The Burnt Clovers Trilogy #1

Rebellious Rockstar

Rate this book
One summer, one rebellious rockstar, and a love that won’t quit — even when it hurts.

Four years ago, Derek “Reign” Reiner gave me my first kiss and flipped my world upside down. Then, my brother’s bandmate catapulted to stardom, becoming a veritable rock god, while I moved across the country.

The last thing Derek expects is me on his band’s doorstep. Yet, here I am. Lost, uncertain about my future, and desperate to feel a connection — to my family, to my brother, to him.

I’m in Boston for one summer, hoping to find my path and discover if there’s something between Derek and me.

And, oh, there is.

Our attraction is intense and heady, fueled by a reckless need. Our chemistry is electric, brimming with a desperate passion neither of us can control.

And our relationship? Well, that’s complicated. Tumultuous.

Derek Reiner may be my brother’s best friend, an international heartthrob, and a musical genius. But he’s also mine.

Even if he breaks my heart.

She is a doormat basically waiting for him to decide to be with her. Meanwhile he is flaunting the other girl he is fucking in front of her.
After their 1st kiss four years ago he has been a whore and she has lost her virginity with some guy.
Of course she never had an orgasm with someone else before him.
After they kiss again, she goes to her room to masturbate thinkinh of him, he invites another girl over to fuck, in the morning she sees him with that girl in his lap. He continues to be with this ow for weeks while she sees it and suffers.
The girl is gorgeous and the sex is great, as he called it a "sweet relieve". Of couse she doesn't have anyone distracting her.
One night he has the audacity to go after her because of the possibility of she finally being with someone else, she calls him out on him being with ow, slaps him but bbs happens and they are intimate.

This is not a 1 star review bc I have hope she will wake the fuck up on the second book and have plenty of orgasms with someone else! Let the girl really try to move on, please!!!!!!

Unfortunately as much as I liked the writing, I have zero respect for both characters and the storyline is frustrating.

She is a doormat, how can you possibly still be in love with someone that disrespects you that much ? In front of her, Derek had other women and he posted a photo after his night with 2 groupies. And still what does she do?
She wants him desperately.....
As for Derek, he had the whole "im no worthy of her, let's burn things to the ground" mentality.

The cliffhanger is also strange. They have s3x and the next day they all left her, with a message "see you in Europe."
And she is devastated... Hell no
Unless she forgets everyone and gets her Os from someone else, there will be no redemption in my point of view.

I will go through the rest of the books, kind of curious of whether she will change.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

(I received an ARC for this book)

This book ends on a cliffhanger!

Trigger Warnings include:
child abandonment, foster care system, child abuse, drug use, sudden loss

This is four years after the prequel. And I mention that because I’m not sure if it felt like no time had passed, or too much time had. Allegra is determined to reconnect with her brother, which also means moving in with complete strangers who are also famous. That alone was its own issue. I had already questioned whatever brother/sister bond they had, but after finishing this book, I can guarantee that I want nothing to do with her brother. I do not wish to experience his redemption. I genuinely hope he doesn’t somehow manage to repair what he’s broken, because she deserves better than that. Which brings me to her and Derek. Because she one thousand percent deserves better than him. Allegra is focused on making a better future for herself. A better life than the one her parents were ‘forcing’ her to have. She shouldn’t be focused on the one man in her life that is destroying her. He’s manipulative and it’s icky. I won’t be reading the rest of their story. Derek could grovel for twenty books, and I’d still never forgive him for the damage he’s already done up to this point. I genuinely should have DNFed. But I really did want to figure out what Allegra was going to do. But after the mess Derek caused, that doesn’t matter to me anymore.

My Favorite Quotes:
• “Do you have any idea what you do to me?”
• “I still want you, fucking crave you.”
• “You taste like want.”
• “I can’t not touch when you’re sitting this close.”
• “I’m the man who makes you feel things. No one else.”
• “Don’t burn out.”
• “I want to savor this with you.”
• “It may not be the right kind of love, but it’s love.”

