Barbie can be anything she wants to be. And she knows every career is important in its own way. One thing's for sure, being a good listener, caring about others, and taking pride in her work all add up to success no matter what Barbie does!
When her young patients start showing up with in-line skating injuries, Dr. Barbie springs into actions. Soon everyone is having fun on wheels and keeping safe, including TV star Super Glider!
I found a whole bunch of these little Barbie books at my library right after reading a nonfiction book about the doll, so I just absolutely couldn't resist.
i chose this as my second book because i wanted something comforting and slice of life from the 90s.
and in terms of the doll dioramas it succeeds! love all the clothes and the little details in barbie's house/office. the writing, however, was not great.
the book is supposed to inspire young kids to wear safety gear while they are skating. it had the opposite effect on me. as i read 57 pages of nothing but dr. barbie lecturing kids/celebrities about skating, every rebellious cell in my body was inspired to buy a pair of skates and wear them without a helmet, kneepads, elbow pads, and wrist guards, just to spite her.
everything the characters said in this book was kind of unrealistic ("wow i had no idea!" says super glider, the adult celebrity skater who i am sure has been told to wear a helmet before, "i guess i could be an example of safe skating for kids everywhere"). also thought it was ridiculous that none of the parents in the book were forcing their kids to wear safety gear.
barbie is a pediatrician in this book, so i'm going to be watching very closely to see if that's the case in any of the others.
Wholesome children’s book about the importance of safety. My youngest daughter took this out because of her love for Barbie. It was less about being beautiful and more about practicing safety while skating. Barbie helps her sister, another young girl Erin and the super star pro skater Super Glider. Fast and fun beginners chapter book.
