Batting Stance Guy: A Love Letter to Baseball

Rate this book
Batting Stance Guy never expected he would become a YouTube celebrity, racking up more than two million views, landing profiles in The New York Times and USA Today, and even scoring an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman . But when a friend and neighbor started capturing this man’s unusual talents with a video camera, that’s what happened. With uncanny precision, Batting Stance Guy can mimic any baseball player he’s ever seen, and the results will take you back—to the game last night, or last year, or in 1980, or anywhere in-between.

I remember when the Batting Stance Guy hype train started, in the early days of social media. As it turned out, he was just like me; a lover and great imitator of all things baseball. I remember mimicking stances as a kid - who among us didn't want a swing like Ken Griffey Jr - and memorizing every stat on the back of every card I encountered. These days I still love baseball, just with a different fervor.

Anyways, I've had a few back and forth chats with Ryness on social media since then - nothing incredibly special, but enough to know that he is also a wonderfully kind soul. I eagerly purchased this book when it came out and rifled through it, reliving old stances and finding fun little quips and bits of humor that I did not expect. Easily a 5 star review!!

Good reading to you.

I think this is a fantastic idea of a book. I grew up a huge baseball fan, and as a kid, loved to imitate my favorite players batting stances while down in the sandlot. This book brought me back to those times, and had a lot of my favorites even from back in the day, like the Julio Franco. It's also clear that Gar has a real love for the subject matter too.
If you like the nostalgia and intricacies of baseball, then you'll find something to enjoy in this book.

Anybody who finds a way to use both Sixto Lezcaino AND Slayer in a book deserves Five stars. A fun, harmless read through a dude's love of baseball.
