A native New Yorker, RITA-winning author Annie Solomon has been dreaming up stories since she was ten. After a twelve-year career in advertising, where she rose to Vice President and Head Writer at a mid-size agency, she abandoned the air conditioners, furnaces and heat pumps of her professional life for her first love—romance. An avid knitter, she now lives in Nashville with her husband and daughter.
My first read by Annie Solomon and I will definitely look for more. It had a great balance of suspense and romance. There were a few minor issues with the story but not enough of a bother to really mention. Just a few times I wasn't sure I liked where the story was going.
The first half felt a little slow, but wow the second half was fantastic. I wasn't sure what to think about Mitch at the start. He's one of the good guys. A hard worker, loving dad, but there was just something missing at the start. He didn't have that "thing" that makes a character come to life. But once Dutch came on page and Julia's story took off, Mitch became that guy. He made all the tough/right choices, regardless of how it would impact him. After all the beatings and heart break and false accusations against him, I wanted nothing more than a happy ending for Mitch and Julia.
Mitch Turner has been on the road with his daughter Julia since she was born 11 years ago. Picking up odd jobs and never staying in one place too long, he and Julia, who he affectionately calls Jules or Junebug, have never really had a home. Never-the-less Mitch has always put his daughter first, ensuring she is well fed, clothed, educated, and most importantly loved. When Julia uses a mix of begging, pleading and clever negotiation to stay in Crossroads, Tennessee for the holidays, Mitch feels guilty that she has never experienced a true Thanksgiving or Christmas and grudgingly agrees. Mitch and Julia quickly settle into a routine with Mitch working as a short order cook at Cricks, a local café. His co-worker, waitress Neesy Brown likes Mitch – a little too much. Although Nessy has made past mistakes in her life, particularly with men, she is committed to turning over a new leaf. But there is something different about Mitch that has Neesy wondering if she shouldn’t give up on men – at least not this man.
Initially reluctant to stay, Mitch hopes that Crossroads is a small enough town that the demons from his past will not catch up with them and harm Julia. His hopes are squelched when an overzealous local newspaper reporter runs a story on Mitch that reaches the FBI and a psychotic serial killer who has his eyes on Julia. Implicated in a local homicide that has the serial killer’s signature, Mitch will not stop until he is reunited with Julia who has not been heard from since the days after his arrest. Mitch and Neesy embark on a multi-state hunt to find Julia and something deeper with one another.
Two Lethal Lies started off with a bang and held my attention until the end. Ms. Solomon crafted a story that had me sighing at heart-warming moments, my heart racing with anticipation as they searched for Julia, and my body chilled to the bone from an easy-to-hate villain. Though I truly enjoyed the story overall, I think the genre is best characterized as suspense/thriller with elements of romance. Readers certainly get to know and like Mitch and Neesy, but their love story did not take center stage. Though I hoped for a more prominent romance/steam-factor, it did not lessen the intensity or my overall enjoyment of the book. Centering the story on a single father was both refreshing to see and created some heart-stealing moments with Mitch and Julia. I appreciated that Ms. Solomon paid homage to father-daughter and mother-son love that added a depth and fullness which I very much liked.
This was my first Annie Solomon novel, but will not be my last. Two Lethal Lies is a fast-paced, suspenseful story with unexpected twists and tender moments that you will not want to put down.
Favorite Quote:
“She’s been intimate before, hadn’t she? Undressed stark, raving naked. But that was only her body. That moment with Mitch…like he’d stripped her in a different way. Inside. As though every feeling she’d ever had before was false and shallow. Gave her a scary kind of thrill. She shivered.”
Two Lethal Lies by Annie Solomon Romantic Suspense - Sept. 28th, 2010 4 stars
In Two Lethal Lies, Annie Solomon writes a plot with many intriguing twists. This was a suspenseful read as I was pulled into a father's desperate journey to save the life of the daughter he loves. And what he is wiling to sacrifice so that she can have a happy life.
Mitch is running from a secret danger but years on the run have made his daughter, Julia long for a place to stay. When they find a friendly town and Julia begs to stay Mitch know although he shouldn't. But he can't deny his daughter. He finds himself agreeing to stay for a short time. Soon he finds himself paying the price when his face is put in the local newspaper after he saves a little girl. Then a series of murders lead directly to him and Mitch finds himself hunted by the law. But worst of all, his fears are realized when his daughter is taken away by someone truly evil. And no one believes him! Alone and exhausted, he no longer knows who to trust. He wants to put faith in Nessy, the first woman he has allowed himself to care for in years but he also knows his interest in her will mean certain danger for her, too.
