STALKING SPIRITS IN THE RESTLESS CITYJinta's path is in one hundred and seventy years, he will face the Demon God and attempt to prevent a catastrophe. He has changed his name to Jinya and left his adopted home behind. It is the Bakumatsu period, and the city of Edo is bristling with unease. As a demon hunter in the city, Jinya encounters a warrior in search of his missing brother and finds demons hiding among the people. Among these meetings and partings, he seeks a reason to wield his blade.
I liked this one much more than the first novel! More episodic in nature, we follow Jinya, now a ronin, 10-13 years after Kadono as he takes on jobs hunting demons in Edo. I enjoyed the different cases and how little by little the new people Jinya met help him change/heal even if just a little. I also liked that each case wasn't completely divorced from the overall setting, leaving Jinya just floating around Edo. Jinya frequented a soba restaurant and kept interacting with the acquaintances (dare I say friends) he's made.
Only a couple predictable reveals, but figuring them out doesn't detract from the plot at all - they're not meant to be closely guarded secrets anyways. Overall really fun read, definitely a lot more entertaining to me than the first. I have been convinced to keep going with this series and read the third novel.
not necessarily 5 stars for the ln ig because i acc didn't reread much of this since it's been animated but I cried so hard for mosuke's storyline and ofc offu's introduction so great and cute. This book covers where the anime ep 5 ends at soooo this was the beginning of a steep rabbit hole.
