DNF in 3%
Hackneyed dialog, ham handed emotional manipulation, clechés, and a general feeling of low effort.
I'm guessing this is supposed to be a 'light novel' but this is bad even for that low bar.
(Honestly, I'm more surprised that every book with a big boobied pirate elf on the cover isn't this bad. I've gotten very lucky picking books by the cover art up till now)

This is fun! It's a good adventure with some titillation, and it's a good tale.

I hate the MC with unimaginable passion. He is an idiot and completely incompetent. He literally said he was going to kill the villian and then proceeded to threaten her 3 time and literally gave up every chase to kill her only to her his ass kicked after ever threat. I was rooting for the villian to kill him just to end his stupidity and incompetence.
Also it fells like the auther spend touch time explain everything that's happening but doesn't understand scale. Everything is either near instantly happening or the MC is standing there with his thumb up his but for minute on end patiently waiting for the villian to finish what they are doing be for trying to stop them. I get the the auther is going for more comedic action scenes like the Pirates of the Caribbean movies but they come off poorly paced and infuriating, at least to me.

When the audiobook just started, I wasn't so sure that I was going love this one. But I actually REALLY enjoyed it. The narrator did a wonderful job! All the characters had their own separate voices and personalities. The audiobook side of this was wonderful. The actual story, the reason I didn't think I would like this as much as I did was because occasionally if gave me the feeling that it was written by a 16 year old, mature kid. But still a kid. lol But I was wrong, mostly. It was a great story! Very original in so many ways. Definitely good enough to see what is going to happen in book 2! I can't wait!

I saw a male who whilst abusing a trans female essayist, complain to her that I list channels with trans female creators. Ah, to be a Snowflake (unselfaware, blissfully vicious, US male tittie-baby). A trigger warning then.
The channels which I mention include the archaeologist, lesbian, socialist, older, Irish, librarian, chess master, physically challenged, trans, sewist, agricultural economist, singer, comedienne, lumber yard worker, military historian, bi, physicist, model, het, Indian, communist, tall, miniatures painter, queer, art historian, farmer, science fiction commentator, chemist, redhaired, marine biologist, boardgamer, asexual, fashion historian, sociologist, cosplayer, engineer, news presenter, married, Bahamian, intersex, redhaired, WOC, boater, miniatures gamer, psychologist, architect, Canadian, pensioner, autistic and other creators known as Women.
Almost as threatening are the channels which include other BIPOC, anarchist, Danish, other neurodivergent, zoologist, photographer, anthropologist, other LGBTQIA+, ginger, miniatures gamer, Australian, military board gamer, train modeller, other chemist, movie critic, science educator, miniatures landscape builder, New Zealander, archaeologist, culture critic, wood worker, philosopher, Estonian, musician, film maker and other creators known (outside the US) as Human Beings.
If the voices be not stilled, seek emergency therapy and\or learn a new skill, such as reading and\or seek out the nearest Mahayana temple.
When overwhelmed by thoughts of these clods, I remember the short early days interview with the middle age teacher who organised and led her civilian anti-tank team in hunting Russian armour North of Kyiv. With their example how can I not continue. Glory to Ukraine. Glory to the Heroes. Crimea is Ukraine.
Once more unto the book, dear friends. When I first read several of these harem series by other writers, I did not know that was a subgenre. Accordingly my judgement was flawed because I measured them against my expectations from fantasy and science fiction.
I did not have issue with their prose but with the worldbuilding. Given my recent realisation, I feel better about these books. Direct labelling of any book is a good thing and a pleasant surprise on Amazon.
I do not question the book's steampunk credentials. The book has the perfect background universe for a male harem fantasy. The male gaze is the theme of the first chapter of the book. The characters at book's start are cardboard, the only real person being the main character. It does serve to provide insight into the main character.
The premise was a nice change of pace but also allow a writer to avoid serious world building. The prose was on point for the story type and far better than many romance fantasies. That is not to say that character depth was given much thought but it really is not needed here.
I did not read very far but I suspect that the book will be a pleasant read, if you are in the mood. As a guilty pleasure, you could certainly do worse. It seems a solid bit of entertainment which seems prepared to deliver exactly what it promises.
I can not guarantee that there will not be cringe, male-female interaction but I suspect that it might not be bad. I was more looking for a serious steampunk story and did not stay long enough for the book to deliver that.
As a whole, the harem subgenre do seem much better written than other Unlimited selections. They seem also better thought out than the romantasy or romance titles beloved of Goodreads.
It was pleasant to be able to write a favourable review for an Amazon selection, science fiction or other. Unlimited caused me to abandon new print offerings in favour of video for the first time. I smile at the likelihood that any Amazon\Goodreads employee would actually understand the term editor.
I visited YouTube more than three years ago in search of science fiction commentary. After discovering those, I found hobbyist, documentary, lifestyle and essayist channels before the most pleasant surprise of BookTube. 😍 These channels host communities of cosmopolitan, thoughtful readers with varied interests and love of all things bookish. I promise that they are environments far different to that of Goodreads.

