Who among us does not sin? And who among us does all that is required of him in the religion?
It is an undeniable fact that we all have shortcomings; what distinguishes some of us from the others, what raises some of us above the others, is that the successful ones among us are those who repent their sins and ask Allah to forgive them.
It is truly encouraging to know that the door to repentance is always open. Glad tidings, then, to every Muslim who constantly and consistently hastens to repent to Allah and to ask for His forgiveness.
Learning how to repent is learning how to live for the sake of Allah. Each one of us must repent every single day of his/her life. Through these beautiful stories you would understand the true meaning of repentance and how it feels to be close to Allah.
A righteous man when asked about his pivotal moment said:
Back in the days when I was a young man I wouldn't hesitate in doing any sin withing my reach. One day I saw the most beautiful woman i have ever seen and i indicated to her to come to me intending to fulfil my lust. She looked nervous and was practically trembling by the time she got near. I felt sorry and assured her; "Don't worry I won't harm you. What's your story?" I asked. But hearing my voice made her shake uncontrollably. Nonetheless she spoke. Her 3 little daughters haven't eaten anything in last 3 days and sheer desperation and pity for them brought her to think of doing this low act for the first time in her life. I felt something for this woman that I never felt before, genuine sorry. So I took her address and took money, food and clotes from my house to hers. I explained all that to my mother on returning. She told me to record this first good deed in the book of deeds. She knows I record all my evil deeds in a book. So I went to my book, but found it empty except a single line:
Verily good deeds remove evil deeds. (11:114)
I immediately raised my hand and said, "By Your Might and Majesty, never again will I disobey You."
A good book to read if one feels down in terms of his emaan. It encourages one to leave off a life of sin and to embrace Allah as his Master in all of one's affairs.
One problem with this book is that references are not cited as to where these stories have been compiled from although you may read one or two stories which you have known before but otherwise you'll have to do your own research if you want to authenticate anything.
Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu I am writing this email for added information and edit in your book "Stories of Repentance" by Muhammad Abduh Mughawiri. In the story titled - Hope until the very end- it says that the dua taught by Imam Ali is not mentioned clearly. Sorry to correct you, but it is mentioned by the name of "Dua Mashlool". After reciting the dua, paralyzed person saw Prophet S.A.A.S, in his dream, and got cured. Kindly complete the story for the sake of Allah. JazakAllah. Dr. Sujit Kumar Shukla aka Mohammed Ibrahim.