Nessy is attracted to Mitch’s handsome looks and love for his daughter. He seems like a man of principle and warmth. But Nessy’s world is thrown into turmoil when she discovers Mitch's past. She is soon torn by her feelings for him and the extremely dashing and charismatic Dutch who is brother. But Nessy's heart tells her Mitch is the one for her and she courageously decides to trust him and help the desperate fugitive.
This suspense novel really highlighted Mitch and his struggles to keep his daughter safe. He is really the star of the story. While Nessy does play a large part of the plot she plays more of a supporting role, even nurturing role. But rather than being disappointed I found this made Mitch's emotions and mission to protect Julia all the more stirring and involving. This is because I loved Mitch's character. Mitch defines the word heroic. He was noble, honest and always tried to do the right thing (even if it caused him more trouble). I immediately fell in love with him!
The 2 main characters’ love was sweet and precious. I was so happy for Mitch. He was one of the most deserving heroes I have ever read. I loved how much he was willing to sacrifice for his daughter. If only there were more men like him!! I loved how much he was willing to sacrifice for his daughter. In contrast, the heroine was very loyal and caring but seemed less vibrant and interesting character.
The hero in this story was one that will melt the heart of any reader. The author weaves a twisted tale that kept me entranced until the gripping end.

An avid knitter and soap opera fan, she now resides in Nashville, Tennessee with her husband and daughter.
Mitch Turner has been on the run since his daughter was born, concealing a truth so horrifying it could endanger not only both their lives, but anyone they dare to associate with. After accidentally getting involved with a family in Tennessee, Mitch finally gives in to his eleven-year-old daughter, Jules, and agrees to stay temporarily in the quaint community. But when a series of murders occur in their newfound home, leading straight Mitch, and his daughter is ripped from him, he only has one person to turn to. Neesy Brown has made her share of mistakes, especially in the male department, but this one tops them all. Except she's having a hard time believing the quiet, charismatic man, who loves his daughter so much, can be who they say he is. Mitch knows it's too dangerous to lean on Neesy, but she's vowed to help them, and his deep-buried emotions are surfacing, causing a rippling attraction they can't deny. As a cunning predator pulls them deeper into his sick game, the price of losing could be all Mitch holds dear.
I gotta hand it to Annie Solomon, she's an author who knows her conflict like no other. It adds tension, dimension, and page-turning intensity. Starting in Tennessee, moving to Florida, and ending in New York, the setting was well-crafted and researched, drawing you into the surroundings. The hero and heroine were believable, wanting me to root for them all the way. The villain was as masterful as he was demented. I still have chills. But behind all that was a sweet, emotional tale about two broken souls in need of redemption. Brilliant. This book had a strong secondary cast as well, adding to the emotional punch. A must read!

This was a very well written book, and I wanted to like it more than I did, but I am a wimpy reader. I don't like to be scared when I read. And this was one scary book.
The hero is driving down a road when he and his daughter see a girl on a bridge. She jumps off, and he saves her, and when they take her home, the girl's parents won't let him say no to their gratitude. Especially when his daughter wants everything they offer, especially an end to what has apparently been a way of life, roaming the country. The newspaper publisher/reporter comes by to take his picture as a local hero.
Because his daughter wants to stay so badly, the hero agrees to take the offered garage apartment and a job as cook at the diner, against his better judgment. There's a waitress at the diner, one of those good-hearted souls with bad judgment about men, who likes him. And he likes her too. But he's got these secrets.
There's an FBI agent who pops up, and Solomon weaves his story in well. There's an icky murder in the prologue of the story, and periodic scenes with the murderer. I don't like reading villain points of view. (I told you. I'm a wimp.) The hero is arrested and charged with murder when the local reporter turns up dead the afternoon he was going to meet with her, and things go straight to heck. There's a seriously icky serial killer (I do not like books about those people) and a child in peril and several "oh they're going to escape--no they're not" moments. It was all very thrilling and exciting and scary, and that was exactly the parts I didn't like. Don't get me wrong, it was a GOOD book. Very well written, exciting, edge-of-your-seat stuff.