Goodreads discourse does not exist. As example, three years ago I originally wrote a short negative review of Powers of the Earth by Travis Corcoran. The book originally blurbed as akin to a Heinlein classic, was a sad rehash of "Atlas Shrugged" set on the Moon.
The story is that of heroic efforts of a rich twat to enlist the military in overthrow of US government in order that he not pay taxes. I am communist but found that premise unhealthy, dangerous and now prophetic.

vocal advocate for the return of chattel slavery (popular US stance with the building of
new forced labour prisons for the federal detainees, unhoused, van and auto residents including children inciting no outrage from media, either Parry and openly celebrated by tens of million citizens. Their existence now criminalised, there seem no pathways to release, which given US history, the pronouncements of Republican legislators and president put generationaL enslavement on the cards.
There are professional furnaces included in these prisons for disposal of "biologicals". These sites are under control of two agencies which have never been required to even record deaths in custody or explain missing thousands. The general reaction combined with the enthusiasm of 25% of citizens, response to this program follows the same trajectory as that of Germany in the 1930's from horrible detention to death camps. Steven Miller and others have stated that more than 100 million people must be removed. The Nazi solution to population reduction also seems on the cards.),

My brief hope that a contribution to the discussion of US economic decline beginning with massive expenditures of the Vietnam War, did not materialise. I took some small comfort in the many layers of irony.
The final comment was delivered by Claes Rees Jr aka cgr710 now ka Clayton R Jesse Jr. After referencing the content of my last message exchange with wrote a Goodreads friend, he declared that They had "won" (?).
I discovered that They and many allies had launched a year-long deluge of vile sexist and other anti-human attacks at channels which I mentioned and it continues still.
Sadly, the. early teen boater and her mother, astrophysicist, model builder, pensioner and other female creators were not impressed.
Despite that failure, They did succeed in delivering a perfect self-portrait of the Snowflake (nasty, cowardly middle class US man-baby) to a broad multinational audience, as well as adding to the world's overabundance of ugliness.
On balance, quite the Victory. Should the above behaviour cause discomfort,, there are BookTubers to suggest saner, safer,true reader forums.

Ominous music begins. 😊 The comment gangs are prevalent in the science fiction, romance and romantasy spaces. I have seen it most at work in speculative fiction. Their activities include the doxxing, hacking, threats, stalking and more.
Amazon do not acknowledge these incidents, nor discipline deranged members, punish writers who encourage Them or dismiss Kindle madlads who enable both.
A BookTuber wrote a script to Goodreads to have it removed and be threatened with membership removal for the "hate speech". In typical American practice only addressing anti-human speech or writing is labelled the "hate speech". The Republican Party did not create that standard but rather than tacit Democratic Party approval, openly applauded it with the reward of majorities in congress and a Nazi admiring leader.
Another BookTuber challenged an Amazon double billing and the corporate response was blocking access to her cloud library and bricking her Kindle.
My threshold experience was the sharing of my limited message history with diseased members following my Powers review. That was followed by a favour being requested through Pine Gap Centre of Australian Intelligence to interrogate the one friend whom I occasionally messaged.
Amazon never acknowledged the crimes committed. After we shared that experience widely, Amazon reacted. No explanation or whatever but my page format and options were restored after years to normal, all comments masked to others, all Lurkers whom I'd not been Allowed to remove were disappeared, the constant keyboard resets ended, the periodic 24 to 48 bricking of my Kindle ended and the rest.
I did receive a mysterious note that Kindle no longer support Goodreads and the icon was removed. Such a relief.😂
A seventh EBay ex-employee who had been the Global Chief of Security or something like was sentenced for harassment of a couple whose small ecommerce site was deemed unkind to EBay. EBay was forced to pay millions of pounds.
With the increased freedom of US data firms given by their Government, I expect more such incidents.
I suggest precautions. Remove any personal information from profile and avoid messaging. Remove the Lurker, those who never post. They are likely gang monitors or employee dummies.
With the Goodreads penchant for alterations to customer pages, the screenshot of the odd, ugly or threatening are quite valuable. These should suffice.
Kindle are a more serious exposure. Do Not use Kindle Email, Files, Calendar or Contacts. Amazon Sign Into customer email with neither permission nor notice. Make of that what you will.
Do Not "purchase" Amazon ebooks. You own only the device and if a Kindle, that is conditional. If purchased, download immediately. There are BookTubers to suggest other e-book and tablet vendors or alternatives to ebooks altogether.
Silk searches should be innocuous and non-critical.
If you are possessed of a certain courage, stern responses to writers of the vicious comment do startle and frighten Them. It is good to not forget that these madmen, both employees and members own no morality but are Cowardly sociopathic US man-children. Enlightening are videos of MAGA or Nazis at play. Ominous music ends. 😊

