Guardians of the Phoenix: Books 1-5

Rate this book
Guardians of the Phoenix includes books 1-5 of the best-selling Guardians of the Fae Realms fantasy romance series in one volume: Rise of the Phoenix, Wolf's Soul, Bear's Strength, Hawk's Heart, and Jaguar's Passion

Monsters, Magic, and Mates I never knew existed.

My beater of a car versus a power pole isn't the end I expect—it's the beginning of... gawd, where do I begin?
Four wildly sexy males. Powers I don't understand. And the eyes of the fae world on me as the person to unite the severed realms.

No pressure.

Kotah, Brant, Jaxx, and Hawk grew up hearing the legends of how one day the phoenix would rise and unite the realms. They never thought it would happen, and they certainly never thought the fae universe would choose each of them to be her fated mates.

But when Calli wakes from a fatal car crash, reborn into an enchanted world she neither understands, nor is prepared for, those four wildling shifters are her only chance at survival. As evil forces close in and situations become heated, Calli finds she needs her Guardians almost as much as they need her.

*The Guardians of the Phoenix is a complete, five-book steamy paranormal romance series where the heroine doesn't have to choose. Expect intense situations, rollicking action, ongoing storylines, and shifter lovers who find what they need from not only their queen but each other as well.*

Fun series, but some issues

Overall it was a fun and fairly quick read, for being 5 books. There are some editing issues (wrong words, comma and capitalization issues, etc) but nothing that stops you from understanding. There are some things that aren’t wrong, per se, but they also don’t for. For example, an acerbic, rude, hyper professional business man who is all about control and image would never say “I’m outtie.” And no one ever says the word “hundred” - they inexplicably say “hundy” instead, which is just odd. And I really could have done with less of the FMC saying “Gawd” all the time. Super annoying and repetitive. For five people from very different walks of life, they talk like they’re from the Jersey Shore at times. There’s a plot hole in there too, but it could easily be unmade by addressing it, but since it isn’t addressed, it just hangs out.

My biggest reason for dinging this book by one star, however was the relationships between the five. I’m all about some m/m, but there was so much focus on the guys and their new relationships, that the FMC was almost an afterthought. The hottest scenes are between the guys and the scenes with her are shorter and more repetitive. One of the characters said his, ahem, happy ending with another male mate was the hottest thing ever. But, she’s the one that brought them together? Why are the times with her so ho hum? They spend so much time treasuring her, but the real carnality happens between them. Girl seriously gets the short straw. Then two of the guys just decide for the FMC that a certain type of smexy times was just not really for her, no matter what she said. They just decided they knew her mind better than she did. I expected them to be challenged by this, but nope. It just stays that way. They then decide not to talk about said times with the others because IDK, I guess having secrets is ok?

The ending is a bit of a mess, and more of a set up for the next related series (secondary characters who become primary characters) than an actual end to this one. It leaves it sort of flat, so if you want any real resolution, you have to read the next book or find some shorts the author wrote.

3,5 ⭐⭐⭐

It's a good story, I liked the FMC and the MC, the only thing I didn't really like is that at some point, after the men mate with one another, it seemed to me as if their connection was stronger than the one they had with Calli. It was always them.talking about each other like the other man was everything, and then they remember Calli, like "well Calli is nice too but (insert male name) is waaaay better". I like RH with MM, but Iif there's a FMC, I:d rather their attention is on her.

It was hard to finish, oh and the frequent use of the word cream.

2.5 ⭐️ rounded up
I truly don’t know why I didn’t dnf but I kept hoping it would get better but no dice
The dialogue felt juvenile, like the author wanted it to be a romcom, but just made it cheesy.

Also cream, his, and hers….🤮

It took me a long time to finish this book, not because it was 5 books in 1 but just because I felt like some bits drug on and on even though it was only based over a 3 month period. Considering how short the time line is, so much happens and honestly I feel like the guys don’t really deserve to be called ‘guardians of the Phoenix’ because they actually don’t guard her at all. She basically either saves herself (and them multiple times), or someone else saves her from outside of her quint.

