Verne wrote about space, air, and underwater travel before people invented navigable aircraft and practical submarines and devised any means of spacecraft. He ranks behind Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie as the second most translated author of all time. People made his prominent films. People often refer to Verne alongside Herbert George Wells as the "father of science fiction."

Exquisitely written, beautiful use of the English language. Even though I love reading, there were a lot of words that didn't say much. I know these are classics. I read these to my kids, and it was a little too boring for them.
So far I have read two of three...Around the World in Eighty Days and Journey to the Center of the Earth. Both were most enjoyable. His characters all always most entertaining, and witty. Anyone who is familiar with his prophetic imagination, has to indulge in at least one of novels. You'll find it refreshing to read good clean adventure stories.
