This is still one of my favourite books. It captures the particular lonliness and desparation of trying to be part of that shiny swinging single iscene n the world of waterbeds, pool parties, and breezy soft rock hits.
DUPLICATE REVIEW (I lost access to my original account): this is such a strange book. I felt a bit manic while reading it, though I kind of understand why near the end. The author is a screenwriter and that helped clear up some of how the narrative was written, but it wasn’t until about page 150 or so that I realized it was written this way because our dear Ms Fortunee Dundee was currently testifying as the defendant to a double homicide. Once that realization hit the manic pacing and all the blah blah blahs make much more sense. I’m not overly sure what the story wanted me to take away from it. I just know I don’t hate this story, just that I am rather neutral on the whole experience.

I just couldn't get into this. Part of my problem with it had to do with the writing itself. It annoyed me. Also, the narrator and maiden herself, Furtune Dundy, was a giant pain in the ass. She wasn't a virgin because she had any sort of belief system, and I found this problematic. She was just, well, kind of frigid. Not a narrator a lustbucket such as I could understand at all.
I so HATED this book.....Lily Tomlin LOVED it & for the life of me I couldn't figure out WHY. I found the main character to be neurotic, abrasive and annoying....the kind of person you would jump into heavy traffic to cross the street if she were a real person just to avoid & the style of writing was annoying too. Can't believe I managed to finish this book at all.......