I just don't like that kind of thing. It's way, way too scary for me. But if you're a less wimpy reader than I am, I bet you'll just love it to pieces.
Mitch Turner has been very careful for years, living under the radar. He pays cash for everything, requests cash under the table for odd jobs, and doesn't stay very long in one place. His daughter Julia yearns for a home, a dog; some stability. It breaks his heart he cannot give it to her, but he dare not risk it.
When Mitch jumped in a river to rescue a jumping teenager, he doesn't know what compelled him. It's always been his motto of not getting involved, staying under the radar. But saving that girl tagged him a local hero, and unfortunately for him, his paper in the big city papers.
Julia begs him to let them stay in the town awhile, and he promises her until Christmas. He gets a job at a local diner and things seem to be going along nicely, until a killer makes his presence known in town.
All clues point toward Mitch, and he's arrested. Julie is ripped from his arms, and he will do anything to find her and keep her back. Neesy Brown, a curvy and feisty waitress, that works at the diner, wants to help Mitch. He cannot afford to fall for her, but he will take any help he can get. Neesy always seems to fall for the bad guys, and even though he is suspected of murder, she can't help herself. Just something about her draws her and she convinces herself that he is a good man. The two could see a future together, including Julia, if they can outsmart the killer and find Mitch's daughter before it's too late.
Annie Solomon is a master at her craft. The tension is on point from the very beginning, and the suspense builds and builds throughout, until a shocking and riveting climax. Romantic Suspense lovers will enjoy this deftly blended novel of desire, intrigue, and danger.
Ok here we go. I just finished this book and I had no idea that I would get caught up in it like I did. This story grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn't put it down. Some of the romantic suspense that I have read are good but not great and I end up disappointed when I am finished because I feel that they are missing something. I either feel that I wanted to get to know the characters better or something is thrown in that is just out of place and at times it may have been a great story and then it gets too far fetched to believe but not with this one. I started reading "Two Lethal Lies" not really knowing what to expect. I have never read anything by Annie Solomon before and I must say that she has done a wonderful job with this book. The characters are just fantastic. You get all the details of the characters that you need to just get to know them so well and are drawn into a story that just pulls at your heart strings. This story takes you on an emotional trip that you will not soon forget. You have a chance to feel what they feel and go through the mistakes that have been made in their lives and then overcoming the difficult situations they find themselves in. This book has a great mix of murder, romance and suspese put together with such a great group of characters that you will find it very hard to put down. It is one that you won't have figured out in the beginning and you will be glad you read it. If you haven't read a good romantic suspense for a while you will want to read this one for sure.
Before I decided to read this book, I hadn't heard of Annie Solomon or Two Lethal Lies. While browsing several blogs I ran across a few reviews for the book that were both positive and interesting. I decided I would take a chance on a new author since I love romantic suspense. I'm really glad I did.
Two Lethal Lies is a story about Mitch Turner and his young daughter Julia. They've been on the run since she was an infant, and they find themselves in the small town of Crossroads, Tennessee after Mitch rescues a girl from drowning.
I really liked Mitch; he's a good father and hard worker. He's kind hearted and an all around good guy. Julia is eleven and has only ever known traveling with her dad from one place to the next. It's in the town of Crossroads where she decides to put her foot down and basically demands they stay and live there.
This story is well crafted, the plot was excellent. I found myself turning page after page to find out what happened next. The villain was a quite a character to say the least. When I think of him, I think deranged. He definitely has some problems.
I found a few situations within the book that were a little bit unrealistic, however, I was able to overlook them and can honestly tell you that Two Lethal Lies is truly an enjoyable read. So, if you like romantic suspense, then give Two Lethal Lies a try. You'll be happy you did. I'm looking forward to reading more titles by Ms Solomon in the future.
Two Lethal Lies was a really suspenseful novel that kept me guessing until the end.
Mitch Turner has been on the run with his eleven year old daughter, Julia for years. They have never stayed in one place for longer than a few weeks always in fear of their lives. After saving a young girl after she jumps off a bridge, Mitch finds himself accepting the family’s offer to stay in their guest house. Julia convinces Mitch to stay in the small town for a few months after she bonds with Sara Jean and her family. Their lives seem pretty care-free until a couple of murders take place and Mitch becomes the prime suspect. Julia is taken from him and Mitch must become a fugitive to find his daughter and keep her safe from a cold and twisted predator.
