went along, I could see how very related my past experiences with very deceptive mental illness is with what is told in the book 'Marx and Satan' by author and founder of 'Voice of the Martyrs' Richard Wurmbrand. Very much related -- especially explaining my own experience of anosognoia! Blinded to my illness!!
If I got some of the details wrong in my review of 'Marx and Satan' here, please overlook them. It is just that I am very passionate about people reading this book, so even though I may have erred in some of my reporting of it because it has been four years since I read 'Marx and Satan', I figure I have gotten the main idea about it across here.
Richard Wurmbrand and his wife, and their young son, after years of suffering separately in Communist concentration camps and prisons, have been used greatly by God, and are well known throughout the world because of their testimonies before those in the gov't in the UK, and also before Congress here in the US, testifying of the torturous treatment under the tyrannical rule of both Nazis and then Russian Communists in their home country of Romania! Able to tell about it after they got free in the early 60's and were able to come to America, seeking to spread the word about the cruel torturous treatment of many, and get help for them!
Also, in time, the Wurmbrands founded Voice of the Martyrs, an organization, and website, that is a huge help for the persecuted greatly suffering today! Both Rev and Mrs Wurmbrand have gone home to be with the Lord, and their son is still being used greatly by God today! Filled with LOVE and forgiveness for their very cruel persecutors (demonically deceived, blinded!), evil enemies; merciful just as Jesus was and is!!
This book can be purchased through Voice of the Martyrs, or Amazon. Or you can get it as an Ebook for Free. Or as a PDF download for Free. Just look around online, and by God's help, you will find it.
Yes, it definitely is a GOOD READ!! And I believe it will change your life --- just as it did mine!!

After reading this book I must admit that it's premise - Marx being a satanist mastermind - is not that far fetched. Was Marx aware that his philosophy is in direct opposition of what Christianity teaches? Yes. Was Marx an atheist? Looks like no, because in his writings we find his hateful relation towards christian God. So is it not right to call him a satanist if he hates God and actively proposes ideas that goes directly against christian faith?

This book is a must read for all the young leftists so numerous in today's Europe. The fact that your beloved idol was not an atheist himself should send some seriously strong chills down your spine.

Random note: author mentions several incident of satanic activities in Lithuania during soviet occupation when numerous catholic churches were robbed and desecrated. Before reading this book I did not think that those acts were satanic in nature, but now I do.

Marx and Satan is an interesting book for a few reasons. Richard Wurmbrand was a Romanian Christian minister who ended up imprisoned and tortured by the Communist regime for several years. He has an ax to grind when it comes to religious persecution, one that I consider legitimate. His thesis is that Marx was a Satanist whose ultimate goal was to destroy religion. He appeals to a lot of juvenilia Marx wrote when he was young, as well as some of the stranger quotes from his mature work and personal letters. If you are looking for a laundry list of dirt that is difficult to shrug off as cherry picked quotes taken out of context, Wurmbrand's research is surprisingly good. While I can't fully accept his Christian worldview, what I can accept is that Marx was likely a man of very dubious character, and the notion he was an egotistical misotheist is not too far-fetched. While Wurmbrand credits many of Marx's followers with being humanists who hold good intentions, he feels Christianity is the only answer for mankind and that Satanic forces are at work to undermine it. With a little bit of empathy, and acknowledgement of the shameful history of Marxist violence, I can feel the source of his terror.

A fascinating book. I expected political conjecture or theological parallelism, but Wurmbrand offers the poetry of Marx and Engels themselves! Statements from Communists about working for Satan. Illumination of a (not entirely unknown) secret society, even, with its highest echelon called "Hell." Comparison of Satanist ritual with the writings and actions of Marxists of the highest pedigree.

The only drawback was its style, which was wandering, and almost random. Almost no segues between information occur; it is broken into chapters, but very poorly compartmentalized. Seems vomited into the book. That, and the (explicitly admitted) circumstantial nature of its claims (not including the personal writings of Marxist elite) put it a half star below what its content merits.

