Yesterday's Memories

Rate this book
The day has finally come to close this heart-felt, time-traveling series. We have grown to love both the Clark and Grainger families, in both the nineteenth century and the twentieth century, but their two worlds are about to collide. They cannot go on living as they have been forever. How long can Fran and Dora live in a world they were not born to? How long can the sisters hold on to their lives in the 1800s before the Universe takes charge and returns them to their rightful places? These are the questions they both fear, as well as the husbands they love so dearly.
Both Fran and Dora are aware of the risks of staying, but they are unwilling to give up the loves of their lives, Luke and Wade. What are their options? How will the families handle it if one of them gets sick again and begins to fade away to a world of which they are no longer a part?
In this twelfth book of A Slip in Time, we take a look back at each person we have met along the way. Many of them have incomplete stories so you will be able to see where they are in a more ‘modern’ society. Each chapter focuses on a particular couple, showing us where they came from and where they are now. And finally with one particular couple we see how the circle is complete. Will it end as you had suspected, or will you be surprised, perplexed, or even shocked? Read Yesterday’s Memories to find out the unbelievable ending to the life of our favorite time-travelers.

Jane O'Brien discovered her love of writing at the age of ten when she wrote her first ten-chapter book in pencil on notebook paper. She passed it around to all of her friends at school and told them she wanted to be an author. And that planted the seed.
O'Brien's career life has been varied. She was a piano teacher for over 50 years, a librarian, and a professional proofreader. She is also interested in genealogy, having worked on her own family tree, as well as her husband's, for over 40 years, which helps to color most of her novels.
Today, as a grandmother, Jane is finally fulfilling her lifelong dream, after successfully having her thirty-fifth book published, which includes two trilogies, one six-book series, three Christmas novellas, and two Amazon best-selling time slip series. She lives in West Michigan and writes romance with a little history, mystery, and family entanglements, all set in her part of the state.
The stories she weaves are about family and the intricate connections of relatives, past and present.

It is a bittersweet ending to this series. How could it be otherwise? No one lives forever.

But this ending is not what I expected. How can I complain though. Through 12 volumes of this series I became attached to each and every character. Each ending almost always ended with a cliffhanger, which filled me with angst about what would happen next! This time Jane O'Brien outdid herself as she wrapped up the lives of generations of Clarks and Graingers

Jane does a brilliant job of revealing each couple's situation. And it is very satisfying in that respect alone.

So I can't complain I guess. Though I became attached mostly to Franny, She was the first to experience the phenomenon of time travel. Struggling with living in a century that lacked all the common comforts and inventions of modern time. The ending was real and logical, but unexpected. Though life is often not fair as we suffer many losses before we leave this earth.
A tearful goodbye to this series:(

The End

I feel so deflated to not have something to look forward to in this series. I like the fact the author took every significant couple and somehow finished their stories the way it could only happen. Looking forward to another series which I know will be just as good but I feel like I lost a bunch of friends

Just awesome.

I liked how this book gave closure to all the couples. Most books leave you hanging. I truly loved this entire series. I can't wait until the new one starts.

I want to be a Grainger when I grow up!

The characters in this series have become like family. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading about them…can’t wait to figure out which of them will be in the next series!

Say Goodbye

This last book is a wrap cup of this series. Some story lines are put to rest, all the characters are caught up to date so I didn't find it as interesting as the other books. However, as far as I understand, that was the authors intention and she did it as well as she could.

I am looking forward to a new time travel series that I believe is supposed to debut in the Spring of 2023.

Thanks Jane for some great reading.

Fare Thee Well

How could I give less than 5 star rating to the final book in the series? And what a clever way the author wrapped up the series, giving a chapter to each couple, eventually weaving the chapters into a time line of events. It’s nice to know, for the most part, how life turned out for so many characters. I’ve enjoyed the series. I’ve particularly liked reading about living life in the late 1800’s. According to the things I’ve looked up, the author is historically accurate.

