The Formorians, led by the gigantic Queens, have breached humanity's last line of defense! Elaine, now Sentinel Dawn, and the rest of the Sentinels need to rush to the front lines, to attempt to stabilize the situation, and bring the 2500-year long war against the Formorians to a grand finale. And yet, beyond them lurks an even greater danger. What could've possibly driven the Formorian Queens and Royal Guards out of their lairs, into human territory? Will Elaine and the Sentinels have to pay a terrible price to save humanity? Or will civilization be smashed, and humans scattered to the winds? And what, exactly, are the Dragoneye Moons?

My interest in this story is waning, and the rating is really 2.5 stars, but I rounded up because the writing in this is better than average.

Because my interest in the story started to diminish, I probably won't rush to read more. I do like to complete stories, though. And I am reading it free online. I think the main character needs to mature more to be more interesting. It was OK when the story started because she was only 16, and I read this as YA. But as she aged, over the course of events, I wanted more changes in her. She is living quite a violent, adventurous life and I would expect this sort of combat experience to harden her more. Also, the world in which this takes place is so patriarchal that it would irritate me immensely to be a strong woman in it, and I don't see why she is so accepting.

Well that escalated quickly...

The Dawn Sentinel continues to impress.

Spoiler review follows...

The Formorian War concludes after Arthur's poisoning kills a Queen, which causes the remaining ones to charge the front lines.
Epic battles, some sentinels and associates are lost/missing.

Elaine and Hunting go to make sure no Queen Eggs are left, only to find... A Giant Wooden Wall. They meet the dwarves who freak out that Hunting is a Void Mage (prone to randomly exploding according to the elves - something readers heard of in the Iona interludes).
However, they love Healers so Elaine the Diplomat deploys herself.
The first thing she finds out: she has been living in the dead lands and it eats XP. All of the Dwarves are higher level than her, however because of that she (and humans in general) have more time to earn achievements which result in higher quality classes. She confirms this by talking with others about the color of their classes. Her Dark Green one is impressive to the Light Oranges.
She learns of many differences in their culture. They don't fear the D word (Dragons) and in fact are planning to go kick one out of its lair to steal its treasure. Elaine has some concerns.

The border guard says they will take her to the capital and she likes that idea. They go on a circuitous route and the wood loving dwarves show her many fine things, with the last being the Dwarven Tower that reaches into the sky.

They go to sleep and Elaine wakes up in a warzone! The dragon is here and boy is it pissed. It starts attacking everything, wipes out the tower. Multiple guardians show up, including Yurok (also mentioned in the Iona interludes).
Elaine has to choose her arm off after it gets hit with dragonfire and jumps into a mine ventilation shaft to escape the Guardian battle.

First up, the action and war themes in this was amazing. The battle in the latter part of this book is one of the most epic battle scenes. Just think awe and dread together. Superb.

On the other hand, I absolutely HATED that there's a gap between book 3 and 4. All of those events Elaine participated in as Sentinel Dawn that the scribe wrote down, we never get to see. It doesn't exist. There's some overlap between the last point and this book, but no. Throughout the story Elaine will refer to particular incidents, something a stranger said or taught her in a town, or skills she had dropped or evolved in the past. There's so much character development on Elaine's character that we miss out on, and I really wanted to experience her interactions with the other sentinels. It would have made me care about them more. It's frustrating, because I think that would have been one of the strongest books. The start of Beyond the Wall, reads like it was trying to imply Elaine is older, more damaged and she has to make one last stand. I imagine this is something more common in Adult fantasy, and as someone more interested in YA and NA I wasn't a fan.

Battle scenes are epic though, and I want a short story from that lone healer's perspective when

Main character has some personality issues.

I like books and I like the plot + world, but the main character is really starting to grate on me. I thought she'd grow up as she got older, but she's honestly gotten less pleasant. She's not very nice, doesn't make friends, is entitled and unsympathetic even when her companions suffer great losses, we are 4 books in and she has like 2ish friends and like 7ish people she cares about? I'm just not sure what I'm supposed to care about in the books at this point, and then she meets a new civilization and just talks nonstop about how she's a bad diplomat when she doesn't even have to do anything diplomatic stop mentioning it and just have interesting interactions with the new characters. I feel like this whole book was just elaine complaining about stuff. The guardian lan'kat fight was awesome, the interlude should not be the last 9% of the book imo. Probably still going to read the next one and just pray that elaine is less lame but hard for me to recommend the series with such bad character interaction and main character personality. Good for a pure power leveling fantasy if that's what you are into but for that I'd recommend something more like Azarinth Healer. Hoping I'm wrong and this is just pointless conjecture going forward but feels like it'll be a trend.