7/10 Dirty Birdy
4/10 Age Gap
8/10 Brother’s BFF
8/10 Forced Proximity

That’s what’s fucked up about loving someone. If it’s real and true, it means sacrificing everything.

Rebellious rockstar is a brothers best friend/ forbidden/ rockstar romance. It’s just a little over 200 pages so a quick read and I did like it and I liked Allegra and Derek but I felt like something was missing with their relationship. I also wanted more of a bond with the band.

I loved Mav though and I really hope he gets a book. Im invested enough to read book two after that ending!

I fucking hate trilogies with a vengeance but when one of your favorite authors writes it you have no choice but to read it right?

Well these two made my head hurt on so many levels. His mind games are seriously messed up. His actions towards her are concerning. He pushes her away but not letting her get too far. I'm all for a messed up love but come on girl.. He's messing around with other women in front of you, have some self-respect.

So here's what twisted - despite my rant about this story, I actually liked this book. Do I want to scratch his eyes out? Yes. Do I want to slap the living light out for her? A big YES. But I can't deny that I was glued to my seat anticipating each move from both of them. Gina Azzi is going to break my heart beyond repair and honestly? I wouldn't want it any other way.

What a Great Start

The Burnt Clovers Trilogy is off to a great start with the first book in this series. Nothing is better than a good rock romance makes you want to read it in one sitting. It all starts with Allegra moving to live with her brother who happens to be in the band Burnt Clovers. Its not only her brother in the house but the other band members as well. One in particular that she crushed on, Derek, is there.

The old adage of not your brother’s best friend is about to go to the wayside. You can feel the pull these two have. If only Derek thought he was good enough for Allegra. I can’t wait for the second book in this to come out!

Ooooh, y'all. I don't know whether to love or hate Derek right now. He is so in his own way and feels he deserves nothing good in his life. So he's doing everything he can to push Allegra away. And at first, it was just giving her whiplash. But then he just turned into an asshole.

The next book in this series is Resentful Rockstar and oh boy do I hope it's called that because Allegra is out living her life and not giving Derek the time of day. I don't want her to have anything to do with Derek until he gets it together and learns he can be the kind of man he think she deserves.

I'm hoping in the next two books we see Levi get his act together. And I hope Mav finds someone he falls in love with. I'd love to see the band and Allegra working more with Dre.

So while Derek made me feel some type of way, I'm still really looking forward to the next two books in this trilogy so I can read all about his redemption arc.

Wow! This is such a angsty and emotional book. I know it took a lot for Allegra to decide to not take her last year of college, and go to Boston to spend time with her brother Levi. It was so sad how she used to look up to him and how he would take care of her. Now I felt like Levi was so lost to chemicals he shouldn’t be taking and didn’t really give Allegra the time of day. It is sad to think that all the guys in the band used so many different addictions to try to be happy. Then there was Derek, one of the players in the band who Allegra had a crush on since she was 17. I know she was hoping her feelings had changed in the last four years. It was so sad to see what Derek had come from, and how he wouldn’t let himself believe he deserved anything good in life, especially not Allegra. I was happy to see Allegra find some of what she came to Boston looking for. She was a special loving and giving person. Since this is a trilogy, I really did not like how it ended! I can’t wait for the next book. I strongly encourage you to read it. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

Gina Azzi does a phenomenal job giving us Allegra and Derek in this first book in the trilogy. Allegra and Derek first kissed four years ago when she was 17. This was her first kiss and one she didn’t forget. But neither did Derek, now a famous rockstar who goes by the name of Reign.

Allegra comes back to Boston and takes a leave from college to reconnect with her brother. She is tossed into the band’s lives and starts feeling deep emotions for Derek all over again. Her love will be tested over and over, by him!!

Their pull is electric and fierce, their mutual attraction is dynamic and so very sexy. But oh so sad at the same time.