Ok, so you broke my heart, I was sobbing at the end ! My one complaint was they never got to meet in the present day ! Even if she was old he would have still loved her ! Not mentioning names as I don’t do spoilers but dear author you know who !

Saying goodbye is never easy...

I loved this read! Catching up on all the characters and couples we met along the way. Finding out how far they've come since Fran and Dora started this whole wonderful adventure. A snap shot if you will, of their lives after we left them last...in many cases years after the fact. So many of these characters felt like friends along the way. I'm sad to say goodbye, but ever hopeful one or two may pop up again in another series someday? If you have yet to read any of the books within this series, DON'T start with this. This particular book, as gratifying as it was...only worked if you've *read* the previous books and are well acquainted with these brilliant characters. However I HIGHLY recommend checking out the entirety of this wonderful series!! What's not to love after all- adventure, romance, a wee bit of magic and mystery, family mystery, intrigue, of course time travel and so much more take place within these books. I can't wait to see what the next series will be like ❤. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up indeed!!!

I've read every book in this series, they are all great reads, good whole sum stories with meaning and heart. These books carry the reader through time and make you feel like you're truly there, part of the family. You will laugh, cry, get angry, sad, and happy. You will fell the pain of loss and the happiness of triumph. But I've got to admit, I was crying my eyes out at the end of this book for more than what happens in the book. I was also crying for the end of the series. BUT, when I read that there is a new spin off series in the works it made me smile! 😊 💖

Glorious time travel stories

I accidentally got the book "Skye" part of "Branches of time" and realized it was a sequel to "The slip in time series." So I decided I needed to read the "Slip in time" books first. Which I did in about 2 weeks. I absolutely could not put this series down until I had read all 12 books. Each book is the story of a bygone era which show us a simpler times, but having their own set of problems similar to some of the problems we have today. Cannot wait to start the series branches of time.

Can we put a 20 star for this series?

Wow, what a way to bring the ending to this series... I had fallen in love with the people who walked through the pages and don't want to let them go. I really wanted a different ending and therefore I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that in the new series that follows maybe another time crossed romance will get to be fulfilled! Amazing writing!

Yesterday's Memories

This series was such a fabulous story of family, faith, love, adventure, suspense, loss and happiness. How Jane O'Brien wrote the characters forward, backwards in time and forward again deserves an academy ward. I hate its over, (I already miss everyone) but it was so worth the journey she took us on. Thank you!

Love It

What a fantastic set of books! The story flowed smoothly and the people all were memorable I liked the way the last book ended. Explaining what happened to the individual couples. It's a definite read if you enjoy time travel romance stories.

Great wrap up

I am always sad when a series ends but I wasn’t this time Jane did such a good job at reviewing the lives of the characters that I felt they had a wonderful life. The ending was perfect. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next

The “Slip in Time” series by Jane O’Brien seems to be ending. And by “seems to be ending”, I mean
“Are you sure you really have to end this beloved series, Author O’Brien?”

*sigh* Ok, I will review “Yesterday’s Memories” Book 12 as if it’s the finale in the series, but I’m crossing my fingers…

“Yesterday’s Memories” ties up the events of this bestselling series in a lovely and loving way. As readers of the series know, a family quilt has enabled certain members of the Clark family to travel from the present time (or from even more in the future), to the Michigan of the 1800’s. So, it is fitting that this book is written as a “word quilt”. Every chapter features different members of the family, so that by the end of the book, we have pieced together the stories of most of the family. What a special way to sum up each character and leave us satisfied that all is well.

If you’ve read past the of end each book to the supplementary material, you know that the Author lists all of the characters- which are in the hundreds by this time. And we get to say “Farewell” to many of them. Part of the book focuses on lovers Jay and Sadie. Their story is a moving and heart-rending one. Dora and Wade and Franny and Luke are the main characters of the series, and this book finds them making a big decision.

Yesterday’s Memories is stitched with the same warm humor, compelling romance, and history that we have loved in all the books. Reading “Yesterday’s Memories” is like leafing through a well-loved photo album and enjoying the big events and small moments that make life beautiful.