I liked Two Lethal Lies. It kept me on the edge while I was trying to figure out what Mitch was running from. The reveal was disturbing and made me gasp. I really enjoyed Mitch’s relationship with his daughter, Julia. It was heartwarming to see how close they were to one another. I liked Neesy a lot and wanted her to get her happily ever after. She had bad luck with men and deserved to be loved. The relationship between Neesy and Mitch started late and seemed to take a back seat to the suspense and mystery of the story. I would have liked a little more development of their romance. Two Lethal Lies was fast-paced and full of suspense and action. I give this romantic suspense novel, 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Mitch Turner has been on the run with his daughter Julia for eleven years, bouncing from town to town, trying to avoid any attention. While driving thru Crossroads TN, Mitch does a heroic act that causes him to become acquainted with a local family who offers to let them stay in their carriage house. Julia bargains with Mitch, she wants to make some friends and go to school, Mitch gives in even though he knows the risk of staying in one spot to long. Mitch gets a job as a short order cook and meets Neesy Brown, even though Neesy has sworn off of men, she becomes enamored with Mitch's kind caring attitude. Just when Mitch starts feeling comfortable in his new home the local police come after him accusing him of murder, one in the town and one that took place 11 yrs ago. Lies he told are exposed. Threatening everything he holds dear, and the only person who he can turn to for help is Neesy. How will he protect Jules from behind bars, how can he protect her from the person they have been running from for eleven years ? This is an amazingly well written book with several plot twists, very well thought out characters, the hero and heroine are so down to earth normal making them very easy to relate to, and a killer who will send chills down your spine. A suspensful story with murder, mystery and a tale of two people drawn together to save a child who find love in the process. Reviewed for Readers Favorite.

Single dad Mitch Turner is trying the best he can to care for his daughter, Julia. It isn’t easy. Mitch is currently unemployed. He and Julia travel from place to place. While driving Mitch stops a young girl standing on the outer edge of a bridge. Before Mitch can stop her she dives in. Mitch jumps in after her and rescues her. Mitch takes the girl home and when the girl’s parents learn that Mitch is unemployed, they offer Mitch and Julia a job and a place to stay.
Neesy Brown works at the diner. She has had her eye on Mitch for a while, though he is too busy being involved with his daughter to appreciate Neesy’s advances towards him. When the police arrest Mitch for the kidnapping of his daughter, Neesy comes to Mitch’s aid. She believes Mitch is innocent and wants to help. Though is Mitch really innocent?
Two Lethal Lies is the newest book from author, Annie Solomon. This book was so good, it helped get me out of my huge reading stump. I read it in one sitting. If you are a suspense fan like me then you will really enjoy this book. I really connected with the characters and felt something for them, which helped drive this story and made me full invested to see what would happen next. I found Neesy to be a very likable character. She had a great personality and was smart. Smarter then people gave her credit for. The only thing lethal about this book is that you will want more!
I'm hooked - new to me author and I'll definitely be reading more from her.
Life on the run isn’t easy but Mitch has tried his best to give his daughter Julia all that she needs; and sometimes an eleven year old just needs a place to call home. When Mitch and Julia find themselves in the small town of Crossroads events conspire to keep them there. Julia couldn’t be happier, it’s Mitch who’s torn between giving Julia what she wants and high tailing it out of town before the law can catch up to him.
I found myself fascinated by this book, trying to figure out why Mitch was on the run and how he would ever clear his name. Mitch is a character that is painted with clean, clear brushstrokes. You get a sense of him not only as a man who has learned to look over his shoulder, but how everything he does, every breath he takes is about keeping Julia safe, cared for and loved.
The villain is super villainous and where Mitch is painted with a certain delicacy, the villain Dutch is painted with broad and massive strokes.
I liked Ms. Solmon's voice and her ability to create tension without sacrificing the nuances of each character. A good romantic suspense with interesting characters.