This is a book not to miss. It helped me finally come out of my reading slump and I thank you for this @gina_azzi

Tortured, angst-ridden, heartthrob, manslut rockstar-checkmark 1. Sweetheart, loving, gorgeous, going-places, little sis of hotstuff mmc's bestfriend/bandmate, she loooves him so much because he treats her like shit?-checkmark 2.

Same old crap-sex, drugs, blah blah blah, just new names.
Little humor or wit. No compelling characters or storyline. Dull and predictable. I skipped over so much. I have no interest in seeing where this particular story ends up because I've read it all before.

I don’t think I have ever rooted so hard for a pair of romantic leads NOT to end up together.

FMC lets MMC walk all over her and she just waits patiently for him to stop treating her like garbage. I don’t think I have ever said, “oh honey, no” more times in my life. I hope she learns some self respect and self worth real quick, but I won’t be continuing the series to find out if she does.

Oooh, this is angsty!

It took a couple of chapters for me to get into the rhythm of this story. I really liked Allegra, I identified with her a little in terms of how green/naive I was at the same age, and the subsequent dent in confidence. It was a bit jarring with the reaction of Levi and Derek when Allegra arrived in Boston - why are they *that* shifty/reluctant to have her there? It seemed disproportionate to the reasoning given. There is good chemistry between the two main characters. Mav is a lovely supporting character, and the text exchange of Allegra's friends has good humour in it - very typical of how my friends and I would talk to each other. Warning: ends on a cliffhanger. Lucky for me book 2 was due for release in 2 days time!

This is my first book that I've read from Gina Azzi and it certainly won't be the last I loved Rebellious Rockstar. This book is an emotional rollercoaster I'd I'm still not sure how I feel about Derek, he's a tough character with an even tougher history and doesn't believe in relationships but when his past shows upto the brownstone he's still blown away by Allegra's beauty and big heart.

This book and new series is definitely worth reading! I'm still mad with Declan and desperate to find out what happens with his and Allegra's future.

Prepare to go on a rollercoaster ride in Gina Azzi’s latest romance, Rebellious Rockstar, the first book in The Burnt Clovers Trilogy.

While other college students might be on their paths of pursuing their careers or goals, Allegra Rousell, couldn’t haven been anymore uncertain about her own future lately. So she takes a leave of absence from UCLA and sets off for Boston to see her brother, Levi. But upon arriving to Boston, Allegra is hesitant to see the rest of The Brunt Clovers band members, especially Derek Reiner.

It’s been four years since she’s seen him and the last time she saw Derek, he gave Allegra her first kiss. A kiss the ruined her for anyone else. His alluring persona captivated her until she had to moved to the West Coast to attend UCLA. But now that she is back, Allegra is ready to see if Derek feels the same way and perhaps pursue a relationship with him. Soon everything around her starts to change, Allegra realizes that she doesn’t know anything about her brother’s life and just how far apart they’ve gotten over the years. Though career wise things begin to take off, there is still a lot that she needs to figure out, including her confusing feelings for Derek.

As the lead member of The Brunt Clovers, Derek Reiner has been able to achieve stardom even after the difficult upbringing that he had growing up. As the band is getting ready to record their latest album before leaving for their European tour, he is shocked to see his best friend’s little sister, Allegra, show up. It’s been four years since he’s seen her and wonders what could possibly bring Allegra all the way to Boston. At first Derek doesn’t want her near his space, but that doesn’t mean that he’s over her. No matter how much he tries to push her away, Allegra is determined to make things work between them. But she is his best friend/band mate’s little sister making her off-limits. Until they cross the line of no return that he realizes just how much he is willing to put on the line for her.

