Andi Marquette was born in New Mexico and grew up in Colorado. She completed a couple of academic degrees in anthropology and returned to New Mexico, where she decided a doctorate in history was somehow a good idea. She completed it before realizing that maybe she should have joined the circus, or at least a traveling Gypsy troupe. Oh, well. She fell into editing and publishing sometime around 1993 and has been obsessed with words ever since, which may or may not be a good thing. She is a co-owner and co-founder of LGBTQ publishing house Dirt Road Books.
These stories are not lesbian romance but adventure stories of women pirates. Some good, some not so much. My personal favorite was Lost Treasure by R.G. Emanuelle.
Disclosure: I have a story in this so I got a free copy and am biased.
That said, I thought the writing in these stories of women pirates was excellent. Which leads me to wonder how the heck my story got chosen. But to question Andi or Bobi's judgment on that makes no sense since they chose very well for the other stories. So that just leaves me with one of those pleasant mysteries of life, right up there with why does my wife love me?
Not all the stories are by or about lesbians. I had to get over that at first, as I found myself flipping to the author bios to see if the writer was a lesbian. Then I read a terrific story by a man, then another. The stories progress through time and I did find myself skipping around because the historical stories were pretty gruesome. I thought the contemporary ones brought a fresh take on the topic and enjoyed them the best. I ended on a high note, "HMS Nefarious," which made me laugh, so that was nice.