Life for Mitch Turner and his 11 year old daughter Julia seems simple on the outside. They move around frequently, work when they need the money and "homeschool when they can". They both keep a backpack ready to go by the front door of wherever they are living. Just in case. Just in case the past catches up to them for they are not who Mitch says they are. But the day they passed through Crossroads, TN, little did they know a simple act of heroism on Mitch's part would forever change their lives and that secrets from the past can't be outrun forever.
In her latest book, Two Lethal Lies, Annie Solomon has written a solid plot complete with characters that feel so real, a chillingly evil and sick murderer, and a love interest for Mitch. All these ingredients make for a thriller that is almost impossible to put down. Once I started it, I was hooked immediately and my interest never once flagged. I just had to see how it turned out. Kudos to Solomon on this one!
Disclosure: A review copy of Two Lethal Lies was provided by the publisher through Good Reads first look program in exchange for an honest opinion.
Wow, Mitch is the epitome of the tortured hero and since I tend to like books with tortured heroes, this was up my alley. However, there's a lot more to this one. The hero, heroine and child were all believeable, flaws and all, and I liked how each was courageous in different way. Although the books is under 300 pages, the author was able to develop the characters and let the reader get to know them and thus feel so invested in their being saved and have a HEA.
The plot was exciting, and unpredictable and also made sense and had a logical progression. I never mind suspending my belief when reaidng romantic suspence, but it was really not necessary in this title. Another nice feature is that there were a number of scenes that surprised me but they made sense, because the author established the characters and circumstances so well. The climax of the story had me at the edge of my seat. The resolution scenes were very touching and satisfying.
I should mention the villain is really disturbing as are his crimes. I liked how the reader knew what he was doing gradually, but without having to read through too many gruesome details.
I really liked this book. The action was good, the characters believable and the pace kept me wanting to read more. The only thing that kept me from giving 5 stars was the romance. To me, the romance was like an after-thought. It was as if Ms Solomon said to herself, 'this is a good story but what can make it better? I know... I'll add some romance.' While the h/h did have good interaction and seemed to match well, their romance seemed too quick to happen and didn't really flow for me. I think the book would have been better if she would have left the romance to blossom at the end of the book, if she would have put it in at all. Regardless of my opinion on the romance, I do recommend this book for those that like thrilling suspense.
In this romantic suspense novel, Solomon grabbed me by the wrist and pulled me from Tennessee to Florida to New York, never letting go. The story never pauses, never takes a break from the tension.
As a couple Neesy and Mitch work in fiction, but in real life I would have been yelling at Neesy for being an idiot, telling her to stay away.
I won’t say I felt emotionally connected to the characters, but the plot and the writing kept me involved, kept me turning pages, kept me picking up the book when I should have been cooking.
All I can say is AMAZING! I won this book in a giveaway and I'm so glad I did. From the time I picked it up I didn't want to put it down. The devotion of Mitch to his daughter Julia was unbelievable. All the things he did to protect her and the things he did to get her back, the twists and turns, the romance, everything was perfect and kept you wanting more! I will definatly be looking for more books by Annie Solomon.
I just started reading this book---and found it hard to put down so far. I've really been drawn innto the story of Mitch and his daughter. I stayed very interested the the book until about 3/4 of the way through---then some of the situations just seemed to get a little bit too unreal and the action a little forced. Overall, I'd give this book a B- as a romantic suspense novel.
Two Lethal Lies was a well-written story, but it just didn't resonate with me. Labeled "romantic suspense," there was very little romance in the book. The mystery was very interesting, but was pretty far-fetched. The motivation of the villain and other characters was never really developed or explained. Overall, however, this was a quick interesting read, just not to my taste.
This book is well worth reading. Normally I am not one to like this genre, although I could not put this book down. I found both the plot and the characters to be well rounded, and eventful. A must read.
I hated putting this book down. While I didn't buy into the hero being physically messed up as much as he was described to be and still do the things he did, the intriguing plot kept me turning the pages.
I'll definitely check out Ms. Solomon's other works.
I have had two great reads from Annie Solomon, beginning with ONE DEADLY SIN and today finishing TWO LETHAL LIES. Solomon weaves a marvelous plot, and isn't afraid of writing truly evil villains. I will pounce on the next Annie Solomon release!
A touching story about a father's dedication to his daughter mixed with a little suspense and mystery. Kept me guessing as to his secret for a while. A few predictable parts. Overall not a bad read