I’m a huge a fan of Azzi’s hockey series, those were the books that truly spoke to me. So when she announced that she was going to write a rockstar romance, I was all in. Needless to say, Rebellious Rockstar, felt a little different to me. From the writing to the characters, there was something about their relationship that I couldn’t connect. The idea itself is solid and the secondary characters made the book enjoyable to read. They both have background stories that we get a glimpse of in this book that I’ll be intrigued to find more about in the second book. Worth giving it shot if you like angsty rockstar romances. :)

Allegra and Derek’s story Rebellious Rockstar kicks off the start to Gina Azzi’s newest Rockstar series, The Burnt Clovers trilogy.
This Best Friend’s Little Sister/Older Brother’s Best Friend & Bandmate, Rockstar Romance has us following the two through the telling of their dual POVs.

The amount of angsty-ness within the story was major, but not surprising given the storyline and the characters that went hand in hand to make it so.
It led to emotions seeping through each page with every page turn, allowing you to experience as you followed along all that Allegra and Derek were feeling from what they endured within their own personal lives throughout. On top of with each other, given their complex relation that was never ending from the back and forth dance, one step forward, two steps back.
From their relationship alone, the emotions came pouring out like a waterfall, whether it be from happiness, joy and laughter, or all the way on the other end of the spectrum filled with pain, sadness and heartbreak.
It was never ending, yet you couldn’t help but be reeled in, seeing it all play out in what was most definitely a complicated ride from the major twisty rollercoaster filled with constant ups, downs and highs and lows that Gina put you through alongside Allegra and Derek.
And yet it was worth it, the way it kept you gripped all throughout, particularly the chemistry they shared, which despite being fought against, though mostly from Derek’s side given his mind games and antics he played. It never stopped the sparks from flying, resulting in some Hot and Fiery steamy moments shared between each other.

Being the first book in The Burnt Clover trilogy, IMO Gina did a good job with Rebellious Rockstar narrative laying out a good set up to what was the start of Allegra and Derek’s story. Considering all that took place in the course of one book. from the drama to the secrets and lies to the deceit, allowing for the build up of suspense to accompany it. The story kept a steady pace is pulling you along the way.
And that was on top of the beginning of the strong character development explored, courtesy of all that was showcased and presented of Allegra and Derek.

That ending though…All that needs to be known is Gina Azzi has me ready and waiting in anticipation to see where and how Allegra and Derek’s story will go from here in the next book Resentful Rockstar.

From the moment I picked up this book I knew my heart was going to be put through the wringer...and it definitely did as a young woman hoping to find her purpose tries to reconnect with her brother as well as the man who first touched her heart. With each turn of the page readers will be pulled into this less than perfect world, drawn to these bruised and broken characters, all while being occasionally frustrated by the push and pull between these long-term loves.

Derek Reiner is the proverbial rockstar as he lives fast, gorging on women and fun, while trying to balance that with the darker side of his life. He's always had demons but now that he's reached the top of the rockstar world the demons that were once in the background have now come to the forefront. He's on a self-destructive slide (he and his bandmates) when this story starts and the only one who might be able to save him is his bandmate's little sister in this forbidden romance teeming with angst. Derek's clearly hurting at the start of this story, feeling unworthy and not good enough to be loved. When it comes to Allegra though he wants to be good enough and it becomes a slow-burn of emotions between the two of them, a push/pull that put them (and readers) through the wringer. Allegra has never forgotten that long ago kiss from Derek, and while taking time off from college to find herself, she decides to see "what if" where Derek's concerned. Allegra's a wonderful heroine, one with a big and loving heart. She wants to belong, feel like she's part of something, and it's definitely an uphill climb to HEA as she and Derek dance around each other. At times Derek can be cruel, while at other times he had me drooling over him. He's always compelling though, and I always found a way to forgive him despite his toxic rockstar god behavior. For every two steps forward there was one step back as these two addressed more of their pasts and desires for the future.

With this being a trilogy I knew things were going to end on a cliffhanger...and it's one I was fully expecting to see play out. The conclusion is one that still made me gasp though, still made my heart hurt, and still had me rooting for this clearly bruised couple. Along with the angsty push/pull of this story's main couple, I was equally intrigued by the other bandmates, longing for their stories to be told as their demons need to be healed too. On a whole this book pulls you in, pushes on your heartstrings, and I'm now left waiting breathlessly for the next installment.