There was a lot of character growth in some of these characters which I appreciated, especially Hawk. Towards the end of the book I felt like 90% of this book were the males sorting out the relationship between each other and Callie was an afterthought.

The ending was lacklustre and very very irritating as now it’s set up for the next set of books in the series with secondary characters who we don’t really see much of in the first place. So many unanswered questions and honestly I don’t think it’s right that we have to read someone else’s book to get the resolution of the quint and their problems and their quest. The whole book was about the, reopening the portal but we don’t see the resolution to it, in fact opening the portal only lines us up for Kayla’s story so you’re going to be forced to read that book to even get any closure from this book. Literally nothing is resolved so I feel there should be another book from this quints POV to round things up. Seeing it through a 3rd party POV in the next series is a bit of a cop out.

GOOD GOD THE LANGUAGE USED! firstly, they are all meant to be from vastly different parts of the USA but they all speak like they’re from the same place. They have little, what I’ll call ‘quirks’, in their speaking, and these really grated on me and took me out of the book. “Gawd”, “hundy”, “outtie” made me feel like I was reading the main characters as prepubescent teenagers rather than adults in their 20’s/30’s.

The sex scenes were good, much hotter when it was male/male action but I’m annoyed Hawk and Jaxx decided for Callie that she won’t like the BDSM side of things, whereas Jaxx gave Kotah the chance in the BDSM room and it was good that the author made a scene where it shows what happens when someone doesn’t like it.

I just feel like I read so much yet got so little from it. This whole series seems like it was a build up to Kayla’s story which is annoying. I want to know what happens now the portal is open but honestly Kayla annoyed me and I don’t know if I can do a series with her as the main character, although I did like Doc so maybe I could survive her few books but I don’t like the other 3 who came from the other realms.

Overall I felt the writing was a bit poor, everyone spoke like a child and there were some grammatical errors and plot holes that took me out of the book. I might try a different series before I try the next few books by this author

I was going to dnf at 70% but pushed through.

This book was not for me, the characters were annoying and the dialogue was making me cringe. The four guys were supposed to to guardians of the main character, but I swear that all of them just keep getting hurt and almost dying. Then the MC would have to came and save the day. I also think that the main guy characters matter more to each other then the main female MC to be there was no point in even having a female character.

Calli died in a car crash. But that’s only her beginning. It turns out she is a legendary phoenix and when she’s reborn, her guardians are called into service. She is the signal that the time has come to reunite the two realms. Jaxx, a jaguar shifter, Nakotah, a wolf shifter, heir to the throne, Brant, a bear shifter, and Hawk, a hawk shifter and the country’s most powerful paranormal CEO are her appointed guardians. To say it doesn’t start off smoothly is an understatement…

Callie is immature and pigheaded. Raised as a human, she is overwhelmed by her new life and doesn’t react well. Soon enough she embraced her role and her guys. Kotah may be young but he’s the quint’s resident genius and surprise, a Prince. He’s part innocent, part sage. As the heir to the realm, he is expected to take over his father’s duties sooner than he expected and hoped. He would much prefer to play with the quint, run as a wolf, and indulge in his scholarly activities but he was raised for duty. Brant is holding back from the Quint. He’s watching as the others get closer to Calli and each other. It’s odd because he’s always been the life of the party, the playboy, but this time it’s different. This time he can’t walk away. If he invests his heart, he could lose it. So, he’s been focusing on the missing teenagers and outside threats. Hawk can’t believe the direction his life has taken. He was certain ruling the corporate world was his calling; now he understands it is only a means to keep his loved ones safe. With the help of his trusted guardian, he is determined they will all get their HEA. And Jaxx is the heart of the group, bringing everyone together and showing them how family is supposed to be.

