Rate this book
In Dark Angel, we meet vampire Daniel Wolf who lives a life of emptiness and sorrow. Daniel roams on the outside of society with no contact with humans other than to feed. He has lived for nearly five hundred years alone and it is not until he lives in New York City in the modern world when he is contacted by his guardian angel.

Daniel struggles to believe anything this woman says to him, having been alone his entire life. But when his angel utters the name of a man who will be Daniel's companion, it makes Daniel become aware that perhaps he does not have to be on his own.

In the end, Daniel meets his match, Brock Hart, and finds the love of his life.

Dark Angel is based on the characters of The Vampire and The Man-Eater.

This book's like the missing piece to The Vampire and the Man-eater. I really wanted more of Daniel's pov there and here it is - perfect.

I've no idea how it stands as standalone story, but as a part of Vampire series it's very good.

To be fair, this story is a supplemental free short for the G.A. Hauser's Vampire series. I didn't read the original book, The Vampire and the Man-eater, so I am clearly missing a lot of the context around this short story.

As a standalone story, however, I can only give this one star. There is no character development even though this story spans four centuries, and the meeting between Brock and Daniel is nothing special or romantic. There's nothing about Daniel that endears him to the reader. He's a soulless killer that finally meets someone he's sexually attracted to. There's no period of redemption or anything that allows us to see Daniel as anything other than a Beast. It's basically like any other trick or one-night-stand that someone picks up at a bar, but without the sex. It was really too short to be anything else.

If you read The Vampire and the Man-eater (which I have not), you may feel differently about this short.

What just happened? I've read a short story before that was only 25 pages and I received a beginning, middle and end. This one was a stream of consciousness of a slut getting laid. Or at least a vampire searching for any hot body to drain. The self loathing from the vampire was a puzzle. The old lady and Brock Hart were equally puzzling. I think I may have missed the first book and this is just a teaser?

The summary given above is pretty much the story in a nutshell. Too much emo angst and not enough redemption. I also felt the main character had an emotional jump after the guardian angel visits which felt random (assumedly it was caused by the guardian angel's visit...but I never got that feeling aside from timing).

Choppy and confusing, leaving too many questions. Even short stories need to have a beginning, middle, and end -- a story.

What the hell? You call that an ending?

Backtrack.

This is a paranormal short story, apparently part of a series. I didn't know. I just downloaded it because it was free. However, since I did download it, I had to read it to reduce my TBR mountain.

It has vampires. I'm tired of vampires.

It has tired vampires. I'm tired of tired vampires.

It is a fast read. It has no plot and no sex. It makes you wonder what the point of this story is, especially if you have not read any of the other stories in this series. As a stand-alone, it failed.

You wonder who Jayden and Blake are. You wonder if this "guardian angel" has a purpose aside from letting Daniel know of Brock. You wonder what attracted Daniel and Brock to each other. You wonder how this centuries-old, cold-blooded killer of men turned into someone who cries because of another man's passion within 5 minutes of meeting.

As a buddy observed, it had a somewhat stream-of-consciousness style to it; there were few clues that a scene was transitioning from one to the next. I found this too fast, too short, and too cold for me to enjoy it. The only thing I liked about this was Daniel acting like a proper vampire. 1 star for level of enjoyment. 0.5 star just because.

This story left me with more questions than it answered--seemed more a teaser than a complete short story.

I wish there had been more information about a few of the characters, and a bit more world-building, if only implied. Also, certain details didn't strike me as realistic--most notably that an ages-old vampire, who primarily preys on sexy men in bars, doesn't realize gay bars exist in the modern world until he stumbles into one.

I wanted to get into this story but I couldn't--there wasn't space for the swaths of time it covered to be done to completion, and done well. Perhaps if it had been longer, or the earlier section removed, I'd have liked it more.

A rather Confusing M/M vampire(??) short story.
I assume that he is just a predetor who eats and sleeps.
i assume that he finds his soul mate.
i assume that was supposed to be a "happy" ending
my mother always told me never to assume because assumptions are usually wrong, well going by that theory, i assume i didn't read it then.

it was only 25pgs which was a big disappointment...though it was free so i really shouldn't complain. if it have of been 200pgs with a full plot and timeline...it think i would of really enjoyed it..it had great potential....the m/m story would of made me love it even more...i think there was only one kiss in the whole of this book.

Hmmm I'm confused on how I should rate this. At first I really liked it! Then it started to lag a little and caused many questions to come to mind. And right when it was starting to look up again it was over! Leaving me completely dissapointed but still wanting more.

A great MM, paranormal quickie. I enjoyed meeting David. He really does need more than he realizes. And who doesn't love a tortured soul?
Fast paced, well developed main character and story line. Quite enjoyable!!
I look forward to reading more of G.A. Hauser's work :)

Really short. And violent. And bloody. But ultimately hopeful and inspiring. Ms. Hauser manages to convey quite a message of comfort in very few pages and with an almost thoroughly unlike able protagonist. Impressive work.

Short story, not a lot to tell, but realizing it's part of a series, I'm going to give them a go.

I felt rushed in this story. There was no development between Daniel and Brock. Just that Daniel knew Brock was his savior.

Not much to look at. Very short-story. Not much development. Interesting characters but ended before actually making sense.