Storyline is still captivating however lowered to 3 stars for the following reasons.

Like others have already said, Iona... The sudden change in POV was aggravating. If Iona’s POV was introduced since book 1, I would’ve been fine with it. I felt like her perspective could’ve been separated into a side novella or written on a blog or something, giving readers the option to read it and not forcing us to. I’m sure the story will come together (hopefully by the next book) but I found her passage unneeded since it was just 90% of action that didn’t contribute to the main story.

Something I’ve noticed since last book, the author is getting too wordy. There are things written that didn’t need to be said. The passages, sentences, paragraphs could’ve been left out imo. I found myself skimming and getting mildly annoyed as I continued reading.

Other than a few pet-peeves I plan on finishing the series.

The end is still annoying, but my favorite fmc is amazing.
I absolutely love how Elaine is growing. Being a Sentinel is forcing her to grow up emotionally and yet she also has quite a bit of wisdom since she has some knowledge of her past life. The losses of loved characters had me crying. The Guardians were beautifully terrifying.
I dislike what seems like a time-skip forward to follow Iona. She may have grown up, at least some, at this point, but swapping viewpoints is frustrating. The teasing hints about the characters the series originally follows infuriates me. Still, I've grown to expect the add on and to tolerate it. Perhaps I can learn to like Iona too since she too is a strong and driven individual with a Vow of her own.

The fourth book in this series was absolutely amazing. The initial build up to the humanity threatening Ants in the pervious book did not disappoint in the final climax of the arc. From the non stop two week long endless hoards, to the Massive earthquake caused by Magic, and finally the prayers of Demos answered has angles rained from the sky. Speaking of sky, that dudes an idiot, and deserved to die.

Then came the dwarves and the massive dragon and guardian fight. Phenomenal…. No words. Elaine almost turning into putty after a massive fall in the mines. I’m so glad I have the next book waiting for me. 10/10 would recommend

Worst of the series by far. This book meanders and drags with a fraction of the action and excitement of earlier installments. Additionally, there was one very odd, very out-of-place preachy section on consent that broke the immersion something fierce and soured a good chunk of the book for me.

Additionally, this book was FAR too long at ~750 pages and DESPERATELY needed a good copy editor to come along and cut at least a third of the crap out. This is a chronic issue with Royal Road books since they're released one chapter at a time, but it was particularly acute in this book.

I'm still invested in the overall plot, so plan to continue, but this one was an absolute clunker.

Help me read more books

Alass, the goblins and the ants are not to battle *grumble* that could have been a whole series of fantastic battles. Nonetheless, the story is still holding my attention, and the second main character got a bit more air time in this one, so looking forward to the time the two main characters meet, that should provide some interesting storytime for sure.
I'm off to read the next one in the series now. I'm finding this tale to be an interesting one.

I don't think I have ever hard stopped on a series so quickly. It took ~2 chapters, , to kill my interest in this story. The MC still acts like a care-free child, despite the story progressing 5 years through numerous self-described "life & death" situations. The moment she started interacting with the new military character and they took no issue with her childish behavior. Her self-centered inner monologue about how everyone's death was "all her fault". Completely broke my lagging interest in this story. Incredibly disappointing.

Really, really enjoying this series. It takes awhile to get used to the point system, as its so much higher than most other books, but that's such a minor issue.

This book went in another new direction with meeting dwarves (more like traditional fantasy elves) and Dawn being alone again with the friendly dwarves in their territory. We learnt that where she had been was within a "dead zone", meaning her experience was essentially being halved, so now Dawn is essentially going to power level compared to her peers

Excellent Series

This story of a woman reborn on a magic System world with partial Earthly knowledge was fantastic. Indentured servants and women without rights Roman like government. Her best friend at 8 dies because she didn’t follow her earthly knowledge, so she makes an oath that multiples her healing powers. The oath makes her the highest powered healer, but also puts her life endanger

Elaine is a sentinel, doing sentinel things. This one seems to have some major changes vs earlier books, but they seem to flow naturally from what's come before.