I love the premise. I do not love the characters. Calli’s knee-jerk reactions were too much. She made everything more difficult than it already was. Sweet Nakotah was too good to be true. Jaxx and Brant were both fairly stereotypical and Hawk should have had his bond severed. He could have then earned his way back into the Guardians after realizing his mistake but he was beyond unlikable. It’s a long series, easy to read, and entertaining, so there’s plenty of time to have plenty of character growth and add depth. I know it was marketed as polyamory and it truly is. Unfortunately, I prefer RH. I also felt that the M/M connections (which I love) were much stronger than the guy’s relationship with Calli. Hawk was completely infatuated with Jaxx. Jaxx adored Kotah and enjoyed his time with Hawk. Brant seemed to favor Calli but had the least emotional depth of any of the characters. I was disappointed for Calli. Surrounded by all of these men and it seemed she was valued more for her phoenix and her later condition. Calli as the woman didn’t seem vital to me after the men found each other. I know Calli wasn’t always the easiest to love but she deserved more.

Finally, ‘Evah’ and ‘Gawd’ should be removed from the author’s vocabulary. Each time I heard the narrators say either, I was thrown out of the story due to the cringiness. I suffered secondhand embarrassment for Lia Holland and Gabriel Thorne. Both narrators did a fantastic job with the books. Gabriel managed to give each of the men a distinctive sound, tone, and personality. I knew immediately who was speaking and he maintained character even in scenes with multiple males. Well done!

Normally I would not be so scathing but maybe I’m just bitter that you can’t return the audible set.

The ONLY reason I keep listening is because I paid for it and perhaps, an urge from the same part of the brain that says, “Ok” when your friend gags, vomits, then tells you to, “Here smell this!”

I enjoy a really steamy book maybe more than most but this is RIDICULOUS. I have no idea what the plot is because the book can’t go 5 paragraphs without the characters having sex, described with the same language over and over again. Over and over and over and over again and after knowing each other for about a minute.

The start seems like, well this should be interesting and then any development beyond describing hair and erections is gone. Even if the lack of a storyline is your thing, the language is sooo cringy it’s as though it was written by a preteen who just discovered porn and didn’t have the “big boy” vocabulary to describe anything beyond the words thrown out in the most low budget of films.
Think terms like, bro-job and phrases like this kitty wants some cream in reference to the same. The female lead even calls one of her paramours, the feline shifter, “Puss”. My skin is crawling thinking about it. Like watching 50 shades of gray with your grandparents.

I’d say sorry if I ruined anything for you but for most, you’re welcome. I hope I saved you. I’m f however you like that creepy feeling of mental shudders, have read or better yet, a listen.

spicy 🔥 3.5 ⭐️

I’ve read this part of the series twice now. I have enjoyed the story and the characters. Things I did like: the spice 🔥🥵🔥🥵🔥 so good! It’s poly - so everyone with everyone, so if you don’t like MM I’d move on bc I’d say there’s more MM spice than scenes including Calli in it. The story was interesting and kept my attention. Where I want to continue is due to not all questions being answered. This is more of a HFN ending and told that we’ll see the quint again in future books.

Unfortunately, I also am hesitant to continue the series with Keyla because there are certain things the author does that either irk me or give me the ick, example: spelling God “gawd”, all of the characters saying “hundy” instead of hundred- I don’t think many CEOs would speak this way, but every single character used this at least once. Also the author really likes to have them say nakey instead of naked. They are small, but they add up over the 5 books. While we only know Kotah is 20, he is the youngest which would put everyone else at least 25+ and this verbiage is just a little juvenile. There were some grammar/spelling mistakes but those are easily overlooked.

Overall, it was good, I’d give it 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 because you should give it a shot!

This box set was really interesting. I love that each of the characters get their own story focus, but it doesn't slow down the overall journey and the goal for the quint. They all have different strengths and that it's not muted by the relationship, but actually encouraged and highlighted. Something else I really enjoyed was that there was a good balance between the steam and slow burn. Not everyone fell for each other all at once. Yes there were some insta-love groupings for sure, but others took much longer to connect and form a bond which stretched the story out a bit letting us have more build up to go along with the suspense/mystery/action story line. The love and respect for each other that develops over this series is fab!

The narration in these books is wonderful! Lia and Gabriel do a fabulous job, Gabriel was great at making each of the male leads so distinct. I did have some confusion in the first bit of book 1 with differentiating Kota and Hawk, but after a few chapters it was easy to hear their individual personalities in the series.