Buckle up, rockstar romance-lovin' friends, because Gina Azzi is about to take us on a long and bumpy ride!

Allegra wants to know her brother better. Unfortunately, that requires taking a semester off from UCLA and taking a cross-country bus ride to see him in Boston. Her brother is not thrilled to see her, because he is trying to keep his distance from their parents and because Allegra might put a damper on the rockstar lifestyle he has going on. His bandmate Derek overrides Link and lets Allegra stay, but he has to suppress the chemistry and baggage they share.

Angst, angst, and so much more angst. Gina Azzi serves a healthy dose of heart-wrenching angst as Allegra and Reign tiptoe around each other and navigate through a tension-filled history.

Allegra steals the show for me in this first installment of the trilogy, because she is more relatable and reasonable than Derek and other people around her. (Which is ironic given most of them are older). Derek will need to step up in Books 2 and 3, because he was no fun in this read. I get broken characters; in fact, I have loved some of the most broken fictional people. Derek, however, makes it hard for anyone -- fictional or reading -- to love him. BUT I believe in Gina Azzi, and she has developed amazing character arcs for some of the most trying characters (I am looking at you, Damien from Playboy's Reward).

Like I said, this is the first of three books about Derek and Allegra, and so far, the ride has been somewhat turbulent. The tension between our two main characters are definitely sizzling, and I will ride that wave as we wait for Derek Reiner to figure his issues out.

This is one of those stories where you can't always help who you love, even if it could break your heart in the process. Allegra's brother Levi is a rockstar. I love that she wants to reconnect with Levi, but her lifestyle and goals are different than his. And then there's lead singer Derek (Reign) who is her crush and came to her rescue as a teenager. I think the push and pull between the two was hard to read at times. It was always two steps forward and three steps back. I loved that Allegra found her footing in a career and with new friends that helped her get out of the stereotypical life that Levi and his bandmates had Allegra surrounded by. Even though it is probably a journey I could never walk, I can't wait to see what is ahead for Allegra, Derek, and the Burnt Clovers.

I am kind of at a loss for words after reading Rebellious Rockstar by @gina_azzi Was I hooked and addicted from page one? Yes. Were there times I hated the main characters and wanted to throw my kindle? Also yes. Did I say "oh ffs" about a million and one times at Derek's antics? Absolutely. But did this book hook me so well that I am dying for the next one and will probably gobble that one up just as fast as this one? You better believe it.

Allegra comes to Boston to repair her relationship with her brother as well as finding her passion and path in life. Her brother is in a band with her long time crush who was her first kiss at seventeen. She doesn't quite get the welcome she was hoping for but stays in the house with the rest of the band members. She and Derek go back and forth of him pulling her in only to turn around and push her away. Her brother is a complete mess on the verge of ruining his life. Allegra is trying to navigate so many things its honestly amazing she doesn't completely crack in the middle of it all.

This does end on quite the cliffhanger so be prepared. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do until the next book, I need it now! But then waiting for a third after that? And not knowing how the second will end... will stuff be figured out? Will there be an even bigger mess? I may unlive from not knowing.

Like I said this honestly pulls you in, gives you a bunch of emotions, ticks you off, makes you want to cry, and makes you connect with a lot of the characters in different ways. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, the story really is the shining star here, spice is pretty minimal but still good 🌶🌶. Excuse me while I go try to come to terms with that cliffhanger and over analyze everything I just read.

The Burnt Clovers Trilogy book 1

Allegra Rousell has dropped out of college and is going to Boston to stay with her brother Levi hoping to figure out what she wants to do with her life and to reconnect with her brother.
Her brother along with his bandmates share a house but no one knows she's coming other than Levi.

