For an English class I was assigned to write a review on a "poetry book". Poetry is defined by google as "s form of literature that uses aesthetic and often rhythmic qualities of language—such as phonaesthetics, sound symbolism, and metre—to evoke meanings in addition to, or in place of, the prosaic ostensible meaning." So it would be logical to think that any book that meets the quality mentioned above could be defined as a poetry book. And while I do not believe that Michael Sullivan III (and the books additional contributors) intended for Intermediate Algebra 2nd Edition (No CD) to be seen this way, poetry is subjective, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This book brings forth thousands of narratives, with unique characters in each, whos lives are filled with unique (usually math based) problems. The swift narratives grab your attention, sometimes making you think for entire quarters of an hour over less then a paragraph of text. It gorgeously incorporates repetition throughout its multiple narratives, and allows you to make up your mind about the problems and thoughts of the various characters within the text. Its gorgeous verses have grasped my mind and my heart, and ending the book brought relief to my heart and very being. It has changed my life, and I believe anyone who reads this book will be filled with a multitude of emotions. I could recommend it to anyone who is willing to not acknowledge that it may just be a math textbook.