The channels which I mention include the archaeologist, lesbian, socialist, older, Irish, librarian, chess master, physically challenged, trans, sewist, agricultural economist, singer, comedienne, lumber yard worker, military historian, bi, physicist, model, het, Indian, communist, tall, miniatures painter, queer, art historian, farmer, science fiction commentator, chemist, redhaired, marine biologist, boardgamer, asexual, fashion historian, sociologist, cosplayer, engineer, news presenter, married, Bahamian, intersex, redhaired, WOC, boater, miniatures gamer, psychologist, architect, Canadian, pensioner, autistic and other creators known as Women.
Almost as threatening are the channels which include other BIPOC, anarchist, Danish, other neurodivergent, zoologist, photographer, anthropologist, other LGBTQIA+, ginger, miniatures gamer, Australian, military board gamer, train modeller, other chemist, movie critic, science educator, miniatures landscape builder, New Zealander, archaeologist, culture critic, wood worker, philosopher, Estonian, musician, film maker and other creators known (outside the US) as Human Beings.
If the voices be not stilled, seek emergency therapy and\or learn a new skill, such as reading and\or seek out the nearest Mahayana temple.
When overwhelmed by thoughts of these clods, I remember the short early days interview with the middle age teacher who organised and led her civilian anti-tank team in hunting Russian armour North of Kyiv. With their example how can I not continue. Glory to Ukraine. Glory to the Heroes. Crimea is Ukraine.
Once more unto the book, dear friends. When I first read several of these harem series by other writers, I did not know that was a subgenre. Accordingly my judgement was flawed because I measured them against my expectations from fantasy and science fiction.
I did not have issue with their prose but with the worldbuilding. Given my recent realisation, I feel better about these books. Direct labelling of any book is a good thing and a pleasant surprise on Amazon.
I do not question the book's steampunk credentials. The book has the perfect background universe for a male harem fantasy. The male gaze is the theme of the first chapter of the book. The characters at book's start are cardboard, the only real person being the main character. It does serve to provide insight into the main character.
The premise was a nice change of pace but also allow a writer to avoid serious world building. The prose was on point for the story type and far better than many romance fantasies. That is not to say that character depth was given much thought but it really is not needed here.
I did not read very far but I suspect that the book will be a pleasant read, if you are in the mood. As a guilty pleasure, you could certainly do worse. It seems a solid bit of entertainment which seems prepared to deliver exactly what it promises.
I can not guarantee that there will not be cringe, male-female interaction but I suspect that it might not be bad. I was more looking for a serious steampunk story and did not stay long enough for the book to deliver that.
As a whole, the harem subgenre do seem much better written than other Unlimited selections. They seem also better thought out than the romantasy or romance titles beloved of Goodreads.
It was pleasant to be able to write a favourable review for an Amazon selection, science fiction or other. Unlimited caused me to abandon new print offerings in favour of video for the first time. I smile at the likelihood that any Amazon\Goodreads employee would actually understand the term editor.
I visited YouTube more than three years ago in search of science fiction commentary. After discovering those, I found hobbyist, documentary, lifestyle and essayist channels before the most pleasant surprise of BookTube. 😍 These channels host communities of cosmopolitan, thoughtful readers with varied interests and love of all things bookish. I promise that they are environments far different to that of Goodreads.

Goodreads discourse does not exist. As example, three years ago I originally wrote a short negative review of Powers of the Earth by Travis Corcoran. The book originally blurbed as akin to a Heinlein classic, was a sad rehash of "Atlas Shrugged" set on the Moon.
The story is that of heroic efforts of a rich twat to enlist the military in overthrow of US government in order that he not pay taxes. I am communist but found that premise unhealthy, dangerous and now prophetic.

Their existence now criminalised, there seem no pathways to release, which given US history, the pronouncements of Republican legislators and president put generationaL enslavement on the cards.
There are professional furnaces included in these prisons for disposal of "biologicals". These sites are under control of two agencies which have never been required to even record deaths in custody or explain missing thousands. The general reaction combined with the enthusiasm of 25% of citizens, response to this program follows the same trajectory as that of Germany in the 1930's from horrible detention to death camps. The final comment was delivered by Claes Rees Jr aka cgr710 now ka Clayton R Jesse Jr. After referencing the content of my last message exchange with wrote a Goodreads friend, he declared that They had "won" (?).
I discovered that They and many allies had launched a year-long deluge of vile sexist and other anti-human attacks at channels which I mentioned and it continues still.
Sadly, the. early teen boater and her mother, astrophysicist, model builder, pensioner and other female creators were not impressed.
Despite that failure, They did succeed in delivering a perfect self-portrait of the Snowflake (nasty, cowardly middle class US man-baby) to a broad multinational audience, as well as adding to the world's overabundance of ugliness.
On balance, quite the Victory. Should the above behaviour cause discomfort,, there are BookTubers to suggest saner, safer,true reader forums.