Derek "Reign" Reiner, rebellious rock star and international heartthrob with The Burnt Clovers gave Allegra her first kiss on her seventeenth birthday and she hasn't seen him since that time four years ago. She has no idea how he will react when he sees her.

Allegra is making friends and has found a job she is loving but she still hasn't spent time with her brother. Levi is getting more messed up between his drinking and drugs but not everyone is aware of how bad it is and that the band is holding on by a thread. They are getting ready for a tour overseas and her brother has invited her to go, telling her they will spend time together.

She is crushing on Derek and he keeps sending her mixed signals. He comes from a messed up family life and he doesn't believe he deserves anything good. He goes to comfort Allegra over the death of a friend and they end up taking it all the way but now he's back in his head that he's no good for her.
"Can I ever give more? Can I ever be enough?"

His music is his everything. It's his survival and salvation. And now he and the band are gone and she's left behind.

4.5 stars
The chemistry and sparks fly between Derek and Allegra. It's an emotional rollercoaster but someone will get hurt.
Can't wait for the next installment.

Allegra has always been a good girl, following her father's dictates. No partying, no sleepovers, and most of all, no boys. She's never been kissed. On the night of her seventeenth birthday, her friend convinced her to live a little. They attend a party where her brother attends with his friend, Derek, whom Allegra has a crush on. Somehow, Allegra gets her first kiss from Derek. The memory of that kiss is never forgotten when she goes out into the big bad world. Four years later, she takes the summer off from college and flies from LA to Boston. Levi finds her standing on his doorstep, looking to reconnect with him. Lucky for Allegra, Derek is his friend and bandmate. This may be the chance she needs to discover if the spark she felt at their first kiss was real or imagined. The only thing holding her back is Derek himself. He doesn't believe he is worthy of his Stellina and sabotages any shot they might have. When he commits the most heinous act of all, will Allegra forgive him, or has he ended their love before it can begin?

This is a slow-burning chance at love for one stubborn rockstar who believes his little star should burn brightly for someone else. He may want her for himself, but he knows all he will do is extinguish her light. There were moments when Derek deserved a little tap upside his noggin to help him make better decisions, showing that Allegra was the smarter of the two of them. Hope is a strong motivator in this novel, and it leaves you wishing for a better resolution for the couple. Maybe they will get it in the next book?

Wow. This book is truly heartbreak. The pain I felt and the loneliness I felts while I read this book broke me. Allegra is such a lovely girl trying to find her path in life and fix her relationships with her brother. Watch her getting mistreated by him was hard. That girl deserved only the best. The love she had for him was so strong and I hated how he acted towards her. Watching her find a job that fulfilled her and thriving in it made me so happy for her. Derek was a complex and broken man but he truly loved and cared for Allegra. He didn't want to jeopardize his relationship with Allegra's brother so to see him take one step forward and three steps back when it came to her, hurt me deeply. The things he did just to try to forget her were hard to read. The nickname he had for her was so beautiful and special. Their story is so unique yet so so messed up. Allegra's love for Derek is true and passionate. Their moments varied from cute to hot to heartbreaking. I'm so excited for the next book cause I wanna see them get their happy ending.

What a brilliant start to this series this was. It technically started in the novella Righteous Rockstar that took place 4 years before this book. And starts the push and pull, cat, and mouse game that is both all-encompassing and cruel in a lot of ways.

God, I wanted to hurt Derek so bad for what he was doing to Allegra. But she also played games. I feel she had no right playing. Now I know we are only on book 1 in this trilogy but I already know that my broken heart won't mend in book 2 and I'm not sure I see a happy ending after it's all complete. I pray that I'm wrong, but I'm here for it, neither the less.

I'm glad we got to see other characters from the Boston Hawks Hockey series, and if you think back, we first encounter Derek and The Burnt Clovers in The Risk Taker. It's great seeing the series intertwine. I look forward to books 2 and 3.

