This is one of my all-time favorite throwback romances, and I still pull it off the shelf when I need something comforting and real. The characters in Kate are beautifully grounded—flawed, warm, and easy to love.
What really makes this one stand out for me is how the heroine’s illness is written. It’s not just a plot device—it actually deepens her relationship with the hero. Their love grows stronger through vulnerability and shared strength, which makes their connection feel so authentic.
If you like quieter love stories that still pack an emotional punch and feature characters who feel like real people, Kate is a hidden gem worth revisiting. Definitely a nostalgic favorite I’ll keep returning to.
It wasn't the best book, the dialog was a bit much,I now hate the word "Darling". However it's an easy read, and like all books it puts you in a different world when you read it however far-fetched the scenarios are. (I can see this becoming a lifetime or a hallmark movie)
