This book is a collection of poems themed out along the cycle of life. Life is more than "happy love." All of life is made up of experiences that each person unique. These poems after my notes.
I used to love reading poetry quite substantially in my early juvenile years, but recently, I begin to revolve around on other genres. But every so often, I come across new poets, but they didn’t really have that much of an impact to me until then. It all changed when I got the chance to read Rewritten Lives by Jerry Elliot Howard. When I first got it after a very close friend of mine recommended it to me, I was delighted to read a poetry book after so many years, and although I didn't precisely know what to expect, I still gave it a try. "Rewritten lives" by J. Elliot Howard is a moving and heartening collection of poetry about the lessons that our everyday life teaches us. The book is very inspirational in nature. The poems are easy to read and follow and it will take you on an emotional journey that for some of us might have experienced in our own personal lives. Reading them will not take long. But I am convinced that the utmost benefit of this book is from reflecting on the meaning of life that is given in the poems. Although there are sometimes downhearted subjects that these poems enfold, the book altogether is very life upholding and has a quiet air of satisfaction about it. As Howard tells stories of meaningful relationships, you can profoundly get the range of his sentiment and the extent of his emotions. This book fills your heart with a sense of obligation for the simple pleasures of life and all those little things that we often take for granted without really cherishing them and grasping their value. J. Elliot Howard did a really wonderful job on this book and he writes so heartfeltly. He certainly knows how to write poetry and delivers. His poetry talks about every aspect of life and is very insightful. With quite several pieces in this work, he has put himself and his feelings out on the line for everyone to see. They enlighten life lessons, teaching us what is important to him and what is not. I would speak favorably of this book to any reader who loves poetry and even to those who do not. I would highly advocate that this book is read one poem at a time, leaving enough time to soak up the message and contemplate about what that message may mean to the reader.
I will be the first to admit that sometimes I have a difficult time dealing with written poetry. Having inundated myself in spoken word for nearly ten years has spoiled me when it comes to poetry. I need to hear a voice, to feel a cadence in order to get a poet’s rhythm. I actually got that with J. Elliott Howard’s Rewritten Lives. Howard has a distinct poetic voice that he gets through not only with his words but also with the way he presents his words. He plays with different fonts and line justifications to make you see each poem individually. However, the content of his poems is what keeps it unique. Howard includes some very touching homages to family members, most notably his grandmother, friendship, spirituality and life in general. He establishes his own voice while finding himself striving to place himself in the company of more well-known voices in the world of poetry. By the end, I found that I did not miss the sound of the voice and other audio components I frequently find in spoken word although I do believe Howard has the ability to perform in the spoken word circuit. For now, I’ll enjoy the book.
You Have Always Been More Than My Grandma, You Are My Friend!
Jerry Elliott Howard is not just a poet; he is a very good poet. Mr Howard is deeply in touch with his body, his spirit, his belief system, his family, and his friends. It is very difficult to write about a life, especially your own. It`s even harder to do that well in the form of poetry and prose; Mr. Howard has done just that in "Rewritten Lives". He writes so heartfelt about his grandma in 'Do You Remember'. I read that over and over, thinking about my Gramzer and yes, I cried. The deep love he has for his wife is evident in 'My Rose'. That really pulled at my heart strings. It meant very much to me; I can relate to that in a very special way. 'The End in the Beginning' is a very deeply moving poem about his belief system (and mine), our Creator. So by all this I mean to say that good poetry should touch you in a very meaningful way. Mr. Howard has done just that so he is a very good poet. Please keep writing Jerry, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
"Rewritten Lives" is good for meditational introspection of life's many highs and lows. J Elliot Howard's voice is stronger, more sincere and rings truer when he writes of grief and sorrow than when he writes of love and joy. For example, the piece `Forever is Not Enough' lays bear the author's heart and speaks of a love beyond death while `The Way We Love Each Other' has definition in the present with no past or future. Many of these works are epiphanies or sudden realizations that the author chooses to share with an audience but his real literary talent is in what he chooses to withhold.
The `Rewritten' then is in these realizations or the acknowledgments which must be confronted. Without it, life continues without change and with less meaningfulness. I would recommend this collection for persons seeking change in their perspective of their life or those confronting conflict.
I really enjoyed reading this poetry book. I especially like the first poem about his grandma I loved the way it just grabbed me from the start but there are so many more from this book that does the same thing. These poems are so meaningful and personal and I was able to relate to them as they kept making me think back about my grandma and different things that have happened in my life. GENUINE was another that just makes you kind of think and I really liked COMING HOME and MY ROSE. I just had the feeling throughout this book that it is just so heartfelt and just down right get the emotions flowing. If you love poetry and even if you don't read it much I feel that you would enjoy this read. I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end.
I relearned lessons about myself as I put the book together. The poetry really flows and the life story as the background really carries the book. I love the way it reads.