The end sees Elaine possibly embracing who she is? I'm holding off on five until I confirm it's finished, so I'll have to wait and see.

Again, this book should have at least a 4 star. Instead the author gets dinged for stacks of either crossover chapters or interlude chapters which have no bearing on the main story. If you are 4+ books in and the interludes are still not connected at all then you are just trying to shoehorn in another book/story and it's terribly distracting.

Just like it sounds the Famorians have penetrated the wall that had always been the last line of defense between civilization and utter chaos and death... With the wall broken it's up to the Sentinels to stop them. With Sentinel Dawn/Elaine keeping her teammates alive if she can, and if possible explore beyond the wall.
Join the craze, and grab the books.

I've read some interesting reviews about book 4. Some think the author has lost their way a little. Several seem to dislike the interludes. For me, the series is pushing along splendidly.
Will you spot the little nuggets dotted about, in both the main story and the interludes?
Quite excellent stuff, I absolutely love it.

A fun story that develops a nice set of characters without taking itself to seriously

A fun story that develops a nice set of characters without taking itself to seriously. The iseki part didn't overwhelm the story, had a meaningful impact, but didn't make the mc inexplicably better for no good reason.

Great but long-winded

So far, not the best in the series (which I think book 3 is currently). Story dragged a little during the Formorians/healing and Dwarven portions.

Iona continues to confuse me as I'm not sure of her importance to the story. It also seems she lives in the future? 🤷

For the most part I enjoyed reading this book. MC seemed to have grown up and then she reverts to being an fn idiot. Just because she sees some books. Then she starts telling a foreign country a bunch of classified stuff. On the other hand the battle scenes were great. Enough so that I’ll go onto the next book

level up

A few centuries of stalemate broken by one soul reborn with a fraction of Terran knowledge, go Team Earth.

The System in this world allows users to customize their skills and classes, which makes sense if a omnipotent computer overlay can peek into your very essence and hand out skills based on your actions, choices and temperament.

I need more!

The books continue to evolve in wonderful ways. They don't feel like they're dragging on like some do after books 2 or 3 and I'm always begging for the next book!

Can't wait to see where Elaine goes next :)

Plenty of action, but predictable.

The storyline was pretty predictable. What is interesting is how she introduces the "fantasy characters (dwarves, elves, dragons, etc....
I'm interested in finding out how she survives being trapped.....!

This is rather boring.

The initial combat is drawn out and the transition into the next stage highlights the same issues from the first two books. Issues I had thought to never see again. Overall this series feels like it is stagnating.

Another great book!

Love the world, it has healers, valkyries, dragons, dwarves and more. A very fun read! Interesting twist around the dead zone. Can't wait to read the next book in the series!

I really enjoy these books, but the author always manages to throw a spanner in the works before the end of the book. In this case it seemed that the story just got away from the author. I wasn't sure of the dwarves, but the battle with the dragon and the guardians was definitely way over the top.

Packed with action and character growth, this installment introduces an intriguing new danger that adds depth to the story. While some pacing and concept development could be improved, the book remains a thrilling addition to the series.

Worst book so far and so disappointing

Seriously so much writing and so little said. Honestly the worst part of the whole series is the absolute load of filler with the stats filling the last part of almost every chapter to the beginning of the next.

I'm still enjoying the series but it's hard to see where things are going... because of the addition of Iona. She's so different to Elaine, but their Class and Skills are quite similar with the moons and all. The dwarves in this story are not what I expected... they seem more like elves.

Awesome

This was undoubtedly, an awesome addition to the series that had the heart pumping, and had me at the edge of my seat to see what was about to happen next. If you enjoy the previous books, there is no doubt you will have a very good time with this one.

continues to impress

This story reads like an epic and I love the point of view changes being used to advance the timeline. It adds an element of a puzzle to the reader to divine how far out the information that is being presented is from. Well done!