Anyone who loves Orwell, Solzhenitsyn or Dostoyevsky: read this book. If of the former category and also a Christian: certainly read it. If interested in Soviet literature or politics, it is worthy of at least a once-through.

The author writes in a good spirit, but many of the quotations are provided without context, and scanty evidence is often stretched thin to accommodate the theories. The only substantive point I could draw from this book is that Marx's writings were more focussed on hatred than love. To say more is beyond my power—but isn't that enough?

5-stars simply because this is a must-read book. Wurmbrand proves conclusively that socialism was invented by evil people with the goal of destroying mankind, not improving it. There are many problems with HOW the book was written, however. On several occasions, Wurmbrand speciously applies a quote from an organization a person was affiliated with to that person or makes a similar leap in order to tie a connection together. He also sets unrealistic expectations. The reader expects that he will prove that Marx himself was a practicing Satanist. In the end, he makes a strong circumstantial case to this effect and certainly proves Marx had the same goals as Satan, the destruction of humanity, and that he was decidedly not an atheist--rather he believed in God and hated Him. And, indeed, in his conclusion, Wurmbrand makes a very accurate assessment of what he has and hasn't proved, but it's a weaker thesis than what is promised at the beginning. Nevertheless, the scale of Satanic involvement Wurmbrand documents, not just with Marx but with many of his close associates and leaders within socialism/communism, make this required reading.

In 1990, I read the book MARX & SATAN, by Richard Wurmbrand and very much appreciated his extensive research, thoughts, and conclusions regarding the demonic author of the COMMUNIST MANIFESTO, Karl Marx. In 1970, when I first read Marx's COMMUNIST MANIFESTO, I was shocked as his horrible, cruel, inhumane, revolutionary manifesto aimed at destroying religion, the family, free-economies, prosperity, and to destroy human love to replace it with Satanic hate, mass murder, government theft of all things. The book by Wurmbrand gives a great insight into Karl Marx, his original Christian alignment, his change of view, his fervent hatred of Jesus Christ and all things Christian, who his friends and mentors were that held similar Satanic views. The love of others waxed cold in Marx and disappeared. This week, I took the little book off my shelves again and began reading it again for the third time. I recommend this book to all seekers after truth. I'm reading the book a second time.

As one who was imprisoned for his faith in Communist Romania, Wurmbrand provides interesting and convincing arguments that, “The ultimate aim of communism in conquering new countries is not to establish another social or economic system. It is to mock God and praise Satan” (67). Wurmbrand, unfortunately, gives plenty ground when he includes Catholics a part of “the church universal” (see pages 125, 128-130), which is one of my primary objections with the book.

Since I picked up this book as a part of my research on the current Woke movement, the most helpful sections of the book were Wurmbrand’s discussion about Moses Hess (pages 36-37, 87-95), the final chapter, “Marx or Christ,” and the appendix, “Can Communism Be Christian?” in which, Wurmbrand explains how opposed a Communist utopia is to the future, earthly kingdom of God foretold by the biblical prophets.

A fascinating and compelling read on a disturbing, but important topic. Wurmbrand exposes the Satanic origins of Marxism and the Satanic behavior of its most famous proponents. This book is a warning voice to all who sympathize in the least with Marxism in hopes that they turn away from the Marxism so prevalent in today's society and overcome the 'natural man' by siding with the truth and justice found in Christ.

I am fascinated by so many elements of this book. The focus on Marx as a satanist communicated through a very straightforward and literal interpretation of his creative work, the secondary "evidence" of his problematic behaviours (being racist, cheating on his wife, etc), the response to a reader letter asking why Satan is so bad considering God also harms and kills people with essentially "God ain't done cookin' us yet so give him a break :-) it's good :-)".

Incredible vibes.

