This is not really 3 book series, it is one book split into three parts. This is one reason my rating dropped so dramatically. The "books" do not stand alone, if you don't go ahead and buy the other two, the first one just stops mid thought. I find that annoying. The publisher should have put the story out as one book. It seems like a ploy to get more money out of readers by releasing them this way. That being said, I really enjoyed the first two installments. This third installment left me feeling kind of "meh". Suddenly all the characters needed to be nicely paired off. The two main characters are split up in an angst building aside that was totally unnecessary to the rest of the plot. The worst part of the last installment was the inclusion of one of the most poorly written sex scenes I have ever winced my way through. It was painful to read. I don't know who edited this section but the great chemistry that was built between Infamous and Arrowsmith is shot to pieces in short order. It was just awkward and not sexy at all. This is a case where, in my opinion, the sex scene should have been left out. Add that to the almost $15 you have to pay to get the full story and it ended up just being an ok read for me.
The third and final part of this saga picks up exactly where it left on the second book. Our nine incredible members of the Court have finally some clue as to who is behind the incidents happening in Dargoth and why. And just like the previous two books, this one as well starts with a power kick of action, attacks on all fronts, hideous and crippling losses, even death among the fellowship. The pace is fast and furious alternating between fights, unexpected attacks, and even more unexpected relationships forming between our guys...
The final part of the series where the group ends up divided most of the book and a really long battle scene towards the end. I felt like I enjoyed this series more when the characters were together. I also wasn't really all that impressed with the bad guys and angst of missing members throughout the book. Overall I enjoyed this series alot but I the ending just didn't engage me as much as the first part of this book. I was also unimpressed by the increase price for each book as you move through the series. So that if you want to know the end you have to pay $2 more for the final book than you did for the first one.
This installment of the series had me on the edge of my seat more than once, and I'll admit that I cried more than once. I was honestly that caught up in the tale, and I've come to care that much about this assortment of marvelous people.
I really don't want to spoil this book for anyone, but I found the resolution of this story line refreshingly well done. Evil is defeated, yes, but not entirely, and that's a touch of veracity that I truly appreciate. There's happiness, sorrow and hope, and a small part of me hopes that Alyx Shaw will return to Dargoth one day, and let us know what comes next.
This whole series is a re-reader for me. I am going to let my progress comments stand in for my review. This was freaking fantastic and I am so happy that I was left with an ending that left possibilities....