3.5 stars

Pros:
Great plot
Steamy-a lot of MM
Diverse with different shifters
Strong female character I liked that she didn’t accept the males right away

Cons:
Some grammar issues
Some phrases and words over used like hundy (short for hundred) and you do you..these phrases threw me off the loop
kotah the omega- I love him but he also annoyed me when he whined to much about hawk
Though I like the sex scenes, some were just at inappropriate times. Literally getting shot at a few minutes means it is time for a quickie in the forest while villains are after you. Just made me yell really?

With all this being said..overall the series wasn’t bad. I do want to continue to know what happens to the sister and if they ever find the best friend. However, I don’t know if I want to start right now.

Guardians of the Phoenix Boxset is an entertaining, adventurous tale that had me hooked from start to finish. It is a shifter RH tale with strong, likable characters, and the story took us on quite a journey. It was fast paced, with continuous action, endless steam, danger, drama, romance and nonstop twists and it had me fully engaged.
However there were some phrases used throughout the book that just didn't fit and I will admit, irritated me every time I heard it. Inspite of that I did enjoy the story and will definitely check out this author again.
The audiobook was narrated by Lia Holland and Gabriel Thorne. They did a great job with the characters and really brought the story to life. Their voices were unique to each character and was clear and understandable. It was a pleasure listening to them narrate this novel.

Bingetastic, twisty and most satisfying read!

Thoroughly lived vicariously with these sassy, witty, sarcastic characters. I love a good reverse harem but this series showcased a tender, seductive and highly choreographed dream team family. The love, lust, edgy vulnerability spiced the intimate scenes. Not ashamed to say I binged the series in 18 hours. It was the perfect blizzard weekend read to dive into and keep more than the imagination warm! (Next time will charge both kindles so I don't have to finish reading on my cell!)

My first 5 star review. Thank you for the romantic rollercoaster ride!

1. Kali was a fabulous lead, so were three of the four mates, hawk really needs some adjustments and I Dino if it bother.

2. Kalis coming into her own still three of the fourth mates doing their job.

3. Enjoyed this one the story is coming into its own and who actually is attacking them. Kali shifts and is a bad arse.

4. This one has lots and lots of sex in it. Smut level is pretty extreme. Hawk is finally in love with mmmf mates, also lots and lots of mm action.

5. The story isn’t finished. I thought it was told be. I’m not sure what to do here. Everyone loves everyone.

I would say 3.5 star listen at this stage.

I tried to give this series a real shot. I loved certain aspects, like the magic system and the relationships between the MMC’s but the lingo used like hundy and obvi were a big reason I ended up deciding to DNF. The way Jax and Kota interact with Callie is my favorite but by the 5th book I was tired of the way the series seemed to drag on. The action is great and the emotional scenes have a way of hitting you in the feels if you let yourself love the characters but this just wasn’t for me. I also feel like the author didn’t capture the beauty of a genuine bdsm relationship in this series, but I also didnt finish the last book so it may get better.

So much fun! I loved this book, it was a good balance between humor, spice and action. Each book build off the others and provides insight into history. The author dose a great job of not just focusing on Callie and her men but the relationships between the men. This is the 1st harem out of 3, which will allow you to continue to follow these awesome characters throughout. You to see side characters become main characters throughout this series of books. The only downside I can really find is continuing to follow all the characters but wish they would through in some novellas to flush out some of the missed opportunities to see more of the characters you love.

Could have told the story in three books

There was soooo much sex, and although it was hot and varied, I had to start skimming by the end of the box set. It might have been ok if I took breaks between the books but as a whole - it was like, 35% sex.

I did like that the characters all had their distinct personalities. I liked that Calli wasn’t entirely a damsel in distress.

I question some word choices (who even says hundy percent??) and there isn’t a full resolution to issues in the end but a lead in to a spin-off with side characters.

Listened to the box set back to back on audible.
Overall enjoyable and it had a decent storyline for a book this spicy.
There were some words that felt overused or out of place. Some of the spice felt a bit much. Like, really? You couldn't keep it in your pants for a little longer?
The spice was plentiful and decent. There's lots of MM so if this isn't for you if your not a fan. Sometimes I think the MM was better than the MF or MFM!