Eye-opening to what aspects of Marx's life and thought may have been influenced by his initiation into the realm of Satanism. The well-researched bibliography from which Wurmbrand draws is worthy of investigation as well.

Just awful. There are so many logical fallacies in this book it's unbelievable. Anything Marx did or said that could possibly imply his being a devil worshipper is taken as proof of such.

Deserves a zero. One of the craziest, least sensible things I've ever read. The image of Wurmbrand I grew up with is in tatters.

Politika nasleduje kultúru a kultúra nasleduje náboženstvo.

Is it reasonable to expect a young student to entertain as his life's dream the vision of mankind entering into the abyss of darkness ("outer darkness" is a Biblical expression for hell) and of himself laughing as he follows those he has led to unbelief?

Yes. Have you met a college student? Book solved.

In seriousness, the most interesting passage to me is in the appendix:

The word "communism" in itself is vague. It is taken to mean only an economic system in which everyone will work according to his abilities and will receive according to his needs. There will be no state, no division of the world into countries, and no social classes, because the means of production will belong to all mankind.

Suppose this could be attained-where is God in the picture? Why should this be equated with the kingdom of God? A society of unbelievers, even of men who hate and scorn God, could choose or be forced to live in such a state.

A world of non-believers where people lived good lives would not be okay. This suggests to me that Wurmbrand would be fine with a society of destitution, inequality, and suffering so long as everyone professed his faith. In fact, when he says that "the church should certainly support any actions conscience can endorse in the battle against the enemies of God" it shows his hand. If the "enemies of God" want to drag souls down to eternal damnation, what action couldn't conscience endorse?

Everything he claims Communists have done he would do (and more) on behalf of his version of Christianity - note that this appendix is him attacking other Christians. It's very easy to see how this leads to fascism. This is just the shallow waters of authoritarianism.

Found this little gem in the discard pile at my local public library. I can't resist a book with a title (and cover) like this one. I'll have to read a decent, non-sycophantic, non-vitriolic bio of Marx before attacking this odd little volume so I know exactly what (if anything (and I suspect there will be something(s))) Wurmbrand is fabricating and what he's simply interpreting differently than mainstream thinkers.

Rev. Wurmbrand makes a strong case linking Marx with Satan with many citations and factual evidences. Even if you do not believe in Satan, you will agree that communist practices are evil and with total disregard for the human life.
I read the Kindle edition and unfortunately this edition is pretty bad. The chapters and words mix up, no index, and other small things that annoy the reader. Go for the printed edition.

Amazing book. Plenty of evidence that shows the connection from satan to communism. The "benevolent" social goals are just an "attractive" front.

A very thought provoking book that I would definitely not recommend to just anybody. I want to leave some quotes that I liked:

"To kill political enemies, to make war and stir up revolution even with mass killings proves human sinfulness. But the Russian Communists, having killed millions of their enemies, turned their violence against even their friends, including their most illustrious comrades, the chief perpetrators of their revolution. This is the seal of Satanism. It is revolution not for attaining a goal, but revolution and killing for killing's sake, what Marx called 'the permanent revolution'"

"Communist persecution of religion might have a human explanation, but the fury of such perverse persecution can only be Satanic"

"If there is no God, everything is permitted. If there is no God, our instincts are free. The ultimate expression of this kind of liberty is hatred. "

While reading the book I had a few doubts about Wurmbrand's arguments and his research but I really appreciated what he said at the end:

"This book has been written in an exploratory manner. Christian thinkers, like other scholars, often succumb to the temptation to prove preconceived ideas. They do not necessarily present only the truth as far as they have ascertained it. Sometimes they are prone to stretch the truth or exaggerate their argumentation in order to prove their point. I do not claim to have provided indisputable proof that Marx was a member of a sect of devilworshipers, but I believe that there are sufficient leads to imply this strongly.
"
"Let me say again that I am conscious that the evidence I have given to date may be
considered circumstantial. But what I have written is enough to show that what
Marxists say about Karl Marx is a myth"
