Expelled from his provincial boarding school, Punk Rock rebel Kenny Silvers returns to 1980s London where he renews his friendship with former 'partner in crime', Eddie. Kenny's downward spiral - from scholarship student to squat-dwelling delinquent - forms the backdrop to a powerful 'rites of passage' tale exploring themes of alienation, drug addiction and urban survival through gritty dialogue, colourful imagery and a rich vein of black humour. This is Catcher In The Rye for Generation X.
While reading the synopsis of this book two things grabbed me immediately, the first was the Punk Rock reference and the second was The Catcher In The Rye(my teenage favorite book)reference. Two subjects that are dear to my heart and Simon Corbin did them extreme justice.I purchased this book immediately and I'm glad I did because it was such an excellent read!!Simon tells the tale so well that I felt transported back in time to an era I can completely relate to on various levels,he gives us a look at the London punk scene through the eyes of a troubled teen who truly feels that his internal suffering gives him the authority to act out in the most horrendous ways. It's a coming of age story of a Punk Rocker with serious issues.I loved this book!!