Amazon do not acknowledge these incidents, nor discipline deranged members, punish writers who encourage Them or dismiss Kindle madlads who enable both.
A BookTuber wrote a script to Goodreads to have it removed and be threatened with membership removal for the "hate speech". In typical American practice only addressing anti-human speech or writing is labelled the "hate speech". The Republican Party did not create that standard but rather than tacit Democratic Party approval, openly applauded it with the reward of majorities in congress and a Nazi admiring leader.
Another BookTuber challenged an Amazon double billing and the corporate response was blocking access to her cloud library and bricking her Kindle.
My threshold experience was the sharing of my limited message history with diseased members following my Powers review. That was followed by a favour being requested through Pine Gap Centre of Australian Intelligence to interrogate the one friend whom I occasionally messaged.
Amazon never acknowledged the crimes committed. After we shared that experience widely, Amazon reacted. No explanation or whatever but my page format and options were restored after years to normal, all comments masked to others, all Lurkers whom I'd not been Allowed to remove were disappeared, the constant keyboard resets ended, the periodic 24 to 48 bricking of my Kindle ended and the rest.
I did receive a mysterious note that Kindle no longer support Goodreads and the icon was removed. Such a relief.😂
A seventh EBay ex-employee who had been the Global Chief of Security or something like was sentenced for harassment of a couple whose small ecommerce site was deemed unkind to EBay. EBay was forced to pay millions of pounds.
With the increased freedom of US data firms given by their Government, I expect more such incidents.
I suggest precautions. Remove any personal information from profile and avoid messaging. Remove the Lurker, those who never post. They are likely gang monitors or employee dummies.
With the Goodreads penchant for alterations to customer pages, the screenshot of the odd, ugly or threatening are quite valuable. These should suffice.
Kindle are a more serious exposure. Do Not use Kindle Email, Files, Calendar or Contacts. Amazon Sign Into customer email with neither permission nor notice. Make of that what you will.
Do Not "purchase" Amazon ebooks. You own only the device and if a Kindle, that is conditional. If purchased, download immediately. There are BookTubers to suggest other e-book and tablet vendors or alternatives to ebooks altogether.
Silk searches should be innocuous and non-critical.
If you are possessed of a certain courage, stern responses to writers of the vicious comment do startle and frighten Them. It is good to not forget that these madmen, both employees and members own no morality but are Cowardly sociopathic US man-children. Enlightening are videos of MAGA or Nazis at play. Ominous music ends. 😊

This book is painfully contrived and mediocre at best. The MC is smart and calculating one moment (with low stakes), then suddenly it's like he doesn't think at all (with much higher stakes) and his "genius" girl never has tactical input regardless even though they're supposedly "crew" so it gets tedious fast.

Great narration I wasn't a fan of one of the female characters high pitched voice but that didn't stop me from enjoying this story. I haven't read or listened to many steampunk stories. I liked this one it was entertaining. I enjoyed the puns and inuendos between the characters. Not only is it hot and steamy, it was a bit funny and there is also fighting.

I really don't understand why I enjoyed this book so much. The writing is incredibly juvenile, but also incredibly fun. The characters are hilarious, the world-building is absolutely absurd, and the spicy bits are perfect and hilarious.
Honestly, this book was an experiment to see if I enjoyed this style of book, and I really did enjoy it. I will be continuing this series after this.

Great start

Ok so this was a bit (very) bizarre. The storyline was good if not a bit out there. The sex scenes were off the charts hot as hell. And to be honest I lost track of who was with who! However it was very entertaining and easy on the brain.

A fun light but hot read about a sailor falling through the Bermuda Triangle into another universe. Lots of hot sex, good vs evil fights, and promotion of democracy, sort of. Really enjoying the otherworldly people and creatures as they are introduced.

omg this was dumb, the author likes to remind you of stuff that happened 3 chapters ago and constantly repeat the same descriptions for secondary sexual features, constantly. MC is the worst, antagonist is predictable. Story is contrite, 2 starts is generous.

Hard to put down

Very fun read with an interesting plot and characters. There is a lot of sexual innuendo and some sex so if that bothers you, this book is not for you. Looking forward to reading the next one.