This series ends on a semi cliff hanger. Leaving things unresolved and leading into the next part of the series based around Kotah's sister.

Holy Hotness lol

I don’t know where to begin. So much has happened and it’s a lot to deal with. I love Callie and the guys Hawk, Jaxx, Brant, Kotha. The fact that they achieved what was needed and how it ended has me scratching my head.

I figured it would be tidied up in a nice little bow but nooooo. So now I’ll be reading the next set of books to find out what has happened and when something will happen.

In short just read these they are great and keeps you hooked till the very end.

Absolutely recommend!

This is an epic start to a long series. It was easy to like the good guys and to get caught up in the plot.
My only minor complaint is that with five main characters, I had trouble keeping track of who’s perspective I was reading from. Otherwise I’m looking forward to the next set.

Also, a warning for those of you not interested in graphic details about male on male sex. There’s a lot of it. I think you should still read the books, just be prepared to flip past those scenes.

recommend read

I’m a truck driver so that means my reading is limited. But this series…..I couldn’t get enough. I thought about as I drove. Whenever I could stop for a few minutes, I’d have my phone in my hand, reading. This book was so so wonderful. I fell in love with all the characters. Only thing that I wasn’t satisfied with was the mystery of Riley. That wasn’t explained much in the end. But over all, loved it!!

Binge read material

This series is so action packed, full of hot steamy times, rockem sockem mayhem, and plot twists, there’s no way I could put it down. The characters are fleshed out and I like them, I want them in my life, ya know, book boyfriends? Calli is magnificent with her ability to forgive and roll with the punches. I’ve already downloaded book 6 and can’t wait to read what happens next.

The Guardians of the Phoenix Boxset audiobook, narrated by Lia Holland and Gabriel Thorne, is an action-packed and engaging shifter RH tale that hooked me from start to finish. The story has likable characters, nonstop action, steamy romance, and thrilling plot twists. The narration by Holland and Thorne was well done, with unique voices for each character that brought the story to life. I'm interested in checking out more books from this author.

This series is my comfort zone. It just never fails to make me feel good. I've been listening to the audiobook while I go about my day. I'm probably on my tenth rerun but I still laugh at the jokes and the way it's written ("my hamster drags its fuzzy ass back into its wheel") and I absolutely loooove how they just become a family. Of course there are things to criticise and not everyone will feel the same way but it absolutely works for me and I am so thankful for this book.

This was such an entertaining series! The guys were uber protective and possessive of their Phoenix mate…and each other. This was a sizzling hot read that left me in a puddle over and over again. BOB is destroyed. IYKYK. Lots of MM action. Lots of group action. Lots of all the different types of ways. Good mix of spice and plot, though the plot demands the influx of all things spicy. The narration was excellent and kept me engaged. I highly recommend.

Epic

An epic shifter reverse harem steamy romance full of great characters. When Call is reborn as the Phoenix of legend it begins a quest to reunite the fae and human realms. Four shifter mates, everyone has their secrets and agendas and trust can be a fickle thing. A story with constant action, tension, emotion and a lot of heat, with a great ending leading into the next section of the story.

We start this journey of Calli dying in a car crash only to wake up reborn as a phoenix. Then to find out the supernatural world is all around her and there's a prophecy about the Phoenix and her guardians. Now this whole series is about a journey of what they all have to deal with and overcome. As well as work out the prophecy that they're supposed to fulfill.

AUDIOBOOK

I had already listened to the individual books 1&2 and enjoyed them so I was eager to listen to this. Calli is still learning to use her powers and connecting with each of her guys whilst trying to find out who their enemies are . This is a paranormal reverse harem where the guys not only love Calli they love each other as well . Lia and Gabriel do an excellent job narrating.

a must read

I loved each character. You can tell there was a lot of thought about each one. The way they interact and love each other is awesome. This book makes you want to cry laugh and be mad. The set of books I read in two days. I looked forward to reading the next adventure. I just wish there were books to follow. It is sad to not know the rest.