Gina is a new author for me and where best to start reading her books than a new rockstar romance trilogy. Derek and Allegra's romance is very angsty and an emotional roller coaster but I loved being along for the ride.

Derek has been Allegra's crush for years but has never felt that she had a chance with him, he's a famous rockstar after all with all the women he could possibly want falling at his feet. Derek has felt a connection to Allegra since their secret kiss but has never felt that he would be able to give her everything she deserved.

Allegra decides to spend the summer in Boston reconnecting with her brother and to decide what she wants to do with her life, unfortunately that also means living in the same house as Derek and finding out that their attraction to each other is still as electric as it was despite years apart.

Their story is intense and emotional as they try to stay apart and remain just friends even though it is so painful and each of them keeps crossing the line. At the end of the summer it looks like they are just as far apart as they ever were. Luckily this is only book one and there is more of their love story to discover in the next two. The only saving grace of the summer is that Allegra finds a new direction for her career that will make her happy and fulfilled even if she can't have Derek.

Make sure you have your tissues handy for this one it is heartbreaking and weepy in parts.

I received a copy of this arc in exchange for my honest review . This is book 1 in The Burnt Clovers trilogy.
Allegra takes a leave of absence from her last semester at college to spend the summer in Boston, trying to repair her relationship with her brother and figure out what she wants to do with her future. In doing this, she is reunited with Derek, her brother’s best friend, her first kiss from four years ago. These two have very deep unresolved feelings for one another.
Derek doesn’t believe he deserves love, especially from Allegra. He believes she is too good for him, and despite his feelings and attraction to her, he’s determined too push him away.
The slow burn with their insane chemistry through this book was a k!ller, to say the least. At times I kept getting so aggravated with Derek, but also my heart hurts for him and his upbringing and how it continues to negatively effect his life. You can see how much he cares for Allegra, while fighting this internal battle within himself.
That ending! I definitely did not see that coming, talk about a cliffhanger! I could feel the ache in Allegra’s heart she experiences at the end. As much as I feel for Derek, I am disappointed in how he left things with her. This has me wanting book 2 NOW!
This is an emotion filled book, and I suspect book 2 and 3 will bring much more angst.
Im ready for the rest of their story !

Rebellious Rockstar by Gina Azzi

This is Allegra & Derek’s story. Allegra is Levi’s younger sister. She shows up at the Burnt Clovers house in Boston after taking a leave of absence from UCLA. She’s had a crush on the lead singer, Derek, since she was 17 when he gave her first kiss. Derek definitely likes Allegra however he feels he is not good enough for her. Which leads him into doing things which causes her to push him away. He does do much unnecessary stuff in which he hurts her a lot. Then it seems Derek finally gets his crap together and lets her in. So I was excited they finally we’re together aire it sucked it was right when she is grieving Bucks loss but they are finally together and then bam we are left with a cliffhanger and I was screaming at my kindle. I can’t wait to know what happens next in the continuation. I highly recommend this book.

This book definitely has angst and drama. It’s a brothers best friend, rockstar trope with slow burn and great chemistry. Allegra wants to reconnect with her brother and figure out what to do with her life. After taking a leave of absence from college (is that a thing?), she moves from LA to Boston and surprises her older brother, who’s band has taken off in the last few years. Of course, one of his bandmates was her first love, after kissing her during her 17th birthday. His history makes him repeatedly push her away.

I must say, Allegra has far more patience than I would for Derek’s antics. While I really want to like him and I understand the damage his backstory caused, I honestly don’t think I could put up with his hot/cold act. AND her brother is a disaster. I really felt for Allegra - moving to a new place, knowing only a few people, no job, distanced from her family, not sure what she wants to do with herself. I think we can all relate on some level.

This is book one of a trilogy that has a mild cliffhanger and does not end on a high note. Book two releases next month and I will definitely be reading it because the angsty relationship irritates me and keeps me coming back for more! Here’s hoping Allegra gets over Derek by using some of his tactics against him.