Time slip travel is fascinating. Many thanks to Jane O’Brien for giving us 12 rich and wonderful books. I highly recommend Yesterday’s Memories (And even if this series is truly over, I’ve overheard that a new series is coming.)

Many thanks to Author Jane O’Brien who graciously shared an advance review copy with me. This is my honest review.

A successful series ending

I will miss the Clarks and Graingers. Their entangled families and mysteries were a great adventure containing two of my favorite interests, genealogy and time travel.
I'm looking forward to Jane O'Brien's next series!

Well my fellow readers we finally have reached the end of our journey back and forth in time. I will truly miss the Clarke, Grainger, clans. I loved everything about this series and the characters and hate to say goodbye, but it ran its coarse like the years in anyones life. I look forward to the spin off series and see who it will be about. Jane didn’t make her characters perfect she gave them flaws and missteps We had a journey of love , loss, heartbreak and more love we saw an exciting time of inventions. We saw our beloved characters grow change with those times all while vibrantly picturing the past.
I’ve always loved time travel but I particularly loved this time period and place the stories were set.
The only reason I couldn’t give it 5 stars was the “ Pact”. I can see most people will like and think it romantic, that’s not me because that’s to close and personal.
Thank you Jane for this lovely series and wonderful group of characters you brought to life.
Best wishes In your future series , I’ll be waiting.

Book warning: Suicide.

During most of this final book, I was thinking I would five star rate this closure. Last couple chapters, nope, not ok with the ending. Why go there. We also never find out if they disappear, how will those Daniel kids life close.

Otherwise, loved how all the couples stories closed. Sadie and Jays was unexpected, not how I wished, but still a good wrap up.

Overall the series is about an average 4 rating. The first few books had too much sex, descriptive body parts, womanizing men, one instance of date rape, and domestic violence.

But along the way, lovely women to know, Fran favorite main character and Jessica favorite supporting character.

I do wish books had parental warnings like TV shows so you knew.

I will miss this series

So sad that the series is ending though I truly understand why. I will miss all the characters that I have come to know especially the Graingers. Looking forward to the next series. If anyone hasn’t read the series but is looking at these reviews to see if they want to invest the time then I would highly recommend reading them and in order. It is a delightful series with characters that you can connect with. I particularly like learning about the town and how it and it’s residents changed over all these decades. I will miss Fran, Dorie, Luke and Wade.

Spoilers! Don't read review.

The ending breaks my heart. I really wanted a scene where everyone met up in heaven with there true love. I also wanted a scene where Jay & Sadie met each other in his time. To have Sadie watch his wedding & Bob having to keep the secret of his Landlord was sad. I'm grateful that Sadie never got reputation of her relations w/ Jay. I also hate that in death technically Dora & Fran don't exist in there time. I also don't like the fact we don't have a completion of Daniel and Ginny Kesler and their kids. Overal, I still love all the characters and the beautiful story.
Can't wait for the next Saga!

Sorry to see it end.

This book has done a very good thing in letting us know what has happened. Sad thing that it's the real end and there is no more coming. Thank you Jane O'Brien for this book. But now you can write separate novels on the children as they age and have their own children. No more time travel unless it's maybe J or Bob traveling to the 80s or 90s. Fran and Dora may play a part in whatever their time was just not really know the old man.

A good read.

I have now finished the series. As in all book series each book recaps the story so a new reader can get the story line. I just skimmed until we were back to new events. By books at the end of the series I was skimming more than reading. A cute story line though. Easy reading. You can skim my thoughts, you get it. Smile. Thank you Jane O'Brien, I enjoyed your books and would read your work again. Hopefully a stand alone novel.

My favorite series comes to an end!

As always, I read this book in one night! This is my favorite series of all time! But I do have to say...I'm disappointed in the ending! I thought the series would have ended more 'climatically!'
Its as though Jane O'Brien was too tired to come up with a better ending! I still rate it five stars because of the 'guts' of the book was lovingly written just like the prior 11 books!
God Bless!
